== IF GETTING ABUSED BY NON-MARGIIS ==

Namaskar,
When doing the dharma pracara of Ananda Marga, we must expect to receive criticism and abuse from non-margiis. It is going to happen.

Here's the story of what happened when I forgot this above truth.

The other day, a margii brother in my unit came over and then we went to our program to present the views of AM. There was a lot of backlash from various attendees. People from different backgrounds vociferously opposed us. It was now what we expected.

The program concluded and we were not sure what to think - did we do something wrong?

We did sadhana for about 40 minutes and then referred to Baba's divine discourses in order to gain some clarity and understanding.

Then we came upon the shloka, "Nindantu...". It was then that all our frustration and confusion melted and we understood why we faced so much heated opposition.

Please take this as a reminder. All of us in AM should keep Baba's below teaching in mind. Then we will be able to move ahead without hesitation and do His work - without this understanding we are bound to get frustrated.

Baba's words act as a panacea that clearly alerts to what lies ahead and keeps us inspired to move forward courageously on the path dharma.

BABA'S TEACHING ON "NINDANTU..."

Nindantu niitinpun'a'h yadi va' stuvantu....

The following are a selection of Baba's divine explanations of the above shloka.

Baba says, "Let those well-versed in ethics criticize me or praise me, as they so desire; let Laks'mii, the goddess of wealth, either be gracious enough (because of my activities) to reside in my house, or, if she prefers, go elsewhere; let death visit me today or decades later. It makes little difference to me. Wise people will never withdraw from the path of ideology, the path which they accept as their ideal." (NKS, Disc: 2)

Baba says, "The sha'stras say that a person must stick to his ideals irrespective of whether he receives praise or abuse, whether wealth comes or wealth goes, whether he lives a thousand years or suffers death the next moment. Such a person is called “dhiira”. My direction to you is to be dhiira. You must stick to your ideals in spite to everything. In this lies your spiritual growth." (AV-1)

Baba says, "If I am too concerned with those who praise or censure me, I will not find time to do my real work. As I have come to this world only for a short period, my only concern should be to keep on doing the duty the Lord has assigned to me. And while doing this allotted duty, I should remember that I belong to Parama Purus'a. I have come form Him, and I will have to return to Him – and to do that, I must complete my allotted duty." (SS-12)

Baba says, "What am I going to do regarding the mission of life? If logicians and philosophers condemn me, saying, “That is a very bad man,” let them say this. Or if, due to my movement towards my goal, a certain portion of society appreciates my action, let them appreciate it – it won’t affect me. I won’t be assailed by such appreciations. And if, due to my action, Laks'mii (Laks'mii is the mythological goddess of riches) comes and resides in my house, it is good. If Laks'mii says, “No, I will quit you forever, I won’t remain with you.” that is, you will have to suffer from poverty, let Laks'mii quit my house: And if, due to my course of action, du to my ideology, Pluto, that is, the god of death, comes and says, “I’ll take you,” let Pluto do it! I don’t care! Or if, due to my course of action, due to my ideology, I am forced to live here for an indefinite period, I am ready to live here. You know life becomes boring if one lives for a long period, but I am ready to undergo that boredom, that monotony, for the sake of my ideology." (AV-12)

Thus we should all strive to inculcates His above teachings into our own lives. Then we will always hold firm to ideology and not be deterred when confronted by problems and troubles. We will have the strength and awareness to proceed on - irregardless of the consequences.

BABA'S BLESSING

By His grace, those adhering to the path of dharma are always victorious. And in the end the world realises their great contributions, regardless of how much they were vilified earlier. That is the natural law and Baba's divine proclamation. Hence, we should never be deterred or feel frustrated when facing abuse from non-margiis, just we should move ahead sticking to our ideal, knowing that victory is assured.

Baba says, "You should build a new human society at the earliest possible moment. Regarding those who are likely to create obstacles in your path – let them do so. You should remember that those who are the actual pioneers, the real vanguard of the society, are always a microscopic minority, but it is they who are destined to be victorious. Those who once opposed, or are now opposing or will oppose in the future, will in the future admit: “Yes, we are now driving our vehicle safely and comfortably along the very path which that vanguard once opened by clearing the jungle.” This means that those who cleared the obstacles in the beginning will later be recognized as pioneers. The funny thing is this, that people do not give recognition at the time it is due. This is the natural law. And at the same time you should also remember this simple truth: that in a jungle the number of tigers and lions is always few; the jackals far outnumber them. Yet in the jungle the tigers and lions reign supreme, not the jackals. The jackals are sure to howl, that is their nature; but the tigers and lions will not be frightened." (AV-6)

Purport:

Baba, please come in my mental abode, on my Guru Cakra. O my dearmost, I want to receive You with my heart content. After receiving You, I will go on gazing toward You with my full heart satisfaction. --Until my eyes get satiated. Baba, I will hold both Your lotus feet, and always keep You in my heart.

I have arranged a reception basket filled with flowers and fruits. And it has been saturated with my heart-felt love. In the corner of my mind, with heart full of sweetness, I want to have You up to eternity. Baba, today You please sit in the lotus of my heart. I am calling You with the practice of shravan, manan, and niddidhyasan. Please come. With a longing which has been hidden in the depths of my heart, since a long time, I am waiting for You. Please grant success, by Your coming. Please come and fulfill my desire, which was rising in the deep corner of my mind since ages. Today, when You will come, then that desire will be quenched. Baba, You please grace me by coming...

== MISINFORMATION IN OUR OFFICIAL BOOK ==

Namaskar,
We have all come across certain books which provide us with a distinct
glimpse or insight into a particular area of life. With their composed form
and expert guidelines, such texts, or reference materials, grant us a
deeper look, greater breadth, and a unique angle. Certainly the "A'nanda
Ma'rga Dictionary" (2005) aimed to be such a tool. How far it has achieved
this however is for everyone to decide. Here following are some key terms
that can serve as a measuring rod in this regard.

BABA'S SPECIAL DEFINITION OF SANSKRIT (SAM'SKRTA)

Each and every Ananda Margii has experienced to some or more degree the
unique and special role that the Sanskrit language has. Indeed Baba has
described and outlined the important use of Sanskrit-- both now and in the
future.

Indeed without any doubt, Baba has ceremoniously told how Sam'skrta has a
distinct purpose and use in the present-day world and beyond.

Baba says, "India is one and indivisible...Let Sam'skrta be the national
language, as this will provide equal opportunity to all." (PNS-17)

Thus according to Baba, Sam'skrta is a "live" language-- a language that
carries special utility.

                GURU'S DEFINITION IS TOP-MOST

And being the Sadguru and Founder of AM, Baba's opinion is the Ananda Marga
perspective of the term. His description is the defining point; it is the
true Ananda Marga definition-- period.

And by looking around we can easily find numerous examples in our Ananda
Marga way of life as well as in Baba's discourses that all point to the
deep significance and use of Sanskrit.

Yet, for one reason or another, the editors of the new AM Dictionary go
against Baba's guidelines and instead describe 'Samskrta' in a totally
different way-- as if Sanskrit is a thing of the past.

Because in their reference publication the editors & "experts" involved
with the AM Dictionary have basically defined Sanskrit as being a dead
language (p.115).

SANSKRIT'S GREAT USE IN THE PRESENT DAY WORLD

Why or how those editors did like this we should think, but here is further
proof of Samskrta's clear-cut importance and use in the world.

(A) Baba has given approximately 10,000 pages worth of discourses solely
dedicated to the technical aspects and innuendos of Sanskrit grammar. These
writings are captured in the various books and series: Varna Vijiana, Varna
Vicitra, Laghu Nirukta, Shabda Cayanika, P.R. Sarkar Grammar & more. And
when as the Dharma Guru His each and every word carries special
significance for the growth and development of the society, then how can
anyone lay claim that Sanskrit is a dead language when Baba Himself devotes
thousands of pages of material on Sanskrit.

(B) Baba has appointed Sanskrit as one of the mandatory languages to be
studied in our acarya / WT training centres. So Baba has included the
Sanskrit language as required learning for guiding the society. It is an
integral part of developing human understanding and spiritual knowledge.

(C) Plus in our Marga, each and every activity in life from morning till
night is characterized by Sanskrit terminology. From paincajanya to
dharmacakra, from kiirtan to sadhana, from satsaunga to svadhyaya to samyak
ajiiva, our each and every motion in life is beautifully named and
described in the Sanskrit language-- including all our mantras also.

(D) And of course each and every Ananda Margii has given up their
worldly or laokik names and instead been given a name from the Sanskrit
language. Indeed we need not look any further than how we call one another
as proof of the vibrancy of the Sanskrit language in the present-day world.

(E) In addition in India and around the globe there are thousands of
Sanskrit universities and colleges where they speak exclusively in Sanskrit.

(F) Even worldly dictionaries highlight and define Sanskrit as still being
in use. So it is unfortunate that the recently created AM Dictionary
defined Sanskrit as 'a thing of the past'.

SOME LANGUAGES HAVE DIED-- BUT NOT SANSKRIT

(G) Surely enough there are innumerable languages which have died away from
this earth such as Pra'krta, Vedic, and Pali, etc.

Baba says, "One thousand years after its birth, Magadhii Pra'krta also died
a natural death."

However Sanskrit is not one of those expired languages. Rather it is
commonly known-- and growing.

Baba says, "I am using Sam'skrta slokas and not Pa'li because Pa'li may not
be intelligible to you. Sam'skrta is better understood. That is why I am
using Sam'skrta slokas." (Prout 10)

              BABA'S UNIQUE DIRECTIVES ABOUT SANSKRIT

(H) And here are more of Baba's famous teachings on the grand utility and
beauty of Sanskrit.

Baba says "If Sam'skrta is used human unity will be encouraged and human
beings will move closer together...So you should encourage the study of
Sam'skrta." (PNS-17)

Baba says, "At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do
not have a Sanskrit name should be given one by the A'carya." (CC I, p.6,
1995 Ed.)

Baba says, "The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings." (CC
I p. 7, 1995 Ed.)

Baba says, "India is one and indivisible...Let Sam'skrta be the national
language, as this will provide equal opportunity to all." (PNS-17)

By His above guidelines, it is crystal clear that Baba directs us that we
are to use and propagate Sanskrit more and more; but those "experts" behind
the AM Dictionary are directly or indirectly discouraging it-- by that way
they  are only ruining their own credibility. Because which margii will pay
heed to the way these editors are making their dictionary.

                 SANSKRIT NOT THE ONLY CASE

Unfortunately not just Sanskrit, but the editors have ill-defined or poorly
defined various other key terms in AM life such as Vrinda'van (p.147),
prakrtaliina (p.96), vivaha (p.147) etc, as well as included some terms and
names which just do not belong such as Ac. Shraddhananda Avt, (p.8) etc.

For instance, the editors dogmatically define Vrindavan as "an important
pilgrimmage spot for the Hindus" when Baba uniquely guides us that
Vrindavan is that 'special devotional place in the devotee's heart.' (NKS)

In a separate example, there is the term Prakrtaliina which Baba describes
as follows.

Baba says, "Those who wrongly worship Parama Purus'a in the form of clay,
iron or other material substances, are ultimately transformed into
prakrtiliina." (YP, p.79)

By this definition it is quite clear that prakrtaliina is a type of
negative microvita. Yet in the AM Dictionary the editors wrongly define
prakrtaliina as "positive microvita".

Thus like swapping over day to night, the editors mix up nearly every
word-- overturning common and basic terms from our Ananda Marga way of life.

Tragically, those Dictionary writers make more mistakes on nearly every
page, thus how can I include them all here. Some further are noted below.

                       REFLECTION & RECTIFICATION

The culminating idea is that Baba has beautifully provided us with new
terms and definitions by which to spiritualize and revolutionize the entire
society. He has given us the all the tools to propel the society in the a
positive direction. So any dictionary of AM terms properly should carry the
spirit and accuracy of Baba's use of words. Unfortunately those inventors
of the first AM Dictionary could not properly hold up the AM Banner. So
those black spots should be corrected and / or others who are more up to
the task should be given opportunity to be part of the next edition of the
AM Dictionary. Because those with shallow knowledge always create problems.

                          BABA'S BLESSING

By His grace and through the proper understanding of Baba's teachings we
are sure create that great human society.

Baba says, "Build an ideal human society based on dharma. Let this be the
sole mission in your life." (NKS '81 Edn, p.155)

Namaskar,
Manomohan

Note 1:                   ABOUT THOSE INVOLVED

Who knows who has really written this AM Dictionary. Although
Shambhushivanandaji is listed & treated a key figure in all of this, I do
not believe he really could have done such a thing. So although
Shambhushivanandaji name is printed there who knows how far it is true
because these days articles are regularly written by one person yet someone
else's name is listed in the "by" line etc. Because to make their bosses
happy writers have to list the names of their supervisors as being the main
people. In this way when everything is proper, the bosses get all the name
and fame but when something is negative then those same bosses should also
be ready to face other remarks. Anyway, whatever the trend, I still do not
believe that Shambhushivanandaji was involved in such publication. Because
being a Gurukul chief, how can it be that he does not know the simple and
basic truth about many points related with our AM ideology. So surely other
people are involved and they just stuck his name there. But those others
who are involved and whose names are listed are so insignificant then what
can be said about them. Overall this book will mislead innocent readers
whereas those who are more experienced and alert have already thrown this
book away in the garbage.

Note 2:                PRECISION NEEDED

It is well known and commonly accepted that any proper Grammar book
dictionary should be pristine, clear, conclusive, and flawless. That is why
Baba has given utmost importance of purity and sanctity to our scriptures.
Because of the wrong interpretations of their scripture Buddhism got
divided. On that point we are fortunate because up till now at least on
ideological points even various narrow and dogmatic groupist people do not
have a difference of opinion about Ista & Adarsha. All have faith. Because
Baba has given everything in a clear and conclusive manner. But if we allow
this trend of publishing negative books then the situation will not be in
favour.

Note 3:     HOW THEY PUT SHRADDHANANDAJI IN THE DICTIONARY

Ac Shraddhananda Avt.- the one who diverts all his energies
towards the ultimate truth is filled with bliss... (p. 8)

By seeing this type of definition then all sorts of things strike in the
mind.

First point being that everybody knows that Shraddhanandaji himself stopped
following Sixteen Points when he took over the top chair. Means since 1990
Shraddhanandaji did (a) not sing kiirtan, (b) not do guru puja, (c)
not sing Prabhat Samgiita, (d) not attend dharmacakra, (e) not
attend paincajanya, and (f) not raise the Jai slogan for Baba. Plus he
started watching all sorts of crude TV programs and he kept himself aloof
from the margiis. Like this in so many regards he was off the mark
entirely-- not following Baba's guidelines of 16 Points and Bhagavata Dharma.

Thus who can believe that by this way they have included and defined
Shraddhanandaji in the AM Dictionary. It is downright shocking as we all
are aware of the legacy left behind by the first PP. Under his watch groupism
flourished and spread like a disease in our Marga. That is the old story
that everyone knows. In that case is our former PP Dada really "the one who
diverted all his energies towards the ultimate truth...". You should
decide for yourself if that is accurate and if his name should remain in
our AM Dictionary.

                         PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Toma're ke cinite pa're balo..."     (P.S. 782)

Purport:

Baba tell me, who can recognise You. It is not easy to recognise You.
You go on moving on Your own path of forward movement. You do not care
about any obstacles or hindrances. You always remain with everyone, side by
side, individually and collectively through Your ota and prota yoga
(individual tactuality and collective tactuality).*

You are with everyone; You never hate anyone. To encourage and inspire
one and all to do good deeds, You fill their minds with benevolent thoughts
and You give them strength to go on doing great work. Baba, Your divine
play is unparalleled, & unfathomable also.

Everything is Your expression and in that way You are always present. In
the scorching heat of the summer sun's hot wind and also in the cold breeze
of ice-covered mountains-- everywhere You are. In the deep, dark, depths at
the bottom of the ocean and at the same time in the raging heat of the
mirage in the desert, everywhere You are dancing and everything is Your
expression.
In the burning heat of the desert You provide the soothing shade of the
tree, and You pour nectar in everyone's heart. You saturate the human heart
with the divine nectar. Baba Your ways are infinite. Your liila is beyond
comparison...

* In Gwalior DMC in 1984 Baba told the meaning in English of  ota and prota
yoga-- "individual tactuality and collective tactuality".

                    If We Follow

Baba says, "You must continue doing good to society, and at the same time
must fight against the bad...On the path of dharma, one is not only to do
noble deeds; one must also fight against the dishonest people both are
virtuous actions. There are many good people in the society - noble people
engaged in noble deeds - who are not ready to fight against wrongs and
injustices. This sort of passive benevolence does not really promote the
cause of human progress in the world. What is desirable is to acquire
virtue by doing noble deeds and fighting against all sins and crimes. Both
are mandatory, both an integral part of dharma." (AV-8, p. 50-51)

Note: If we follow Baba's above mandate our organisation will be free from
all kinds of negativity. Stagnant minded people will not get the
opportunity to pollute Baba's ideology by imposing their dogma.

Indeed Margiis Can Teach

From: "Ishvara Deva"

Baba

== INDEED MARGIIS CAN TEACH ==

Namaskar,
Recently in our unit, some of us were involved in teaching others about AM, and one Dada intervened and stated that we should not do this as we were "not qualified".

This made us feel very sad. By Baba's grace we then consulted with one very senior acarya Didi and here following are the points she gave.

Really this was a very sentimental time for us and I remain so grateful for the guidance I received from Didiji.

For those more prone towards philosophical dialog, here are the essential questions we are raising.

1. Should we start teaching others about AM only when we get moksa, i.e. perfection?

2. Should we wait until we have been on the path 10 years before teaching others; or should we wait until we become a wholetimer before guiding others?

3. When can a general margii start teaching others about AM? When should a margii begin preaching the gospel of AM ideology?

Again, here it is not that I want to be a "great" Ananda Margii and give high-sounding talks to big audiences. That is not the spirit of this inquiry. Merely with our own inner heart feeling, a few of us were quietly sitting and talking to others about AM when that Dada came over and told us not to do like that.

                                    MUST START TEACHING RIGHT AWAY

Only after consulting with a senior acarya Didi, did everything become clear. Here are the key points raised by that senior acarya Didi:

The bottom line is that it is the duty of each and every Ananda Margii to start teaching others about Ananda Marga immediately. Even the day a person is initiated they can, nay must, start doing pracara with others.

Here is the support from Baba's teachings:

(A) SIXTEEN POINTS: It is the duty of every Ananda Margii to follow 16 Points and embedded within 16 Points is service or seva. As we all know there are 4 types of seva in AM: shudrocita seva, ksatriyocita seva, vaeshyocita seva, and viprocita seva. And Baba guides us that we, i.e. all margiis, are to perform all four types of seva, including viprocita seva, which includes preaching the ideals of Ananda Marga.

Baba says, "We can give joy to Parama Puruśa by serving His creations – human beings, animals and plants – and this service will be the best application of neohumanism. This service can be done in four ways – viprocita sevá (intellectual service), kśatriyocita sevá (service of courage), vaeshyocita sevá (economic service) and shudrocita sevá (manual service). None of these is inferior: we cannot ignore any one of them. People should render service according to their capacity. Those who like intellectual service, can do that; those who like manual service, can do so. But it will be best if all the four types are performed." (17 May 1982, Calcutta)

In His above directive, Baba clearly tells that everyone - new and senior margiis alike - are to engage in all kinds of seva including teaching others about AM philosophy and lifestyle. Everyone must do this according to their capacity.

That means even a newly initiated margii can and should teach the general public about kiirtan, or yama and niyama etc. To the degree one is properly aware about Baba's teachings is the degree to which they should teach others. Then they will be performing seva and following 16 Points. That is Baba's mandate.

(B) AM MISSION:
The Ananda Marga mission - self-realisation & selfless service - concerns each and every Ananda Margii.

Baba says, "What should a person do? Life is a mission. I have said that human life is an ideological flow. That is, human life is a mission; life itself is a mission; one’s very existence is a mission. Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca – “Whatever one is to do one is to do for átmamokśa – for his own liberation – and for the elevation of the entire world, elevation of the entire human society.” One is to do both these things: that is, these two things are one’s mission." (AV-30)

Thus here again Baba is directing each and every person in the Marga to perform service - i.e. helping to care for and elevate all beings. Upon entering into AM, everyone must do this from day 1. Baba does not say that one should do sadhana for ten years - or after getting perfection, i.e. moksa - then one should start doing service. It is not like that.

Rather from the very beginning every margii is to do sadhana and perform service by preaching the ideals of dharma to others. So here again Baba is mandating that every Ananda Margii must do AM pracara and explain the tenets of AM to others.

(C) SUPREME COMMAND: In our Supreme Command too Baba tells each and every Ananda Margii to teach others about dharma and inspire them onto the path of spirituality.

"...It is the bounden duty of every Ananda Margii to endeavor to bring all to the path of bliss. Verily is this a part and parcel of sadhana, to lead others along the path of righteousness." (Supreme Command)

Thus by Baba's teaching in the Supreme Command, it is clear that all margiis - young or old, male or female etc - must embark on teaching others about AM ideals.

ALL MUST PREACH THE GOSPEL OF AM

Through His mandates of Sixteen Points, by His mission statement (Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca), and by the Supreme Command, it is quite clear that every Ananda Margii should teach others about AM ideals from the very beginning. To delay this is to go against Guru's teachings. No one should have any complex about this nor should this point be shrouded in confusion. All - I repeat all - are to teach others about the principles of AM.

                                            IGNORANT ACARYAS:

NO DADA CAN BAR YOU FROM TEACHING

Thus if you or anyone in your unit is sincerely teaching others about AM philosophy and a Dada tells you that you are "too new", or "not senior enough", or "not smart enough" etc, then just inform that Wt that Baba's guideline is that, "I must perform all 4 sevas each and every day and that includes teaching others about AM ideology, according to the level of my own knowledge base."

Thus no Dada can give any lame excuse and prohibit any margii - new or old - from guiding others on spiritual life and AM ideals.

Actually, it is the dogmatic religions that preach how lay / family people cannot teach the tenets. In Christianity only the priest can do; in Islam, only the mullah can do; and in Hinduism only the pundits can do. They are the only ones to preach the gospel of their religion - not the common people. So AM is totally unique. Baba says that all can and should do.

Unfortunately some ignorant and crafty Wts want to introduce religious dogmas into our AM society by stating that only the priest class can guide others. They just want to "copy & paste" such dogmas into our Marga.

But we must remember such dogmas are hellish.

Baba says, "These [common] people were deprived of the right to study the Vedas. The Antyaja Shúdras, if they even heard the Vedic chants, or the controlling Vedic mantra aum, or the “Savitr Rk” mantra, would be committing a great sin and molten lead would be poured into their ears so that their hearing would be destroyed forever. Nor were women, however educated, allowed to hear such sacred chants." (Namah Shivaya Shantaya, Disc: 5)

Indeed in those days of old, what to speak of not allowing the common people to preach the philosophy, they would not even allow the common people to learn it. If general citizens came in contact with those teachings they would be tortured and shunned - i.e. scarred for life. That was the way those dogmatic religions operated - and still today that is their modus operendi. They feel that mantras or prayers can only be solemnized when they are recited by priests etc. According to bhagavad dharma, there is no 3rd person between the devotee and God, but in such religions, the priest / mullah etc is the so-called intermediary. Here the point is that in the dogmatic religions, only the priest is able pass on religious knowledge, not anyone else.

Tragically now some Dadas are leaning in this direction and not allowing margiis to teach the philosophy to others. We have to oppose such Dadas.  When any Dada is forbidding a margii to propagate the gospel of Ananda Marga or neo-humanism, we should alarm everyone about that Dada and unmask their name and address.

AM is totally different from the dogmatic religions. Baba has blessed us with a revolutionary approach where all have the moral duty to preach and teach the tenets of AM.

Unfortunately, some Dadas puffed up with vanity feel that only they should talk about dharma. They want everyone to listen to them. That is what their ego tells them. So they feel threatened if a margii sincerely engages in talks about AM philosophy with others.

But again, Baba's mandate is clear and pointed: Every initiated person in Ananda Marga must preach and teach others about our AM way of life.

                                   IMPORTANT STIPULATIONS

Now that it is clear that it is the duty of every Ananda Margii to perform service and teach others about the philosophy and ideals of AM, there are a few easy points to keep in mind.

1) One must not teach others about the lessons of sadhana unless one is an tattvika, or acarya etc.

2) One should not teach aspects of Baba's teachings that they themselves are not adequately familiar with. If one does this then two negative results will arise. Firstly, one will spread faulty explanations and confuse others; and secondly, the person you are trying to teach will lose faith in you.

So ti is important to educate oneself about AM ideals and consult Baba's discourses by reading Ananda Marga books.

Indeed, every Ananda Margii should be eager and ready to preach Baba's gospel to any and all who are interested. And even if they are not interested, we should try and inspire them.

Margiis can teach our kiirtan mantra to anyone. We can teach them to sing internally or externally.

MUST NOT BE CONCERNED WITH PRAISE OR CENSURE

                            SERVE OTHERS TO PLEASE HIM

Here is another dynamic to be aware of when preaching AM ideals.

Some sincere margiis start doing pracara and mistakenly think that because they are doing dharmic work then people should appreciate them. Although this is not a totally degrading mindset, but for bhaktas this is not a very lofty outlook. This has a distinct drawback as well because if people are not appreciating you, then you feel there is no point in doing the work and you may drop it entirely. Furthermore if anyone criticises you then you will be totally dejected. Side by side, some opportunists might praise you to the sky in order to exploit you and get you to attend to their agenda. These are the pitfalls of getting caught up in praise and censure.

The best is for every sadhaka to serve other and propagate AM ideal thinking that they are doing everything for Parama Purusa - to please Him.

Then if someone opposes or praises you it does not matter. Your mind will remain balanced and you will not veer from your course. Why? Because you are doing to serve Parama Purusa, not to garner praise etc. Here the whole idea is that one should not be a slave of praise or censure. Then one cannot fulfill their duty on this earth.

Those who do pracara dharma with idea that they are serving Parama Purusa never get frustrated by others' negative comments. That is the expression of real devotion. And such persons do not anticipate that others should praise them because they are doing a great job.

Whenever a person believes in their heart that it is their duty to do a particular task then they do not expect that people should praise them. For example, when a mother is caring for her very small infant, then that mother does not care if the neighbor praises her or not.

Similarly, a good sadhaka will preach the gospel of AM without any expectation of praise and without any concern for censure. One will fulfill this blessed duty to please Parama Purusa.

Baba says, "Nindantu niitinipuńáh yadi vá stuvantu: “If I am too concerned with those who praise or censure me, I will not find time to do my real work. As I have come to this world only for a short period, my only concern should be to keep on doing the duty the Lord has assigned to me. And while doing this allotted duty, I should remember that I belong to Parama Puruśa. I have come form Him, and I will have to return to Him – and to do that, I must complete my allotted duty.” (Subhasita Samgraha, part 12)

Baba says, "Regarding those who are likely to create obstacles in your path – let them do so.

Namaskar,
Ishvara

Note 1:                            IMPORTANT PROVERB

One should never forget that human life evolves gradually from animal life in the cosmic cycle of brahmacakra. Human beings were animals in the past and those propensities are still dominant in many of our fellow human beings. For this reason some people feel the need to oppose good work. If we all keep this in mind then one will not get affected when others are opposing your righteous deeds.

Always remember this proverb: No good deed goes unpunished. The sens is that certain notorious people want to abuse you because their own prestige is at stake. But pay no mind to them, go on propagating the ideals of dharma, always singing Baba's name.

Spreading the Dharma of AM...

Baba

== SPREADING THE DHARMA OF AM IN ALL THE WAYS ==

Namaskar,
Now in the general society there is an extreme dearth of sentient ideas.
Rather the rancid mud of materialism has infiltrated into every arena of
life. Even then good people all around are looking for some daylight by
which to move ahead. In their heart they have a yearning to discover
something better.

               SACRED DUTY OF ANANDA MARGIIS

As Ananda Margiis, it is our duty to share Baba's ideas in all the ways and
in all the directions. This is what the society needs and this is a
sensitive time because right now around the globe people are in search of
something. So we should satisfy their thirst with the benevolent teachings
of AM. And if we refrain from doing so then someone will fill the gap with
more faulty ideas, thereby leading the society astray.

So it is a must for all Ananda Margiis to express Baba's divine guidelines
in multifarious ways. By this way we can help the society to advance.

                     NO HESITATION IN THIS REGARD

Some in AM may be thinking that they do not know enough; or some may be
thinking that we need not do because Baba Himself will do; or some may be
thinking that in the future they will do.

But to all these thoughts, the reply is that what we know about AM we
should teach in this present moment. We should not wait for the future nor
should we remain passive thinking that Guru will do. Rather He has already
given us the duty and now the moment is ripe.

Indeed we are merely His medium, He is projecting through us. The more we
try the more He will grace us to do His work.

So what we know in any sphere of AM philosophy or AM way of life we should
teach: In our workplaces, in our communities, in our travels, and in all
sorts of new avenues. In all the places, in all the ways.

                        AM TEACHINGS MUST SPREAD

Because Baba's ideas must be spread to all people and as we apply ourselves
in this great endeavour we will become more capable media for disseminating
His divine teachings.

Of course all of these above things everyone in AM is already aware about--
we know we are to propagate AM ideals. So please excuse me for repeating
this now.

                      WE MUST NOT LAG BEHIND

But at the same time in the practical sphere we are lagging behind, a
little bit. Now so many so-called yoga groups are blowing their trumpets in
full force. Yet what they have to share is not the panacea for the society.
Here the idea is not to condemn all those saying anything in the name of
yoga. Because they are also our brothers and sisters and they may be
sincere in their approach.

But nonetheless the fact stands: Only Baba is the Parama Purusa Incarnate
and only His divine teachings of Ananda Marga are perfectly true across
time, space, and person. Only His directives can lead the society forward.

And only His teachings are logical and rational in all respects. There is
no dogma only dharma in our AM - so it can all be explained rationally.

So casting away all shyness and hesitation we should undertake our march
and spread His ideals in all the ways: With our vocal chords, paintbrushes,
keyboards, films, meetings, classes, etc. In all the ways. This is our
allotted duty.

We should be at the forefront and not be second to anyone in any regard.
Reason being, Baba's ideas are best and they should reach the people's ears
first, lest they led astray by something else.

                                      BABA'S BLESSING

Here Baba is encouraging all Ananda Margiis to come forward and express the
benevolent ideas of AM-- in whatever way they feel they are most suited. By
this way we can clean the muck from the society and build it into a
brilliant, shining humanity.

Baba says, "When litterateurs dedicate themselves to the service or
sa'dhana' of literature, they have to let their creative genius flow in
this very current: they have to cleanse all that is turbid, all that is
inauspicious in individual life in the holy waters of their universal
mentality, and then convey it sweetly and gracefully into the heart of
humanity. Herein lies the fulfilment of their service, the consummation of
their sa'dhana'." (PNS-10)

Namaskar,
Karma Deva

Note 1:            HOW OUR PRACAR SHOULD BE DONE

As we know our AM teachings are grounded in benevolent truthfulness--
satya. So our minds should be coloured in this eternal ideal and not in
pseudo-culture when involving in our pracar programs.

Baba says, "The main duty of the Ta'ttvikas is to make a propagation which
aims at collective welfare...At the time of propagation, your views, nay,
all your tendencies should be pointed towards satya, because it is only
through the propagation of satya that collective welfare is possible."
(Tattvika Diipika- II)

                                PRABHAT SAMGIITA

PS Intro: This below Prabhat Samgiita highlights the divine glory and
greatness of Parama Purusa.

"Tumi kotha'y chile, kotha'y tha'ko, keu ta' jane na'..." (PS 540)

Purport:

O' Parama Purus'a, where were You - where have You been? I have been
searching all over for You. Where do You reside - nobody knows. I have
been looking everywhere for You. You are the smallest of the small and
the most vast of the vast [1]. I have not been able to find you
anywhere. Baba, those who want You, ultimately You make them Yours, You
merge them into Your Divine Self [2]. O' Infinite Entity, You are
boundless, You cannot be held. O' Parama Purus'a, where do You reside -
nobody knows.
O' my Dearmost, in this entire universe, no single manifestation can
express Your full beauty. The moon's smile - the ocean breeze - the
smiling flower - the sweet charming sky - all these beautiful things
were created by You. You have filled this world with Your divine
expressions, yet they are not Your True Self. They are not Your full
expression nor can they express Your full sweetness. All these things
are mere small reflections of Your infinite charm. O' Ananta, You are
limitless. Your full glory cannot be expressed in words, shapes, or
forms. O' Parama Purus'a, where do You reside - nobody knows.
O' Parama Purusa, You are so gracious. In my ideation and in my
meditation, my every atom and molecule are dancing in Your flow - it is
Your grace. You do everything for me. Baba, You have been playing the
flute [3] since time immemorial and You will continue up to eternity. By
this way, You have been attracting me and drawing me closer to You. O'
my Lord, Your effulgence is infinite and unfathomable.
O' Parama Purus'a, where have You been, where do You reside - nobody knows.
O' Baba, please grace me by coming close...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #540:

[1] Here below Baba explains how Parama Purusa is more vast than the
vast and smaller than the small. Becuase of this one cannot find Him
with their crude senses.

Baba says, "On the one hand Parama Purus'a is very vast; on the other
hand He is very small. He is so vast that you cannot fully see Him. In
Sam'skrta, there are a few words to describe something very vast:
visha'la, vira't'a, brhat, etc. Out of these, the words vira't'a and
brhat are used to describe an entity which is immeasurably vast, and
visha'la is used for an entity which may be vast, but can be measured.
For instance, the Himalayan mountains are very vast in size, but still
they can be measured in terms of miles, from south to north and from
east to west. In the scriptures it has been said.

Brhacca taddivyam acintyaru'pam'...

"Parama Purus'a is extremely vast: then how can you see such a vast
Entity with your dim vision? It is impossible. And besides seeing such a
divine effulgence, your eyes will be blinded; your vision will be
completely lost."

Su'ks'macca tat su'ksmataram' vibhati

"Parama Purus'a is not only vast. He is small as well – so small, so
subtle that you cannot see Him with your physical eyes. Human ocular
power is extremely limited: if an object is very vast it cannot be seen,
and if it is very small and subtle it cannot be seen either." (SS-12)

[2] In these below quotes, Baba is telling that one cannot go close to
Him and still remain separate. When one gets closer and closer, then by
His grace, the bhakta will merge in Him - just like a piece of salt gets
merged in the ocean, it can not longer remain a separate grain of salt.

Baba says, "If a salt doll goes to fathom the sea, it will certainly
melt and become the sea itself. Similarly, if the knower of the Supreme
Consciousness goes to fathom the Supreme, he merges in the sea of
Consciousness and becomes Supreme himself. Be constantly absorbed in the
thought of the Supreme Consciousness and you too will become Supreme."
(SS-2)

Baba says, "If a salt doll goes to measure the sea, it will melt into
it. Neither can it measure the sea, nor will it ever return, its
existence will merge into the vastness of the sea, releasing it from all
cares and worries. If one wishes to take the form of the sea, one will
have to become the sea itself; there is no other way. None of His
qualities has any limit. His fragmentary manifestations are all passing
through unlimited forms, due to His ceaseless imaginative flow: none of
them is an end in itself." (SS-3)

[3] Here below Baba explains the inner meaning of the sound of the flute
and how the bhakta rushes towards Parama Purusa due to His divine
attraction.

Baba says, "The music emanating from Krs'n'a's flute shook the minds of
the sa'dhakas, causing them to echo and vibrate. This resonance is
nothing but prapattiva'da. Here there is scope neither for jina'na nor
for karma. Here mobility is the only task, the only dharma. “The way He
is calling me – I am to move accordingly.” This state of mind is one of
the sweetest states, the madhura gun'a [sweet quality] of prapattiva'da.
“I am rushing ahead due to the sweet call of His flute and entering into
His sweet and blissful environment.” Hence for Vraja Krs'n'a, there is
no need to interpret the faculties of knowledge and action. There is no
scope for fighting over philosophical ideas. Only complete prapatti is
there, and once it shakes the jiiva, he can no longer stay away. One
rushes out and starts running after Him." (NKS, Disc: 4)

Baba says, "The spiritual aspirant hears the various sounds of onm'ka'ra
or pran'ava [like the sound of the flute] at various stages, during deep
sa'dhana', during sweet sa'dhana'. The sound is called Krs'n'a’s
muraliidhvani. The sa'dhaka becomes mad because of this sound and goes
deeper and attains Ra'dha' bha'va more and more, and rushes headlong
forward." (DKG)

              ********************************************
Human Life on other Planets & Stars

Baba says, "Humans of this world-- not only of this world, but of the
entire universe there are so many planets and stars where there is human
life-- and all humans of the universe have got the same wont. And they
utilise and display these wonts according to climatic conditions,
conditions of time and space. But fundamentally, humanity is a singular
entity." (17 August 1979 DMC, Taipei)

The above is what Baba actually has spoken in English. The below is how the
Publications Department printed it in SS-12.

"Humans of the world - not only of this world, but of the entire Universe
there are so many planets and stars where there is human life - and all
humans of the entire Universe have got the same course. They tend to
display their wonts according to climatic conditions, conditions of time
and space. But fundamentally, humanity is a singular entity." (SS-12)

Note 1: In comparing the above two paragraphs, it is clear that so many
small and big mistakes have been committed by the Publications Department.
And there was no translation involved either. Baba spoke in English and the
book is printed in English. Even then, there are a variety of changes which
dilute the meaning of Baba's discourse.

For example, they changed the word "wont" to "course". Plus they omitted
the word "utilise"; then they wrongly inserted the word "display". Indeed,
each sentence has a minimum of 3-5 mistakes.

So this is the grade of work that is going on in our Publications Deparment.
And then of course there are the big distortions like AM-Revolution where
they cut the entire paragraph about margii rights.

Note 2: In His above discourse Baba is giving us the conclusive idea that
there are humans living on various planets. This is not a hypothesis;
rather it is a fact given by Parama Purusa. And He knows everything because
this is His creation.

So we should propagate this idea that there are humans living on various
planets. Still modern science is unsure about this concept. They are using
rockets to reach distant planets but what they fail to realise is that the
speediest thing is the mind. With the mind one can easily realise this truth.
It is our hope that in the near future scientists will reach this
conclusion that human beings already on exist on many other planets.
But in our Marga, this is a well-known, established truth, not a mere
hypothesis.

Baba

== I DO NOT BELONG TO ANY GROUP ==

                                  ~ Part 4 ~

Namaskar,
Everyone knows that in AM we are to follow Baba. His way is our way--
not any groupist, double-groupist, or triple-groupist approach.

Unfortunately, one new syndrome has sprouted in AM where some are
claiming, 'I do not belong to any group', but in truth they are
double-groupists or even multi-groupists.

How?

A person says, 'I do not belong to any group', yet during AM programs
they read out Fake Ananda Vaniis from all the groups. Thus they are
double groupists because they are following the dogma of two different
groups.

Here is another example.

A person says, 'I do not belong to any group', yet they attend both the
dogmatic Mahaprayan program as well as the dogmatic Jamalpur tiirtha
program. Hence once again they are double groupists because they are
following the dogma of two different groups.

Of course, we should not follow the dogma of any group, but now what is
happening is that in the name of not being part of any group, some are
following the dogmas of all the groups.

In this latest schema then, a person can be a double, triple, or even
multi-groupist. That is the unfortunate way things are unfolding at
present in our Marga.

FALLING INTO TRAP OF INDIAN RELIGIOUS DOGMA

The same tragedy befell dogmatic religious worshipers in India. As more
and more deities came into being, simple worshipers began honoring all
the gods. In the beginning people were following Lord Shiva, just like
Ananda Margiis were meditating on Baba. But then as time went on, more
and more deities came into being and those worshipers of Lord Shiva
began incorporating all those dogmatic deities into their prayer system,
until there became an entire plethora of gods and goddesses: So many
idols, so many pujas, so many deities etc. This type of dogmatic
pluralism is the chief downfall of religion in India. And Baba strongly
condemns this faulty approach in His discourse, 'Omnkarnath & Ista Mantra'.

In a strikingly similar pattern, in the beginning Ananda Margiis were
only following Baba. There was no question of doing anything else. But
after 1990 groupism started and ever since more and more groups and
sub-groups are sprouting up-- just like mushrooms in a cow field. In
that event, some naive and some opportunistic people have begun
following the dogmatic ways of multiple groups. They attend a groupist
seminar here, participate in someone else's Mahaprayan program, read
another group's Fake Ananda Vanii, go to yet another rally, support one
group's puppet BP candidate, and so many things they are doing. They are
following all the groupist dogmas-- they are double or even
triple-groupists-- yet all the while proclaiming, 'I do not follow any
group'.

                   MUST BE STOPPED IN AM

This tragic phenomenon of double groupism and multi-groupism must be
completely eliminated from our Marga. Single groupism must also be
stopped. But this double and triple groupism is even worse as it
reinforces all the dogmas: Scriptural distortions, Fake Ananda Vaniis,
MPD, tiirthas, wrong seminar system, and so much other nonsense.

So when anyone says, 'I do not belong to any group', then we must watch
them carefully and see if in actuality they are really a double or
triple groupist. Unfortunately, this is the way things have been taking
shape lately.

                      BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace, all groupism-- single, double, triple, and multi-- will
vanish from our Marga in the wake of following one pristine,
neo-humanistic ideology.

Baba says, "Universalism does not depend upon any relative factor, hence
it is free from the vices of ism. Ism thrives on the angle of group
interest...Those who are eager to establish peace should
shake off [groupism] and other allied isms." (PNS-4)

Namaskar,
Ramakrishna

Note 1:              JUST THEIR SELFISH FIGHT

Right now, huge group clash is going on, but their fight is purely personal, i.e.
according to their selfish agendas. To undertake a truly dharmic stand, certain
ideological integrity must be maintained. The below letter reviews critical
ideological issues that must be addressed.

                   PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Pathe pathe ghuri toma'rei smari, dekhite na' pa'i keno bolo..." (PS 2904)

Purport:

Baba, I am wandering around on the path thinking about You. In my
journey of life I am moving ahead, ensconced in Your divine ideation. By
Your grace my life is passing in this way. Baba, even then I am not
getting You. I am putting forth effort in my sadhana but I am not
getting Your close proximity nor Your sweet, divine touch. Baba, I am
not feeling Your intimate closeness in the way I desire; please tell me
why that is. Baba, Your karuna'* is my sadhana. When You shower Your
grace compassion then my sadhana is blissful-- otherwise my sadhana is
dry. So I am just depending on You completely. When You shower Your
karuna' then that is my sadhana. Baba, why are You playing this type of
liila with me-- why are You not always coming in close to me in my
meditation. Why do You remain so elusive.

Baba, You are the Goal of everyone's dhyana. You are the Ista. Baba,
You are the dearest One; You are the terminus. In everyone's mind and
heart, You are the most venerable one: You are varaniiyo. Baba, until
one gets You, they cannot be satisfied. You are the eternal and infinite
Source. Only You can satiate everyone's heart. That is why everyone
loves You and yearns for You. Baba, please bring complete satiation to
everyone's mind; please light the lamp of devotion. Sometimes my sadhana
goes up; sometimes it goes down. Baba, please light the lamp of devotion
in my heart so that it remains eternally effulgent.

Baba, although I want You to come close and sit and talk with me so I can see You,
although this is my desire but You do not come close. You are not coming
according to my desire. Baba, in that case, go on playing Your divine
liila; there is no harm. Because by Your grace whenever I call You-- I
easily get You in the deep core of my heart. By Your grace I see that
You are sitting there smiling. For that very reason, I have surrendered
all my love unto You. It is Your grace. Baba, I want You-- You are my
dearmost. Please make me ensconced in the depths of Your ideation,
eternally forever and ever.

Baba, with Your ahetuki krpa, please shower me with Your parabhakti...

                    Eternal Source of Energy

Baba says, "Because each and everybody in this universe gets energy
from Parama Purusa, He is the Supreme Source of energy."
"This earth and all the other planets and satellites of this solar
system get their energy from the sun. The sun is the source of their
energy. But He is the source of the sun's energy. And that's why He is
jvalantam."
"And that's why I have said that there won't be any thermal death of
this universe. Because He is jvalantam, He is present, and He will be
present forever. So there won't be any shortage of energy in this cosmic
system, though there may be a shortage of energy in some particular
portion of the earth or the cosmos." (AV-3, p. 26-27)

Baba

== EASY TO UNDERSTAND WHEN STORY IS RIPE ==

Namaskar,
Baba's following teaching is highly indicative of what today's tyrants are going through. As we watch one leader after another topple in the Middle East, it is very easy to apply Baba's mandate - as these events are unfolding before our very eyes.

NOWHERE TO HIDE - MUST UNDERGO THE CONSEQUENCES

                         Na antalikkhe na samuddamajjhe
                         Na pabbatanam vivaram pavissa
                         Na vijjati so jagatippadeso
                         Yatthatthitam nappasaheyya maccu.

Baba says, "Suppose a person commits a wrong by accepting a bribe. While receiving the bribe he thinks that no one is watching, but that is impossible. A third entity is watching everything. No one can do anything secretly in this universe. But the bribe-taker thinks the opposite because avidyá shakti has placed a veil between him and the Supreme Being. This is a very dangerous situation. It is just like a hare being chased by a hunter: the hare sits down and covers its eyes with its ears and, thinks, “I cannot see anything, so the hunter cannot see anything either. Hence he won’t be able to kill me.” This is a deadly mistake! Wherever one commits a wrong, be it in the depths of the ocean or in a high mountain cave, one cannot escape the consequences: one will certainly be detected one day or another." (Subhasita Samgraha - 18)

In His above teaching Baba guides us that no deed goes unseen in this universe. Some people mistakenly think that they can commit wrongful crimes and atrocities and keep those ills hidden. But, as Baba says, that is impossible. Parama Purusa sees everything. One will have to face the consequences - there is no way out, nowhere to hide. For every misdeed, there is a corresponding consequence. It is inevitable; there is no escape. That is Baba's explicit warning.

CHAIN OF EVENTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Now today in the Middle East we see a rapid fire chain of events taking place. Rulers who have been in the seat of power for decades and decades are being yanked from their throne. The very public, which those ruthless despots exploited to the bone, is rising up and forcing these leaders out. For years and years such rulers thought their position was impregnable. They felt they could commit any crime they wanted to bolster their own prestige and power and that no harm could befall them. Now we see how wrong their calculation was. As Baba describes in His above teaching, such leaders were like that hare (i.e. rabbit) - just wallowing in their ignorance - totally unaware of the impending danger.

Here are but a few case examples which we have all witnessed within the last month.

Ben Ali ruled Tunisia for 24 years in a regime riddled with corruption, rampant exploitation, and countless injustices. He ruled as if nothing and no one could touch him - that he was beyond. He stole billions of dollars from the state and acted as if his stature was unchallengeable. Then, as we have all witnessed, in a short instant of time, the common people revolted. A swift uprising buoyed by the youths sealed Ben Ali's fate. Those youths rebelled against the horrible economic conditions and untold ills. After 24 years of despotic rule, Ben Ali's regime was torn down to the ground. A man who once was at the height of power was forced to flee for his life, and now he is in exile and lies in a coma - totally debilitated.

Likewise, in Egypt, Mubarak thought of himself as beyond all rebuke. He stole everything from the people, and poured billions into his personal bank account while the average Egyptian scratched for survival on a $2 a day budget. Mubarak had his hand in everything and he and his exploitative machine ruled Egypt with an iron fist for 30 years. Then, as we all saw, on the heels of Tunisia's uprising, the Egyptian people poured into Tahrir square and called for his resignation. Their protests swelled, tensions mounted, and ultimately, within a few weeks, their demands were met. Mubarak's rule, once seen as invincible, was torn down. He met his fate and now sits in seclusion awaiting judgment- his assets frozen and banned from all travel. The tables have turned and he too must face the consequences of his torturous rule.

Then of course there is the imminent fall of Momar Gaddafi in Libya. As we speak, a violent clash is taking place. Gaddafi tried to strong arm the people to accept his rule, but alas times have changed. His misdeeds have caught up with him. And now he is isolated - submerged in his own delusions. In the next day or so we will witness the end of his heinous 42 year rule. The day he never dreamed of is before him. He too will find no escape from his misdeeds. His end is very near.

What these three tryants all have in common is that in the not-too-distant past they thought their rule would last forever. They never thought that they would have to face the consequences. With their sky-kissing arrogance, they thought they could cheat, kill, suppress, and exploit the people without facing any backlash. But now their time has come. There is not escape. That is Baba's stated teaching.

And not just these three, but all those despots steeped in sin will meet a similar fate. This chain of events will continue onward. That is the natural law. There is nowhere to hide in this universe. One must undergo the consequences of their misdeeds, sooner or later. That is the universal truth - that is Baba's teaching.

                                      PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCE

While the events in the Middle East are quite dramatic, and depict how even the most powerful tyrant is bound to face the reactions of their criminal activities. Baba's teaching is not limited to such despots alone.

In each and every place, big or small, wherever people reside there are some who misuse their power. Blinded by ego they think, "nothing can harm me, I may do as I please." In that way they cheat and harm others. It may be between husband and wife, boss and employee, neighbor to neighbor, group to group, or whomever. Wherever one person or group grabs the upper hand then they generally fall under the false notion that they are unbeatable.

But in all such circumstances, they will one day meet their fate and undergo the consequences of their misdeeds. There is nowhere to run or hide. Everyone must be accountable to their each and every action. That is divine law.

So none should think that only crooked and crude leaders like Mubarak and Gaddafi are subject to this principle. No one should think, "This does not apply to me."

As Baba guides us, this rule applies universally for everyone. Where there is sin - where there is injustice - where there is corruption etc, there will be consequences to follow. The funny thing is that one's ego does not allow them to think that they too will meet their fate.

All should be alert and know that there is no place to hide - all one's actions are seen by Parama Purusa.

                                              BABA'S TEACHING

By Baba's grace, we should all live by the tenets of yama and niyama and inspire others to do that same. In that way we can march forward onto the path of spirituality and leave behind the trappings of egoistic exploitation. Then our reactions will just be sweet and blissful.

We should be cent-per-cent vigilant that our actions are just. Then we will never be forced to suffer the consequences. When, cent per cent of the time we can remember that Parama Purusa is watching us - and that there is no place to hide - then we will save ourselves from all kinds of troubles and hardship. Then we will be strict in 16 Points, inspired by His loving countenance, and lead a dharmic life.

Baba says, "In an attempt to escape from one’s sins and misdeeds you may retire to the Himalayas from Kanpur, but you cannot go beyond that. So the question arises, where will you escape to? Suppose you commit some wrong, and to escape the evil outcome of those misdeeds and avoid punishment you try to hide yourself in the sky or in an unknown place or at the bottom of the sea or in a mountain cave. But can you really hide yourself anywhere? In fact in this universe there is not an inch of space where one can conceal oneself." (Subháśita Saḿgraha Part 11)

Namaskar,
Harideva

Note 1:                       HERE AGAIN IS BABA'S TEACHING

Baba says, "Nothing is hidden from Him. Humans cannot conceal anything they do from Him. If you say to somebody, “Don’t tell anyone about this,” Parama Puruśa hears you saying privately not to tell anyone. Therefore it is said that He has a separate face for each unit being, with which He sees everyone. Na antariikśe na samudramajjhe – “Neither in the sky, nor in the ocean,” nor in a cave, can you hide yourself. Nowhere in the Cosmos can you hide from Him." (Subhasita Samgraha - 21)

Pratiika: Adjustment between Two Cakras

Baba

== PRATIIKA: ADJUSTMENT BETWEEN TWO CAKRAS ==

Namaskar,
As we all know, Baba has placed great importance on the meaning and use of our Ananda Marga pratiika. Here below is a short explanation of how the pratiika is related with our cakras.

1. The two, perfectly-balanced equilateral triangles in our pratiika represent the manipura cakra (i.e. 3rd cakra) and the ajina cakra (i.e. 6th cakra).

2. The manipura cakra is the triangle pointed upward signifying service to society. This cakra gives the body energy and stamina to do action in the world.

3. The ajina cakra is the triangle pointed downward signifying spiritual sadhana and self-realisation. The ajina cakra is the seat of the mind.

4. We must practice and represent this symmetry in our day to day life by keeping perfect balance between our meditation (sadhana) and worldly work (social service).

5. Our mission is:  Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca.

A'tmamokśárthaḿ (self-realisation) is represented by the downward pointed triangle (i.e. ajina cakra) in our pratiika; jagaddhitáya ca (selfless service) is represented by the upward pointed triangle ( i.e. manipura cakra) in our pratiika.

6. Maintaining balance between these two triangles - representing spiritual practice for self-realisation & selfless service to humanity - is needed. As sadhakas, we should be in perfect balance just like our pratiika. That means we must do maximum sadhana without losing our adjustment with this world; and we must do maximum social service without forgetting our sadhana.

7. When we maintain perfect balance between our inner world (downward pointed triangle) and the outer world (upward pointed triangle) then we will get all-round progress (signified by the rising sun in our pratiika) and ultimately victory (signified by the swastika in our pratiika).

8. Achieving this state is not easy. All too often, as aspirants we fail to maintain proper balance in life. Most commonly, people get too caught up in their worldly work and their sadhana gets neglected. In some cases the opposite happens. So we must constantly assess our position and strive to keep a balance between our inner and outer worlds.

9. Here the point is that we must not just wear our pratiika around neck, but our daily life must be a proper representation of the pratiika, i.e. perfectly balance between service to society and self-realisation. That means our life must fully represent AM ideology.

Baba says, "What should a person do? Life is a mission. I have said that human life is an ideological flow. That is, human life is a mission; life itself is a mission; one’s very existence is a mission. Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca – “Whatever one is to do one is to do for átmamokśa – for his or her own liberation – and for the elevation of the entire world, elevation of the entire human society.” One is to do both these things: that is, these two things are one’s mission." (Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part 30)

10. In the notes below please read  about (a) how we use the pratiika in our social and spiritual functions, (b) Baba's description of the pratiika, as well as (c) how the pratiika is explained in the latest editions of our AM books.

Namaskar,
Divyajyoti

Note 1:                           HOW OUR PRATIIKA IS USED

At dharmacakra, we may display (a) the Ananda Marga pratiika, (b) Baba's photo, or (c) both items.

Likewise, when our acaryas perform diiksa (initiation), they may use the AM pratiika and / or Baba's photo.

During DMC when Baba was up on the stage then there would always be a pratiika on display behind Him. Still today at DMS we present Baba's photo and behind His photo is the pratiika.

Note 2:         BABA'S DESCRIPTION OF THE PRATIIKA IN CARYACARYA

Here is Baba's pointed explanation of the pratiika.

Baba says, 'Your Pratiika [Emblem]: A triangle with one vertex up superimposed on another triangle with one vertex down, with the rising sun having a swastika inside. These are symbols of energy, knowledge, advancement and permanent victory, respectively." (Caryacarya, part 1, "Treasures of Ananda Marga")

Note 3:            HOW THE PRATIIIKA IS EXPLAINED IN OUR AM BOOKS

Here below is the dharmic way the publishers have explained the pratiika on the inside pages of the recently printed AM books.

The pratiika represents in a visual way the essence of Ananda Marga ideology. The six-pointed star is composed of two equilateral triangles. The triangle pointing upward represents action, or the outward flow of energy through selfless service to humanity. The triangle pointing downward represents knowledge, the inward search for spiritual realization through meditation. The sun in the center represents advancement, all-round human progress. The goal of the aspirant's march through life is symbolized by the swastika, which means spiritual victory.

Feeling Happy by Others Suffering

Baba

                     == FEELING HAPPY BY OTHER'S SUFFERING ==

Namaskar,
We all know that Nigamananda ji became quite ill this past week, and this may have engendered an array of sentiments within our Marga family. After all, when any person is controversial then some are against him and some favour that individual.

Upon hearing of Nigamananda's deterioration of health, some become very sad while others become very happy. This is the common human tendency. We should all consider how far this is appropriate and consistent with Baba's teachings.

                                           MANY OTHER EXAMPLES

Actually there are many examples where incidents incite opposing reactions, or when people derive happiness from seeing others in pain and misery.

For instance:

(a) When the Twin Towers crashed to the ground on 9-11, many Americans were totally distraught while some radical Muslims were feeling quite happy;

(b) In his book Nagina ji says that when his boss - who used to harass him regularly - was punished by the higher authorities then Nagina became very happy. The next time he saw Baba, then Baba scolded him for his behaviour;

(c) When Shraddhanandaji was sick then his supporters were very concerned for his well-being while those who hated him due to his political ties became happy;

(d) Likewise when there are riots in the street, then some feel happy watching the protesters get knocked down, and others feel happy seeing their pain.

Here the point is that there are always some who derive pleasure from watching others get knocked down and stricken by disease. They become happy seeing another's misery. This is a very common occurrence.

Why? Because this is the way the human mind works. In the mind there is one propensity known as kru'rata', or sadistic tendency. It is this vrtti which leads people to think in this hurtful manner.

Yet Baba guides us to follow the path of benevolence. So we should all be aware about Guru's teachings and overcome this tendency of kru'rata', i.e. sadistic mentality.

                                        WHAT GENERALLY HAPPENS

Amongst the general populace, if your friend is having a problem, then you also feel unhappy as you do not wish to see your friend or family member suffer. Whereas if an enemy - or someone you do not like - is undergoing difficult circumstances, then people often feel happy. This is the common human tendency.

But this latter approach is of a sadistic mentality; i.e. people derive happiness from watching others undergo suffering and troubles. This is not at all an appropriate response, especially for a sadhaka. Why? Because sadhana can only be practiced when the mind is in a balanced state.

So we should not harbor any vrtti that is sadistic in nature, as it is wrong to derive pleasure from another's suffering. Then one will be going against the code of neo-humanism and one will not be able to perform sadhana. Even then there are some who pray to the Lord to destroy their enemies. That is even more negative; that is tamasik devotion.

                                             BABA'S TEACHINGS

Here below Baba reviews one important shloka about cultivating benevolence and compassion towards others. In so doing, He presents critical life scenarios that are invaluable to us all.

                                  Maetrii-karuńá-mudito’pekśáńáḿ
                                  Sukháduhkha-puńyápuńyaviśayánáḿ
                                  Bhávanátashcittaprasádanam.

Baba says, "Suppose someone is very sad; seeing his miserable fate people will say, “Well done! He deserved it!” But this is not the proper approach. The proper approach should be to show compassion, thinking “What a pity he is in great trouble. Had I also been in such a difficult position, how badly I would feel.” In this way the feeling of compassion (karuńa) should be aroused in one’s mind." (Ananda Marga Ideology Way of Life, Part 11)

And here again Baba guides us about what our approach should be upon seeing someone sick or in problem.

Baba says, "“Again on seeing a person in distress one should have the feeling – “Alas, how miserable is the condition of this person! Let his miseries be over expeditiously … I shall also try to remove his misery as early as possible.”” (Shabda Cayanika-4, Discourse: 27)

In yet another discourse, Baba pointedly describes how we are to feel towards those undergoing difficulties.

Baba says, ""And for those people who live in misery one should develop an attitude of compassion. One should never feel happy upon seeing the sorrows of others, but should think, “What a miserable life that person is leading. I hope things get better for him soon.”" (Ananda Marga Philosophy in a Nutshell, Part 8)

Thus, irrespective of how good or bad someone is, if they are suffering we should have empathy and compassion for their situation. That is the only way. Failing that, the mind gets twisted and and makes doing sadhana impossible.

Indeed, during PC or dharma samiiksa, Baba would point out such circumstances where a person rejoiced in another's misfortune. Baba wants that we overcome such a defective mentality. That is His clear-cut message: Do not derive pleasure from seeing others in pain.

                                                 OUR OUTLOOK

By all of the above, and by understanding the teachings of neo-humanism, as sadhakas we should strive to see all as the manifestation of Parama Purusa. Regardless of who is in problem and suffering, one must not feel happy by their misery. That is Baba's teaching.

We are to impose the karuna vrtti and arouse compassion to make the mind balanced.

The whole point is that in seeing others suffer one must not become happy. We must have sympathy; that is quality of sadhaka. We are to think that Narayan has come in this form. Then we can render real service and help them.

In this regard there must not be any duality or hypocrisy. If anyone is in trouble or undergoing difficulties, we must be sincere in cultivating compassionate thoughts within and offer our help. There must be no difference between our internal feeling and our external expression.

                                  SITUATION WITH NIGAMANANDA JI

Thus when Dada Nigamananda ji has fallen sick. There is only one response: compassion. We must empathize with his condition and we must do what we can to sincerely help him and relieve him of his pain. No matter what our personal feelings may be for his political or group interests, when he is sick the only response one should have is 100% compassion and support for him. That is Baba's teaching.

It is not that only his group cohorts should help him and those who deem him as an enemy should rejoice in Dadaji's suffering. This is not the way and to plunge in deriving pleasure from Dadaji's painful condition is against Guru's teaching.

The singular stand is having compassion for Dadaji's plight and wishing for his welfare and recovery. That is the way of a true Ananda Margii.

                                               BABA'S BLESSING

Here again is Baba's teachings - I think nothing more need be said.

Baba says, ""And for those people who live in misery one should develop an attitude of compassion. One should never feel happy upon seeing the sorrows of others, but should think, “What a miserable life that person is leading. I hope things get better for him soon.”" (APH-8)

Namaskar,
Shantatma

                                           OUR SANSKRIT NAMES

Baba says, "At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do not have a Sanskrit name should be given one by the ácárya/á. The word deva should be suffixed to the name...the more the usage of deva as a title, the better it is. The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings." (Caryacarya-1)
