Baba

                         == EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT ==

Namaskar,
I vividly recall an event from Sambalpur DMS October 1979.

Note: As may of you probably remember, Baba did not grant DMC because of the poor performance & output with regards to organisational activities in the Sambalpur Diocese. As we all know changing a program from DMC to DMS means that there will not be varabhaya mudra. Needless to say, the margiis were very concerned by the fact that they had lost the opportunity for DMC. They requested but in His loving liila Baba remained strict on the point that the requisite work had not been completed. Even then, Baba graced all with His presence and granted a different type of blessing.

Herein then are multiple stories:
(A) How by Baba's grace I met up with margiis and attended Baba's darshan that day;
(B) How in His grand liila, Baba decided which language to deliver His divine discourse;
(C) How Baba graciously accepted guru puja but would not give His varabhaya mudra;
(D) How Publications Dept totally ruined the printed Hindi edition of the discourse by translating it from Bengali rather then keeping the original Hindi "as is".

                                        SURPRISE MEETING

First I shall recount my story of how I got to be with Baba at the DMS program.

The year was 1979. Just after the puja holidays, I was returning from my hometown to my engineering college nearby Sambalpur via Rourkela. In Jharsuguda I had to change trains. Much to my surprise, there in the station, I saw about 50 margiis from my hometown. My joy knew no bounds to see them. They then informed me they had come to attend the Sambalpur program.

Since that area was familiar to me, I led my margii brothers and sisters to the place: Katurba Na'rii Samiti Hall in the Khetrajpur, Sambalpur. Once there, by Baba's grace, I also attended Baba's grand darshan.

BABA: WHICH LANGUAGE SHOULD I SPEAK?

On the last night of DMS, before delivering His discourse, Baba inquired in English: "In which language should I deliver My discourse?"

Upon hearing this all the margiis present began putting forth their requests:

“Baba! Odiya”.

“Baba! Sambalpuri”.

”Baba! Chattisgarhi”.

In this way so many language requests were made.

Then Beloved Baba turned to Professor Lokanath Pradhan who was sitting on dais near Him and asked, "What do you say?".

Shrii Pradhan replied, “Baba, since most of the margiis here are Hindi speaking please deliver the discourse in Hindi.”

Immediately Baba said, "No, No, they are not Hindi speaking, but Hindi understanding. So I would like to speak in Hindi."

And indeed, on that glorious day, Baba graciously gave His discourse in Hindi and all present on that occasion enjoyed it immensely.

Baba concluded His discourse by saying: "Kalyanamastu".

And that was to be the end of the program since it was only DMS and not DMC.

BABA ACCEPTS GURU PUJA BUT VARABHAYA MUDRA NOT GIVEN

All the margiis present were anxiously watching Baba's divine Self with baited breath. Baba turned to PA Dada and said, "Let's go".

PA Dada replied, "Yes".

Then Baba started to adjust His position on the dais as if He was getting ready to rise up from His seat.

Note: As you the reader may be aware, wherever Baba would hold DMS / DMC, the system was that the local bhukti pradhan (BP) would respectfully ask Baba if the margiis could do Guru Puja. If Baba accepts, then it will be DMC. In which case guru puja is done and Baba showers all with His divine varabhaya mudra blessing. But that did not happen on this occasion. Baba accepted guru puja but did not give varabhaya mudra. See below how the scene unfolded.

On this particular occasion at Sambalpur, the BP had been next to PA Dada. When the BP saw that Baba was getting ready to rise up from dais, then the BP, with tears in his eyes and folded hands, softly pleaded by with this appeal: "Baba".

Baba replied, "Hmm".

The BP humbly inquired, "Dharma maha cakra".

Baba paused.

The BP softly repeated, "Baba, dharma maha cakra".

Baba again paused.

The BP put forth his request yet again.

Baba then said to PA: "What does he say".

PA Dada kept quiet.

Baba sweetly said, "Why DMC, already general darshan was done."

Baba gently said to the BP: "The quota was not fulfilled."

With folded hands the BP pleaded in Oriya, "Baba, the quota will be fulfilled - dharma maha cakra - Baba guru puja".

Baba listened.

Then PA gave one Dada the order to start guru puja.

That Dada then started guru puja, and all the margiis followed in call and response style.

After the three rounds of guru puja and the pranam mantra, Baba gave His divine blessing in Sanskrit - "Sarve'tra sukhinah bhavantu..." - then He repeated it in English - "Let everybody be happy...".

Ba'ba' then got down from the dais without giving varabhaya mudra.

Everyone exclaimed: "Ba'ba', vara'bhay mu'dra'." Prof. Pradhan - the bhukti pradhan - also requested.

But Ba'ba' did not acquiesce to their pleas and instead declared it as DMS because of poor performance by the bhukti. After standing up, Baba graced all by giving blessing by showing the palm of His right hand. Then He left the hall.

As Baba graciously made His exit, everyone present start chanting the Jai slogan in Oriya.

                                  WHAT WRONG HAPPENED

Now see the injustice that has been done.

The above discourse which Baba beautifully delivered at the Sambalpur DMS on 20 Oct 1979 in Hindi has been wrongly published. Instead of merely transcribing Baba's original Hindi discourse (i.e. Hindi audio to Hindi written), they translated the original Hindi audio into Bengali and then retranslated the Bengali back to Hindi. By this concocted manner, the printed Hindi edition of the discourse was wrongly published.

Due to this faulty process of taking the original Hindi and translating it into Bengali and then retranslating it into Hindi, the printed Hindi words do not match what Baba spoke that day in Hindi. Those printed words are a misrepresentation of His DMS discourse.

For everyone's awareness, the printed Hindi discourse is titled, Veda Tatha' Tantra, and appears in Subhasita Samgraha-13, chapter 6.

                                     THE MEANING BECOMES LOST

It is well documented by researchers all over the world that whenever an original discourse or speech is translated into another language, then a distinct percentage of the meaning of the discourse is lost.

And indeed through translation after translation, the original speech gets distorted. This has been demonstrated and proven by numerous studies conducted by universities and privately funded foundations all over the globe. The department of linguistics, communiations, and literature etc have done extensive research about this. Please refer to the human resource development work done at various research institutions.

                                     WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE

Of course the entire solution to this problem is quite simple. Baba delivered the discourse in Hindi. Just transcribe that word for word. That means write down in Hindi what Baba originally spoke in Hindi. That is all. There is no need for any translation. Once done, then the printed Hindi version will be totally authentic. It will be a perfect representation of Baba's original spoken discourse.

Tragically, those in our Publications Dept do not do like this. Due to orders from certain higher authorities, they translate the original Hindi into Bangla and then retranslate it back to Hindi. Why do they do this? They do this out of their linguisitic sentiment to show Bengali as being top. It is the dogma of Bangalisation. And by this misguided manner they totally ruin Baba's holy discourses. That is the end result of their shenanigans.

Best is to simply transcribe what Baba spoke as is. That means when Baba spoke in Hindi then that discourse should first be transcribed and printed in Hindi; when Baba spoke in English then that discourse should first be transcribed and printed in English. And indeed this approach should be taken with all the discourses. Then the authenticity and sanctity of the discourse will be properly maintained.

                                        MY PERSONAL REQUEST

I personally request the brothers & sisters in our organisation who are at the helm of affairs for Publication Department to restore Baba' 's discourses in the original language as it was given. And it is the duty of every Ananda Margii to ensure this is done.

Baba says, "The scriptures containing spiritual injunctions must be totally flawless." (NSS, Disc: 14)

Brotherly yours,
Na'ra'yan'a Panda

                                             PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Toma'r a'sa'-ja'oya' hoy na' kabhu, prabhu ekatha' jeneo na' ja'ni..."  P.S. 274

Purport:

Baba, by Your grace You always remain with me & with everyone eternally; that is why it is said that Your arrival and departure never happens. I am aware about this eternal truth, but even then I do not know and I remain forgetful. I know this but also I do not know.

Baba, Your arrival and Your farewell are not possible because You are eternally present. This is so mysterious that I know and even then I do not know. I have difficulty comprehending it. O' Baba, sometimes I think You are near and sometimes I think You are far. That is all my misunderstanding.

Baba, You have created this world in such a way that when anything is flourishing or blooming that very time the seed of destruction is hidden within. In due course everything perishes; nothing lasts forever. This type of divine play is going on in this cosmic cycle, eternally.

On the one side with Your two eyes You saturate everyone with Your love, and on the other side from Your third eye the flame of fire is coming which burns everything. In this creation of Yours, the sweetness of effulgence is always accompanied by the black shadow of death which falls gradually. In this entire divine play You are the black shadow and You are also the sweet effulgence; You are everything. Baba, You are Love Personified.

Baba, Your arrival and farewell never happens because You are omnipresent...

          ********************************************
                     Do Not Quarrel

Baba says, "'Stop, stop'-- 'do not quarrel'-- 'there is no use of fighting'-- 'peace, peace'-- uttering all these good words will not do; it will stop no one. Peace may come for the time being, but it will not be permanent; like an-ash covered spark, unrest will again flair up. If human beings want to save themselves from this catastrophe, the only way is to march forwards towards a single goal." (PNS-14, p.12)

Note: By seeing the negative condition of our present-day organisation, some simple margiis just propagate the idea that 'stop, stop, do not quarrel' etc. But that is not going to work. Everyone should understand this thing. This group fight is going on because they forgot the one unit goal that Baba is everything. And that spirituality is the top-most. Until those spiritual values will not be accepted, and neo-humanism will not be followed, then this group fight will not come to an end. Rather for unity, one single Goal is needed. But these groupist leaders are giving lip service to that but in their heart they do not believe Baba. That is why since the beginning they have distorted Baba's teachings for their own selfish gain. So they do not believe in Baba in real sense. So one should know their hypocrisy. Those who lost the Goal-- they are quarreling amongst themselves.

BABA

== BABA STORY ABOUT SERIOUS INJUSTICE ==

Namaskar,
Here is one key event from the 2011 DMS at Ananda Nagar (January) that we should collectively review. It is deeply related with one Baba story. First let's tell the Baba story and then we will narrate the critical happening from the January 2011 DMS.

                                               BABA STORY:

                         PRIZES WRONGLY AWARDED AT DMC

As per the custom, with pomp and show, prizes were awarded at the January 1983 DMC at Ananda Nagar. A committee comprised of Wts convened and selected the winners; and, accordingly those recipients received the award at DMC.

After finishing the program, Baba made His exit from the pandal and returned back to the BQ (Baba's Quarters). Baba then called the various in-charges and questioned them about the prizes. Baba then appointed a team to further investigate the matter. The investigative team quickly reported back to Baba and confirmed that the selection process had been biased and that the prizes had been given to undeserving and unworthy candidates.

Baba immediately called all the workers to His room and He harshly scolded those Dadas on the selection committee for their partiality and favouritism. Baba told them that the work of a judge is an honourable duty yet they had denigrated the position by their sour dealings. What they had done was shameful and deplorable. Baba then ordered those guilty Dadas to get down on the ground and press their nose into the floor. They were then told to rub their nose across the carpet for 10 ft. This act was punishment to humiliate them so they could understand their sinful behaviour; there was no injury or physical pain involved as the carpet was soft. As those guilty committee members did like this, the rest of the Wts present chanted, "Shame, Shame...Shame, Shame." Then those guilty Dadas promised those present that they would never commit such sin in the future.

The next day in the DMC pandal, it was announced to everyone that the prizes had been wrongly awarded. The selection committee had been partial. They had failed miserably in carrying out their duty as judge. Theirs was a kangaroo committee. Baba then made those guilty Dadas come up on the stage and beg apology and ask for forgiveness from all those assembled in the DMC pandal.

Baba said to all, "Should they be pardoned?". All present that day approved.

But that was not the end of the situation.

Baba then rebuked those undeserving recipients for accepting the award. Baba demanded that such persons should never have accepted those prizes. Rather they should have stood up and said, "I am not worthy of this award." In this manner Baba strongly blamed both parties involved: The selection committee and the recipients. Baba blamed both parties; all were culprits.

Baba went on to explain in front of everyone that this is not the way to build a healthy human society. The duty of a judge should be carried out responsibly; partiality has no place in our social life. In addition, incompetent persons should never be commended or awarded prizes. Rather deserving people should always be recognised.

In closing, Baba fully ensured that all those prizes were redistributed to worthy candidates.

Everyone who attended that DMC got a big lesson: In our Marga there is no place for partiality and favouritism. All prizes must be awarded in a conscientious manner to deserving people - otherwise both parties are to be blamed: Both the selection committee and the recipients. That is what we should all take away from this story.

YOU CAN ALSO PURCHASE ANY PRIZE IN AM THESE DAYS

Now let's take a look at what occurred at the January 2011 DMS. At that DMS prizes were awarded by PP Dada Vishvadevananda. In particular, someone received the prize as "The Best Bhukti Pradhan". Usually such prizes are given to those BP's who have done great work such as extraordinary pracara or unparalleled social service etc. Otherwise how can they be named as the best bhukti pradhan in the world.

But here in this case, one margii who never attends DC, is slack in 16 Points, and involves in caste marriages was given the prize of best bhukti pradhan. In addition, this margii neither practices sadhana nor asanas regularly, and he indulges in poor food habits. The only qualification he has is money; he is rich. Because of this, he was able to purchase the 2011 January DMS prize: "The Best Bhukti Pradhan" of the entire planet.

Here is the story about that BP.

To keep control of the Hyderabad unit, Dada Savitananda has repeatedly requested Sanjay Goenkaji to serve as the BP of Hyderabad. No election takes place; just he is granted the position outrightly.

At the same time, if you ask Sanjay Goenka if he attends DC at the jagrti in Hyderabad, then he will reply negatively. Indeed it is commonly known that Sanjay Goenka does not regularly attend dharmacakra at the jagrti - plus many are aware that Sanjay Goenka is quite lax in 16 Pts and he follows casteism. All the marriages in his family are arranged within his own caste, i.e. the marwarai business community of India. One should not forget that this community is notorious for sucking the blood of others.

The question comes: Why is Goenkaji automatically granted the post of BP by Savitananda? Answer: Because Sanjay Goenka is a moneyed man. He has money and he gives big money to certain Dadas in the organisation. For that reason he is given the BP post year after year after year.

Now we come to the real issue.

At the January 2011 Ananda Nagar DMS, PP Dada (i.e. Vishvadevananda) awarded Sanjay Goenka the prize of "The Best Bhukti Pradhan" of the entire world - and Goenkaji accepted.

Yet we all know that Baba says that every bhukti pradhan must be very diligent in 16 Points. The BP must be sincere in sadhana, and follow all the personal points like asanas, fasting, use of water and much more. And the BP of course must attend dharmacakra and oppose dogmas like the caste system. Across Delhi sector and throughout the globe we have countless BP's who are very sincere in attending to all of Sixteen Points; indeed there are so many deserving and qualified candidates. Yet "The Best Bhukti Pradhan" prize was awarded to Sanjay Goenka of Hyderabad, someone who does not even regularly attend the weekly dharmacakra at the jagrti.

Is this not shameful.

According to the teaching from the above Baba story, both the selection committee and the recipient should be rebuked harshly. They should be punished and made to rub their nose on the ground in front of all at dharmacakra and the next DMS. Otherwise they will have to face consequences for their sinful dealing life after life. If anyone is not punished for their adharmic misdeeds, they cannot escape from the Cosmic Operative Principle. So the selection committee must atone for their sin and beg apology in front of all and Goenka should stand up and say that he is not deserving of this prize. Then and only then will things be righted.

Unfortunately, the selection committee was partial and unjust, and the recipient was unworthy. It is as simple as that. It is tragic that those involved failed to learn from Baba's divine example.

                                  THE REAL DETERMINING FACTOR

Here Baba guides us that proper conduct - i.e. strict adherence to 16 Points - is the requisite factor for determining one's worth. Then one is deserving of receiving a top prize like "Best Bhukti Pradhan" - otherwise not.

Baba says, "Your ideal is represented by your conduct. Your learning, your social or economic status have nothing to do with your ideal." (Ananda Vanii #13)

Thus money and social status have nothing to do with being worthy of a prize. It must be based purely on one's dharmic conduct. Yet Sanjay Goenka received the prize exclusively because of his financial wealth. There is no other reason.

BLACK PACT BETWEEN CAPITALISTS & PRIESTS

Why did this terrible injustice happen with the "Best BP "prize? Here following is the reason given by Baba.

Baba says, "Capitalism will never go against the priesthood nor will priests go against capitalism." (PNS-15, Talks on Prout)

As Baba explains above there is a black pact between capitalists (Sanjay Goenka) and the priest class (our Acaryas etc). Here we should all remember that the term priest means acarya, avadhuta, and those attending to religious / dharmic duties.

Baba furthermore describes this problem.

Baba says, "Religious exploiters maintain an unholy alliance with the capitalistic exploiters. With hands upraised, a religious preceptor blesses the wealthy merchants for their future prosperity but refuses to see the faces of his poor disciples who fail to provide handsome prańámii (a fee for the priest’s blessing)." (AMIWL-7)

Similarly, PP Dada & Co were quick to recognise Sanjay Goenka because of his wealth while all those sincere margiis were skipped over by the prize committee.

HOW TO PREVENT THIS IN THE FUTURE

Those judges who select the recipients of the prizes are the main culprits as they plunged themselves into partiality. Here then Baba provides us with the key way to prevent such serious injustices in the future. Baba wants that judges should be ideal as noted below.

Baba says, "Judges should be carefully selected from among those whose strength of character is irrefutable." (HS-1)

When this is done - when our judges are of sterling character - then we will not witness such sinful events like PP Dada bestowing a prestigious prize upon a totally undeserving candidate like Sanjay Goenka.

Namaskar,
Ishvara

Note:                 PLEASE FORWARD TO SANJAY GOENKA

Please send this letter to Sanjay Goenka and if you do not know his email address then send this letter to his relation, SS Goenka. This will help Sanjay Goenka to mend his ways and get the requital of his sins. Finally, if anyone has Sanjay Goenka's email address please send that to me so I can serve him also.

"A'laker saurrathe saba'y nite tumi esecho..."  - P.S. 1089

Purport:

Baba, You have come with the shining chariot of divine effulgence. You
have come to take everyone to the divine realm.
You do not differentiate between who is great, who is meagre, & who is
small etc. You listen to everyone's tales-- to everyone's feeling of the
heart.
Baba, even without seeing You, I have loved You. I am always feeling
close & loving towards You. And even when I have not heard about You, I
have been attracted by Your divinity.   Baba, You are so gracious. You
do not make judgements based on one's merits or demerits. You love all,
unconditionally. And I understand that You are always present-- across
all time and space.
O' my dearmost, You have done so much for me, and in return You do
not want anything. In spite of knowing about hundreds of defects in me,
You have made me Yours and accepted me as Your own.
Baba, You have showered Your causeless grace on me. You have come here
on this dusty earth to take everyone onto the path of divinity. Baba,
You are so gracious...

Baba's Flying Messenger

Baba

             == BABA'S FLYING MESSENGER ==

Namaskar,
As Ananda Margiis, the best memories and most beautiful experiences in
our life revolve around being with Baba-- either through our dreams, in
our sadhana, or being in His physical proximity. All these remembrances
bring a wave of sweetness and bliss. And truly we are blessed to have
His personal touch in this life. That is nothing but His divine grace.

One of the greatest things about Baba is that everything He does is
aimed towards bringing us closer to Him. His teachings, His stories, His
affection, His scolding, His directives, and His humour are all done for
one special reason: So that we may be drawn closer to Him and realise
His infinite love.

In that way, everything He does is for our betterment and growth and
this following story leads in this very same direction.

"A FLYING BUFFALO HAS TOLD ME..."

We have all heard the line, 'A flying buffalo or camel or lizard or
various other types of animals have come and whispered in my ear'. This
extremely humorous explanation was Baba's way of telling us that He is
aware about each and every thing and that He is always with us-- caring
and watching.

STORY ABOUT KAOSHIKII COMPETITION AT DMC

One time at DMC in April in Daltonganj, all the margiis and acaryas had
assembled and were excitedly waiting for Baba's divine arrival into the
Pandal. The year was 1984. There was so much anticipation and so much
electricity in the air and our Marga was on the rise. Everyday Baba was
giving new teachings and every week more and more devotees were coming
from around the globe to be with Baba. The days of Emergency were now
long behind us and everything in AM was thriving. New people were
swarming into the Marga.

                 ALL WAITING FOR HIS ARRIVAL

So in that anxious moment when all were waiting for Baba's august
presence, the pandal was filled with the devotional chanting of kiirtan.
And after every round as the kiirtan was sung, we are were sure that at
this moment Baba would make His arrival. But alas it was not to be. And
again the devotional longing would mount in kiirtan until the thought of
Him still not coming was unbearable. We were all lost in His thought and
His rhythm.

Then just as it seemed that the kiirtan would go on forever, there was a
massive call from the front of the pandal, 'Parama Pita Baba Ki!' and we
all shouted 'Jai!".

Still there was no physical sign of Baba's arrival but we could feel
that any second He would come forth. Then again came the call 'Parama
Pita Baba Ki' and in unison everyone responded 'Jai!'. This went on for
4 or 5 more rounds until the sound reached its peak and every cell of
everyone's existence was totally focused on His coming.

                         BABA'S DIVINE ARRIVAL

And in that electrifying moment, Baba emerged from behind the stage and
did His folded hand blessing to all. A wave of bliss spread through the
mass of devotees who had gathered. And in a majestic way Baba walked
across the stage, using His cane in the most regal manner. Cries of,
'Baba, Baba, Baba' filled the air. And all the while there were Dadas
surrounding Him watching His each and every step.

When Baba reached the dais and turned to sit down, then immediately PA
Dada came forward and removed Baba's shoes and helped get Baba
comfortably situated on His seat. Pillows were arranged and everything
was made neat and clean. A glass of water was offered to Baba and He
sipped gently from the glass taking a small amount of water.

Little by little, the sound in the Pandal began to lessen as all eyes
became fixed on Baba. Everyone was watching Him intently to see what
would happen next. Then in a joyful mood, Baba asked, 'How is everyone?
Have you had enough to eat? Are you alright?'. And everyone responded,
'Yes Baba'.

BABA'S FLYING MESSENGER & KAOSHIKII COMPETITION

Then came the call for brothers kaoshikii. Still at that time, kaoshikii
was relatively new, and everyone was learning to improve their rhythm
and form. So in that spirit, a kaoshikii competition wa to be done in
front of Baba. So many brothers participated and Baba gently nodded
approvingly as they did their dance.

At that time, many of the margii sisters were thinking to themselves
that they would not have to dance kaoshikii today as they were not prepared.

So after the brothers finished their dance, then Baba look around and
everyone was waiting for the inevitable-- for Him to request the sisters
to dance kaoshikii. But it did not happen. Baba delayed and the room was
quiet.

And then in the next moment, in Hindi Baba said, 'A flying camel has
come and told me that the girls do not want to participate in the
kaoshikii competition'.

After saying this, then Baba was smiling and looking all around the
pandal and in response everyone started smiling and laughing.

Seeing this whole scene, then the sisters quickly came forward and said,
'We want to participate in the kaoshikii competition'.

Then Baba replied, 'As you like'.

And accordingly those sisters did their competition in kaoshikii and
Baba gave His approval.

BABA'S SPECIAL WAY IS ONE BOON FOR DEVOTEES

So during reporting and dharma samiiksa etc, and in various
circumstances, Baba would tell that, 'A flying buffalo has told me...'.
This was His charming & sweet way of telling us that He is always with us.
In countless reportings He did like this.

By this expression, we are to understand that we are not alone and that
we cannot do anything in hidden or secret. We should always think that
He is watching. Through this approach, then the sadhaka will become pure
and sanctified as one will not indulge in negative things because they
will think that Baba is always watching.

And certainly, if one cultivates this habit and thinks that Baba is
always watching, then their real spiritual life starts. Furthermore,
when they start thinking in this manner all the 24 hrs, then they are
established in Brahmahood. In that stage they cannot do anything wrong.

Verily this entire process is one practical way of doing second lesson.
This process is also used in dhyana as well. Because a devotee serves
Parama Purusa then they should feel that He is watching.

                 WATCH OUT FOR AVIDYA MAYA

We know that human life is for sadhana but obstacles invariably come
from avidya maya. One or another trick of maya keeps the sadhaka blinded
and gives them the feeling that materialism is everything. And another
form of avidya maya pulls them away still further by giving them the
false notion that spirituality is meaningless and garbage. Indeed we all
have to be very careful about these two negative forms of avidya maya.

                          BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace when a sadhaka moves one step closer to Parama Purusa,
then one feels the presence of vidyamaya and inspiration comes in the
mind that, 'human life is very short and my goal is Parama Purusa and I
want Him'.

When this feeling comes then the sadhaka rushes headlong to Parama
Purusa and in a very short span reaches Him. Then only does human life
become successful. In this entire approach, Guru's grace is everything
so we should always beg for His grace. O' Lord please be gracious.

Baba says, "The greatest human treasure is devotional sentiment,
devotional wonts. This devotional wealth must be preserved; otherwise
humanity will lose its most valuable possession. The people of the
present-day world have made considerable progress, so now they must not
permit this highest human treasure to be destroyed. Whenever we see that
the pressure of external circumstances threatens this life essence, we
should pray to the Supreme: 'O Lord, please be kind enough to protect
our inner vitality from total destruction. Save us from the agony of
total loss'." (NH-LOI)

Namaskar,
Rambabu

Note 1:        UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE FLYING MESSENGER

First and foremost, it is the unquestioned truth that Parama Purusa knows everything.

And sure enough, there was one way for Baba to come forward and say, 'I
know everything'. But this He did not like to do as it sounds a bit
arrogant in this present era. In the past however, Lord Krsna did
proclaim as such because the society was ready to listen. But in this
present era, Baba chose not to say like this.

Instead, Baba opted for a more indirect approach. So He employed the use
of one 'messenger' who would tell Him everything. Sometimes that
messenger was a flying camel, or a flying buffalo, or a flying lizard
etc. There were so many animals who 'came to Baba as messengers'. This
was Baba's chosen style.

Yet internally we all know that Baba knows everything and no one really
believes that the messenger-- such as a flying camel-- is something
real. So this is not something to take literally. It is just Baba's
sweet way of telling us that He knows everything.

In the past however, people have taken things literally such as when
Veda Vyasa Deo told his stories and in turn the common people built
statues based on those tales. Obviously, this type of misunderstanding
should not occur in this present era. We should clarify the point now
that Baba was just joking and those flying camel messengers were not
real. Otherwise in the future people will take it seriously and make
statues of those flying buffaloes etc. So this dogma should not be
allowed to happen.

And it won't so long as we all know and propagate that those flying
animals were not real, just it was Baba's sweet way of telling us that
He knows everything and that always He is watching for our welfare.

                           PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Sukhe dukhe a'mi toma'y bha'loba'si, toma'r tare ka'ndi ha'si..."
(P.S. 2679)

Purport:

Baba, in both my pleasure and pain I love You. I cry as well as laugh
for You. My entire existence is revolving around You. You are my
everything. You are the jewel of my heart-- the most precious and
attractive thing. In my mental sky You are the only shining Entity, like
the full moon. You are my everything.
Baba, I do not know since which hoary past You came in my life. And
when You made everything effulgent. You created this world and since the
dawn of this creation You are. Since that time the divine effulgence is
still shining as it is--unchanged. It did not become faint. It does not
obey the time factor. It is eternal.
Baba, You are One but You are expressing Yourself in infinite ways.
You are that Singular Entity but also You have created many. This whole
creation is also Your form. So You are always playing Your divine liila
with this world which You have created. This divine liila is a mix of
darkness and effulgence. By this way and with the attraction of Your
love, sometimes You keep me close and sometimes You keep Yourself at a
distance.
Baba I am singing Your name and keeping Your warm feeling in my
heart-- all the time, day and night. 24hrs. It is Your grace...

Lord says, "And what is discipline? The Sam'skrta term for `discipline'
is 'anusha'sanam'. And what is anusha'sanam? `Hita'rthe sha'sanam

spirit of welfare, with the spirit of development, it is called
'anusha'sanam' in Sam'skrta. There is no corresponding English word."

Baba

"Kato je d'eke gechi toma're, shon'o ni, tumi a'sa ni..." (Prabhata Samgiita #2207)

Purport:

Baba, I have so much longing for You. With that feeling I go on calling You. But neither do You listen to my call, nor do You come close.

Although they say that You listen to the feeling of the mind. That You listen to all the thought waves which sprout in the mind, because You are sitting right there in the mind. Although they say like that, to me it seems like You are not residing in the mind. You are not there. That's why You do not understand the feeling of longing which I have for You.

I do not know whether You do not have capacity to listen to my feeling, or whether You listen to my feeling of the mind but knowingly You do not respond. This is Your divine play. But this divine play of Yours is very painful for me. You are giving me pain by not caring about my longing. It may be possible that my cry reaches to Your ears, but it does not touch Your mind. That's why You do not give any response.

Baba, please tell me that except You who is mine? You know nobody is mine, that's why I open my heart to You.

Many tales which up till now I did not tell You, those feelings of my heart I will tell You. Baba, I have so much longing and yearning for You. Why are You not listening. Please pay heed to my call and come close...

== HANDLING OF BABA'S DMC DISCOURSES ==

Namaskar,
As we all know in DMC Baba would often speak in three languages. Nearly all the DMC discourses are like that. For accurate depiction of these historic and dharmic discourses, then various steps can be taken. And about this very matter various acaryas and margiis have gathered and the  following are a couple of the top suggestions and recommendations which they have given.

SOME POINTS ABOUT TRANSCRIBING HIS DISCOURSES

1. When transcribing or printing Baba's DMC discourses then each and every word must get printed. But not only that, it should be indicated throughout the printed discourse in which language Baba is speaking. Because we know it was Baba's normal manner that in DMC discourses He would rotate from Hindi to Bangla to English, though not necessarily in that order.

So just as in the general darshans when Baba is mostly using only one of the languages then the discourse is marked as being from that particular language, such as English or Hindi etc. Likewise when Baba is delivering His DMC discourses then all along our transcription should be marked in italics or in some other distinguishing manner in which language Baba is speaking for each particular section.

By this way it will provide one excellent historical and linguistic record of exactly what way Baba has spoken. And it will also allow the transcriptions to be more accurate and ethically honest renditions of Baba's discourse-- as it will print each and every word. Thus if the book is in English then the entire printed version of that DMC discourse will be in English, but step by step it will indicate which of the languages Baba was speaking in.

So that way the reader will know which is Baba's actual word and which is a translation from one of the other languages. And no matter which languages the book is written in-- whether it be German, Bengali, Chinese, Tegalo etc-- all the while it will indicate what language Baba was using throughout His discourse. And by this way we will have one accurate and highly indicative version of Baba's discourse.

Of course thus far this has not been done. Rather there is no way for the reader to know which is which and what is what when reading Baba's DMC discourses. And not only that but in their present way of dealing much of the content of Baba's talk is left our altogether-- i.e. it is not included at all. And the only way to know what was the original language of a particular section of the discourse is to have the audio cassette itself. Otherwise there is no way to know.

NOT MERE REPETITION FROM ONE LANGUAGE TO THE NEXT

2. Another reason for printing the whole, entire transcription of Baba's discourse is because during His speech Baba did not merely repeat Himself when switching over from one language to the next. That means those same ideas were not rote translations from one language to another and then spoken by Baba. That was not His approach. Rather in newer and newer ways Baba was unfolding the subject matter according to the knowledge, cultural understanding and spiritual feeling of the devotees of that particular linguistic background, as well as according to the strengths and limitations of each language.

So in that way Baba's explanation is more colourful, interesting, and lucid for the audience. And thus even though many people attending those DMCs knew all three languages-- Hindi, Bangla, & English-- they never got bored by listening to Baba's talk. Because Baba's style of expression, use of examples, and way of talking and introducing the topic would vary considerably from one language to another. Of course the topic and the theme were consistent throughout, but according to the aforementioned variables, Baba's style of speaking and way of expression was unique and would vary widely throughout His entire discourse. Hence there is much to be gained by printing the entire transcription of Baba's DMC discourses.

But up till now this is not at all being done. Rather only small sections are being taken from each and mixed together or only 1 language was taken, i.e. Bengali, and everything that Baba spoke in Hindi and English was discarded entirely, when in fact what Baba told in those languages was not mere repetition of the Bengali section.

Yet when we know that Guru's word is mantra then everything should be included. Strict attention should be given to perfectly transcribe each and every syllable.

ONE STORY REGARDING OUR SCRIPTURE

(b) With regards to the discourse titled "Macrocosmic Conation And Microcosmic Urge" from the Ananda Purnima 1985 DMC, there is one story to tell.

Not long back I was searching that discourse for many reasons-- one being that I personally attended that DMC discourse in May '85-- and finally I found the contents of the discourse in one of our Subhasita Samgraha books. But there was  no date or place marked along with it. Those key points were missing. Some of the contents of that discourse were printed in that SS-24 book. But by seeing it there nobody can identify what it is. Because the publisher did not print that this belongs to that DMC of May 1985. Means the date and place and all specifics about the discourse are missing from the SS-24 publication.

However by Baba's grace from my diary I confirmed that this is indeed the discourse from that DMC of 26 May 1985 when Baba delivered His discourse, "Macrocosmic Conation And Microcosmic Urge".

But there is one other serious point. Namely that what actually got printed in the SS-24 book is just one very small fraction of the discourse. Most of the discourse is missing, entirely gone. Because in actuality, Baba Himself took about 35 minutes to deliver that very discourse on that very day of 26 May 1985. Thus He spoke for more than half-an-hour. But what is printed in the book SS-24 is the material of maximum 5-7 minutes worth of talk-- or even less than that. So most of Baba's discourse from that 1985 Ananda Purnima DMC is missing from the Subhasita Samgraha book. So that is the situation about this.

Overall then a few critical points are there. One is that the discourse is not properly brought into printed form-- it is just a fraction of the discourse. And second, the place and date are not mentioned. Nor is it mentioned whether this is a DMC discourse or not. All these important matters are gone regarding Baba's historic annual DMC discourse of May 1985.

NOW AND FOR THE FUTURE

Guru's things are important. So if the scripture is left like that this then that is a very delicate and sensitive affair-- the door will be wide open for adulteration. So we will have to be vigilant. Please write your opinion.

BABA'S BLESSING

Here following is Baba's blessing for making one human society.

Baba says, "You will have to build a society in which no one is forced to weep, where everyone smiles joyfully all the time and gets ample scope for laughter. Seeing such mirth and merriment, Parama Purusa will feel immensely pleased. By giving joy to Parama Purusa you will feel even more joyful and will feel His close proximity. This is the actual social code...You should all move along this path - you are sure to meet with success." (AV-4)

Namaskar,
Indrajit

Note 1: ABOUT THOSE IN CHARGE OF THE SCRIPTURES

Baba says, "The scriptures containing spiritual injunctions must be totally flawless. And the pioneering personality must be a strict and benevolent guardian with unyielding conviction." (NSS p.200, Edn 1995)

Here above, by pioneering personality Baba is referring to all those margiis and Wts who have the feeling in the core of their heart to watch over and safeguard Baba's timeless words.

Note 2: WHERE ARE THOSE DMC DISCOURSES

And as we know usually all the DMC discourses are collected and printed in the Subhasita Samgraha series. So if anyone is fluent in Hindi, Bangla, and English then they can see that "all" the DMC discourses from 1955-90 have been published in the Subhasita Samgraha series. Some of the DMC discourses prior to 1970 may be exceptions to the rule in this regard. But for the post 1970 period, in some way, shape, or form those DMS discourses are printed in Subhasita Samgraha books.

Note 3: RECOLLECTION ABOUT ATTENDING DMC

Of course for we Ananda Margiis, DMC is one very significant thing where Baba gives Varabhaya Mudra. And Margiis go to attend and get His blessing. In addition, most of the time people like to write down the discourse name which they can later refer to and type. Because recording the discourse on audio tape was not permitted those days.

Note 4: WHAT ABOUT HIS GENERAL DARSHANS

When there is this type of negligence has occurred with Baba's historic DMC discourses then you can imagine what is the condition of Baba's other DMC discourses, what to speak of all those General Darshan discourses that Baba has delivered.

Note 5: ALL ARE NOT IN ONE LANGUAGE

Subhasita Samgraha parts 1-24 are not available in any single language. Some are in Hindi, and some are in Bangla, and some are only in English print. But between the Hindi and English editions, that is enough to cover all the parts of the Subhasita Samgraha series. But some parts are only available in one language. Just like parts 21 and 24 of the Subhasita Samgraha Series are not available in the other two languages, only English.

Note 6: CURRENT SCENE

With regards to this whole issue of scripture, on the top margiis do not have access to the cassettes of all the discourses and the second thing is that margiis are not being provided the books. And in the midst of all this now those at the helm are involved in group and clan clashes like primitive people. So this whole chaotic situation is occurring because of lack of awareness of the grand ideology which has been given by Baba.

Note 7: ALL HIS DISCOURSES MUST BE PRINTED

So it is our request that bringing out Baba's discourses in printed form should be given utmost importance.

Far Reaching Effect

Baba says, "In the world today a handful of people who do no physical work, but live by their wits, have appropriated to themselves most of the wealth of  umanity, so they are able to buy comparatively expensive foods, and use them to satisfy their taste buds. As result, they, on the one hand, swell their unnecessary fat, while, on the other hand, those people doing hard manual labour are forced to live in poverty and deprived of the ghee, butter and sweets they need to maintain their bodies; they have nothing to compensate properly the energy they expend, and they become weak, emaciated and broken in health. On account of malnutrition and excessive hard labour, they fall victim to tuberculosis." (YT, p. 82-83)

Baba

== GAUGE YOUR DEVOTION ==

Namaskar,
In His historic March 1984 DMC discourse in Varanasi, published in
Subhasita Samgraha part 17 Hindi edition, Baba has given a very clear
cut equation that every sadhaka should know.

THREE STAGES OF DEVOTION

Baba clearly and succinctly outlines three stages of devotion.

1. "I exist and God also exists."

In this first stage of devotion, people think of themselves first. They
feel, "I am present and my Lord is also present." The key point being
that they consider their own existence first.

With the regular practice of sadhana and doing social service, the mind
comes in closer proximity to Parama Purusa. By this way love and
affection is generated for the Supreme, by His grace. Then one thinks
more about Parama Purusa and less about oneself

It is just like how a mother thinks more about her infant than about her
own self. This happens when there is a strong bond of love - otherwise
not. Otherwise that "love" remains in theory only.

With sadhana, the feeling of devotion arises spontaneously within. With
such feelings, Parama Purusa comes closer - otherwise not. At that
stage, people think very often of Parama Purusa in a very natural way,
without any logical imposition.

The central idea of this feeling is exemplified by the second stage of
devotion.

2. "God exists and I also exist."

In the final stage, when a sadhaka is in deep meditation or samadhi,
then that sadhaka forgets about himself entirely. The I-feeling is
totally lost; one is oblivious of their own existence. Then only the
thought of Parama Purusa remains. That is the highest state of devotion.

3. "Only God exists."'

In the above three levels of devotion, the presence of God (i.e. Baba)
is the essential component.

IT ALL STARTS WITH BHAKTI

As we know, bhakti means service to Baba.

Bhaktir bhagavata seva

God's presence is essential. So when God / Baba has died (i.e.
Mahaprayan) then seva is not possible.

If one imposes the idea of Mahaprayan, the great departure, then
devotion is itself impossible. This is not at all difficult to understand.

We should all aim to understand this important aspect of devotional life
and read the discourse, "What is Bhakti."

Namaskar,
Vidyasagar
