~ Part 3 ~

(Note: This is the third letter in this series, links to the two earlier letters on this thread are appended below. -Eds)

Namaskar,
"The thing is when PA Dada Keshavanandji misunderstood Baba's reaction of the Yamara'j story then such a mistake can happen to anyone. After all, PA is around Baba 24hrs per day - 7 days a week - so naturally PA will develop a strong understanding of Baba's way of communication. Even then PA himself is susceptible to not properly understanding Baba. And that is proven by Keshavanandji's wrong manner of interpreting Baba's reaction to the Yamara'j story."

It was quite remarkable and eye-opening to see just how "off" Dada Keshavananda was with his explanation. I have always had great respect for Dadaji - and I still do - as he served so faithfully as PA. I remember those years well. To see that Keshavanandji can badly misunderstand Baba's expression just shows that this could (and does) happen to anyone.

ALL PERSONAL ACCOUNTS MUST BE IDEOLOGICAL

What Baba has told on the public platform and in His discourses is the word of dharma. When others tells us "this" or "that" about their personal experiences with Baba then we have to think in multiple directions how far this is correct or not.

Individual people have their own limited way of understanding and interpreting things. So we cannot always depend on their individual reports as being accurate, perfect, & dharmic.

We can only accept those accounts which are consistent with His divine discourses - i.e. which follow the code of rationality etc. Otherwise, without that, we cannot accept any single individual's report or interpretation as being Baba's actual guideline for the humanity.

BABA'S DISCOURSES ARE DHARMA

NOT DADA'S BOOKS

At a minimum, we should always evaluate how far any Baba story or account is wholly consistent with Ananda Marga ideology. We should keep this in mind when reading any book written by a Dada. All too often their books are off the mark. This has been and continues to be a problem. Dada Keshavananda's book is a clear-cut example. Please watch for further letters in this series about books by other Dadas that strayed from the path.

Dada Keshavananda's book is not an isolated case. So many books written by Dadas veer off in the wrong direction. If you want to get the right guideline, read Baba's books.

Namaskar,
Satiish Deva

Note 1: JUST LIKE THE BOGUS QUOTE

After reading this account of how Keshavanandji misunderstood Baba, a related point comes to mind: The bogus "merge in mission" quote. That so-called quote is against ideology and against Ista. Baba surely never spoke such words. Only a few innocent margiis misunderstood what Baba spoke when they visited Him in jail, and then that got printed in an unauthorised publication.

Remember, understanding Guru's expression is not always easy. Plus when visiting Baba in jail then He often remained silent and only wrote a few words on his small piece of slate / chalkboard. This was because speaking took a lot of energy and He was weak from fasting. When He did speak, then it was done in a low voice as the the security guard was always close by when Baba spoke with visitors. Not to mention that no pens, paper, or recording devices were allowed to be used when sadhakas visited Baba. So they were forced to try and remember what Baba conveyed. And nobody can remember a spoken idea or paragraph with word-for-word accuracy.

All this goes to show that the bogus "merge in mission" quote really is bogus. There is no rational or logical grounds for its existence other than people misunderstood what Baba wished to convey. As Keshavanandji did not understand, in a similar manner these margiis also lost the point. They could not understand what Baba told and instead they wrote something else.

First they mis-recalled what Baba spoke and the proof is that the bogus quote goes against Ananda Marga ideals, and then they tried to publish that quote in Baba's name. Hence two wrongs were committed.

Finally, what a sadhaka remembers about their meeting with Baba is exactly that: Their personal account. What they recall from their meeting with Baba should not be quoted and then added to the shastra of Ananda Marga. That is not the way. What they remember is simply their memoir of their time with Baba. It cannot be reclassified and published in Baba's name.

Note 2: BOGUS MERGE IN MISSION QUOTES

For those not aware, here are the two versions of the bogus quote:

(1) Here is the quote as it appears in the unofficial book - Supreme Expression I - which was published by an outside group / agency:

"If you want to see Me, do my Mission because I am merged with my Mission. I am not this physical body, this physical body is not me. I am in your hearts and you are in mine. Only devotion can demand my physical presence." (Supreme Expression I, p. 57 (1978)

(2) Next is the version of the bogus quote concocted by Ac. Sarvatmanandji & other Dadas in Oct 1990:

"I am not this physical body, this physical body is not me. If you want to know me, work for my mission, because I have merged myself with my mission."

Here is a link to the most recent letter of the bogus quote series and within that are links to all prior letters about the so-called merge-in-mission quote.

Important Point: Some margiis are using part of this bogus quote to convince others on their own point. Such margiis think that this section proper and correct, but it is not fine. Because when the whole quote is bogus then any part of that quote is also bogus, i.e. not Baba's real quote. It is just like when one bucket is filled completely with cow dung, then any part of that bucket is also cow dung, not nectar. That is why this part "I am not this physical body, this physical body is not me" is also bogus

== DADA'S BOOKS: ARE THEY MISLEADING ==

~ Part 2 ~

(Note: This is the second letter in this series. A link to the first letter has been appended below. - Eds)

Namaskar,:
This letter is related with Dada Keshavananda's book, "Mere Rahasyamay Baba" (2010, Hindi), and the god of death story. In short, Dadaji heard Ramchij tell Baba a story about his experience with death. Seeing Baba's reaction to the story, Keshavanandji wrongly concluded that the god of death really does make mistakes and sometimes grabs the wrong person at the time of death.

Years later, in His published discourse, Baba narrated this same exact story - the whole entire account of Ramchij's experience with death. And Baba gave the answer as well: Parama Purusa perfectly manages this cosmological order, including death. He never takes the wrong person at the time of death. All of this is printed and published in His discourse, "Yamara'j Ki Katha'" in Kolkata on 24 Feb 1980.

In that discourse, Baba has narrated the entire story of Ramchij's experience with death, and Baba has given a crystal-clear explanation. But Keshavananda Dada did not read that discourse, so in 2010 when Dadaji published his own book of Baba stories he falsely wrote that Parama Purusa makes mistakes and takes the wrong person at the time of death. Yet in His 1980 discourse, Baba Himself patently rejects this assertion.

"In the culminating section of that discourse, Baba directly states that such mistakes regarding death never happen. Baba tells that Parama Purusa is in control of each and everything in this vast creation in His divine kingdom, and that one faculty of Parama Purusa is that of Yamara'j - god of death. Hence since the Divine Controller Himself is the Yamara'j, then Baba directly states that such mistakes about the wrong person undergoing death never, never happens. In the kingdom of Parama Purusa such oversights never occur.

Thus, in His clear-cut, precise manner Baba unveils the truth about such types of mistakes, i.e. that they never happen. All this is clearly given in Baba's discourse-- "Yamara'j Ki Katha'" in Kolkata on 24 Feb 1980." (From Dada's Books Are Misleading #1, posted on 16 Oct 2012)

By this, it is quite apparent that Keshvananda Dada does not take the time to read and study Baba's books, otherwise Dadaji would have gotten the right answer. Then he would not have thought that Parama Purusa makes mistakes in his role as Yamara'j - god of death - and takes away the wrong person at the time of death. If Keshavanandji did not suffer from this misunderstanding, then he would not have published that story so erroneously in his book, "Mere Rahasyamay Baba" (2010, Hindi), on pages 46 - 48.

Sometimes certain Dadas suffer from the myth that they know everything about Ananda Marga and Baba's teachings. For this reason they stop studying Baba's teachings and unwittingly preach misnomers and dogmas for years and years, not realising that they are wrong. In this instance, that certainly seems to be the case with Keshavanandji.

ARRIVED AT HIS OWN CONCLUSION

Some readers may think that this is just an ordinary mistake and not a big deal. But it is more than that. It is the case of a supposed leader - someone who is an avadhuta and longtime PA Dada - not understanding a key component of Guru's teachings and then preaching that mistake to others and publishing it in his book. In his own limited way, Dada Keshavananda drew up his own conclusion.

Is this not reminiscent of one famous parable.

Once there were three blind men standing around an elephant. They each grabbed hold of a part of the elephant and formulated their own conclusion. One blind man touched the elephant's leg and concluded this is a 'tree'; the next blind man held the elephant's tail and said this is a 'rope'; the third blind man grabbed the elephant's trunk and said this is a 'hose'.

This example of the three blind men and the elephant has also been given in one of Baba's discourses, "The Science of Action."

Unfortunately, that is Keshavananda Dada's position with regards to the Yamara'j story (god of death story). In his own way, he heard the god of death story and arrived at his misunderstanding, just like those blind men touching the elephant.

After Ramchij told his near-death experience and Yamara'j story, Baba's intention in smiling and remaining silent was: "I will tell the answer later on" - and He did. In His 1980 discourse, Baba told the exact answer. He recounted Ramchij's entire story in detail and then gave the dharmic answer. And it is all published in His discourse. So Baba's approach is 100% complete. There is no room for guessing or misunderstanding. We need not interpret, think, or decide. Baba clearly recounted the entire death story and affirmed that Parama Purusa does not make such mistakes concerning the death of a human being. He does not plan on taking one person but mistakenly grabs someone else at the time of death. Parama Purusa did not confuse Ramchij Ahir with Ramchij Rajawa'r'. Baba is very clear about this in His discourse.

But Keshavanandji never checked Baba's book so he never got the right answer. That is why all these years later he is still telling the story incorrectly.

IF PA CAN MAKE THE MISTAKE OTHERS CAN ALSO

The thing is when PA Dada Keshavanandji misunderstood Baba's reaction of the Yamara'j story then such a mistake can happen to anyone. After all, PA is around Baba 24hrs per day - 7 days a week - so naturally PA will develop a strong understanding of Baba's way of communication. Even then PA himself is susceptible to not properly understanding Baba. And that is proven by Keshavanandji's wrong manner of interpreting Baba's reaction to the Yamara'j story.

So when such a dramatic misunderstanding can happen in the mind of PA Dada then surely it can happen to other Dadas. We should always think 1,000 times when hearing a Baba story etc to ensure that the story and teaching are in concert with Ananda Marga ideology.

Unfortunately, some Wt's have their own illusion on various points and they do and say erroneous things in the name of Baba. Sadly, that's exactly what happened with Keshavanandji.

Almost 40 years have passed since Dada Keshavananda first started telling this story. Someone should kindly forward him this series of emails so he can get the right answer, correct his book, and finally start telling the story properly.

The overall point is that Parama Purusa's mind is very, very vast and human beings have a limited scope or understanding. Rather than drawing a conclusion using one's own small brain, they should strictly study Baba's teaching. If Keshavananda Dada had done that, this entire incident could have been averted long ago. As it stands now, his book is wrong and it needs to be corrected.

Namaskar,
Krpamaya

Baba

== DADA'S BOOKS: ARE THEY MISLEADING ==

Namaskar,
In his book, "Mere Rahasyamay Baba" (2010, Hindi), which translates as "My Mysterious Baba", Dada Keshavanandji shares many of his experiences of being alongside Baba. As we all know, Keshavananda served as PA to Baba for years and years. So he has many remembrances.

However, that does not mean that Dada was always able to interpret everything properly. In particular, on pages 46- 48 of his book, Keshavananda tells the story of Yamara'j, the god of death. And he gives his own interpretation as well. It is a most interesting story and it is all recounted below.

The fascinating part is that after Keshavanandaji first started telling this story years ago. Thereafter, in 1980, Baba Himself delivered a discourse in order to correct Keshavanandaji's faulty interpretation.

Tragically, years later and still today, when writing his book, Keshavananda remains in the dark about the very story which he himself tells. He is still telling it with the wrong understanding - despite Baba's correction. Is that not ironic?

BABA'S MAGNANIMITY - BEYOND HUMAN UNDERSTANDING

When Baba is that most vast Entity, i.e that Cosmic Purusa, then as human beings, as unit microcosms, it is not always possible for us to perfectly understand Baba's each and every action. And in certain cases some people get it totally wrong-- 100% false & backwards.

The overall idea being that there are so many scenarios and interactions and Baba has His own special Supreme way of dealing. Naturally then it is not so easy for us to exactly say what is what & which is which.

More specifically, with all due respect and honor, those in Baba's physical contact cannot be fully depended upon to properly recount and explain each and every aspect of Baba's expression.

As a case in point here following is the story of Yamara'j - god of death - as told by Dada Keshavanandji, who as we all know was PA to Baba.

THE STORY OF YAMARA'J AS TOLD BY PA DADA

Over the years Keshavanandji has told this story at a variety of seminars, classes, & trainings. Hence, many of us are well familiar with Dadaji's portrayal. And of course, more recently, he has printed it in his book, "Mere Rahasyamay Baba" (2010, Hindi). (Note: To date, this publication has yet to be translated into other languages, as far as we know. - Eds)

Here following is that story.

(Note: This is not a direct translation from the original Hindi version, but rather an accurate summary of that story.)

During the jail period, there was a convicted criminal, nay murderer, who was given the duty by the jail officials to serve as Baba's personal cook. The convict's name was Ramchij Rajawa'r' of Chhapara' District - as you may recall. And he served Baba well.

In the greater liila, Ramchij was blessed with the opportunity to be with Baba - such are the loving ways of Parama Purusa.

One day while Keshavanandji was along with Baba then Ramchij Rajawa'r' excitedly came up to them and asked if he could tell the story of one occasion how he (Ramchij Rajawa'r') had experienced his own death.

Baba gave His approval so Ramchij proceeded to give his account.

Ramchij Rajawa'r' said: 'Baba, one day I died - I experienced death. I was suffering from a fever lying there on my cot and two uniformed officials approached and told me in an authoritative voice that my time had come and that I must go along with them. With no other option I followed their order and step by step they led me up to kingdom of the god of death-- to Yamara'j.'

'I waited there with the guards and when my turn came then the those two officials firmly brought me before the grand throne of Yamara'j. And they loudly announced my name to the god of death.'

'They said, 'Here before you we have brought Ramchij Rajawa'r'.'

'Immediately, the Yamara'j became furious and he loudly shouted at those at his two officials.'

'Yamara'j scolded them, 'You neglectful fellows. I (Yamara'j) did not tell you to bring Ramchij Rajawa'r'. I told you to bring Ramchij Ahir. You have confused the names and brought the wrong person. You completely misunderstood my command. Now go back and return Rajchij Rajawa'r' to his locale and bring me Ramchij Ahir. Immediately do as I say'.'

Ramchij Rajawa'r' continued on with his story:

'The next thing I knew I was now lying on that special type of stretcher used for carrying bodies to the cremation ground. And I was surrounded by all my family members and various persons from my village. I saw that they were all crying. So when I opened my eyes and spoke to them they were startled and completely overjoyed.'

'And the first thing I said to them is where is Ramchij Ahir. I want to know about Ramchij Ahir. Right away two boys were sent to go get Ramchij Ahir.'

'They ran across the village and saw Ramchij Ahir milching his cows and then Ramchij Ahir looked over at them and then fell over - he died then and there, at that very moment.'

In that way Ramchij Rajawa'r' recounted his story to Baba one night about how he had been brought to the doorstep of death. And
Keshavanandji heard it all.

DADAJI'S (MIS)UNDERSTANDING

Afterwards, when it was quiet, Keshavanandji looked at Baba and asked if things like this really happen. Baba just smiled.

Seeing Baba's response and noting that Baba did not object to the story, Keshavanandji concluded in his own mind that Ramchij Rajbhar's story is a 100% accurate and stands as a realistic depiction about death. That's to say, Keshavanandji concluded that such mistakes can happen: Sometimes the wrong person is mistakenly put on their death-bed.

Thus thinking that he had heard a most amazing and incredible story, Dadaji began recounting this story in so many different lectures, seminars, and classes etc - all the while describing how due to an oversight or error in Yamara'j's system, sometimes the wrong person dies.

And indeed that is how he wrote about it on pages 46 - 48 of his book "Mere Rahasyamay Baba" (2010, Hindi).

BABA CLARIFIES THE MATTER

However, some years after that initial event, in dharmic fashion Baba corrected and clarified the matter for one and all.

In His discourse "Yamara'j Ki Katha'" in Kolkata on 24 Feb 1980 (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 18 (H) & (B)), Baba makes explicit & detailed reference to Ramchij Rajawa'r's story about the god of death. And the first thing that Baba says is that his helper - Ramchij Rajawa'r' - is not a liar and that he saw everything in a dream. This much Baba says to begin and then Baba goes on to tell the entire story about Ramchij's death - like experience.

And in the culminating section of that discourse, Baba directly states that such mistakes regarding death never happen. Baba tells that Parama Purusa is in control of each and everything in this vast creation in His divine kingdom, and that one faculty of Parama Purusa is that of Yamara'j - god of death. Hence, since the Divine Controller Himself is the Yamara'j, Baba directly states that such mistakes about the wrong person undergoing death never, never happens. In the kingdom of Parama Purusa such oversights never occur.

Thus, in His clear-cut, precise manner Baba unveils the truth about such types of mistakes, i.e. that they never happen. All this is clearly given in Baba's discourse-- "Yamara'j Ki Katha'" in Kolkata on 24 Feb 1980.

DADA K MISUNDERSTOOD ENTIRELY

By reading and hearing Baba's perfect clarification, we can all understand that from the very beginning Keshavanandji misunderstood Baba's reaction to the story when it was first told to them by Ramchij Rajawa'r' in the jail.

That time Keshavanandji thought that since Baba smiled therefore He was insinuating it is true and that such mistakes can and do happen at the time of death. But that was the wrong conclusion entirely. Means Keshavanandji was off the mark.

So this is one clear-cut example how someone was telling a Baba story that was clearly shown to be incorrect. Because it is Baba Himself who corrects the story. Even then, Dadaji's book (2010) was published 30 years - 3 entire decades - after Baba's discourse on this topic and still Dadaji got it wrong.

Now in 2012, 32 years later, tragically, Keshavananda remains unaware that he is giving the wrong teaching. Here's the proof: Dada told it in the wrong way again in his book, "Mere Rahasyamay Baba" (2010, Hindi), on pages 46 - 48, and still no errata page has been publicly issued.

WHY IT HAPPENED

The natural question is why did this happen. Why after all these years, after all it was 30 years between Baba's 1980 discourse and the 2010 publishing of Dada's book, is Dada still telling the story incorrectly.

We can only conclude that Dada is lacking in common sense. Even though he was Baba's PA still he could not understand Baba's simple gesture. That is one part. And the second aspect is that Dadaji wrongly thinks he knows all of Ananda Marga ideology, therefore he does not read Baba's books and could not come up with the right conclusion.

Namaskar,
Jiivendra

Note 1: NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT

We should all be aware that there are serious mistakes in so many books written and published by Dadas. The above is but one example of many. More are coming. The overall spirit is the Baba's Personality and teachings should be properly portrayed and if any book written - by a Dada or anyone at all - goes against this ethic, then the wrong needs to be pointed out and corrected.

Baba

"Egiye calo, egiye calo..." (PS 156)

Purport:

My brothers and sisters, we should move on towards our goal, Parama  Purusa. Today the glorious dawn has come. We should take everyone along with us; no one should be left behind. Everyone is ours. Nobody is other. We all belong to one family. Our father is Parama Purusa; we have to move together on the path of His teachings. Human society is one and indivisible, let no fissiparous tendencies be allowed to destroy this. Baba's grace is with us....

== HOW FALSEHOOD BECAME TRUTH ==

Namaskar,
There are two schools of thought with regards to Baba stories.

(1) Some in our Marga think that whatever someone writes as a Baba story is OK and that margii readers should not say anything even if it is wrong. They feel one should just read the story, accept it as is, and keep quiet.

(2) Others think there should be careful scrutiny of each Baba story to see how far it is correct or not. They feel that, when needed, there should be constructive criticism of the story to improve its accuracy, clarity, and devotional expression.

These are the two diametrically opposing views and both sides have their own logic. Let's take a deeper examination of this issue. These days more and more are writing Baba stories and as a community we should decide how to proceed.

MYTHS ABOUT LORD SHIVA AND LORD KRSNA

Nowadays, many think that Lord Shiva smoked hashish, and that one of his sons, Ganesh, had the face and head of an elephant, and that Lord Shiva would lie down in the cemetery totally drunk. These are but some of the prevailing myths surrounding Lord Shiva.

Plus it is popularly thought that Lord Krsna was a simple cowherd who chased after females and that the gopis were all females. These are but some of the many myths surrounding Lord Krsna.

Thus there are a plethora of misconceptions surrounding these two great personalities, i.e. Taraka Brahmas.

As disciples of Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, we must not let history repeat itself. We must ensure the world learns the truth about Baba and His divine teachings. We must not give any scope for the creation of such myths about Baba. And the best way to achieve this is to ensure that our presentation of His divine Personality is accurate and true.

BOOKS ARE VIEWED AS TRUTH

Recently someone published a book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years. Although the book was written with the best of intentions, we must ensure its expression properly reflects Guru and His teachings.

The reason great care is needed is that books are seen as veritable authoritative sources of truth. That is the basic belief about books. When a person reads something that has been printed, published and bound as a book, they take that information to be substantiated and true. That is the common approach adopted by both the public and experts. Books then have a huge effect on the common psyche.

Yet tragically, books often contain serious misconceptions and stray far from the truth.

For instance, there are numerous books which describe how Lord Shiva smoked hashish, or how Lord Krsna chased after females. And the general public accepts those falsehoods as true. Why? Because they were published in a book.

Not only that, people generally believe in the existence of the mythological characters, Ram and Hanuman. Why do people believe they are real? Because Ram and Hanuman have been written about and printed in a book, the Ramayana. Yet both Ram and Hanuman are totally mythological figures. But because their story has been printed in book form, people think they are real.

The problem does not end there. On Indian soil, thousands have been killed over this issue, even within the last 20 years. Specifically, there have been court cases, rallies, protests, threats, and attacks over Ram's supposed birth place. Ram's existence is 100% mythological but hundreds of millions of people are ready to die in order to secure Ram's birthplace.

So see the situation: Ram is an imaginary figure, yet hoards of people are arguing over where Ram was born - and fighting about it. Yet, Ram never took birth on this earth. How did this confusion happen? By reading about Ram in a book, people came to believe he is real. Such is the power that books have over people.

WIKIPEDIA EXAMPLE

Wikipedia, the popular on-line Encyclopedia, also places huge confidence and credence into books.

For instance, if any information is printed in a book then it can be added to a Wikipedia topic and nobody can change or delete it. If it is stated in a book that Baba supported racism or communalism or so many other mistakes, then those false claims can be added to the Wikipedia site. All because those falsehoods have been printed in a book.

Thus when someone has recently written a book about Baba which contains innumerable falsehoods, should we just sit back and think that it is ok? Or what should be our approach.

THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM

A small few may be thinking that, "Come on, what Devashish has written in his book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, is fine. We all know that Baba is most loving and the Divine One, so if there are some errors or misconceptions in the book it is not a big deal. Just let it be."

Some individuals mistakenly justify the matter this way: "All margiis know that Baba was and is most loving and this book is for margiis; so if there are mistakes in the book, that is not a problem. We can mentally correct the book as we read it and enjoy. After all, we know about Baba so we will not get confused and misguided by this book." This is their defective mentality.

This type of thinking has a serious flaw. Here is that flaw.

That problem is that it will not be long before all of us who were blessed to be with Baba physically are gone from this earth. Naturally then people will base cent-per-cent of their knowledge about Baba on what is written about Him, i.e. what is printed in the books.

FALSE CLAIMS BY DEVASHISH ABOUT BABA

So when a book makes totally outrageous claims like the following, readers and the general public will be bound to get a wrong idea about Baba and Ananda Marga. Because Devashish has written all of the below and more in his book:

(1) Baba is Bengali (p.34);
(2) Baba's favourite language was Bhojpuri in His childhood (p.114);
(3) Baba has a loose tongue like a drunken policeman who is rude and harshly abuses innocent people and criminals just to irritate and torture them (p.211);
(4) Baba is merely a saint like Saint Paul, Mother Teresa, Mohamed & Swami Ramdev (p.166);
(5) Kapalik sadhana is a ritual (p.151);
(6) Baba ordered His own book, A Discussion, to be burned (p.185);
(7) Buddha is also Taraka Brahma (p.179);
(8) As a Guru, Baba celebrated Durga Puja (p.263)
(9) And so many other misleading statements and falsehoods.

But making all these types of misleading and erroneous statements is not good. Enemies will certainly take advantage of the situation and turn these misstatements into major, mountainous issues, i.e. turning a piece of dust into the Himalayas. Because that is what enemies do. They look for points of weakness and areas to attack and then use that to make a huge cases against their foes.

So these false statements from Devashish's book are extremely problematic and cannot be overlooked. It is by these types of ludicrous statements that the world came to think that Lord Shiva just smoked hashish or that Lord Krsna just chased after young females. Such dogmas flooded this earth for centuries, nay thousands of years, until finally Baba Himself came as the Taraka Brahma and dispelled these myths about Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna.

HOW IRONIC

The irony is that now misguided disciples are creating the same types of problems all over again about Baba Himself. If we let Devashish's book stand as is without offering any clarifications or corrections, readers will most definitely get the wrong idea about Baba. Not only that, those who are enemies of the Marga, will use Devashish's book as ammunition to attack Baba. In that case, once again a Taraka Brahma will have to take advent and clear up such misconceptions about Baba.

Because enemies will take one relatively small point, like Baba is Bengali or that Baba favours Bhojpuri, and use that to defame Him and charge Him as being a hypocrite. They will accuse Baba of preaching about neo-humanism yet at the same time harbouring communal sentiments. Because that is what is written in Devashish's book.

That is what enemies do. They take whatever ammunition they can find and blow that up into monstrous proportions in order to take someone down. Unfortunately, Devashish's book is an entire ocean of ammunition for such enemies. They will have a field day with his book.

THE BOOK HAS SO MANY MISTAKES

There are countless mistakes in the book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years. To correct them all we will have to write every day for weeks on end.

If we fail to raise this critical matter then so many falsehood will emerge. Just as it was propagated that Lord Shiva smoked hashish or that His son was born with an elephant face, similarly so many wrong claims will be made about Baba. And people will accept those as true. This is the problem.

Now I put forth my request to all margiis that they should also participate in cleaning-up and addressing this serious issue.

CONCLUSION

For reasons mentioned above, if any publication about Baba and Ananda Marga has any mistakes we should point out those errors and go on the public record. Because if any published mistake remains unopposed, that becomes unassailable proof in the future. But if we oppose such falsehoods now - before it is too late - then wrongs will be brought to light and corrected. Such is what needs to happen with Devashish's book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years.

Namaskar,
Divyajyoti

Note 1: WHO DOES NOT LIKE THIS

An honest publisher or writer is always looking for healthy criticism; but those who are cowardly, selfish, and egoistic do not like their writings to be critiqued. It is the same as if you are telling the truth, then you are not afraid if people discuss that topic, since your point is true. But if you are telling a lie then you are always afraid that the matter should not be discussed.

Note 2: FINE INTENTION, POOR SHOWING

Overall, Devashish's intention is fine and well; that is not the problem. The main hurdle is that he is sloppy and not up to the mark in various ways, including a lack of professionalism, as he did not verify the points in his book with various experts. Plus his devotional expression is also suspect.

== Re: DEVASHISH BOOK: MISINFORMATION II ==

Namaskar,
Yes, I too have been reading brother Devashish's book - Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years (2010) - and have noticed quite a number of inconsistencies between Devashish's writing and Baba's divine teachings.

Here following is yet another example.

DEVASHISH'S DOGMATIC CLAIM:

BABA'S "FAVORITE" LANGUAGE IS BHOJPURI

On page 114, paragraph #5, lines 5 and 6, Devashish writes that Bhojpuri is "Baba's favorite childhood language."

Thus in his book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, Devashish makes the false and erroneous claim that Baba has partiality toward a particular language and that "Baba's favorite childhood language" was Bhojpuri.

BABA LOVES ALL LANGUAGES

Yet as Ananda Margiis, we know that Baba has equal regard and respect for all languages. All languages are His own and He has no single favourite language like Bhojpuri or Swahili. He loves all languages equally.

Here following are some of Baba's teachings on this point.

Baba says, "All languages of the world are fundamentally one and the same. Consequently, all languages should carry equal importance and equal respect." (AFPS-9, The Language Issue)

Baba says, "All languages must be given equal respect. One should remember that all languages are the languages of Parama Puruśa." (AFPS-3, Human Society Is One and Indivisible – 3)

Baba says, "Languages are the common property of the Cosmic Father. We should love all these languages. " (Prout Nutshell-15, Talks on Prout)

Baba says, "Brahma sádhakas see Brahma in everyone and everything, loving all equally. They look upon all countries as their own country, all languages as their own language, and all races as their own race." (AMIWL-8, The Supreme Question – 2)

BABA PERFECTLY REPRESENTS HIS IDEALS

And as we know Baba is the embodiment of His ideals. He is the Ista of Ananda Marga ideology and with that attribution He personifies each and every AM teaching. Ista means the embodiment of the entire ideology. There is nothing that He teaches which He does not follow.

Thus when Baba has declared that "all languages should carry equal importance and equal respect", and "all languages are the languages of Parama Puruśa", then it is certain that He Himself loves all languages equally. There is no question of Him favoring any particular language.

Every bhakta of the Marga easily understands this point: That Baba perfectly embodies His teachings and has equal respect and regard for all langauges.

Is it not insulting then for Devashish to falsely claim that Baba loves Bhojpuri and not Bengali, Spanish, Tagalog, Italian, German, French, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Swedish, Thai, Burmese, Latin and so many other languages.

After all, Baba loves all languages equally; they are all part of His divine creation.

Baba says, "Languages are the common property of the Cosmic Father. We should love all these languages. " (Prout Nutshell-15, Talks on Prout)

DEVASHISH'S BLUNDER

Unfortunately, this basic truth Devashish could not grasp and even worse He printed this erroneous claim in his book, thereby misguiding new readers and the general public.

While there are any number of problems with Devashish' book, most glaring is that Devashish makes it look like Baba has given universal teachings for others to follow while Baba Himself does something else in His personal life.

This is the terrible tragedy associated with Devashish's book: Instead of glorifying Baba, his misguided publication - Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years (2010) - leads in the opposite direction. That is the unfortunate outcome of his writing. We can all consider why this has happened.

Sadly, there are countless erroneous and misleading claims in Devashish's book, and all of them should be unearthed so such injustices are corrected and not repeated. Please come forward with your thoughts and comments.

Namaskar,
Gagan

Note 1: MORE ERRORS IN DEVASHISH'S BOOK

The below two letters point out how Devashish wrongly claims in his publication that Baba ordered for His book - A Discussion - to be banned and ultimately burned. But this is totally false. Baba never gave such an order. Here are all the details, facts and proof:

Baba, the rush of the restless breeze and the humming of the swaying trees in the forest go on calling You always. Do You reply to their call or not? I will ask them secretly about this.

If You do not understand then with the heartfelt composition of a song, I will explain their feelings to You.

O' my dearmost Baba, I will call out to You again and again, please grace me by giving a response...

== Re: DEVASHISH BOOK: MISINFORMATION ==

Namaskar,
I agree wholeheartedly - there is no question of Baba ever ordering to ban or burn the  book, "A Discussion". Baba never did like this and indeed many of us have this publication, "A Discussion", on our bookshelf.

So what Devashish has written in his book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, is totally false. Devashish's assessment is completely incorrect.

FURTHER EVIDENCE

Here is further evidence that Baba did not ban or burn this book. Baba Himself ordered that this book - "A Discussion" - be republished and titled as "Discourses on Prout" and placed in the Prout Nutshell Series.

It only stands to reason then that if Baba gave the order to ban and burn the book - "A Discussion" - then He would have given the order to ban and burn "Discourses on Prout." But that He did not do. Rather He purposely ordered that it be included and published in His Prout in a Nutshell series.

Indeed if you open Prout in a Nutshell (Part IV), you will see that "Discourses on Prout" is the first chapter - with the exact date and place as the book "A Discussion." And every letter, word, and paragraph that is printed in "Discourses on Prout" is cent-per-cent the same as "A Discussion." There is not a phrase or sentence from "Discourses on Prout" that does not appear in "A Discussion."

So to think that Baba would have banned a book, burned it, and then republished it all over again under a separate title is absolutely ludicrous. Baba would not do like and and indeed Baba did not do like this. Baba never gave the order to ban and burn "A Discussion" - rather He wants that the ideas presented in this book be shared with one and all. Everyone should read this book.

So it seems brother Devashish needs to be a little more careful with His "facts" before publishing a book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, and distributing it all over the world for all to see. I sincerely question what other misnomers and falsehoods may in this book. I think there may be many.

BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace we must all be active and not allow any wrong history or facts to be published in the name of Baba and Ananda Marga, whether those things were done intentionally or not. If someone does go to the extent of publishing and publicizing a book, the burden is on them to make sure it is accurate before it reaches the shelves. Too bad brother Devashish did not do this.

Baba says, "You are following the path of sádhaná. Always remember that you must establish yourself in pure devotion and not formal devotion. And to become established in pure devotion you must perform virtuous deeds, practise spiritual sádhaná regularly, render selfless service to the world, and wage a relentless fight against wrongs and injustice. There is no room for cowardice. May you be victorious." (Ananda Marga & Way of Life, Vaedhii Bhakti and Shuddhá Bhakti)

Namaskar,
Omprakash

Note1: ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO BOOKS

Here is the only difference between "Discourses on Prout" and "A Discussion."

In His book, "A Discussion" there is a short 11 or 12 line section on page 23 where Baba lists the 7 stages of physical revolution. This very brief listing is not printed in "Discourses on Prout." Other than this 1/2 page section, the two books "A Discussion" and "Discourses on Prout" are exactly the same.

Regardless, in no way did Baba ever declare that the book should be "banned" or "burned."

It is common human nature to trust what is in print to be correct. We assume the writer, editor and publisher have verified the accuracy of each and every word.

Though, this type of feeling is often exploited as well - dogmas and wrong ideas are also put in print and taken as true. This misguides both readers and the general society.

Unfortunately, Devashish's book - Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years - falls in this latter category. It is very laced with countless errors and mistakes that lead the reader astray.

Every concerned Ananda Margii then should be aware of brother Devashish's recent publication, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years (2010). Indeed, this book demands a closer look by our entire Marga family.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Before raising the point from Devashish's book, it will be helpful to review a few facts.

As most of us know, Baba's own book, "A Discussion" (1959) is an elaboration of His Prout philosophy and the book is based on the six discourses He delivered from 17 Oct 1959 to 22 Oct 1959 at the first-ever Prout conference in Jamalpur. A link to Ac Sujiit jii's first-hand account of this conference is appended below.

Hence the historic book, "A Discussion", stands as Baba's expanded account of His Proutistic teachings. It is indeed a seminal work that will last for the ages.

DEVASHISH WRONGLY CLAIMS

BABA BANNED AND BURNED HIS BOOK: "A DISCUSSION"

Unfortunately, in the book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, there are some erroneous and harmful statements made about Baba's divine book, "A Discussion." In Part Two, chapter XXI, on page 185, Devashish makes the following claim.

Devashish writes: "a separate booklet entitled, A Discussion, but Baba eventually banned the book and ordered existing copies to be burned." (Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, p.185, para #6, lines 12 & 13)

(Note: For those who do not have Devashish's book, we will scan that page for you if you so request.)

Thus Devashish clearly states that Baba ordered that His own book "A Discussion" (1959) should be banned and even burned. Such is the proclamation made in the book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years.

But such a proclamation is nothing but Devashish's own fabrication. There is not a shred of truth in such a statement.

Baba never ever banned His own printed publication titled "A Discussion" and He certainly never ordered that it should be burned. These are just erroneous, nay silly, statements put forth by brother Devashish.

THE WHOLE TRUTH

Here the point is that Baba never banned the book "A Discussion" nor did He give the order to have the existing copies burned. I personally have a copy of "A Discussion" directly in front of me. And I know of many senior and respected margiis who also have this book. Baba never told them, neither directly nor indirectly, to throw it away or burn it.

So there is no logic or reasoning, nor a shred of truth, to Devashish's claim on page 185 that Baba ordered His book, "A Discussion", to be banned and burned.

So it is a shame that in his attempt, Devashish gets this part entirely wrong and makes it look as though Baba banned and burned His own book, "A Discussion" - as if there was something wrong with it.

Devashish's false claim does nothing but lead the reader astray.

SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BOOK

Verily brother Devashish's book is filled with countless errors, oversights, misleading statements and other problems that only serve to misguide the reader about our Beloved Baba.

I kindly request others to write in with their review of this book - as I do not have the time to point out all of the problems.

Plus there are certainly many other errors in the book which you will find that I did not.

Really then this must be a collective effort. After all, it is not everyday that someone publishes a 400+ page book about Baba that is littered with errors and so poorly reflects His True Self.

As Baba rightly warns us, we should be wary of such intellectuals.

Baba quote, "They [intellectuals] are very dangerous. Regarding such people Shiva has said, Lokavyamohaka´raka - they themselves are misguided people and they are always misguiding others. Vya´moha means psychic disease. Lokavya´mohaka´raka - they are very dangerous people...So, you boys and girls, be careful of the serpentine noose of those so-called intellectuals." (Ánanda Vacanámrtam Part 5, Don't Be Misguided)

Namaskar,
Vidya

== RE: LACK OF UNDERSTANDING ABOUT GURU ==

~ Part 3 ~

Namaskar,
I am glad that you have made a clear reference to the "Bhagavan Anandamurti" book. That is the book Narada wrote while in jail, firstly with his former wife's help and then rewrote years later with another sister's help from NY, whom he also married. By the way, Narada told me in Ranchi that he has two children with each wife, sadly one of the wives passed prematurely.

MISTAKES APPARENT IN THE BOOK

You have clarified many things. Now, years after the publication of this book, margiis are able to perceive, understand, and recognise Narada's blunder, as well as the distinct danger of jumping into writing a book before a person has matured in their knowledge and spiritual realisation.

While many people may have gotten the wrong understanding about Baba from this book, but all the more intelligent margiis I spoke with in my unit understood all the errors in the first place. They did not get led astray by Narada's erroneous publication.

This book has always given me an uncomfortable feeling for several reasons which I will mention now that you have raised the issue on your forum. I am glad about this and hope others will also express their feelings on this important topic.

Firstly, I felt that in the guise of writing about Guru, this book was written primarily so Narada could talk about himself. That is very discernible and apparent to any reader. Many have mentioned this when speaking about this book.

Next, Narada wrote this book to share how Guru is a great yogi. But due to Narada's own limited understanding, he defines our Sadguru as being merely a bhagavan, as he felt that this was the highest way to describe a spiritually realised being. Narada clearly did not take the advice or guidance from any senior acarya with more understanding of Baba as Sadguru and the spiritual realm. Nor had he grasped from his svadyaya of Baba's books the distinctions regarding the Absolute/ Infinite nature of Parama Purusa.

To use "Bhagavan Anandamurti" as the title of a book - published for both the public as well as margiis - was his own ignorance and his arrogance. He defied the saying of going where 'angels' fear to tread, or where those wiser than he would not want to venture. To attempt to define Baba, in this limited way, is clearly giving the wrong idea to readers, and influencing their minds in the wrong direction.

DOG ANALOGY

If a dog started talking about its master it cannot say that its master is a great dog. That is not the right way to describe the master. But the dog cannot say more than that due of his own limitation. This we all understand.

But in case of Narada, his intention was not even like that of the dog. The dog's pure intention was to glorify its master; but Narada's intention was to glorify himself. It is the same as when people give money to a temple with the sole motive of getting their name engraved into one of the stones in the main hall of the temple for being "a great benefactor."

BABA IS INCOMPARABLE

Baba can never be compared with other gurus who also used the title, bhagavan. That is the gist of why I felt intuitively that his book was faulty.

At that time there were several other gurus who were also being called 'Bhagavan': Like Bhagavan Sri Rajaneesh, Bhagavan Sai Baba, Bhagavan Meher Baba, Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi, Bhagavan Shankaracarya, Bhagavan Swami, Bhagavan Mahaviira, Bhagavan Muktatnanda, Bhagavan Bhala, and you name it everywhere Bhagavan.

IS THE BOOK GARBAGE??

Should we think that this book is totally garbage? No, the book was certainly a vehicle for Narada to describe his spiritual experiences while in jail on false charges, when he was suffering extreme frustration and desperation - which was natural.

It is true Baba did grace him with some special experiences to help sustain him and his sadhana. The changes in his mind and the renewal of his energy for enduring the injustices felt by Narada were not his own strength of mind. Rather they were the result of Baba's extraordinary compassion for His beloved disciple.

It is Baba's Greatness, not ours.

A CASE OF DEGENERATION

I do not think Narada gets this important distinction across in the book. Rather on this critical matter he lost the sincerity of a humble devotee. Instead he brags as if because of his greatness all this happened - not because of the greatness of Parama Purusa.

That mind-set is a degenerated state according to AM philosophy.

Any feelings and experiences we get in sadhana are exclusively the grace of Baba - not our greatness. That is why one does not have right to brag about their sadhana and devotional dreams. The moment you brag degeneration occurs. This all happens because one does not have feelings of surrender to Guru; instead their mind is busy thinking about their own greatness and not that of Parama Purusa.

MAKE A FAVOURABLE IMPRESSION ON READERS

By his writing, one person comment to me that readers could get the impression that Narada had these spiritual experiences because he is a very high spiritual being. Many people would think he was a saint and that they, being ordinary, could never get such experiences.

Verily this assessment is true. Many people who have read this book have said that Narada must be very high and special.  And I personally know that on the strength of having this book published in his name, Narada's reputation has been greatly enhanced in the eyes of many people in Ananda Marga, which gives him a lot of prestige. If this was the motive then it proves that the name and title is just bogus camouflage.

HIS GRACE, HIS LOVE, HIS MERCY

My objection here is that the emphasis and importance of writing a book about one's spiritual experiences must be on the Grace of Baba, Parama Purusa. Being His child, such a book is for my own encouragement and upliftment, and for facilitating my spiritual progress.

If one is to write at all about these things, that are very personal, one has to take care that the emphasis is on Baba's mercy, His Love for me, His sweet caring for my plight. That should be the core idea, not praising oneself.

JUST A CHEAT

If one does not do then they are a cheat. They are being duplicitous. When the goal is to write and spread one's own greatness, then planning to write a Baba's book on His magnificence is total hypocrisy because one is just doing this to earn money and garner praise. All done by exploiting sentiment of simple margiis.

WILL NARADA REALISE HIS MISTAKE

With any attempt to describe Parama Purusa Baba, one has to be conscious of the inherent problem.

Vyasa Deva felt after writing the Mahabharata and Bhagavad Giita, that he had committed a huge blunder for even attempting to describe Krsna and His powers and attibute. Vyasa Deva was remorseful for attempting to describe, portray, the indescribable - the Infinite ONE.

Maybe by the end of his life Narada will realise his mistake of undermining Baba's greatness by calling Him just bhagavan, and maybe Narada will repent his big mistake.

CONCLUDING WORDS

Every margii I am sure has had the realisation from their own Baba dreams or spiritual experiences, that such experiences are certainly 100% His causeless grace.

"I feel so uplifted and inspired and full of light and blissful energy, after such an occurrence and it was really nothing I did."

This is the feeling of any devotee.

Bhaktas feel everything is entirely Baba's divine krpa' and due to His grace their love for Him increases and one is blessed with the devotional longing to come closer to Him. On His loving lap He makes one feel that He is with them in all their difficulties and all their joys.

With this feeling, we feel we can handle anything so long as we feel His closeness, His presence in everything. By this way, with His infinite grace, our longing for Him is growing stronger.

Namaskar,
Ananda Mayii

== RE: LACK OF UNDERSTANDING ABOUT GURU ==

Namaskar,
I appreciate the initial letter (link appended below) on this important topic and want to add something more. So this is a follow-up about the book Bhagavan Anandamurti by Narada (Suva) and why it is inappropriate to address Baba as being merely a bhagavan.

Specifically I am writing for those with problems understanding Baba's teachings on this topic.

1. As was shown in the first letter, Parama Purusa is far higher than bhagavan. A bhagavan is anyone who has attained such attribution by practicing sadhana; whereas, Parama Purusa is that unique, singular Divine Entity. Yes Baba is bhagavan, but He is also so much more than that.

CANNOT INTRODUCE A RESPECTED PROFESSOR

AS A GRADUATE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL

2. If a respected professor with a Ph.D. in astro-physics who serves as the head of the physics department at a prestigious university is introduced to give a lecture, then the person making the introduction will not say, "Please welcome this person who is literate and has completed primary school up to class 5."

Yes the professor did indeed complete primary school, but he also successfully completed years and years of study and advance research and received degrees from the finest universities. So although it is not false to say that he completed primary school, at the same time it is totally inappropriate because that type of introduction does not at all reflect his true qualification and scholarship. Hence, it is entirely misleading to introduce the professor in this way.

CANNOT INTRODUCE PURODHA PRAMUKHA

AS MERELY BEING A TATTVIKA

2a. In the same way if respected Purodha Pramukha Dada is escorted onto the stage to address an audience, then the person introducing him will not say, "Here I present to you a two-legged, living being." Although it is correct that esteemed PP Dada is a living being with two legs, but to introduce him as such does not at all glorify his personae. Because PP Dada has much more status than just a living being. Thus to introduce him as such - overlooking the fact that he is Purodha Pramukha - is misleading, rude, and inappropriate.

CANNOT PRESENT PARAMA PURUSA BABA

AS MERELY BEING BHAGAVAN

3. Similarly, it is entirely misleading and inappropriate to introduce Baba as being merely a bhagavan when He is the God incarnate, Parama Purusa. When writing a book about Baba it should not be titled as Bhagavan Anandamurti nor should the aim of the book be to prove Baba as being bhagavan. Because bhagavan is a relatively common term attainable by an ordinary sadhaka whereas Baba being the Parama Purusa is so much more than just bhagavan.

Baba says, "The collective name of these six qualities [aeshvarya, viiryam, yasha, shrii, jina'nam, va'ra'gya] is bhaga, and one who has fully imbibed these six qualities is bhagaván. Any great person can be called bhagaván in this sense, but my Párthasárathi is not such a one. What is He? Krśńastu Bhagaván svayam – that is, “He is God incarnate.” He is Púrńa Brahma, Púrńa Bhagaván." (Namami Krsna Sundaram, Disc 24: Párthasárathi Krśńa and Pariprashna)

According to Baba's above teaching, any sadhaka who gets these occult powers can be called bhagavan. Hence Baba has respectfully given the titles Bhagavan Buddha, Bhagavan Shankaracarya, and Bhagavan Mahaviira etc. Over the ages, many have become bhagvan by their intense sadhana practice.

But we never classify these aforementioned sages as being Parama Purusa or Taraka Brahma or Purusottama. We do not say Parama Purusa Buddha, or Taraka Brahma Shankaracarya, or Purusottama Mahaviira etc. This is not done.

Thus we must acknowledge the clear-cut difference between bhagavan and Parama Purusa. To call sadhakas like Buddha and Shankaracarya as bhagavan is an honorable and respectable title as they gave much effort to attain that stance. But to call Parama Purusa Baba as bhagavan is not at all fitting as He is far beyond that ordinary stance of being bhagavan. Being the Parama Purusa He has an infinite number of attributions whereas a bhagavan possesses a mere six qualities. Thus there is no comparison.

So just as Baba guides us that Krsna is not merely a bhagavan but rather Parama Purusa incarnate, similarly we should think of and describe Baba in the same manner.

BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BHAGAVAN AND BHAGAVAN SVAYAM

4. Along these lines some are confused and think that bhagvan and bhagavan svayam are the same and interchangeable. When in truth these two terms are worlds apart.

Krśńastu Bhagaván svayam – that is, “He is God incarnate"

Bhagavan svayam refers to the Divine Entity Who has the inherent quality of being bhagavan as well as an infinite more number of qualities. Only Parama Purusa is bhagavan svayam. That is the specific point Baba has declared.

In stark contrast contrast, any ordinary human being can become a bhagavan by their sustained efforts in sadhana. They must get this status by doing pointed meditation.

Whereas, Parama Purusa need not do anything at all to be Bhagavan svayam. That is part and parcel of His Personae, along with so much more. By His mere existence He is bhagavan svayam.

So there should not be any confusion about this. None should mistakenly think that because Baba says that He is Bhagaván svayam that therefore He is a mere bhagavan. It is not like that.

Bhagavan svayam means Parama Purusa Himself whereas bhagavan merely refers to any sadhaka who has practiced sadhana and attained the six attributions or occult powers of bhagavan.

Bhagavan svayam only refers to that unique entity who is Parama Purusa Himself whereas bhagavan is a general title for any person who has gained those six qualities.

So the term Bhagavan svayam in no way denotes that He is merely a bhagavan. The term, Bhagavan svayam, means that He is Parama Purusa, i.e. that singular Divine Entity with whom no one can be compared.

If anyone is still confused about this they should do strong sadhana and then read Baba's discourses. Then the matter will be perfectly clear.

Here is yet another of Baba's teachings on this matter.

Baba says, "He cannot be compared with any other being, because He is incomparable, perfect in theory and also perfect in practice, the rśis of that time spoke of Him as ananyapáy [unparalleled]. They said of Him, Krśńastu Bhagaván svayaḿ [“Krśńa is Parama Puruśa Himself”]." (Discourses on Krsna and the Giita, Krśńa Unparalleled)

HOW TO RECTIFY THIS MATTER

Clear, practical steps should be taken to address the inherent error in writing a book called, Bhagavan Anandamurti, as Narada of Australia has done.

Basically those with that book should throw it away. Or at the very least the cover of the book should be completely torn off and in its place a note of warning should be attached stating:

"WARNING: The contents of this book are defective as Narada wrongly wrote this book to prove Baba as bhagavan, when in truth our Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji Baba is Parama Purusa and not just an ordinary bhagavan. Beware! This book should be tossed away or updated accordingly."

Failing that, failing to alert others about the inherent defects of this book, our kids, new margiis, relatives and more will get a negative message by reading this text.

We may leave this world after few hundred years but books remain on this earth much longer and this particular book will spread a defective, dogmatic, and faulty message. We should raise our voice that this book be permanently banned until it is reprinted with a proper title and all its contents updated. The actual text must reflect the true spirit of Baba's teachings.

Finally, some confused persons write such books just to show themselves as being "great intellectuals". But they do not know how much harm they are doing by spreading their dogmatic views. Narada has done such a blunder. He stole others' experiences and copied some of Baba's teachings and then hastily made this book. All done to remove his inferiority complex of being an illiterate man.

We all know there are so many constructive ways of eliminating one's psychic complex; but writing a dogmatic book about Guru is not one of them. Why should Narada try to overcome his complex by undermining Baba.

I have regard for Narada as a human being but on this ideological matter his dealing cannot be supported.

CONCLUSION

As disciples of Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, our main and sole intention in life is to glorify Him and spread His divine teachings. Thus no book about Baba should aim to prove Him as being a mere bhagavan. To do so is to undermine His lofty status as being the Parama Purusa. We should all be crystal-clear about this so we can best please and serve Him.

Lack of Understanding About Guru

Baba

== LACK OF UNDERSTANDING ABOUT GURU ==

Namaskar,
Due to a fundamental lack of understanding and devotional feeling, some have written books about our Sadguru Baba that fail to present Him in the proper light. Whether this happens intentionally or not, the problem is that it happens and therefore needs to be addressed.

To begin then we should pointedly remind ourselves of Guru's divine stature.

Baba says, "The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings – That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidyá (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamúrtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty." (Caryacarya, Part 2, Point #1a)

All sadhakas should have this basic understanding; due to a lack thereof, so many problems come - including lowly books.

SOME OF THE PROBLEMS

When someone writes a book that reduces Baba to a mere bhgavan, then we should
all take it seriously. Ands more recently, someone else has written a book, "The Jamalpur Years", and that falls to a baser standard.

Alertness is needed, because it is through such books that dogmas get propagated, whether that was purposely intended by the writer or not. That is what history teaches us.

TAKE THE CASE OF THE DOGMAS OF ISLAM

In Islam the propounders wrongly reached the conclusion that one male is equal to three females. In which case females do not have any religious or social rights; hence they are looked upon as being low and mean.

How did such a negative idea get established? First, it took birth in the mind of the one who wrote the Islamic scripture. And then to prove his theory hundreds of pages were written to convince people that this conclusion was proper and meaningful. And when certain people became suspicious of their negative theory, then those religious leaders gave the false justification that, 'This is the voice of the Almighty and everybody should
obey'.

Like this Islamic priests infused the dogma that 3 females are equal to one male.

So various types of dogmas come first in seed form and then they get amplified more and more. In that way people go on rattling off their dogmatic ideas in their talks, writings, and in all kinds of their expression.

Here the point is that all this can be avoided if correct things are written at the outset.

MORE ABOUT THE BHAGAVAN DOGMA

Unfortunately in our Marga certain writers have wrongly written about Baba. One concluded that Baba is just a bhagavan and wrote an entire book to this end, while more recently in his book brother Devashish proclaimed that Baba is Bengali.

Here we shall first review the point about Bhagavan. Why? Because we all know that it is wrongful, hurtful and dogmatic to state that Baba is Bengali. In so many places Baba has outrightly proclaimed that Parama Purusa belongs to all. None can claim then that Baba is of a particular land or community. This most understand.

So let's take a look at the claim that Baba is bhagavan.

As if Baba is like so many of those bhagavans. Because on the Indian soil alone, several hundred bhagavans have come and gone. A few such names I am writing here as example: Bhagavan Satya Sai Baba, Bhagavan Rajaniish, Bhagavan Shankaracarya, Bhagavan Buddha, Bhagavan Mahaviira, Bhagavan Devarahava' Baba, Bhagavan Swami Narayan of Gujurat, Bhagavan Datta'trya, Bhagavan Ram, Bhagavan Meher Baba, all told there are more than 100 or 200 of such bhagavans, including Bhagavan Satya Sai Baba & Bhagavan Rajaniish.

Indeed this earth has seen so many bhagavans. So the term bhagavan is not something unusual, rather it is common-place because there are hundreds or even thousands of bhagavans. Whereas the advent of Parama Purusa as Taraka Brahma is completely unique.

Yet in miscalculated fashion one margii designed an entire book trying to  prove Baba as being only a bhagavan, like Bhagavan Satya Sai Baba and Bhagavan Rajaniish etc. And to illustrate this the margii - Narada of SUVA - wrote several dozens of pages and gave all kinds of cock and bull stories. All done in order to "prove" that Baba is merely a bhagavan, like so many others bhagavans.

So this margii forgot the fact that bhagavan is not a very high characteristic. Being Parama Purusa is far above. If he had remember this fact then he would have spared himself the trouble of writing a book. Likewise, if Devashish could keep the totality of Baba's personae in mind, brother Devashish would not have wrongly labeled Baba as being a Bengali (p. 34) in his book.

MANY BHAGAVANS ARE TOTALLY FAKE

Back to the point of bhagavan, everyone should be aware that most bhagavans are fake. And second, anyone person who does sadhana can become a  bhagavan. For instance Shankaracarya and Buddha did like this. They had to  do sadhana and undergo all sorts of penance in order to achieve their  limited status of bhagavan.

PARAMA PURUSA IS FAR, FAR ABOVE

In contrast Parama Purusa is Parama Purusa. He does not need to do any sadhana. By His own will He takes human form to liberate others. He Himself is beyond all the bondages. So for Him there is not need of any sadhana. He does not need to do anything in this regard.

Baba says, "He needs no sa'dhana', but just to set an example to others, He performs sa'dhana' with the masses." (AV-33)

So the infinite glory of Parama Purusa towers far above the comparatively lowly position of bhagavan. But a few people, including this mixed-up margii, remain terribly confused about this.

So Baba has taken it upon Himself to remove the confusion from the public mind that Lord Krsna and Lord Shiva are not bhagavan like bhagavan Rajaniish etc. Instead Lord Krsna and Lord Shiva are something far higher than that.

BABA DESCRIBES BHAGAVAN

AND THAT IS LESS THAN TARAKA BRAHMA

To achieve this, Baba first describes in step by step manner the meaning of bhagavan. That He did in the discourse titled: Pa'rthasa'rthi Krs'n'a and Pariprashna. In that discourse Baba clearly describes that bhaga means the combination of six attributions: aeshvarya, viirya, yasha, shrii, jina'nam, and vaera'gya.

So first Baba illustrates what it means by the term bhagavan. And then Baba gives an example with respect to the life of Lord Krsna. Baba cites the occasion whereby Lord Krsna proclaims to one and all that, 'I will liberate you from all sins. You have no cause to worry'.

Thus here Baba is revealing the fact that such type of divine guarantee cannot be given by some ordinary being like a bhagavan. Such a proclamation guaranteeing the liberation of one's sins can only be given by Parama Purusa Himself. So Baba concludes that Lord Krsna is not just a bhagavan but something far higher; He is Taraka Brahma.

And in the final section of the discourse, Baba concludes:

Tula' va' upama' Krs'n'asya na'sti...

Meaning: There is no comparison of Lord Krsna. He can only be compared with Himself.

BABA IS DESCRIBING HIMSELF IN NAMAMI KRSNA SUNDARAM ETC

All margiis also know that Baba is talking about Himself in these discourses of the Nama'mi Krs'n'a Sundaram book. The greatness Baba is illustrating about Lord Krsna, that is actually His (Baba's) own greatness. So in that book Baba is expressing indirectly about Himself to his devotees. Just like in Prabhat Sam'giita Baba is indirectly guiding us how we can express our devotional longing for Him.

Likewise when He taught Guru Puja then this same type of approach was done. He taught devotees how to perform Guru Puja-- when we all know that Guru Puja is being done to Him. So He was revealing the technique to us in indirect fashion.

And a similar approach was taken when He taught the devotional concept that, 'Parama Purusa is always with you'. In that case Baba is indirectly talking about Himself. I.e. that He is with everyone, sitting inside their mind and in the heart.

NOT JUST BHAGAVAN

So the conclusion is that when Baba has written that there cannot be any comparison of Lord Krsna then the same is the case with Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji also. Baba also is beyond comparison. Then why should we undermine His glorious status by comparing Him and saying that He is just a bhagavan. As if He is just like all those other bhagavans such as Bhagavan Rajaniish Bhagavan, Bhagavan Datta'trya, Bhagavan Ram, Bhagavan Satya Sai Baba, etc, etc, etc.

WHY THEY WRITE LIKE THIS

The natural question that arises is why do people like Narada and Devashish write like this about their own Guru. Most often it seems that people write Baba stories and books with full sincerity, but because of their lack of understanding and devotional feeling, they do the opposite of what they want to accomplish. Instead of glorifying Baba the opposite occurs.

Why? Some writers are cowards and do not have the courage to tell the truth while others are crude and cannot comprehend that Baba is Parama Purusa. Those with no courage think that public will not appreciate Baba as Parama Purusa so "I should not write this."

You are welcome to think to which category Narada and Devashish belong.

BABA'S BLESSING

Some try to compare & undermine Him and thus  invite their destruction. That is why Baba has graciously warned us ahead of time not to do such things. Rather as His disciples we are to propagate His divine stature and greatness.

Baba says, "The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings - That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidya (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamurtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty." (CC II p.1)

Namaskar,
Satiish

Note 1: PARAMA PURUAS IS MUCH HIGHER

Here below Baba is explicitly proving how Parama Purusa is far more than just a bhagavan. The following is the incredible scene from the Mahabharata when Lord Krsna uses His unique abilities as Parama Purusa to give victory to His devotees. And Baba Himself emphatically states that no type of bhagavan has the capability to do such things.

Baba says, "Krs'n'a' had covered the sun with His Sudarshana Cakra [His special discus]. Now you can imagine that it was impossible to cover the sun with a discus. Is it possible to cover the sun with a dinner plate? When you observe a dinner plate close up it seems to be about this large. But if you could see the sun from close up, how big it would appear! If the dinner plate could somehow be placed near the sun, it would be a mere
speck. No, the discus could never cover the sun! Though the devotees claim that it did, I take it as a mere story. Then question arises as to how the sun was covered. The answer is that the Lord Krs'n'a willed it so. He had mastery over Praka'mya Siddhi, one of the eight occult powers. He willed the sun to be covered by clouds and so it happened. The sun was covered by clouds and people thought that the sun had gone down. So Arjuna was able to keep his promise and kill Jayadratha."

Here below is the exact section where Baba says only Parama Purusa can do such great works-- not bhagavan.

Baba says, "To perform such a miraculous feat by going against the natural order cannot be accomplished by even a first grade Bhagava'n, not to speak of a second or third grade one. Only Parama Purus'a can do this." (NKS, '97 Edn, p. 208)

Then Baba directly adds how there are numerous examples whereby Parama Purusa shows Himself to be far more than just a bhagavan:

Baba says, "This is only one story. Dozens of similar stories can be found." (NKS, '97 Edn , p. 208)

Note 2: NOT JUST BHAGAVAN

Here Baba is announcing the fact that Parama Purusa is not just a bhagavan. Because only the singular entity Parama Purusa can save people from their sins. No bhagavan can do that. Please read below. Baba says about Lord Krsna:

"Those accepting Me as their final refuge, I will free from the bondage of sin. Their future is certainly glorious. No one need worry about their past. It is senseless to worry about atonement for past misdeeds...."

"Only Parama Purus'a can assure jiivas so unequivocally. This goes to show beyond any shadow of a doubt that He is not bhagava'na, but the veritable manifestation of divinity. He cannot be compared to either khan'da'vata'ra, am'sha'vata'ra or kala'vata'ra. They may be bhagava'na due to their possession of the six qualities, but none among them is the Supreme Entity. "I will forgive your sins. I will free you from all sins, I will take away
your sins." No one but Krs'n'a, the Supreme Entity, has the right to say  this. No one has ever said this in the past, nor will anyone say it in the future. If anyone claims this, it would be only the highest audacity on his or her part. But my Krs'n'a has proclaimed it loudly and openly: Aham' tva'm' sarvapa'pebhyo moks'ayis'ya'mi ma'shucah -- "I will liberate you from all sins. You have no cause to worry."

"After all this can anyone claim that Krs'n'a has any parallel? No, no one can claim this. All will have to fold their hands and say unto Him,"

Tula' va' upama' Krs'n'asya na'sti;

[Krs'n'a has no parallel or equal. Krs'n'a is Parama Purus'a Himself.]

(Source: Nama'mi Krs'n'a Sundaram, '97 Edn, p. 211)

Note 3: HE IS BEYOND COMPARISON

Here it should be understood that Baba is Parama Purusa; He is the Taraka Brahma. His infinite Personality is infinite and beyond comparison. So why should one belittle Him by labeling Him as being just a bhagavan. When in clear-cut language Baba Himself explains that His qualities go far beyond that of only bhagavan. Being the Parama Parama of course He possesses those few attributes of the limited stance of bhagavan, but He also has much more than that. So no one can say that He is just a bhagavan.

Indeed the limited nature of the term bhagavan is insufficient to encapsulate all of Baba's greatness. It falls far short of the mark. The bhagavan term utterly fails to represent Baba. In the same way Lord Krsna is not just a flute player or musician, His Personality is much more than that. So who can say that Lord Krsna is just one simple flute player-- that is an injustice to the inherent greatness of Lord Krsna. Likewise no one can say that Baba is just a simple bhagavan because as the Parama Purusa incarnate Baba's infinite qualities far surpass the narrow scope of bhagavan.

Note 4: TARAKA BRHAMA IS SUPREME

Here Baba is further revealing the uniqueness of Tarak Brahma and that He is greater than all those other lesser entities like bhagavan.

Baba says, "A Maha'kaola is one who makes others kaola by his infallible spiritual guidance. But Ta'raka Brahma is a different Entity, a unique Entity for He is the spiritual preceptor, social preceptor, Kaola, and Maha'kaola, all in one. He is also something more: He acts as a compass in every stratum of society." (NKS, '97 Edn, p.50)

Note 5 : ABOUT THE MISGUIDED BOOKS

The misguided book titled "Bhagavan Anandamurti" written by Narada (SUVA) was done with the negative goal of falsely proving Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji as merely a bhagavan. But Baba is the Parama Purusa; He is far beyond the limited definition of bhagavan.

Thus Narada's book is going against Baba-- in which case Narada's book needs to be set aside - never to be seen again. Because page after page its full conclusion is that Baba is just a bhagavan like Bhagavan Rajaniish.

So Narada's entire unholy premise runs contrary to the teachings of AM. From its very title to its concluding line, his book is way off the mark-- completely devoid of any ideological value, rather harmful.

Note 6: MAHA'PAP (TERRIBLE SIN)

Overall then Narada's approach is no different than the terrible sin (Maha'pa'p) which those idol worshippers commit. Because those sinful  idol worshippers engage in the negative act of limiting Parama Purusa to a piece of stone or rock.

In similar fashion the misguided strategy of both Narada's entire book and at least part of Devashish's book is to bind Parama Purusa to something limited. Of course Baba sternly warns us never to commit such misdeeds (Maha'papa / worst type of sin). (Refer Caryacarya II, p. 5, point 18).

Note 7: SPREAD HIS GLORY

In contrast, by propagating the true glory of Parama Purusa and by following His teachings then certainly we will be able to establish dharma on this dusty earth in a very short time. About this Baba has assured us of victory.

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"A'lora rathe a'sabe tumi a'ja ja'ni nishcaya..." (PS #978)

Purport:

Baba, I know that You will certainly come today riding the chariot of effulgence and make my life successful. You will remove all the darkness of ignorance and avidya maya, and make me fearless.

Baba, day and night, I waited for You with a garland in hand. Times passed like this. At last, the auspicious hour has arrived; all the doubts have been removed. I see that You have come - You are here.

Baba, in yearning for You, I have been ensconced in Your dhyana - in the resonance of Your tune [1] and insurmountable effulgence [2], ages after ages - counting the prahara [3] and tithis [4] for Your arrival.

Baba today You have come; I received Your causeless grace. O' my Lord, I surrender everything at Your lotus feet. Please accept me...

Notes For Prabhat Samgiita #978:

[1] Resonance of Your Tune: This is a metaphor; When the sadhaka always hears the repetition of their ista mantra mentally, then that is a very grand state. At that point, one's mantra japa continues effortlessly. That is what the sadhaka is experiencing in this song.

[2] Insurmountable Effulgence: Initially when one tries to do dhyana then the image of Guru may not come. Guru's image comes when the mind reaches a higher stage. And finally when dhyana becomes deeper and more intense, then one is ensconced in Him. At that point the image becomes effulgence. In this deeply devotional state, there is no awareness of one's own existence. That is what Baba is describing in the third stanza of
this song.

[3] Prahara: A measurement of time equal to 3 hours.

[4] Tithis: One day in the moon calendar. In the moon calendar, each month is comprised of 28 days.

Our Family

Baba says, "No entity in this universe exists individually. Ours is a universal family. Each and every entity -- living and non-living, moving and non-moving -- helps others in maintaining not only their equilibrium, but also the equipoise of the entire universe, not only of this small planet Earth.
We are to move together with all...

"Our family is universal, our abode is also universal. Hararme...

This universe is our homeland." (SS-18, p. 40-41)
