== RE: BABA'S GUIDELINE: CELEBRATION OF ANANDA PURNIMA ==

~ Part 3 ~

(Note: This is the third letter of this series. Links to the first two letters are appended below. - AM Universal Moderators)

Namaskar,
This year Ananda Purnima is on Saturday, 25 May. Here are more of Guru's guidelines for how to celebrate this grand event - our most important festival.

As we know, Ananda Marga is the path of bliss. The systematic yogic lifestyle and the 360 degree spiritual-cum-social outlook leads the entire human family to march ahead in unison. Part and parcel of this collective movement is our participation in social functions because it is by these blissful gatherings like Ananda Purnima that we are able to glorify Baba, renew ourselves, and attract more people on the collective train of dharma – generating greater momentum to move ahead.

SOCIAL FUNCTIONS:

A GREAT UNIFYING FORCE

In His discourse "Social Psychology" Baba tells the following in the section on collective social functions.

"Many of the ills of society develop because people do not care to know other members of society. This may not only mean ignorance of the condition and difficulties of others, but also leads to intolerance and a lack of interest in the affairs of the other members of society. Common social functions bring different members of society together and are therefore a great unifying force. By performing certain functions collectively, all the members are engaged in doing the same thing for some time, and this brings about a feeling of unity and interest in others."
"In Ananda Marga such common social functions are especially encouraged. Milita snána [collective bathing] and dharmacakra [collective meditation] provide grounds for common social functions in the physical, psychic and spiritual fields. Common participation in such functions is a very great unifying force. The participants in such functions will have no intolerance for each other, and will instead get more united. Such functions are, therefore, a great unifying force." (1)

Verily social functions like the upcoming Ananda Purnima celebrations give society a tremendous boost to advance: Such programs help inspire people to grow together. Plus social functions generate more enthusiasm and propulsion on the collective pathway – with the result being that all types of good things suddenly become possible.

By such functions humans can solve various problems. Now the need of the day is to build a single human society. Naturally, social functions help; by this way, various people come together in a social and spiritual way, and in that process become far more accepting of one another. Social functions generate family-feeling, i.e. "a feeling of unity and interest in others."

Here below are more of Baba's teachings and guidelines on the celebration of Ananda Purnima and how social functions positively affect our Ananda Marga.

SOCIAL FUNCTIONS BASED IN SPIRITUALITY

Not only do Ananda Marga social functions give a huge injection of inspiration, but these grand gatherings – which Baba has designed – goad and guide everyone deeper into the spiritual realm. This in turn brings permanent peace. So although the name is a social function, but its base is spirituality.

In direct contrast, in the general society social parties end up being nothing but degenerative events that promote and satisfy animalistic desires & carnal pleasures. Just people are rushing madly after worldly pleasures and transient pursuits.

So a very unique aspect of our social functions and festivals - like Ananda Purnima - is that they goad the mind toward the Supreme Self - that apexed point of human realization.

INCORPORATING FOOD INTO THE CELEBRATION

Here are more guidelines on this grand celebration.

High quality meals should be made available to any and all who attend. The most practical and rational way to do this is for margiis to contribute to this program according to their liking and means.

Basically, donations should be requested from all the margiis – on a sliding scale. According to their capacity they can contribute. So there should not be a certain fixed fee for every margii. Rather, donations should be based on one’s financial condition. Those with more money can offer larger donations and those with financial constraints can give smaller amounts.

So everyone should contribute something and if a person has the feeling and ability to give a bigger financial donation, that is welcomed. Along these lines, it is okay to let wealthier margiis give more, if they wish.

However, the amount donated should not be revealed publicly. That would be insensitive and humiliating for those donating smaller amounts. One idea is to set-up a special, hidden donation box; then people can offer even the smallest of donations and still feel comfortable. May we always remember that it is the feeling behind the giving that is most important, not the amount.

By and large though, money should not hinder anyone’s participation. Everyone should be encouraged to participate and bring their entire family, as well as their close friends. That will make for a joyous celebration and it will give us the opportunity to create new margiis.

All along, we have to find the right balance. That is why there should be a sliding scale, with no stated minimum amount. The main idea is that the food at programs like Ananda Purnima should be accessible to all. With a progressive donation arrangement that aim is entirely possible.

Actually what we have seen here in India is that often in Delhi Sector someone steps forward with great enthusiasm to cover the cost of the entire program. But this should only be accepted when the person has sincere feeling for Baba and the overall spirit of the celebration. If offered out of pomp or show, then such monies should be politely rejected.

"If a person wants to feed you out of genuine intimacy, you should take that food happily, even if it is just grains and vegetables. But if someone invites you only to make a show to people, never accept his/her food." (2)

Finally, special food should be made available for all attendees. There will be one kitchen: The same type of food for all, which is of top quality, yet very simple and sentient.

SEE THAT ALL JOIN IN THE FESTIVAL OF ANANDA PURNIMA:

COLLECTIVE MEAL IS IMPORTANT

"Humans are social beings. So every human being likes utsava. It is the desire of all that they will rejoice unitedly. In Europe Puritanism failed in the end, only because the Puritans failed to care for the desires of the general public. They preached their theory only to a handful of devotees of knowledge."
"Ananda Marga is for the general public. So, considering the necessity of the general mass, proper importance has to be given to the Utsava in social life. Enthusiasm in a utsava is the greatest in the children, in the tender aged boys, in the youths and last of all in grown ups. In the programmes of a Utsava, therefore, you shall think for the children first. Their sweet stammering noises ensure the success of the Utsava. But whatever arrangements you may make for the children, the youngsters, youths, or for the grown-ups, make that there is no dearth of discipline even to the minutest extent anywhere. Let there be complete harmony..."
"A grown up man does not like that others should call him grown up. An old man does not like that others should tell him old. Do you know, why they do not like to be said so? The adults or the aged are nearing death. This means that one is drawing nearer death as one grow up and this is why one does not like to be told grown up or old."
"Taking this for granted regarding human psychology, you shall arrange for two or three items in the programme for the old to enjoy, so that they may think at least for a short time that they are not old, they have sufficient energy still left in them."
"Take pains to see that all join in the Utsava. Give full opportunity to all the artists to make a display of their talents in art. Remember that taking food together is a special feature in a Utsava, without which half of the pleasure of a Utsava is marred." (3)

THE MEANING OF UTSAVA:

FRESH INSPIRATION TO LIVE

“People often feel bored with their humdrum lives, with their mechanical routines; thus a fresh start must be created through festivals or utsava. The root verb su means “to be reborn.” Su plus -al suffix = sava. The substance which produces new vigour in the body is called a’shava, or wine. Similarly ut + su + al = utsava, which means “festival.” “Ut” means “towards up” and “sava” means “life” ; so utsava means “an occasion which gives human beings fresh inspiration to live a new life.” (4)

"I HOPE THAT YOU WILL MAKE SUCH ARRANGEMENTS" - BABA

“When people become tired and uninspired, when they can no longer look towards the future with hope, when their colourful dreams are shattered, at that time the sweetness of a festival brings new joy and vigour in life. Thus in individual and collective life, the importance of festivals is tremendous. One should always remember that festivals should be such that all can take part in them without any ostentatious display of wealth, and with an upsurge of their life force. And these festivals should be conducted in such a way that people take part in them from a spontaneous inner urge. I hope that you will make such arrangements so that all are attracted towards your festivals which will be more and more charming – and this will bring about your collective welfare.” (5)

MUST NOT USE FIRECRACKERS

Many units have stopped using firecrackers during our Ananda Marga festival celebrations. Baba's expressed guideline is that firecrackers are a waste of money, create huge pollution, and invite serious injuries. Furthermore firecrackers are a carcinogen. Thus firecrackers are dangerous and wasteful on many levels. They should not be used at our programs. Instead the funds used for purchasing firecrackers should be directed toward enhancing our narayan seva & relief work that very day. More about this is noted below.

BABA’S GUIDELINE AND CONCERN FOR ALL

“Ensure that those who enjoy the celebrations also get thereby healthy opportunities for their physical growth, mental development, and spiritual progress.” (6)

"The humans of today are possessed of spirited intellect and accomplished wisdom. They are keen to advance with rapid step shattering the shackles of dogmas. They will no longer be entrapped by the illusion of opportunism. The rays of the crimson dawn of a new humanity on the eastern horizon have started weaving textures of colours on their eyelids and in the subtle recesses of their minds. As for those who have been dreaming of keeping humanity imprisoned by dogmas, their days are numbered; their blissful dreams are being shattered to pieces. I call upon all enlightened people and say: “Go ahead with courage. The humanity has been awaiting you. Establish it in the excellence and grandeur of glory." (Ananda Vanii #53)

"Knowing oneself is the real knowledge; serving all with the ideation of Náráyańa, the real action, and the vow to please Parama Puruśa the real devotion." (Ananda Vanii #25)

Baba's Guideline: Celebration of Ananda Purnima

Baba

== BABA'S GUIDELINE: CELEBRATION OF ANANDA PURNIMA ==

~ Part 1 ~

Namaskar,
The auspicious and grand occasion of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ is coming soon.

The official day is Saturday, May 25 – though in many units celebrations start before then since A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ is the most significant social function in our Marga.

WE ALL KNOW...

Certainly, we all know that the holy occasion of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ signifies the day of advent of Taraka Brahma as Mahasambhuti Baba. And that on this wonderful and blissful occasion there is a morning and evening dharmacakra, collective bath, all-round merrymaking, and a sentient feast etc.

Yet there are also other special components to the celebration of Ananda Pu’rn’ima which Baba has outlined. Some of these are listed and described below and other margiis and WT’s are kindly requested to contribute other plans and programs which they know about that are associated with the celebration Ananda Purnima .

INNER MEANING

Here first though is one of the special ideations linked to the holy festival of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’.

A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ signifies the advent of Mahasambhuti who has come to wipe away all the tears and fog from this dusty earth and infuse within all a sense of peace, hope, tranquility and bliss. He has graciously come to establish the lost humanity in divinity – elevating everyone’s standard, and paving the way for the reign of dharma.

WAYS TO CELEBRATE THIS DAY

Here below are a few of Baba’s many recommendations and guidelines for how to make the occasion of Ananda Purnima an even more memorable, joyful, and charming gathering for one and all.

(A) On the grand festival time of Ananda Purnima, all types of age groups should have their own programs that will be appealing to them. Certainly there will be one central place for the entire gathering, yet at the same time specialised plans and programs for the various age divisions should be organised.

For the younger children there should be games and sports and / or a drama production etc.

For adolescents & teenagers there should be competitions in the various realms from kaoshikii and tandava to music, art, and literature. And their day should also include sporting events etc.

And likewise for adults, there should be a range of activities and programs from the devotional singing of kiirtan to service projects, plus spiritual talks, dance competitions, and general socialising.

(B) In addition, on Ananda Purnima the head of household can utilise this as the time to arrange annual new clothes for all family members. Plus there should be toys for the children and the sharing of sweet treats. By this way one and all will know that something great is happening and that Ananda Purnima is a grand event.

(C) Ananda Purnima can also be made special by offering moderate gifts and presents or cards etc to those around you as a showing of love and affection.

(D) And like that many, many more points and suggestions are there in relation with the grand and blissful celebrations of Ananda Purnima.

SPIRIT OF OUR AM SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

The magnificent characteristic of all our Ananda Marga social gatherings is that they welcome one and all irrespective of age, colour, race, profession, educational standard, etc, all types from all places are welcome. Indeed everyone comes together for sadhana, games, a feast, and other celebratory activities and by this way one social flow is formed thus making way for a healthy, unified human society.

THE KEY POINT

In this way social functions and festivals are a time for us all to move together in His divine flow, regardless of one’s standard or status - where one and all gather round in the spirit of unity. And top of all our special duty as devotees is to propagate the greatness and grandeur of Sadguru Baba. In a phrase we can say that this is the key point behind the auspicious occasion of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’: To highlight Baba’s greatness.

“The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings— That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidya (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamurtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty.” (1)

Here following are some of Baba's special guidelines for our collective social functions and festivals like Ananda Purnima.

CARYACARYA GUIDELINES ON ANANDA PURNIMA

"Ánanda Púrńimá: Collective bath with snána mantra, twice collective Iishvara Prańidhána and Varńárghyadána, collective noon and night meals, merry celebrations, spiritual conferences, annual meetings of workers, children’s sports, and procession with táńd́ava dance. (2)

BRING NEW JOY AND VIGOUR

“When people become tired and uninspired, when they can no longer look towards the future with hope, when their colourful dreams are shattered, at that time the sweetness of a festival brings new joy and vigour in life. Thus in individual and collective life, the importance of festivals is tremendous. One should always remember that festivals should be such that all can take part in them without any ostentatious display of wealth, and with an upsurge of their life force. And these festivals should be conducted in such a way that people take part in them from a spontaneous inner urge. I hope that you will make such arrangements so that all are attracted towards your festivals which will be more and more charming – and this will bring about your collective welfare.” (3)

A GREAT UNIFYING FORCE

"Collective social functions: Many of the ills of society develop because people do not care to know other members of society. BABA'S INNER WISH

“That which renews human existence and makes it full to the brim and overflowing with the joy of living is termed a festival...Inspire all people to live with a new spirit like true human beings. Let it inspire them with the fact that all humanity is an indivisible entity. On this auspicious day this is my inner wish.” (6)

== HAPPY A'NANDA PU'RNIMA'!!==

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Namaskar to all on this auspicious and blissful occasion of Ananda Purnima 2012!

This year A'nanda Pu'rnima' is to be observed Sunday May 6 - Wishing you a very happy and blissful day of devotional celebrations & merriment!!

As we know, Baba is the Polestar of our lives: He is our inspiration, He is our sustenance, and He is our Goal.

This festival day of A'nanda Pu'rnima' marks Baba's divine advent onto this earth.

This entire creation is a manifestation of Parama Purusa. Everyone and everything is part of our universal family. By Baba's grace we should always keep this sweet realisation ever alive in our heart and mind.

The final fulfillment comes when the sadhaka reaches that highest goal and feels that Baba - the Divine Entity - expresses Himself through each and everything. All are none other than the expression of the Supreme.

Wishing you, and all in your area, blissful A'nanda Pu'rnima' celebrations.

Here is one of Baba's original A'nanda Va'niis that we wish to share with you - this is the one we are using in our unit.

Baba says, "Those who can dedicate their all to the thought of the Great and the inspiration of the Supreme are verily the most heroic. Indeed, they are the virtuous, and they alone are capable of leading human history from darkness to light."  (Ananda Vanii #22)

Namaskar,

== A’NANDA PU’RN’IMA’ CELEBRATIONS: BABA’S GUIDELINES ==

~ Part 4 ~

Note: This series of letters, “A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ Celebrations: Baba’s Guidelines”, has four parts. Each part, presented by a different margii, offers complementary ways and descriptions for celebrating Ananda Purnima. Together, these letters paint a picture for how to commemorate this grand festival. We wholeheartedly welcome your suggestions as well. Please read part 4 below. – AM-GLOBAL Moderators

Namaskar,

Baba’s holy advent is such a tremendous event that there is no aspect of life that is not purified and made pristine by His holy arrival. From the flowers to the clouds, from the schools to the hospitals, from the smiles to the tears of joy, and from the kiirtan to the meditation, each and every aspect of creation is revolutionized by His august presence.

In that wholesome spirit, our Ananda Purnima celebrations should be of an equal breadth, size, and stature. Every sphere of life should be touched by our Ananda Purnima ceremonies and festivities.

Here below are further suggestions compiled from various margiis for how we can best maximize the celebration of the glorious day of Ananda Purnima.

THE MAKING OF AN EXHIBITION

Around the globe, and perhaps in our larger units especially, various exhibitions can be created that encapsulate a wide sampling of Baba’s teachings and programs. In this way the theoretical side of AM ideology and
its practical expression can be highlighted. Toward this end, there could be a good news presentation of the wide array of AM service projects and socially uplifting programs; plus via story, song, dance and drama there could be a joyous performance highlight the history and development of Ananda Marga.

In addition, there could be the special showing of Baba’s video and other renewing activities like a tree planting, musical performance, and other cultural activities.

ORGANISING AN ANANDA MELA

A grand Ananda Mela can also be formed in selected places whereby local sentient shops are invited and where cultural programs, sports and festivities, art, music, a children’s theatre and poetry competitions are
displayed. Such a gathering could include non-margiis and margiis alike. That will build community relations and involve everyone. It would bring people together in a sweet way and the environment could be nicely maintained by having all the events monitored by margiis. Yet at the same time allow non-margiis to participate fully and be active up to certain levels.

Verily, this is an occasion for one and all and could include multi-day or even multi-week camps for honouring and celebrating this most auspicious event of Ananda Purnima

Overall, such types of programs would draw in all the various sections of society and could occur over a month-long period, perhaps 2-weeks before through 2-weeks after Ananda Purnima - as some do in India with the Ram Liila*. Our Ananda Purnima should take on that type of significance and celebration, focused totally on Baba.

VARIOUS TYPES OF KIIRTAN PROGRAMS AND PRASAD

In our various units, across all the sectors, there will be grand kiirtan programs. Certainly, already numerous akhanda kiirtan programs are being held; and, in addition, nagar kiirtan can also be done in our villages, towns, and cities.

As you may know, nagar kiirtan, the singing and dancing of Baba Nam Kevalam through all the streets & parks etc, should be done just before sunrise – not during the full-day sun. The style of kiirtan should be soothing, not ear-piercing. As far as possible, this should be done with loudspeakers bearing in mind the local customs and legal code. What is acceptable in India, however, may not be allowed elsewhere. The overall spirit is for a maximum number of people to hear the holy siddha mantra: Baba Nam Kevalam.

The sound should be natural with the overall spirit being to please Baba by singing and sharing this divine chant with others. Baba guides us that by this way there will be tremendous benefit.

After each and every kiirtan program, there should be special prasad. Because Ananda Purnima is for everyone. Some are involved deeply in spiritual sadhana while some, such as the children, are interested in special treats like prasad. By this way there will be something for everyone. All will think of it as a delightful and joyous celebration.

OVERVIEW OF FESTIVITIES

The above programs will serve as a great complement to the numerous other festive ways of celebrating the great occasion of Ananda Purnima that were outlined in prior letters of this series. Some of those activities include: Poetry readings, debates, prize distribution, collective bath**, collective food, narayan seva, clothing distribution, collective sadhana, medical camps, food distribution in nursing and convalescent homes, collective social service, singing and dancing of Prabhat Samgiita, the exchange of gifts, sports and games, display of Baba’s diorama, artful presentation of Baba’s liila, cartoons and paintings of how Baba has graced bhaktas, theatrical depictions of how negative forces could not diminish the glory of Baba and Ananda Marga and so many more ways.

Indeed this is a time with everyone – young and old, wealthy and poor, literate and illiterate, etc – can come together and rejoice in the sweet celebrations of Baba’s divine advent. The festival of Ananda Purnima should be given utmost importance as it is the most festive day of the year.

ALL WILL REMEMBER….

The grand result being that all will fondly remember and gather round this auspicious occasion. Already many units may be doing like this.

We should always keep in mind that everyone’s spiritual standard is not the same. Not all members of the society have very high devotion. But if everyone is celebrating together via by the various festivities etc then they will fondly remember Ananda Purnima. That will enhance unity. And it will draw people near.

BABA’S BLESSING

Baba says, “This is a day of rejoicing, and amidst this rejoicing people will have to determine ways of improving their individual and collective life, developing their resources in all the strata of life for their future progress.” (A Few Problems Solved – 5)

Namaskar,

Tanmay Deva

* Ram Liila: The Ram Liila is an annual theatre drama depicting the glory and greatness of Ram staged in the evening for several weeks. This theatre drama highlights the life of Ram for the public to see, learn and enjoy.

In a similar manner, we should produce a theatre reenactment of all the great events in Baba's life. This should include His younger years, the formation of Ananda Marga, the spread of devotion, the jail period, Emergency, how the margiis faced so many problems, how the communists were destroyed, the vast array of AM service projects, spiritual life, and more. All the good and bad times should be depicted for everyone to know.

** Collective Bath: In AM, collective bath does not mean that males and females will bathe together. It is separated by gender, unlike in western countries.

Namaskar,
Ananda Marga is the path of bliss. The systematic yogic lifestyle and the 360 degree spiritual cum social outlook leads the entire human family to march ahead in unison. Part and parcel of this collective movement is our participation in social functions because it is by these blissful gatherings like Ananda Purnima that we are able to glorify Baba, renew ourselves, and attract more people on the collective train of dharma– generating greater momentum to move ahead.

In His discourse "Social Psychology" Baba tells the following in the section on collective social functions.

Baba says, "Many of the ills of society develop because people do not care to know other members of society. This may not only mean ignorance of the condition and difficulties of others, but also leads to intolerance and a lack of interest in the affairs of the other members of society. Common social functions bring different members of society together and are therefore a great unifying force. Such functions are, therefore, a great unifying force." (A Few Problems Solved - 7, Social Psychology)

Therefore social functions like the upcoming Ananda Purnima celebrations give society a tremendous turbo boost to advance: Such programs help inspire people to grow together. Plus social functions generate more enthusiasm and propulsion on the collective pathway – with the result being that all types of good things suddenly become possible.

By such functions humans can solve various problems. Now the need of the day is to build a single human society. Naturally social functions help; by this way various people come together to enjoy in social and spiritual way.

Here below are additional views on the celebration of Ananda Purnima and how social functions positively affect our Marga. By Baba’s grace others will also continue to express their insights on this topic.

By cooperative human interaction society moves ahead in a dynamic way.

SOCIAL FUNCTIONS BASED IN SPIRITUALITY

Yet not only do AM social functions give a huge injection of inspiration, but these grand gatherings – which Baba has designed – goad and guide everyone deeper into the spiritual realm. This in turn brings permanent peace. So although the name is a social function but its base is spirituality.

In direct contrast in the crude society social parties end up being nothing but degenerative events that promote and satisfy animalistic desires & carnal pleasures. Just people are rushing madly after worldly and transient things.

INCORPORATING FOOD INTO THE CELEBRATION

Here are a few more ideas that came from several margiis.

Baba says, "If a person wants to feed you out of genuine intimacy, you should take that food happily, even if it is just grains and vegetables. But if someone invites you only to make a show to people, never accept his/her food." (Caryacarya-2, Society, Pt #37)

Finally, special food should be made available for all attendees. There will be one kitchen: The same type of food for all, which is of top quality, yet very simple and sentient.

REFLECTIONS

So these are a few of the ways and thoughts about how this Ananda Purnima can be celebrated. And these things are all per Baba’s distinct teachings.

BABA’S GUIDELINE AND BLESSING

Here following is Baba’s blessing as we enter into the weekend of Ananda Purnima.

Baba says, “Ensure that those who enjoy the celebrations also get thereby healthy opportunities for their physical growth, mental development, and spiritual progress.” (Caryacarya – 1, p.42)

Namaskar,
Harideva

Note 1: THE MEANING OF UTSAVA

Baba says, “People often feel bored with their humdrum lives, with their mechanical routines; thus a fresh start must be created through festivals or utsava. The root verb su means “to be reborn.” Su plus -al suffix = sava. The substance which produces new vigour in the body is called a’shava, or wine. Similarly ut + su + al = utsava, which means “festival.” “Ut” means “towards up” and “sava” means “life” ; so utsava means “an occasion which gives human beings fresh inspiration to live a new life.” (A Few Problems Solved – 5, p.18)

Note 2: MUST NOT USE FIRECRACKERS

Many units have stopped using firecrackers during our Ananda Marga festival celebrations. Such firecrackers are a waste of money, create huge pollution, and invite serious injuries. Furthermore firecrackers are a carcinogen. Thus firecrackers are dangerous and wasteful on many levels. They should not be used at our programs. Instead the funds used for purchasing firecrackers should be directed toward enhancing our narayan seva & relief work that very day.

(A) In the below story Baba specifically warns us about the use of firecrackers - on multiple levels:

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“Tumi je esecho a’j, vyathit janer katha’ bhavite…” (Prabhata Samgiita 647)

Purport:

Baba, O Supreme One, the whole society was facing various types of tortures, humiliations and exploitation. No one was there to think about the exploited masses – those who were crying and suffering. Baba, feeling the cry of their heart, You Yourself have taken advent today. You are so gracious.

O’ Parama Purusa, in the past there was no one to love them. Now, with Your divine compassion, You have come to love all those downtrodden & exploited people – as well as one and all. With Your infinite compassion, You have removed everyone’s pains and grief. Baba, in the past, people were engulfed by various dogmas and their minds were completely stained. You have removed that cimmerian darkness from their existence. In the wake of Your holy advent You filled their lives with the effulgence of divinity.

Baba, the entire universe was looking toward the eastern horizon anxiously awaiting Your auspicious advent. The common people were facing excruciating tortures and torments; their entire existence was completely wounded. Baba, their whole body and limbs were racked by the blows of severe suffering. Due to carrying the heavy load of those burdens and bondages for such a long time, not even a tinge of happiness remained in their lives. Long back all their joy totally vanished.

O’ Parama Purusa, O’ Baba You are so gracious; You have showered so much effulgence in the bosom of this universe. By Your infinite love, You have inundated the hearts of everyone with more and more divine nectar. With Your sonorous yet thundering voice You are calling out to all that there is no reason that they should keep their heads hung in despair, rather they should keep their heads held high.

Baba, O’ Divine Entity, You have taken advent today...

== A’NANDA PU’RN’IMA’ CELEBRATIONS: BABA'S GUIDELINES ==

~ Part 2 ~

Note: This series of letters, "A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ Celebrations: Baba's Guidelines", has four parts. Each part, presented by a different margii, offers complementary ways and descriptions for celebrating Ananda Purnima. Together, these letters paint a picture for how to commemorate this grand festival. We wholeheartedly welcome your suggestions as well. - AM-GLOBAL Moderators

Namaskar,
Revered Baba has lovingly instilled within us all a vision for how to move ahead in life and He has graciously blessed us with the divine feeling of devotion, or bhakti. And indeed in each and every sphere of existence – whether physical, psychic, or spiritual– He has paved the way for humanity’s growth, generation, and enlightenment. Thus the divine and holy
advent of Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji is the most significant event this earth has ever seen. Naturally then the blessed day of Ananda Purnima is recognised as the greatest and most celebrated of all our AM social functions.

Here following are further suggestions and ways to celebrate this divine day.

As we all know, this year Ananda Purnima falls on 6 May.

CELEBRATIONS AROUND THE GLOBE– IN EACH AND EVERY UNIT

Unlike centralised events like DMS etc, the occasion of Ananda Purnima is meant to be joyfully celebrated in each and every unit. It is a local function for one and all. Thus every unit is highly encouraged to host their own Ananda Purnima celebration. And, sure enough, many ideal units do everything – more than a full day program. Thus margiis and sympathizers
often arrive the evening before for initial programs and presentations and then continue the next day of Ananda Purnima with a special paincajanya and celebrate the whole day through with a varied array of activities and programs, culminating and concluding late that evening. Here the main point being that, to one or another degree, blissful Ananda Purnima programs should take place locally in each and every unit– this is Baba’s prescribed system. And more about this idea is also appended as note 2 at the end of this letter.

SPECIAL PRABHAT SAMGIITA PROGRAMS

As everyone may remember, Baba has beautifully given the system of making extended Prabhat Samgiita programs whereby gathered margiis to sing the blissful song: Several compositions of Prabhat Samgiita. Just like we often have our long akhanda kiirtan programs of 3, 6, or 12 hours – in the same way these programs of Prabhat Samgiita can also take place.

Many may recall how Baba used to sit on the dais and call for the beginning of Prabhat Samgiita programs for the grand celebration of our Ananda Purnima social function. And it would proceed step by step where first one purport was read out by a selected margii and then the singing of that same song would begin and small young children of 8 or 9 years of age would dance to that song. And then as soon as that song was completed then another would begin with the reading of the purport followed by the singing and dance performance of that very song. And in this grand fashion several songs were linked together – all the while maintaining a nicely formatted sequence where the first song celebrated Baba’s holy advent and then the next song depicts His divine blessings etc. And by that way several songs are linked together creating one panoramic, devotional picture.

INCULCATING THE SPIRIT OF COLLECTIVE SAM’GACCHADVAM’

Plus Ananda Purnima is a wonderful opportunity to bring forth one and all in collective harmony.

Baba says, “At the outset of any festival or social ceremony, the Sam’gacchadvam’ mantra is recited, the purpose is to impose the common ideal on all. The love for the entire humanity.”  (Prout Nutshell - 4)

Thus on the festive occasions of Ananda Purnima small kids, youths, university students, parents, seniors and devotees of all walks of life - everyone moves together in one thread. So these social functions offer something for everyone, thus building the bridge of an ideal human society.

Indeed the joining and gathering for Ananda Purnima is a special event as it represents the union of everyone’s heart. This function is not like some crowd at the movie cinema, which is just a rag-tag collection of people with
their own individual agendas and separate thoughts. That is nothing but a crowd totally devoid of any family feeling. That is like one fake flower that is superficially colored yet carries no aroma. In contrast, our devotional, heart-felt gathering of Ananda Purnima reflects society in the deepest sense of the term where everyone is moving and smiling together as one integrated whole – ready to do each and everything for Baba and the humanity.

Thus at Ananda Purnima all are invited to sit together – money or other factors are not at all important. Everyone comes together regardless of one’s social status, career, educational background, or family history etc. It is a time for all grades of devotees to join together and gather for sweet celebrations, non-margiis are also invited – so long as they follow according to the sentient ways of the gathering. Only those anti-social elements, not at all interested in following the spirit of the program, should not be invited. Beyond that Ananda Purnima is a grand occasion for one and all.

ALL TYPES OF SOCIAL SERVICES

In addition, during Ananda Purnima all the trades and departments of AMPS partake in their respective social service programs. VSS optees do CSS, i.e collective social service such as public cleaning or repair work or other physical works for the security, safety, and welfare of the society etc. Side by side AMURT can operate their free medical clinics. In this way, Ananda Purnima is a day for doing all types of services because we Ananda Margiis are declassed and perform all the sevas.

A FRESH NEW START

Universal festivals like Ananda Purnima are also a time for forgetting about past differences and starting new relations. They are a time for a fresh new start where we bury old issues, forgive and forget, sit together, and invite a clean new beginning.

Baba guides us that in personal life it is best to forgive others with our full heart. Of course on matters of ideology or collective welfare we have no right to forgive anyone. But on personal affairs, forgiving others is the best course of action and what better time to do this than on the blissful occasion of Ananda Purnima.

THE IMPORTANCE OF FESTIVALS

Here following Baba is describing the great import that festive occasions like Ananda Purnima have on the human psyche. And that such social functions lead to the formation of a unified humanity.

Baba says, “When people become tired and uninspired, when they can no longer look towards the future with hope, when their colourful dreams are shattered, at that time the sweetness of a festival brings new joy and vigour in life. I hope that you will make such arrangements so that all are attracted towards your festivals which will be more and more charming – and this will bring about your collective welfare.” (A  Few Problems Solved -5, p.18)

Namaskar,

Shivadayal Deva

Note 1: USE BABA’S ORIGINAL ANANDA VANIIS –

NOT FAKE ANANDA VANIIS

Baba’s original and true Ananda Vaniis are His divine gifts for one and all as they encapsulate the spirit of Ananda Marga and the spirit of humanity. Thus, they are truly timeless and eternal treasures of humanity.

However, since 1990 certain respected leaders have been creating their own vaniis. They cut and paste quotes from previously posted discourses and call them Ananda Vaniis; when in fact the sentences they select are nothing but a small part of a greater discourse. They are taken out of context.

Baba’s original and true Ananda Vaniis are discourses unto themselves – complete, pointed, and stand alone as eternal truths and as spirited messages for the humanity. They are not mere quotes from other discourses. Baba's every Ananda Vanii is totally unique and original.

So what these leaders are doing is nothing but manufacturing Fake Ananda Vaniis. Yet they name these as Ananda Vaniis and read them on the occasion of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ etc. But again, these are nothing but Fake Ananda Vaniis.

What should we do?

While certain leaders continue creating Fake Ananda Vaniis, in each and every unit margiis should select one of Baba’s original timeless Ananda Vaniis and read that out at their Ananda Purnima celebrations.

Naturally, in due course, with circumstantial pressure, such persons will stop making Fake Ananda Vaniis. That day is fast approaching.

Note 2: LOCAL CELEBRATIONS ENCOURAGED

If any group is recommending that people come “to their place” – such as Tiljala, insinuating that theirs is best place for Ananda Purnima etc, then in our hearts and minds we should all know that Baba’s system is for Ananda Purnima to be celebrated locally in every unit, as His divine grace and presence is felt throughout this entire universe.

Note 3: THE ADVENT OF MAHASAMBHUTI

Baba says, “When He comes, after creating His own body with the help of the five fundamental factors– solid, liquid, luminous, aerial, ethereal – to create an ideological tidal wave, that is called as Maha’sambhu’ti. Maha’ means ‘great’, ‘having a form which is supra-natural’. And bhu plus ktin equals bhu’ti. Hence Maha’sambhuti means ‘The Great Creation’, ‘The Great Appearance’…[He comes] to push humans society forward, to resuscitate the half-dead human race, to awaken society– to create a wave in the field of ideology, in the social field, and in the field of humanity; [He comes] to
create a tidal wave in every dimension and on every level.” (Discourses on Tantra - 1, p. 136)

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“Maneri gahane tumi a’cho, a’cho prabhu sada’ jege a’cho…”  (Prabhata Samgiita 4380)

Purport:

Baba, O’ Divine Entity, You remain always in the depths of my mind – You never leave me. I am never alone. Baba, You are always awake. You go on working day and night, beyond time. You never tire or stop. Baba, whatever You want to do, You go on doing.

O Parama Purusa, this whole expressed universe is Your eternal game. You are ever-present: beginningless and endless. You are ever intoxicated in Your divine flow. You are the Goal of everyone – everyone wants You. You are remaining with one and all.

Baba, only those trying to come close to You by their virtuous deeds, shravan, manan, nididhyasana, & dhyana, are able to come to You. Only they are able to realise You and have Your grace and proximity.

Baba, You are grace-Personified…

Namaskar,

The auspicious and grand occasion of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ is coming soon.

The official day is Sunday, May 6 – though in many units celebrations start before then since A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ is the most significant social function in our Marga.

WE ALL KNOW...

Of course we all know that the holy day of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’ means Baba’s Birthday in colloquial parlance.

But He has graciously come to establish the lost humanity in divinity – elevating everyone’s standard, and paving the way for the reign of dharma.

A FEW MORE WAYS TO CELEBRATE THIS DAY

THE KEY POINT

In this way social functions and festivals are a time for us all to move together in His divine flow, regardless of one’s standard or status. Where one and all gather round in the spirit of unity. And top of all our special duty as devotees is to propagate the greatness and grandeur of Sadguru Baba. In a phrase we can say that this is the key point behind the auspicious occasion of A’nanda Pu’rn’ima’: To highlight Baba’s greatness.

Baba says, “The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings— That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidya (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamurtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty.” (Caryacarya II, p.1)

Namaskar,

Amriteshwar Deva

Note 1: SPIRIT OF OUR AM SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

The magnificent characteristic of all our Marga social gathering is that they welcome one and all irrespective of age, colour, race, profession, educational standard, etc, all types from all places are welcome. Indeed everyone comes together for sadhana, games, a feast, and other celebratory activities and by this way one social flow is formed thus making way for a healthy, unified human society.

Note 2: BABA’S BLESSING

On the celebratory occasions of our AM festivals like Ananda Purnima, Baba has graced us with this special blessing.

Baba says, “That which renews human existence and makes it full to the brim and overflowing with the joy of living is termed a festival...Inspire all people to live with a new spirit like true human beings. Let it inspire them with the fact that all humanity is an indivisible entity. On this auspicious day this is my inner wish.” (Ananda Vanii #48)

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

“A’sha’r pasara’ sahasa’ elo, a’lor tupha’n nikat’e elo...” (PS #3644)

Purport:

Suddenly Baba, the Divine Effulgence, has taken advent. The cyclone of divine effulgence has come close. His divine effulgence is immense, like a huge mountain covering the entire world. The whole world is inundated with the flood of divinity.

Even in remote corners, not even an iota of darkness was left. Not even a tinge of darkness or dirt could remain in anyone's mind. Everyone’s mind has become cleansed and purified. Parama Purusa Baba, with His divine effulgence, has taken advent and attracted everyone by the outpouring of love from His heart.

Everyone has received His special grace: Those bound in the cimmerian darkness and tied up in the deep, dark chasm, and those whose mind had accumulated dogma the size of a mountain. All are now basking in His divine grace. They have been blessed with the opportunity to look toward that divine effulgence. Their dogma and staticity vanished away with the advent of the new dawn.

Baba, the Parama Purusa, with His divine effulgence has come and showered His divine effulgence and graced everyone...

                            == HAPPY A'NANDA PU'RNIMA'!!==

This year A'nanda Pu'rnima' is to be observed May 17 - Wishing you a very happy and blissful day of devotional celebrations & merriment!!

As we know, Baba is the Polestar of our lives: He is our inspiration, He is our sustenance, and He is our Goal.

And this festival day of A'nanda Pu'rnima' marks Baba's divine advent onto this earth.

Wishing you and all in your area blissful A'nanda Pu'rnima' celebrations.

Here is one of His original A'nanda Va'niis that we wish to share with you - this is the one we are using in our unit.

Baba says, "The more the honest people are firm on morality, the more the evil forces will be active against them. So all the moralists of the universe  should remain organized and confront the evil forces unitedly." (Ananda Vanii #59)

             == CELEBRATING A'NANDA PU'RN'IMA' ==

Note: At the bottom of this letter are links to 4 in-depth letters about wonderful ways to honour and celebrate the grand occasion of Ananda Purnima. In addition this letter provided us with a spiritual outlook for this festival. Please write in with your thoughts.

Namaskar,
One of the most wonderful days of the year for Ananda Margiis all across the globe is Ananda Purnima. This is perhaps the most joyous and charming festival that we have. For this is the time when our Beloved Baba has taken the vow to come on this earth as Mahasambhuti and shower us in His divine love. Ananda Purnima marks the occasion when He has taken the firm determination to infuse dynamism into our individual and
collective bodies. It is the time when He has graciously come and made the world new all over again by bestowing upon us a new ideology and a new way of living.

In turn, it is also a time - a day - when we should remember His divine teachings of Átmamokśárthaḿ jagaddhitáya ca, liberation of self and service to society.

We should all strive to serve and please Him and incorporate more of Ananda Marga values and practices into our own lives. Whatever shortcomings we may have in personal life, we should aim to weed out those faults and take the samkalpa to become more strict in 16 Points etc.

Our philosophy is not to wait for certain days to start doing good work, so whenever the desire comes one should move ahead. But on this auspicious day we must do self-analysis and think what is lagging in our personal conduct and spiritual life and pointedly decide to improve our adherence to spiritual ideals and practices.

On Ananda Purnima we should take this blessed task upon ourselves. Human life is short so we should not be slack in any respects about yama and niyama and 16 Points.

These are some of the very blissful and practical ways to think about our Ananda Purnima festival. And as we all know this most charming festival is now upon us,
Tuesday, May 17.

A TIME TO SHAKE OFF THE OLD

As we live our lives, there is a tendency for things to become dreary and boring. It can happen to anyone. Because as colouful and exciting as this world is, still we get bogged down in our daily routines: Go to work; come home from work; wash the clothes; fold the clothes; pay the bills; check the email; attend to our appointments etc. Indeed, if we are not careful even our sadhana can become rote and mechanical. In that way, it can seem like we are doing the same thing day in and day out.

Firstly then this magnificent festival day of A'nanda Pu'rn'ima is a time to rid life of any dreary quality and invite a sense of wonder and vitality. That is one of main characteristics of our festivals (utsava) in Ananda Marga.

Baba says, "People often feel bored with their humdrum lives, with their mechanical routines; thus a fresh start must be created through [utsava] festivals...“Ut” means “above” and “sava” means “[[to take]] birth”; so utsava means “an occasion which gives human beings fresh inspiration to live a new life.” When people become tired and uninspired, when they can no longer look towards the future with hope, when their colourful dreams are shattered, at that time the sweetness of a festival brings new joy
and vigour in life. Thus in individual and collective life, the importance of festivals is tremendous. One should always remember that festivals should be such that all can take part in them without any ostentatious display of wealth, and with an upsurge of their life force. And these festivals should be conducted in such a way that people take
part in them from a spontaneous inner urge. I hope that you will make such arrangements so that all are attracted towards your festivals which will be more and more charming – and this will bring about your collective welfare." (AFPS-5)

Thus, this coming day of A'nanda Pu'rn'ima' is a time to break the cyclic repetition of mundane life and bring in an entire new freshness to our existence.

                       OUR SAMKALPA ON A'NANDA PU'RNIMA'

Second, we can think of this day of Ananda Pu'rn'ima' as a time to take a firm commitment to move ahead in our spiritual lives. Just as Baba has blessed us by taking the firm determination of coming into this world as Mahasambhuti; similarly, we should commit to doing something more - i.e. increasing our adherence - for our spiritual lives and His mission. Let this be our samkalpa on this day of A'nanda Pu'rn'ima'.

Because as we know, human life is an on going endeavour from imperfection to perfection.  It is the fight between avidya maya and vidya maya-- both in our individual and collective lives. So we have to expedite our speed.

Being on the spiritual path, this fight becomes even more stark. Either we are falling prey to the allurements of this quinquelemental world or we are advancing on the path of spiritual realisation. Each and every moment of our lives this is happening.

So this festival of A'nanda Pu'rn'ima' is a time for us to evaluate our course and commit to incorporating more of His divine ideas into our lives. This is the duty of each and every sadhaka. It is a time for us to leave our shortcomings behind and move forward on the divine path.

That is another way to think of this wonderful occasion of A'nanda Pu'rn'ima'.

                       BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace He has lovingly brought us onto the path of realisation and service; He has infused within us the desire to do something great in life. As His disciples, on this holy day of A'nanda Pu'rnima', we should take the samkalpa to live a life that is full of His Sixteen Points-- overcoming all degrading tendencies-- and become true mediums of His teachings.

Here is one Ananda Vanii to reflect upon on this most blissful day of A'nanda Pu'rn'ima'

Baba says, "The more the honest people are firm on morality, the more the evil forces will be active against them. So all the moralists of the universe  should remain organized and confront the evil forces unitedly." (Ananda Vanii #59)

Happy Ananda Pu'rn'ima' to all my brothers and sisters of the Marga!

Baba is so gracious!

Namaskar,

Note 1:         WHAT TYPE OF SAMKALPA SHOULD I TAKE

On this coming A'nanda Pu'rn'ima' day, we may ask ourselves, 'What type of samkalpa should I take?'. I discussed this with my Dada and this is how he explained it to me:

Our samkalpas will be based on blessedness and benevolence-- on how to bring
more of His teachings of Sixteen Points into our lives. So the overall theme of all of our vows will be the same, yet they may take different from one sadhaka to the next. For some who are not so strict in fasting, then this may be a time to commit to that practice. For those who need to be more regular in their asana practice, they might commit more to that. Depending on the person, the vow may take a different shape-- a different form. But in spirit, the vow will be the same: To please Baba by further advancing along the path of spirituality, by His grace and His grace alone. Surely we will be successful.

"Maneri gahane tumi a'cho, a'cho prabhu sada' jege a'cho..." (4380)

Purport:

Baba, You are always remaining in the depths of my mind-- You never
leave me. You always remain awake. You go on working day and night,
beyond the time. You never stop. Baba, whatever You want to do, You go
on doing. This whole expressed universe is Your eternal game. You are
ever-present: beginningless and endless. You are ever intoxicated in
Your divine flow. You are the Goal of everyone-- everyone wants You. You
are remaining with one and all. Those who are trying to come close to
You by their virtuous deeds and shravan, manan, nididhyasana, & dhyana,
only they are able to come to You. Only they are able to realise You and
have Your grace and proximity. Baba, You are grace-Personified...

Baba

== THE VALUE OF PURPORTS ==

Note: With Ananda Purnima approaching (May 17) the various groups are readying to  release their Fake Ananda Vaniis. Yet we all know only Baba's original Ananda Vaniis should be used for such occasions. All should be alert about this.

Namaskar,
Of all Baba's divine teachings, Ananda Vaniis are some of the most rare.
His discourses number in the thousands; His talks on dharma number in the
hundreds; even His sutras of Ananda Sutram top the century mark being 125
in total. However in this universe there are only 74 original and true
Ananda Vaniis. So they are something quite unique-- yet also a bit overlooked.

Here below are some important points about the great significance of Ananda
Vaniis. And in particular why we should be vigilant to get the purports of
these magnificent and eternal guidelines.

This letter investigates why the various groups must stop creating their fake Ananda Vaniis.

                   ANANDA VANIIS HAVE PURPORTS

All along it has been the standard practice for Baba's discourses to be
translated into as many languages as possible-- but never was further
explanation given about a particular discourse by Baba Himself. Classes may
have been offered later on by this or that acarya, but Baba never would
deliver a discourse and then directly afterwards give further explanation
about that very discourse. This was not done. Reason being that His
discourses are already explanatory in nature and contain numerous stories,
analogies, and descriptions in order to make the matter perfectly clear and
understandable.

In contrast, with His Ananda Vaniis the case is totally different. They are
pointed, distilled teachings given in concentrated form-- hence they demand
further elaboration and explanation. For this reason Baba Himself was
delivering purports for His Ananda Vaniis during DMC itself.

As many are aware, Baba's Ananda Vaniis are only a few lines in length and
Baba Himself would write it down in His own handwriting. And then that very
Vanii was read aloud at DMC in all the languages. Directly afterwards Baba
Himself would give a line by line explanation of the Ananda Vanii. This
would happen for half-an-hour or more. So you can imagine how much He used
to say. So He Himself would give the initial explanation and thereafter
others were invited to speak and share their understanding of the Vanii--
and during that period Baba would often interject in order to lovingly
guide the Margii speaker.

But always the system was that first the Vanii would be read in the
various languages; second Baba would provide His own explanation or
purport; and then others were also called up to comment and say something.
This was the regular pattern.

All done in this fashion because Baba's Ananda Vaniis are so dense and
intensely concise.

Altogether His Ananda Vaniis are similar to the Samgacchadhvam mantra, Guru
Puja, etc in that a discourse is needed to provide the meaning of the
mantra. Likewise Baba was giving extended purports of His Ananda Vaniis to
provide further insight about their meaning.

So by this way we can understand that Baba's original and true Ananda
Vaniis are very concentrated and very pointed. Treating them as ordinary
discourses is not at alll appropriate since Baba used to give explanations
or purports for those very Ananda Vaniis.

ALSO SIMILAR TO PRABHATA SAMGIITA & ANANDA SUTRAM

In addition, Baba's Ananda Vaniis are similar to the case of Prabhat Samgiita
and Ananda Sutram in that Baba has given purports for each of these three
genres. Baba's original Ananda Vaniis are about inspiration and moving
ahead whereas Prabhat Samgiita comes within the scope of aesthetic &
supra-aesthetic science and Ananda Sutram is our philosophical treatise.

But all three are similar in that they all fall in the same unique
category-- as they all demand further explanation such that Baba Himself
has given purports for all these three teachings.

                    FAKE ANNADA VANII

In contrast this quality or concentrated approach is not present in the
quotes of His regular discourses. Hence when groupist leaders take a few
lines from one of the standard discourses and falsely present that as an
Ananda Vanii then that is terribly degrading. Rather that is nothing but a
Fake Ananda Vanii. And those doing this are culprits since they are
degrading the real status of Baba's true Ananda Vaniis.

More about this is written further below.

                    ALTERATION & DISTORTION

As we all know, Baba has given a title for all His discourses discourse.
Thus extracting lines from a particular discourse and retitling those
lines as Ananda Vanii is totally wrong. This is all non-sense as one
cannot give a quote as Ananda Vanii. Because Ananda Vanii's are in a
totally different league. Calling such quotes as Ananda Vaniis is
violatingBaba's system-- and against Baba's desire.

                          CONCLUSION

Baba is Parama Purusa and all He has given is apta vakya-- eternal truth,
so why should some things be discarded or marked as being outdated or be
replaced by something entirely Fake. Rather we should celebrate the dharmic
quality and everlasting value of Baba's original Ananda Vanii.

                         BABA'S BLESSING

Baba says, "If you think that you are the child of Parama Purusa and have
come to this world to accomplish the job assigned by Parama Purusa, that
you are never alone and that you are a small baby always sitting on the lap
of Parama Purusa, why should you be afraid of anything? There is no reason
to be afraid of anything." (PNS-7, p.63)

Namaskar,
Bhavanath

NOTE 1:                VERY CONCENTRATED TEACHING

With Baba's original and true Ananda Vaniis it is important to read
them several times in order to get the full meaning and value. Because they
are concentrated teachings of pure dharma. In contrast the present day fake
Ananda Vaniis are quite different. They are from an existing discourse and not
meant to stand alone. To understand those lines one must read the full discourse.
Whereas Baba's true and original Ananda Vaniis are special messages that
are different from His teachings in the discourses. The main thing being
that they are very dense and full of unseen wisdom. That is why without proper
explanation many may not properly understand Baba's true Ananda Vaniis.

NOTE 2:   MAKING THE ANANDA VANII PURPORTS AVAILABLE TO MARGIIS

All know that Baba has given purports for Ananda Sutram & Prabhat
Samgiita-- as those purports have made it into book form. But nowadays the
purports of Ananda Vaniis are not at all being recognised. Some got
recorded and some not. But none are being recognised or referred to. When
surely many years worth of Baba's purports of Ananda Vaniis were recorded
and heard by one and all in the DMC pandal itself. So these explanations
should be accepted as discourses. A call then must be put forth to recover
and print those pristine purports which Baba has given for Ananda Vaniis.

NOTE 3:      ANANDA VANIIS ARE OF ETERNAL VALUE

As Ananda Margiis, we know that Baba has always utilized each and every day
to bestow upon us innumerable new teachings and countless special
guidelines. Often that has come in the form of a discourse or Prabhat
Samgiita or field walk etc. In that way each and every discourse or Prabhat
Samgiita song is dated and marked where it has been given.

Of course, though, every bhakta clearly understands that the given
discourse or Prabhat Samgiita song has eternal and permanent value. No one
thinks that the discourse was only useful on that particular day when it
was given and that thereafter it has no relevance. None think in this manner.

Rather we all consider that the discourse which Baba has given is a
universal teaching that transcends time, space, and person-- and that the
attached date is for record purposes only. In that way all Baba's divine
teachings can be organised in chronological fashion yet retain their own
original integrity timeless quality.

Hence the matter is straightforward & clear.

Unfortunately, though, Baba's original and true Ananda Vaniis are not
getting treated in that same dharmic fashion. Because although Ananda
Vaniis are eternal in nature and universal in application, some persons are
limiting the relevance of a  given Ananda Vanii to a particular date and
year. They think that every Ananda Vanii is of January 1 of such-&-such
year or of Ananda Purnima of such-and-such year and that now it is
outdated. This is their misguided outlook.

So in that way Baba's divine and timeless Ananda Vaniis are not getting
their duly deserved eternal status.

Yet just as Ananda Sutram is of a universal and timeless value, same is
that case with our Ananda Vaniis. They can be referred to and studied again
and again just like various sutras, but this is not being done.

Means Ananda Vaniis are not respected as being an eternal guidelines;
rather some off the mark people wrongly consider Ananda Vaniis to be
limited to a particular time and place.

Yet just as the sutras of Ananda Sutram are treated as key points of AM
philosophy, in the same way all the inspirational guidelines which Baba has
given as Ananda Vaniis deserve that same sanctified status. But instead
they are often treated as or reduced to something temporary or passing. As
if the Vanii of 1st January 1961 no longer applies to today's world and
that that Vanii itself is just a point of history-- nothing more. When true
devotees know that all Baba's Ananda Vaniis are eternal guidelines,
applicable to numerous situations.

So that injustice has been done to our Ananda Vaniis.

Overall then we must work to restore the proper sanctity and reverence of
Ananda Vanii. Nobody tries to relegate Prabhat Samgiita or Baba's
discourses to a specific place or person or date-- thinking that they are
antiquated.

Similarly we cannot allow certain groupist to state / blame that Baba's
original Ananda Vaniis have gotten old like  one outdated crusty newspaper.
But some are doing like that-- so that should be corrected.

Baba's original and true Ananda Vaniis are times and should be contemplated
and read again and again.

                                   PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Toma'r liila' tumii bojha, a'ro keu ta'ha' bujhite ki pa're..."  (P.S. 722)

Purport:

Baba, You are so loving and unique. Only You can understand Your divine
liila. No one except You can know the way You are playing liila. Who can
understand Your liila? Before understanding the liila of Liilamaya (Liila
Personified), I will have to realise You, the Liilamaya. In order to
understand the divine play I will have to realise You, the Controller.
Baba, You are my Heart of hearts.
Why does the sun rise in the east. And why does it always set in the
west. And why does it make a purple coloured sunset. Why do all these
things happen? Baba only You know. And why only one moon is floating in the
sky, yet by that way the night becomes effulgent with the moonlight. Why do
such things occur? Who arranges all these affairs? Why this liila? Who is
behind these things? Baba, only You know.
To know Your liila is impossible. Why snow forms on the high peaks of
the mountains; and why the color of the sky is blue; and why pearls have a
brilliant white colour. Why each and everything has its own inherent
qualities. Who can understand all this-- only You Baba.
Baba, please grace me to understand and realise You. Baba to understand
Your liila is very difficult. That is why I have only one desire-- to
understand You. And without Your grace it is not possible. Please grace me,
O' Liilamaya....

                    Fight Against Death

Baba says, "The inner motivation of ta'n'd'ava is the following:
'Destruction is inevitable, but I will continue to fight against
destruction through struggle'. So there is a skull in one hand and a dagger
in the other. The skull represents destruction, and the dagger represents
fight. The underlying feeling is 'I will not surrender to destruction or
death. I will continue the struggle with this dagger'." (9 Nov 1978 Calcutta)

1. In the aforesaid guideline, Baba is teaching the inner spirit of tandava.

2. Usually in this materialistic world, people fear death immensely.
Tandava is the solution.
3. During the daytime tandava must always be done with a skull and dagger,
as they are visible then.
4. But when it is dark, then a lit fire torch or flame (masha'la) should be
used. And the spirit of tandava should be remembered so that fear of death
will be eliminated from the mind.
5. This tandava dance is the only physical exercise of the brain.
