What Senior Acarya Diary Says

Baba

== WHAT SENIOR ACARYA DIARY SAYS ==

Namaskar,
"Baba's special teachings about ajagarii and madhukarii from Senior Acarya Diary encapsulate the whole entire spirit of being a real sannyasii in our Marga - and for years and years this was prevalent in our WT cadre, but unfortunately in the present era, since 1990, this essence is waning drastically."

Such were the words of one of our senior avadhutas at a recent Ananda Marga function.

Thereafter, Dadaji went on to tell us all about Baba's special teaching of ajagarii and madhukarii vrttis from Senior Acarya Diary. Certainly, Dada did not read from the Diary itself, so what is discussed below is a summary of that day's discussion.

The overall message was that the spirit of renunciation is waning in our Ananda Marga. That does not mean that our entire wt cadre is suffering from this epidemic, because there are countless dedicated workers in Ananda Marga. Nonetheless, it is a trend that is on the rise.

So let us again investigate the ideals and practice of madhukarii and ajagarii vrttis. These qualities will bring balance into our organization, plus Baba furthermore guides us that madhukarii and ajagarii vrttis are the key ingredients of real avadhuta life.

SPIRIT OF MADHUKARII & AJAGARII VRTTIS

The overall idea here is that renunciation, dedication, and sacrifice are the cornerstones of our Ananda Marga way of life. Our saffron flag stands for these ideals - as should our sannyasii order. That is Baba's design & teaching of madhukarii and ajagarii vrttis from Senior Acarya Diary.

In review, madhukar is that black bee which encircles the flowers and only takes that food which it needs at that very moment - nothing more. That madhukar does not gather and hoard bucketfuls of pollen to eat later.

A step up is the ajagar, or python, which does not even move to get its food; it merely eats what comes across its path. So not only does it not gather extra, but that ajagar does not even spend time hunting
for food.

That is why in the aparigraha section of the Senior Acarya Diary, Baba specifically states that the madhukar and ajagar represent the only two ways for our WTs to exist in this world. (For more about this refer to Note 2 appended below.)

That means that in their personal lives, our Dadas and Didis are to adjust with the minimum necessities of life - and not get caught up in materialistic pursuits like hoarding money etc. Instead Wts are to use their precious time & energy serving and helping others in all realms, including spiritual elevation. That is the spirit of madhukarii and ajagarii vrttis.

At the same time, in their social service endeavours, workers can and should collect money for those projects. In that arena of life - for the service of others - they may seek out and gather donations and build up organisational bank accounts to sustain those projects. The account should be submitted to and overseen by a committee. Then there will be trust and commitment from all involved. In their personal life Wts must desist from doing keeping such accounts. Then they will be in accordance with the teachings of madhukarii and ajagarii vrttis.

Per Baba's direction in Senior Acarya Diary, that is the only ideal way to live as a WT.

PRESENT DAY STANDARD OF WTS AND GROWTH OF THE MARGA

But tragically a few of our Wts have lost this spirit and are running after transitory allurements. With great idealism, they entered into our Wt cadre but at some point got caught up in the mundane race for material possessions like money, land, property, as well as post and power.

Lost in the wake of that spiritual vacuum, all kinds of negative habits, tendencies, and diseases crop up, and the spirit of renunciation fades. Then those particular workers cannot inspire anyone onto the spiritual path. Thus our numbers in Ananda Marga fail to increase. Whenever any worker loses their spirit of renunciation, then true pracara work cannot be done.

ALL SHOULD EMBRACE THE SPIRIT OF RENUNCIATION

Only through this pathway of renunciation - madhukra and ajagar - can our Ananda Marga sannyasii order really be something great: An order that represents dedication. That is Guru's teaching.

In Ananda Vacanamrtam (Hindi) part 26 chapter 11 titled "Dhvaj sanket...", Baba has given one special formula related with this very topic.

The whole idea of this teaching is that only through dedication and renunciation in the individual sphere can society prosper. For example, if anyone collects bundles of money in their own bank account, that impedes on the welfare of others. This will not bring any relief to the common people, rather it will hinder their ability to grow.

So those with money should not indulge in extravagant luxuries that are beyond the means of ordinary citizens. Until each and every person in the society can afford such amenities, then good people should not use such luxuries. But when those items become accessible and affordable to all, then in good faith it is alright for sadhakas to have those items.

Thus conscientious people use their wealth to raise the living standard of all. If one truly adopts such ideals of renunciation then they can bring smiles and happiness to countless people. So the spirit of sacrifice in one's own personal life is truly something great and honourable. That is Baba's guideline from Ananda Vacanamrtam.

BABA'S DIVINE EXAMPLE

And in His own personal life Baba was exemplary in this very approach. For years and years He traveled by railway, bus, or by foot since that was the common standard. And not only that, but the monetary wealth He earned through His railway job He distributed to the various wholetimers etc.

Not only that, before 1970 while He was still working in Jamalpur, Baba traveled to Ranchi and while there saw a newspaper article about a school headmaster's request for money to fix the leaky roof in his school. The roof was leaking in the students' classroom and the headmaster requested money for repairs. That very evening Baba went to the school and donated Rs1000 of His own personal money. Today that is roughly equivalent to Rs20,000 or more.

So in all the ways, Baba's personal way of living stands as the embodiment of renunciation. We should understand and follow Guru's teaching and adopt the path of renunciation in our individual lives, especially our wts.

A VERY NOBLE ENDEAVOUR

So none should think that ajagarii and madhkarii vrttis are some type of punishment to those wearing saffron. Rather adhering to this ideal code of aparigraha is something quite noble - it allows one to fulfill their mission and command respect in the real sense of the term.

"The dedicated monks and nuns of Ananda Marga have accepted their life of renunciation...to further the cause of human welfare; and through their service, they seek to lead human beings along the path of
righteousness to the abode of Supreme Bliss." (A Few Problems Solved - 3)

WAY THINGS ARE NOW IN OUR MARGA

Unfortunately now in our Marga, things are developing in an entirely different way. Unfortunately, a more capitalistic mentality has seeped into our sannyasii order as some of our wts have just taken to collecting money, automobiles, big buildings, and registering these things in their own name. Yet all this goes 100% against Baba's guideline of ajagarii and madhukarii vrttis from Senior Acarya Diary.

The basic formula is that the mind is one; so if one is rushing after money then that same mind does not have inspiration to run after Parama Purusa. Human mind is one, not many.

When the current leaders of AMPS pursue material gain, then there is a ripple effect. Many field workers are idealistic, but when top Dadas shirk their sannyasii vows then that adversely affects others.

In addition, top Dadas force lower posted workers to pay dues. That means they have to pay taxes to higher dadas otherwise they are harassed, threatened, punished, and abused.

Instead of getting respect on points of sadhuhood, restraint, sadhana, helping others, and sacrifice, the culture of our Wts has shifted over to a materialistic or capitalist way of living where prestige is given according to one's monetary status and post etc.

Certain wealthy Dadas are using their money to garner a lot of respect from some margiis - what to say about non-margiis. However, the real determining factor of a sannyasii is conduct. That is the main measuring rod for determining one's calibre.

"Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct. They and their followers must move constantly towards all-round development and shreya [ultimate spiritual attainment]. Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by their own conduct are called ácáryas." (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 31, Conduct of an Acarya)

Baba's guideline for being an ideal Wt / acarya is quite clear. Sadly, all those many Wts who are properly leading a life of renunciation by adhering to the codes of madhukar and ajagar are victimised by top Dadas.

At present, the power structure in AMPS is entirely upside-down. Those central Wts with big pockets have all the power, whereas those service-minded wholetimers are looked upon as a liability and pushed aside.

Unfortunately, this is what is practically happening. If one can generate revenue by any means - just or unjust - and give that money to Centre then they get a high post and lots of prestige; and, if one firmly adheres to 16 Points and their vow of renunciation then they are looked upon as being outdated and expendable, and are written off as a liability and a beggar, unfortunately.

WT'S HAVE RENUNCIATION & NOTHING ELSE

This corporate approach where money is king is not the way things are supposed to be in our Ananda Marga sannyasii order. Baba has designed it completely differently - based on the ideals of the madhukar and ajagar. Where renunciation, not individual ownership, is everything.

For example, in the true Ananda Marga system, if a wt has been working in a particular location for a few years, then when a transfer order is given that very WT will automatically hand over all monies, equipment, funds, and property to the incoming worker. And the Wt who got transferred is to leave that area only with his dress and laungota in hand - & nothing else, except possibly a bus ticket to his new posting.

Now, however, all that has changed: When transferred those Wts sell the property, shift the money to their own black account, clean out all other financial resources, and hand over nil (nothing) to the newly posted worker.

According to our ideal, the only thing that a wt truly "owns" in this material world is their vow of renunciation. Beyond that they have nothing. And that is Baba's divine system of madhukar and ajagar from Senior Acarya Diary. And that is what makes a sannyasii truly great - then they can really serve others and do great things in this world.

MORE ABOUT THE WAY THINGS ARE NOW IN OUR MARGA

Tragically, in today's Ananda Marga sannyasii culture, selflessness is not the value cherished by top Dadas.

Now when a posting order comes, most often the Wt who got transferred departs with all the money from the bank account, or that Dada might sell the property and keep the profit, or he might send a cash donation to Centre in order to remain at his post. Or so many things might happen, including sending the monetary wealth and possessions of that jagrti to their laokik family.

Due to a lack of sadhana and straying from the path of madhukarii and ajagarii vrttis, some in our WT system have veered off course, where money - not renunciation - is everything.

This severely hinders the ability of workers to serve humanity.

For instance: A Wt is living on an MU with no house and is begging food from villagers as he tries to start various service projects. But then when a senior Dada from Centre arrives with a special, luxury car then the common people think all workers must have a lot of money. They think, "Why is this other Wt begging from me." When there is a huge incongruity between top Wts and the common people, then there will be feelings of difference. Then our AMPS is unable to serve the local populace.

NOT THE FAULT OF NEW WTS

Some may think that since this problem of money-hoarding within our WT cadre began after 1990 then it is the fault of the new wts. But we cannot blame our younger wts. Rather with pure intention they entered into a system that quickly became ideologically askew due to the greed of the ruling Wts.

When those top factional wts travel around by private jet, chauffeur driven automobiles, keep houses & luxury suites, and deposit millions into their personal bank accounts, then idealistic young workers have hardly a chance of maintaining their vow of renunciation. Rather some get swept up into that, lest they face the consequences of getting pushed aside and receiving one punishment posting after another.

INGREDIENTS OF A SUCCESSFUL ORGANISATION:

RENUNCIATION AND DEDICATION

However to truly became a force in this world dedication is needed.

There are some organisations and religious groups that "succeed and thrive" on this earth because of their dedication. Often times their aims are awry, but they serve and help each other and eat together as one family and that is enough for them to gain success and spread their teachings from one land to the next.

This very faculty of sacrifice is missing in our Ananda Marga nowadays. That is why despite having the great teachings of dharma in our books, due to this blatant lack of renunciation and dedication to help and serve others, our AMPS is stuck, unfortunately, because of some bad apples.

So the spirit of madhukar and ajagar are deeply needed in our Ananda Marga. Prior to 1990 they were present. All the wts did everything and everything for the welfare of Ananda Marga and nothing for their own self. Now the opposite is happening as some are doing anything and everything for their own self and nothing for the welfare of our Ananda Marga.

One bad apple spoils the bunch. So even if a few Dadas are acting selfishly, hoarding money, indulging in luxuries, and going against the spirit of renunciation, then that taints and undermines our entire WT cadre.

So this is a shame. There is no dearth of dedicated workers and margiis in Ananda Marga. There are so many good people. But those dedicated workers just get pushed aside in one corner by the ruling elite.

By this entire manner, the spirit of renunciation and the sacrifice represented by our saffron flag and saffron coloured sannyasiis dress has been severely compromised.

"BE GREAT BY YOUR SADHANA, SERVICE AND SACRIFICE"

"It is action that makes a person great. Be great by your sádhaná, by your service, by your sacrifice." (Ananda Vanii #20)

Only by recapturing the ideals of ajagar and madhukar can we once again become that great resurgent body that led to the tremendous growth of Ananda Marga. With those ideals absent from certain sannyasiis, our problems will continue. So let us once again rally around the spirit of our saffron flag and embrace Baba's guidelines from senior acarya diary and build an AMPS organisation that reflects the cornerstones of sacrifice and renunciation.

"Everyone should render service to the world in accordance with their capacity and work for the welfare of the living beings to the best of their ability...You are travellers of an impregnable path. You have to
march ahead proudly with the flag of Marga upright. You have no time to stagger or to look behind." (Subhasita Samgraha - 1)

CONDUCT RULES JUST BEING OVERLOOKED

These following WT conduct rules given by Baba go hand-in-hand with His divine teachings about madhukar and ajagar from the aparigraha section of Senior Acarya Diary.

So in various avenues, Baba is preaching this special gospel of renunciation, but tragically within our AM sannyasii culture these things are just being neglected and overlooked by some.

Best is if everyone judges for themselves if these below points are prevalent in our AM sannyasii order or not.

"One should attract other by one's sacrificing nature." ('37 Avadhuta / Wt Workers Rules', point #20)

"One should leave all sorts of luxuries." ('37 Avadhuta / Wt Workers Rules', point #6)

"One should adjust with the minimum requirements of life." ('37 Avadhuta / Wt Workers Rules', point #17)

Thus when the ruling wts are hoarding wealth, laundering money, and looking down upon others, then how is our WT order going to become that shining example that will inspire confidence, service, and sacrifice to one and all.

BABA'S RELATED TEACHINGS

"The human mind has two contradictory inherent tendencies: one of acquisition, the other of sacrifice. The more one advances along the path of evolution, the more the second tendency, the spirit of sacrifice, becomes prominent." (Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell - 5, The Faculty of Knowledge – 2)

REAL YOGI THINKS FOR THE UNIVERSE, NOT OWN SELF

"What is the Siddhi, i.e., attainment of Karma Sádhaná? – (Karma Brahmeti Karma Vahu Kurviita). To serve every mundane object thinking it to be the manifestation of Paramátmá is Karma, i.e., the Sádhaná of action. What is the achievement (Siddhi) of Karma Sádhaná? It is generally found that an average person spends more than twelve or fourteen hours in thinking about his or her own self. But the moment one starts thinking about the universe, one becomes a Karma Sádhaka. When one starts spending all one's time in thinking for the universe, taking one self to be a bubble in the ocean of Karma, one gets Siddhi in Karma Sádhaná. A person is a part of the universe, and when one starts serving the universe, one is also automatically included among the served." (Subháśita Saḿgraha Part 19, Salvation & Devotion)

"Many people look upon human beings as God Himself and throw themselves into the service of humanity abandoning their families and personal comforts. Defying all obstacles – the dense forests, the towering mountains, the stormy oceans – they travel throughout the world promoting the welfare of all." (1 January 1964)

Namaskar,

Note 1: WHAT IS TRUE RENUNCIATION

Here Baba guides us about the pathway of true renunciation.

"When the human mind becomes strong enough not to be affected by any colour, it is called vaera'gya [renunciation]." (10 November 1978, Calcutta)

The essence of the above teaching is that the mind must not be allowed to become tempted and engrossed by material wealth etc. Rather the mind should be kept in a state of balance, whereby one can look upon this world with empathy. Then when can truly serve others.

Unfortunately, when some of our wts with high posts are keen on luxury cars, black money, and other allurements that exist in this mundane world, and collect crores in their personal bank accounts. Then how can we say they truly imbibe the spirit renunciation.

According to Baba, renunciation means developing a high mind through sadhana where one feels that they have come on this earth with a mission to sacrifice for the service and welfare of others. Armed with this true spirit of renunciation our WT cadre will really become a great and benevolent force in this world.

Note 2: APARIGRAHA & THE APPLICATION OF

MADHUKARII VRTTI AND AJAGARII VRTTI

The term 'ajagar' refers to that very large snake known as the python. And the sense is that a python never moves anywhere to procure its food. It stays put in one single place, always. And it only eats what comes across its path. It does not spend its entire life traveling all about in search of one's food.

So in the realm of sannyasiihood, our AM monks are to adopt a similar approach while living on this earth. They are not to indulge in an ongoing quest for more and more wealth and money for their own self. Rather our AM sannyasiis are to adjust with whatever they get for their existential needs and dedicate themselves to infusing energy within others and serve all through our Ananda Marga social service projects etc. They should not waste their energy and time thinking about their own self and self alone etc. According to Baba, this is the real dharma of an Ananda Marga sannyasii.

So we should all accept His teachings with a cool mind and think twice when we see our wts frivolously running headlong after money. Because, by that way, they have lost their dharma - according to Baba's teaching in Senior Acarya Diary about madhukarii vrtti and ajagarii vrtii.

Those Ananda Marga workers sincerely following madhukarii vrtti and ajagarii vrtti neither run after money nor property for their own luxury, only Parama Purusa. So a true wt will take proper ideation and just have the bare minimum that is needed to survive & execute their work of serving others. Side by side, one is not to harbour the desire of getting more personal wealth.

According to Baba, this is not only the ideal way, but the only way for a true AM sannyasii to live. Anyone going against this system is a fake sannyasii. That is Baba's pointed stance & strict warning.

So that means our wts are not to stockpile funds in their personal bank accounts, nor are they to keep unaccounted money (i.e. black money), nor anything that is above and beyond what is needed for their basic subsistence.

Here we should not forget this is Baba's teaching from Senior Acarya Diary and this is not some dogmatic belief from pre-historic Hinduism nor the fantasy of some jinanii, nor some impractical expectation by some day-dreamer which is too lofty to be attained.

Rather the highly practical and ideal teachings of madhukarii vrtti and ajagarii vrtti come from our Guru, the Taraka Brahma Lord Shrii Shrii Ananamurtiji who has graciously given this in Senior Acarya Diary. And indeed those wts adhering to this dharmic code of ajagarii vrtti are truly great. They are the real seers, sadvipras, and well-wishers of humanity. Their minds are crystal-clear and pointed towards Baba's teachings, and not drifting towards worldly allurements etc.

== IGNORANT TEACHER: RESTLESS TO TEACH ==

Namaskar,
A discussion of critical importance has come up on one listserv. The topic was related with our Ananda Marga shastra (scripture): Which books of Ananda Marga ideology can and should be updated now and in the future, and which ones are permanent and will never change.

A few Dadas came forward to resolve this issue and give instructions to others, but unfortunately their answers did not match Baba's guidelines.

TRI-SHASTRA SYSTEM OF ANANDA MARGA

As we all know, in our Ananda Marga we have the tri-shastra system: Darshan shastra or philosophical treatise; dharma shastra or spiritual treatise; and samaj shastra or social treatise. As Baba driects us, only the social treatise will ever undergo change.

Our philosophical treatise (Ananda Sutram etc) and spiritual treatise (Subhasita Samgraha, Namah Shivaya Shantaya, Ananda Vanii etc) will never change. Those two treatises are directly linked with Parama Purusa and Parama Purusa Himself never changes. He is that eternal Divine Entity that undergoes no change. So no matter how much humans evolve, still the philosophical and spiritual treatises of Ananda Marga will remain as is. They will never change or be updated. They are permanent, i.e. perfect across time and space.

Anyone confused about this should reference Baba's discourses: Prápta Vákya and Ápta Vákya, Our Spiritual Treatise, Our Philosophical Treatise, etc.

Baba's following teaching make this perfectly clear:

Baba says, "The books in Ananda Marga philosophy are all absolute knowledge [ie. permanent truths, not relative knowledge]. The proper mark of identity of absolute knowledge is that it must be universal, rational and psychological. Certain instances of absolute knowledge are as follows – the goal of human life is the attainment of Brahma; human beings are the progeny of Parama Puruśa; this universe is created by the macrocosmic conation; matter is the crudified form of the universal mind; by dint of sádhaná or spiritual practices human beings gradually become divine; whoever is born will have to die one day; liberation is the birth right of all living beings; human society is one and indivisible; diversity is the law of nature; no two entities in this universe are uniform." (Prout Nutshell-18, Prápta Vákya and Ápta Vákya)

WHAT SENIOR ACARYA DIARY SAYS

Plus in Senior Acarya Diary, Baba has clearly told that in a one-line statement the dharma shastra (spiritual scripture) and the darshan shastra (philosophical scripture) of Ananda Marga will never ever change. They are permanent. They are both dharmika shastra. That is they are both apta vakya as their subject matter matter deals exclusively with Parama Purusa. So they will never change; this point is not up for debate.

Baba Himself has given this guideline in Senior Acarya Diary in the section titled svadhyaya. Tragically, for whatever reason, some of our Dadas (i.e. avadhutas) are not aware about the teachings from the Senior Acarya Diary, so they could not properly guide others about this.

CONCLUSIVE POINT

Here again the key point is the Parama Purusa is the non-changeable Entity and when His philosophical and spiritual treatises are directly related with Him, then there is no question of changing or updating those books. That will never be done. That means His original discourses published in Ananda Sutram, Ananda Vanii Samgraha, Ananda Vacanamrtam etc will never be changed.

WHY THE VARIOUS RELIGIONS CHANGE THEIR SCRIPTURE

The question then arises, why are some senior Dadas in our Marga raising this matter that our scriptures (philosophical and spiritual) should be changed? What has prompted this defective mode of thinking?

One reason is that they are emulating what is going on in the dogmatic religions. At present, it is trendy and fashionable to deviate from one's religion. Becoming a "moderate" follower of the religion is looked upon as being progressive. Being moderate means changing those outdated religious codes. After all those codes are hundreds of years old and illogical so they need to be changed.

Here are but a few ways the religions are changing: Now widows are no longer burned to death; alcohol is no longer banned; promiscuous women are no longer stoned to death; and, creationism has been discarded as more and more adopt the theory of evolution. These are but a few of the many changes going on. And those who embrace these changes are looked up as being "moderate" or "progressive".

Thus it is the style to be a moderate in the religions these days. The reason being their religious scriptures and edicts were dogmatic and irrational from the outset. They needed to be changed and those who put forth those updates gained respect.

Seeing this drama unfold, some naive people in AM began copying this religious trend and decided it would be best to change the shastras of Ananda Marga as well.

But, in AM the situation is totally different. Baba's divine teachings are perfect and timeless - not dogmatic. So our dharmshastra and darshan shastra will never be changed. Changing His dharmic guidelines means falling into dogma. What Baba has given should be kept as is - and followed strictly. We are not to change His dharma shastra nor darshan shastra.

Even if the whole world is veering in another direction we should keep the course and follow Baba strictly.

Just because masses from the various religions drink alcohol and / or eat meat, that does not mean then we should also drink alcohol and eat meat - this it a totally inane idea. One should never do like this.

BABA'S TEACHINGS ARE PERMANENT

Baba's philosophical and spiritual discourses will never need to be change. Baba's teachings like Ananda Sutram and Ananda Vanii are permanent. They will never be changed or updated.

It is just like how 2 + 2 = 4. It will always remain so. 2 + 2 will never equal 5 or 8, regardless of how much humans advance. That equation, 2 + 2 = 4, will always be true across time and space.

Likewise philosophical and spiritual injunctions (like Ananda Sutram and Ananda Vanii) will not change; they are a constant. They are grounded in eternal truth. That is true of Baba's entire body of teachings which are part of His darshan and dharma shastra.

Only the social treatise (Caryacarya) will undergo change - and even then that change will not happen for a long, long time.

Regardless of the passage of millions of years and all kinds of human development, our spiritual treatise and philosophical treatise will never change. They are permanent.

So no one can make the claim that Baba's original Ananda Vaniis will undergo change or that Ananda Sutram will be updated etc. That is not going to happen. Baba has given those as permanent teachings for humanity.

Namaskar,
Tapeshvar

Note 1: HOW THIS TOPIC CAME TO THE FORE

Here is the sequence of events of how this topic was raised and how two avadhutas veered from Baba's truth.

Firstly, one new & naive margii wrote as follows. But my concern is not so much with him because after all he is new. Rather it was shocking to see how two of our esteemed Dadas replied.

Here first is what that new margii wrote:

"How do you know that the Ananda Sutram and other things have not changed?  Remember Baba said that we will have more subtle vrtiis in the future...His Ananda Sutram might changed by then. His vaniis too might change.  Everything might change. Open your mind brother! Many things might still change or might be subject to change in the future. We must not be closed-minded to changes." (New margii)

So this new margii thinks the Baba's darshan and dharmashastra will be changed - that is pardonable as he is not aware of Baba's teachings. What more can be said than that.

But see here how two of our avadhutas responded on the public forum:

1) Dada Kalyaneshvarananda was 100% support of the above margii's statement about changing Baba spiritual and philosophical guidelines.

Kalyaneshvaranandji wrote: "Yes, Brother S is right."

So Kalyaneshvarananda fully support's the new margii's stance that the Ananda Vaniis, Ananda Sutram etc could and should be changed. Thus both Dada K and the new margii are against Baba's edict that His scripture is permanent. They advocate changing Baba's philosophical and spiritual guidelines.

2) Now see Viitaragananda's reply:

"Dharshan Shastras: philosophical treatise on subjects which may change slowly in the future as our mental horizons expand. - it includes Ananda Sutram and Idea and Ideology." (Viitaragananda)

Astonishingly, Ac Viitaragananda Avt also publicly supported & even justified the wrongful view that Baba's darshan shastra (philosophical treatise) will be changed. That is shocking that as a a revered avadhuta - whose life is dedicated for preaching Baba's ideals - Dadaji does not know the nature of Baba's teachings. He does not know that Baba's philosophical teachings are permanent. Dada advocates the view that humans will change the philosophy of Taraka Brahma. That is indeed shameful.

But we we say he is not the only one.

Since long Dadas like Kalyanesvarananda have advocated that Baba's philosophical and spiritual teachings will be updated. Dadaji has talked about this openly on numerous occasions after dharmacakra, at seminars and meetings, in table talk discussions, and at retreats etc. When anyone raises the matter then Dadaji advances his faulty view that it will be required and needed for sadhakas and purodhas to take up the task of changing and updating Baba's philosophical and spiritual teachings. Dadaji always talks like this.

And indeed if you want proof, just write Dada an email (prs@anandamargacentral.org) and ask him.

Of course any rational and right-minded Ananda Margii clearly knows that Baba's spiritual and philosophical teachings are perfect and permanent and they will not be changed or updated in any way.

Note 2: IF DO NOT KNOW THEN DO NOT SAY

In His WT conduct rules, Baba has clearly mandated that when one is not sure of the correct answer then they should seek out the right answer and certainly one should not give the wrong answer:

Baba says, "One should not give any false answers but one should consult with one's senior for the correct answers." (37 Workers Rules, Pt #32)

Certainly then Dadas like Viitaragananda and Kalyaneshvarananda should not come forward so hastily and give their opinions when their own stated views are diametrically opposed to Guru. Baba says His spiritual and philosophical teachings are beyond time and space and should never be changed yet these two Dadas are telling that Baba's divine guidelines need to be updated. Clearly then such Dadas should consult their senior for the correct answer before responding again on this point.

Note 3: THE BLIND GUIDES

All in all the situation of these two Dadas - Viitaragananda & Kalyaneshvarananda -  is just like blind men in the following story.

Baba says, "Suppose three blind people feel an elephant to find out what it is like. The one who feels the legs might think that the elephant resembles the trunks of banana trees, the one who feels the trunk may think that the elephant is like a pipe, and the one who feels the ears may think that the elephant is like bamboo trays." (Ananda Marga Ideology and Way of Life - 9, The Science of Action)

Indeed these three blind men have no idea what they are talking about. They are just confused and do not know that subject at hand.

It seems that Dadas Viitaragananda and Kalyaneshvarananda are in the same unseemly position. They are just off the mark when talking about the shastra of Ananda Marga. Yet they insist on trying to teach others.

In this situation, we can only conclude:

Andhenaeva niiyamánáh yathándháh

Blind person is the guide

Social Issue: Inherent Contradiction

Baba

== SOCIAL ISSUE: INHERENT CONTRADICTION ==

                              ~ ABORTION ~

Namaskar,
Our job as Ananda Margiis is to keep abreast of all the issues of the
day and formulate our stand based on dharma. Ours is not the voice of
any political party, of any church, of any group agenda, of any business
enterprise, or any lobbyist agency. Our stand is that of Lord Shrii
Shrii Anandamurti ji.

Thus on each and every current social trend and issue of debate, we are
to formulate our view based on His teaching. We are to overlook who is
saying what and instead delve into the very heart of the matter and
understand that issue for what it is-- and then give a response based on
the golden teachings of AM.

That is our duty and that is how the society will grow in a dharmic way,
by His grace.

                    OUR STAND ON ABORTION

By now the point is quite clear: Over the months and years, numerous
letters have clearly shown how abortion is totally against human dharma
and against Ananda Marga.

We respect the inherent and God-given rights of each and every being in
this universe. And when that unborn fetus is a living, breathing entity,
then naturally we are to respect its right to come into form and take
birth on this earth. That unborn soul also has its dharma to become
great. And as we all know, without a human body, a soul cannot progress
on the path of spirituality.  Even the devas must take birth in order to
advance and contribute something lasting.

Baba has expressed all of the above in His various discourses and
teachings, including Senior Acarya Diary.

So human birth is something sacred and not to be denied to anyone--
including that unborn fetus. That is Baba's divine stand that we should
honor and preach.

              INHERENT CONTRADICTION OF ABORTION

Those so-called pro-choicers, or proponents of the so-called right to an
abortion, make all sorts of lame claims.

They say that a woman's body is her own and she can do with it what she
likes, yet as we all know that is false as each and every thing in this
universe is the property of Parama Purusa and it must be treated
according to His will.

They say that an unborn fetus is not yet a human being-- it is not
developed and not alive. They say it only comes to be alive once it
emerges from the mother's womb. That is another of their false claims.
And that is what is going to be addressed here.

As we know, that living being in the form of the unborn fetus thinks,
eats, sleeps, and breathes while inside the mother's womb. It is totally
alive. And here is proof of the hypocrisy of abortion.

Medical science has proven that if a baby emerges from the womb
prematurely, say at 22 weeks or so, then doctors and medical
professionals are capable of keeping that human baby alive. Although
that premature babe only weighs one pound and is very small, when it is
put in an incubator and given life-support mechanisms in the form of
oxygen and nutrition, then that baby can not only survive but grow into
a healthy, fully-developed human being.

Yet side by side, in their full-blown hypocrisy, certain abortion
specialists are aborting babies at 24 weeks-- two weeks after premature
babies are being born and surviving. And those medical associates are
laying claim that since the baby is not born it is not alive and
therefore it can be aborted. This is the sheer hypocrisy about the issue
of abortion.

On the one side medical science is clearly showing that a 22-week old
baby can emerge from the womb as a living, breathing entity and grow
into a healthy human being, and on the other side medical staffers are
aborting unborn babies at 24 weeks and giving the false logic that the
baby is not yet alive as it has not been born.

In that case, who can believe or have any faith on those abortion
agencies-- whose only aim is to justify their faulty stand and make
money by taking the life away from unborn souls.

Of course, no baby at any stage should be aborted-- since as soon as the
egg is fertilised then human life starts, at that very instant. That is
Baba's clear-cut guideline.

But as clear proof of the hypocrisy of abortion, doctors are saving 22
week old new borns, and side by side aborting 24 week old fetuses.

                 WE MUST STAND FOR DHARMA

For society to grow, for humanity to awaken from its slumber, the word
of dharma must vibrate throughout our human culture. So long as it does
not, humanity will remain as a mere shadow of what it can be.

So on this issue of abortion our stand must be clear and it must be
heard, and we must not worry if our stand is similar to certain
right-wing church activists, nor should we be concerned if our stand is
opposed to so-called progressives. Our only aim is that our stand should
be consonant with dharma.

Hence on the issue of abortion our view is quite clear: Abortions are
anti-dharmic measures that rob a living, breathing unborn fetus of its
life.

So no matter the social circumstances, whether a teen becomes pregnant
or whether it happens to a nun, or whatever the case may be, in no way,
shape or form are we ever to condone the killing of that defenseless,
helpless human babe. It too has a God-given right to live.

                      BABA'S BLESSING

Baba says, "Modern, educated people must be liberated from all sources
of dogma and petty isms. They should reject the worn out shackles of the
past and welcome the new, crimson dawn with an open mind. This will
prepare the way for all-round success in human life, and the attainment
of the highest fulfillment." (PNS-16)

Namaskar,
Arati

"A'ma'r sakal dukher ma'jhe ele tumi dukhaharan'..." (PS 1421)

Purport:

 O' Baba, You are Dukhaharan'. I was surrounded by sorrows & suffering;
I was in big problem; my life was unbearable. I was completely
miserable. But now, by Your grace, to save me, You have come with Your
gazing eyes, silent footsteps, loving smile, and sweet face. Baba, by
Your divine advent You have blessed me and rescued me by wiping away all
my troubles and suffering.   Baba, completely depending upon You with
full surrender, in that very distressed and helpless condition, I was
calling You and looking towards You. Raising both my hands in surrender
I told, 'Baba, please save me; You are my only shelter. If You will not
save me then who will.' Then at that moment You rescued me by showering
Your grace.   Baba, when I look around I see that because of Your
gracious presence this entire universe has become vibrated & charged.
The whole sky is enveloped in Your divine effulgence and my mind and
heart is drenched in Your love. Baba, holding Your lotus feet, I sing
Your glory in my heart and surrender to You...

Health Guideline: Knowing the Root Cause

Baba says, "Due to weakness of the digestive fluids, the blood gets
contaminated by acids, or if one is suffering from constipation, then
different organs of the body also become weak. In such a condition, due
to weakness of the lungs, the nervous system controlling the lungs also
suffers from debility and finally the bronchial tubes as well become
weak. That is the time when asthma becomes fully manifest." (YT, p.62)

1. In the above quote Baba is revealing the fact that the root cause of
asthma is poor and improper digestion.

2. Unfortunately nowadays the only commonly available pathy is
allopathy. But allopathic knowledge is so shallow that such doctors do
not know about the real cause; hence they treat the patient in a very
superficial way. With asthma they only address it as it presents itself
on the bronchial tubes. By this way asthma never gets cured from the
root-- i.e. from the manipura cakra. 3. So health conscious people
should choose the pathy very carefully. We have to evaluate to what
degree allopathic science is trustworthy, suitable, and helpful.

Baba

"Toma'r khunjiya' gechi Prabhu sudure bahirloke..."   #4526

Purport:

Baba, I wasted my time searching You in the external world-- At far
away external places. That was all my misunderstanding.  Due to my
ignorance I remained engaged in searching You in caves, temples, jagrtis,
different buildings, tiirthas...Jamalpur...Tiljala...and in the rivers. All
these external places I was searching for You. I wasted a lot of time in
this negative pursuit. In a confused state of my mind I was thinking that
with the capital of knowledge and understanding of scriptures I will get
hold of You. By external ostentations, using colorful dress like monks, I
will get samadhi. And people will praise me about my high devotion. This
way I wasted my time. And my heart remained ever-dry like a desert. No
peace inside. Because of my crude state of mind, I did not try to search
inside with the feeling of love and devotion. Now I feel repentance that I
wasted my time in all these useless pursuits.
I also thought that I will perform penance by different rituals. And
I will tie You with the strength of my degree diploma or worldly knowledge,
power and prestige. On that very basis I will qualify to have Your grace.
In ignorance I was thinking that with the strength of money I will
purchase virtue. When I will give donations, then people will appreciate
and people will think that I am a great dharmika. And with this way, I will
get Your closeness and realize You. So the cream of my life is wasted in
this way. I did not search You inside my heart. So because of that I did
not get You. Now I feel repentance for that...

            == ATTAINING VICTORY OVER "INFORMATION-AGE" ==

Namaskar,
These days in this ultra modern age of communication & technology-- in this
"information age"-- there is a huge volume of material floating around
related with knowledge and learning.

Beyond any doubt, there is an overwhelming amount of things to read, learn,
and understand. The biggest question that one is confronted with then is
which materials to read and understand first, and which should be last.

In a nutshell: As Ananda Margiis what should be the priority of reading and
learning in our day-to-day life? Which materials should we emphasize most.

By Baba's grace He has given the exact answer in His Senior Acarya Guideline.

ALL SORTS OF COMMUNICATION, INFORMATION, FACTS, & FIGURES

Every day we come across television and radio news, websites, as well as
magazines, newspapers and so many more things. This is mostly regarding
news from the general society. Much of this is pop-culture related or
so-called broadcasts from the powers-that-be. Then of course there is
a fast growing community of bloggers who project their own thoughts on
nearly everything under the sun.

Plus there are innumerable books and manuals related with our student and
professional lives. These things are piling up more and more as our lives
become increasingly technical-- with one certification or diploma needed
after another.

Then of course with Ananda Marga there are also many things to read and see.

But the hours and days are limited and the amount of things to read are
much more.

                           SO MANY AM BOOKS

Who does not know that there are hundreds of Baba's books. And still more
many more are in queue for printing. And when counting all the books
written by Dadas and Didis, then that number itself is also quite large.

So the same problem comes again and again: What to read first? Because the
days are short and life itself is even shorter because nobody knows when
death is going to come.

In this situation what should proper human beings do?

BABA'S ANSWER FROM SENIOR ACARYA DIARY

After discussing all this, some valuable information was passed along that
in the Acarya Diary Baba has given the unique instruction that first we should
learn and study the various aspects of AM philosophy-- social and
spiritual-- and certain related aspects also. Indeed all these Marga
teachings should be learned and understood properly. That is the first
priority.

This is how to combat the onslaught of material in this "information age".

Then with a pointed mind and a clear-cut vision one should go through the
writings of other people. Not vice versa.

Because by first studying Baba's books, in that case only will one not
fall into the chasm of dogma. Otherwise if one starts reading any other
writings first they will get swayed in that direction. This is the common
malady. And that is problematic.

Because without knowing the perfect teachings of dharma from the beginning,
then the mind will naively accept the wrong things as being right. Actually
that is what is happening these days in the common mass. People are always
confused and misguided.

WHAT ABOUT READING BOOKS BY OUR ACARYAS

The next question was raised about the possibility of reading Dada's books.

Because for a while, our various Dadas and Didis were writing about Baba's
AM teachings and their own spiritual thoughts. Nowadays they have mostly
stopped doing this for reasons best known to them. Even then their books
are still floating around, and some innocent people think that if we do not
have time to read Baba's books then why not at least we should read Dadas'
books instead. Because they are more easy to manage.

This is the naive mentality of some readers. In response various margiis
told significant things.

The conclusion was that surely in some Dada's books there are a few good
aspects-- especially on the point of history etc-- but when it comes to
analysis or interpretation of Baba's teachings, then those books are mostly
amalgamated with dogmatic and incorrect things.

And that misinformation will be enough to pollute one's understanding and
send any sadhaka far off the mark. About this, so many references can be
given; but here is one striking example.

                       AN IRREFUTABLE CASE IN POINT

One dada in his book has written that to make the Pratik Baba took 30
minutes and that was the longest time for any of His projects.

But after confirming with Baba's direct teaching it was found that this
cannot be true. To do such things Baba does not take any time. Because for
Parama Purusa these worldly tasks are effortless. That means it does not
take Him any time to execute those works. Everything is in His mind. This
entire creation is His thought projection. Whatever way He thinks then it
comes to be reality. It is as simple as that.

For greater clarity and proof, here following is Baba's exact teaching on
this very point.

                  "Sama plus'in'a' s'ama mashakena
                   Same na'gena sama ebhistribhih lakaeh
"

Baba says, "Does He need to look with greater care or attention at the
mammoth than to the white ant. No, He pays the same care and attention and
time to the white ant as with the mammoth. And to think about the entire
universe does He need to take more time or more strength? No, as He cares
about the mosquito and white ant, in that same time He cares about the
entire universe. It does not need any special effort for Him to manage
tribhuvan, the entire universe-- the three worlds." (Dharmamahacakra,
Pravacan, Sunday 29 May 1988)

                          WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN

The conclusion is that for Parama Purusa it does not take any special
efforts to design the Pratik-- or do any other work in this mundane world.
Because it is all His thought projection. No task is "more difficlt" or
more "time consuming" than any other task.

Hence the Dada who has written in his book about how long it took for Baba
to make the Pratik, he may be affected by someone else's dogmatic beliefs.
Because it may be possible that some Ram, Shyam, Tom, Dick, or Harry
conveyed to Dada this dogmatic idea, that it took Baba 30 minutes time to
design the Pratik. Otherwise how did this faulty idea come in his mind. And
the worst part is that he printed it in his book-- thereby further spreading
this false notion.

                       BABA'S GOLDEN RULE

Here the central idea is that Baba's golden teaching of Acarya Diary is
that first one should understand His direct teachings of aptka vakya / AM
ideology. And this education should go on for some time-- combined with
sincere sadhana. Because without proper sadhana one cannot understand His
books.

This dual process will give one and solid base of understanding and a mind
that can understand what is dharmic and what is not.

And then, only after that, should one spend time reading other materials.
Not vice versa.

Baba says, "A'pta vakya or absolute knowledge is true and beneficial for
all people is all ages and in all countries...The books in Ananda Marga
philosophy are all absolute knowledge." (PNS-18, chap 3)

Namaskar,
Acintya

Note 1:                    ABOUT DADA'S BOOK

In his book 'Travels with the Mystic Master' (aka 'Who's Afraid of the
Tantric Guru'), Dada attributed the following quotation to Baba.

'You may be interested to know that the work which occupied my effort for
the longest time was the invention of our Pratik. It took me thirty minutes.'

When in fact, being omniscient and omnipotent, everything Baba thinks and
does occurs in a flash. This much every sadhaka understands.

So the above so-called quotation of Baba got printed in Dada's book, and by
comparing that with Baba's teachings it shows how different wrong &
contradictory things can get included in Dadas' books.

That is the case with so many of the books written by our acaryas like
Didi Ananda Mitra, Dada Bhaskarananda, and the list goes on and on.

Write the network for more details or refer to:

http://am-global-01.blogspot.com/2008/04/which-dadas-book-to-read.html

Hence best is to read Baba's books directly.

Note 2:            THE BOOK SHOULD BE FIXED-- OR....

Already the above mentioned Dada's book is in it's 2nd printing, or maybe
even more than that. The point being that in any subsequent edition such
misnomers should be handled appropriately by either correcting them or
removing them from the book entirely. That is up to the discretion of the
author.

Note 3:              MANY AFFECTED BY THIS DISEASE

Unfortunately, in this "information age" and era of fake yoga, so many
indulge in reading and studying things other than AM ideology. And
tragically what they study sits in their brain and comes out either in
their sadhana or in their talk. For example, in our unit, there is one Dada
who is constantly on the internet reading millions of articles and or
visiting other ashrams-- he has both of these habits. His brain is filled
with these things. And the worst part is that after dharmacakra when he
stands up to give a talk, then in one stream all these false views get
expressed. Either he is propagating false yoga asanas as given by various
gurus and yoga groups or he is talking about pseudo-culture music etc. Or
who knows what will come out of his mouth. All because his mind is immersed
in those things-- not AM.

Please understand, in personal life the margiis in our unit do not
dislike this Dada, to the contrary he is well liked. That is why we pity
him so much because he is an AM acarya but he has nothing about AM or Baba
in his mind. That is the tragedy. We are trying to help him but it is not
easy because once one gets habituated to reading all that junk, it is not
easy to quit.

That is why when he gets up to speak, we all feel like he is just wasting
our time. Even then we are taking further efforts to help him. So hopefully
soon it will be alright.

Note 4:                    NOT A QUESTION OF YEARS

A few margiis think that since they were initiated 30 years ago then they
need not read or study Baba's books. This is another faulty notion. Because
they think they "know it all" already. But most of the time it is found
that such senior margiis know almost nothing. They do not grasp even the
most basic fundamentals of AM ideology. So this is another problem. Here
the only remedy is that with a humble heart one should forget their
so-called seniority and instead sincerely read Baba's words with the
feeling, "I know not". Then, and only then, will one be able to properly
learn Baba's teachings.

Note 5:                 ABOUT THE QUOTED PRAVACAN

Dharmamahacakra Pravacan of Sunday 29 May 1988: This was transcribed
directly from the tape from the Hindi and Bengali sections as during this
discourse Baba spoke in multiple languages.

        ********************************************
                   Importance of Padma'sana

Parama Purus'a BABA says, "Padma'sana [lotus posture] is just like a lotus
in full bloom. Just as the roots and stem of the lotus remain under the
water and only the leaves and flowers float about it-- and although it is
born in the mind it sustains its love for the stars-- in the same way
people sitting in this lotus posture and remaining in the world, can keep
their minds above their mundane environment. That is why on the path of
sa'dhana' this posture has tremendous importance." (NSS, '85, p. 241)
