== PROUT: MOTHER TONGUE BRINGS $$$ ==
Namaskar,
In this early part of the 21st century, our world is changing quickly.
In all spheres of life, changes are taking place. Amidst it all, it is a
time we should bear in mind Baba's explicit teaching about the
importance of all languages-- about the great significance of one's
mother tongue.
Because in this era of extreme capitalism, where making money and
getting financial security is in the uppermost of people's minds, we are
seeing certain communities giving up their native language, thinking
this will bring them riches. Tragically, losing one's mother tongue only
opens the door for more socio-economic exploitation, not more trips to
the bank.
Thus this language issue, i.e. mother tongue, is key to developing a
healthy, world-based humanity and we should bring awareness to Baba's
unique teaching on this crucial matter.
BABA'S ADVICE DURING THE INDIAN CENSUS
Back in the 1970's when India was doing its census report, Baba strictly
guided everyone to participate and indicate that their mother tongue--
not any state language-- was their language. Because those days, the
then government of India did not recognise many of the native Indian
languages and was merely treating them as dialects-- leading to the
suppression of those indigenous languages and those people as well. Baba
adamantly opposed this and insisted that all mother tongues be
recognised as veritable languages. Because if anyone's mother tongue is
written off, pushed aside, or suppressed-- then that spells disaster for
those people.
BABA'S WARNING ABOUT MOTHER TONGUE
Baba says, "No mother tongue should be suppressed. If a mother tongue is
suppressed, the consequences are most dangerous...Human beings best
express themselves through their mother tongue. If people’s mother
tongue is suppressed, it is equivalent to strangling them. The
suppression of people’s mother tongue is a sin." (PNS-16)
Yet tragically, all around the globe-- from eastern Europe to the
Philippines, from India to Alaska-- people are giving in and willfully
neglecting their mother tongue, much to the delight of the exploiters.
PRESENT-DAY SCENE
In so many lands, the race is on for capital gain. Capitalism is
spreading and everyone wants to cash-in on this lottery. To do so,
people think they need to walk like capitalists, talk like capitalists,
dress like capitalists, and speak like capitalists. Thus for economic
gain, people are tossing aside their mother tongue and adopting the
prevailing language of capitalists: English. All because they want to
make money. However, instead of strengthening their stand, these people
are walking right into the trap of those capitalist exploiters. Because
in losing their mother tongue and stripping themselves of their culture,
those local people develop a huge inferiority complex about who they are
and invite terrible manipulation by capitalist blood-suckers. This is
the veritable law.
Here Baba sheds light on the real effect of between recognising one's
mother tongue and capital gain.
Baba says, "Now, let us observe if there is a close relationship between
language and socioeconomic progress and cultural development. I have
already said that language is the vehicle of inner thoughts and ideas.
Naturally it is inseparably linked with the pra'na' dharma or
fundamental characteristics of human beings. The way people can express
their thoughts and ideas in their own mother tongue cannot be done in
any other language. People feel uneasy when they speak in a language
other than their mother tongue. If they constantly feel such uneasiness,
their pra'n'a shakta or vital energy will be disturbed. Consequently
their vital force will be weakened. In such circumstance a sort of
psychological crisis will occur in the collective mental body as well as
in the individual mind. This will result in the emergence of inferiority
complexes which will cause debility in the human mind. Those people
whose language is suppressed lose their moral courage, initiative and
power to protest. Ultimately a defeatist psychology develops in them,
and as a group such people face the prospect of total annihilation."
(AFPS-9)
So Baba has issued a clear-cut warning. Losing one's mother tongue will
lead one into social and financial ruination. Because the ruling
corporate agencies of this 21st century will be in prime position to
exploit such persons to the very bone-- to the very marrow.
Yet to get an investment banking job, to work tech support, to become
the local representative of Google, to become an engineer for
Exxon-Mobil, to design for Tata, to apply for jobs on the internet, to
climb the corporate latter, citizens everywhere are throwing away their
native styles and languages and adopting the language of the dominant
so-called culture. They think they need to do this in order to "get ahead".
What they do not realise though is by giving up their language or by
giving in to the exploiters in this way, they lose their inner strength.
All of a sudden person may look like they are ready to succeed because
they are sipping a martini in one hand and speaking English into the
cell phone in their other, but ultimately they will be robbed of their
inner vitality. And rather than making any real money, they will become
exploited tools in the hands of those top capitalists.
They will work night and day in the capitalist enterprise thinking that
great things are going on but they will see that at the end of the year
all they have to show for it is debt-- no savings and no financial
security. Because capitalism puts the common man into debt. Wherever
capitalism exists, there is huge debt.
The US is in debt as a nation; the American people are in debt-- unable
to afford their food, homes, or health care-- and indeed, wherever
capitalism has taken root, there is debt and poverty.
No doubt in the beginning, a few may make a few pennies or a few rupees
and think that capitalism is great. But that slippery dream does not
last long. It fades away very quickly and then the grim reality sets in.
Thus trading in one's mother tongue and cultural values for the paradise
of capitalism is not a smart idea. Not only will one not make financial
progress, but they will be robbed of their very identity, spirit, and
respect as well. That is Baba's severe warning.
Baba says, "Those people whose language is suppressed lose their moral
courage, initiative and power to protest. Ultimately a defeatist
psychology develops in them, and as a group such people face the
prospect of total annihilation." (AFPS-9)
PROUT PROTECTS THE MOTHER TONGUE
BRINGS FINANCIAL WEALTH
To succeed in this world, one must have proper footing-- a proper base:
Self-confidence, self-respect etc. That means one must give credibility
to their mother tongue and not allow any exploiter to take it away or
suppress it. Then one will be in a position to do great things on this
earth and be a success in all the realms of life, including a financial
success.
In contrast, if one loses their mother tongue and succumbs to feelings
of inferiority, then they are inviting socio-economic ruination. That is
Baba's fundamental guideline & warning. Yet so many around the globe are
falling into this trap.
So we should sound the call and encourage one and all to maintain their
native language, and with it their dignity and self-esteem. Then they
will have the ability to advance economically.
BABA'S BLESSING
By Baba's grace, the teachings of Prout will grant everyone essential
rights and give respect to everyone's native culture and language,
thereby empowering everyone to lead a life of prosperity: Economic,
social, and spiritual.
Baba says, "PROUT is the panacea for the integrated progress of human
society. It aims to bring about equilibrium and equipoise in all aspects
of socio-economic life through totally restructuring economics. Without
PROUT, socio-economic emancipation will remain a utopian dream. Only
PROUT can save the world from depression." (Proutist Economics)

Note 1: INTRINSIC NATURE OF ONE'S MOTHER TONGUE
Baba says, "What does mother tongue mean? That language in which we can
freely, smoothly and spontaneously express our ideas in an unobstructed
environment, just as we feel loving closeness with our own mother while
in conversation, is our mother tongue." (AFPS-9)
Note 2: HOW COUNTRIES SHOULD ADDRESS THE LANGUAGE ISSUE
Here below Baba clearly states the proper way in which any nation should
address this linguistic issue.
Baba says, "India is a multi-lingual and multi-religious country. If a
particular regional language is declared the national language, it would
be very detrimental to the overall welfare of the country. Rather, all
the languages spoken in India should be recognized and encouraged. In
this regard, India should follow the example of some other countries. In
Switzerland, for instance, four languages are recognized as state
languages – German, Italian, French and Romansch – although more than
twice as many people speak German than the total speaking the other
three languages. This is the correct approach, as it does not go against
the collective psychology of the people." (PNS-16)
Thus, our Proutistic stand is to give credence to all mother tongues of
a land, thus ensuring respect, opportunity, and dignity to all.

How Meaningful
Baba says, "A jiiva is manifested out of Paramashiva as a jiiva in human
body-- or rather, simultaneously in the Cosmic Body and in a human body.
Each and every microcosmic structure is like a universe. Hence the yoga
of scriptures say, Traelokye ya'ni bhu'ta'ni ta'ni dehatah-- 'Whatever
exists in the universe exists in your small structure as well." (DKG, p.19)
