Namaskar,
These days there is a beauty competition going on amongst certain Dadas and Didis.  Let's see how far this type of thing has been approved by Baba.


WHY THE NEED TO PHYSICALLY BEAUTIFY ONESELF

The use of cosmetics amongst our wholetime workers has increased exponentially in recent years. Of course, prior to 1990, no worker would dare use cosmetics or perfumes etc. Indeed, no one felt the need to use beauty products as everyone was deeply involved in manifesting Baba's teachings.

Unfortunately, now a number of workers - both Dadas and Didis - are resorting to these beauty products. It seems they have been affected by today's grossly materialistic values.

The question naturally arises: Why do some feel the need to beautify their faces? What is the psychic cause. We will address this question and more in this letter.


ALL COME FROM ANIMAL LIFE

Every human being - every human mind - has evolved from animal life and those animalistic samskaras are still present in the human personality, to some or more degree.

The human personality is tri-fold: Physical, psychic and spiritual.

Some fall prey to the psychic ailment known as self-aggrandizement or gaorava. This is when people feel a need to present themselves as being bigger or better than what they truly are.

Baba says, "Gaorava is the second type of aham'ka'ra [ego]. It means “self-aggrandizement”. Puffed up with vanity, a person will want to project his image in an exaggerated manner. Often we hear somebody say, for example, that they have a rose  he size of a balloon in their garden – whereas actually the rose may be the size of a ping-pong ball. Constant indulgence in this type of activity converts the mind into matter."

"We have seen bulls moving about in the streets with an air of arrogance. Such a bull creates a sound expressing the idea that it is big – Ham bar'a'. But when the bull dies and ta'nt [vina string] is made out of its intestines and musicians start playing on it, the sound which is then emitted expresses the idea Tun bar'a' – meaning thereby that the bull realizes that others are big, and realizes that he has arrived at this condition because of his arrogance."

"In fact the inculcation of gaorava leads one to the worst hell. Just as there are six layers, or lokas, of the Cosmic Mind above the crude world, so are there six types of hell, six narakas, below the physical world. The names of these hells are tala, atala, tala'tala, pa'ta'la, atipa'ta'la and rasa'tala. Another term for rasa'tala is raorava naraka – and a person indulging in gaorava will certainly go to raorava [crudest state of mind]." (Ananda Vacanamrtam-23)

Baba says, "The seventh hell is rasa'tala, the very crudest of all stages of existence. Obviously in that state human beings are no longer human beings: their minds, their intellects are reduced to extreme crudity, a stage of no return. Similarly when people start becoming degraded, a stage comes when they can no longer elevate themselves;
rasa'tala is such a state." (Ananda Marga Ideology and Way Life-11)

Why does this happen? This happens when the mind is not focused on Parama Purusa, but on one's own unit ego. Gaorava then is a defect in mind which may express itself physically and psychically.

To take advantage of this mental ailment, capitalists exploit this weakness by marketing more and more beauty products. It is a multi-billion dollar industry. Because of their psychic ailment, people easily get scooped up into this capitalist trap and spend huge money on cosmetics, beauty aids, perfume, cosmetic surgery, etc.

Decades ago it was unheard of for our Wts to get pulled in this direction, but tragically nowadays some of our workers have gotten trapped just like the common public. That is the main problem: Some Wts now use beauty products. Essentially it is a psychic problem that needs to be addressed.


WHY THEY FALL IN THIS TRAP

Why do people fall in that trap of gaorava or self-aggrandizement?

The first reason is that all come from animal life and fall prey to certain lower expressions of mind. This has been described up above.

Secondly, the trend of the general society is towards materialism. That means people are involved in their own external beauty and wish to project themselves as being something great, i.e. superior to who they are. This is all due to their materialistic way of living.

When general flow of society is towards materialism then the mass of people fall in that trap. They get caught in things like self-beautification and self-glorification. Then we know they have fallen into gaorava marga (path of hell) and lost their Goal.


MUST BE CAREFUL

Indulging in gaorava (self-aggrandizement) means falling onto the path of negative pratisaincara. Why? Because the person is not focusing their mind towards Ista, i.e. Parama Purusa. Instead they are just involved in their own personal ego. In that case the mind will become smaller and smaller and gradually they will not be a normal human being. They will become degraded.

What to say of mukti and moksa, such a person is sinking deep into the clutches of animal life. Why? Because the goal was just their own unit self - i.e. not Parama Purusa but their own little ego. In that case they are sure to degrade. Hence the path of gaorava is a very dangerous path.


ATTRACTING THE OPPOSITE SEX

Another reason behind the use of beauty products is the crude, tamasik desire to attract the opposite sex. That is also one of the expressions of gaorava.

If any Wt, either male or female, is doing this they are in the wrong place. They should just throw away their dress and choose a different way of life. They should not pollute our Ananda Marga.

Entering Wt life means focusing on Parama Purusa not the opposite sex. So if any worker is using cosmetics with the goal of attracting the opposite sex, their situation is akin to some drug addict that walked into one of our AM jagrtis.

Hence if any worker has gotten confused or led astray and fallen into this trap they should wake up and realise that this is not the path. The goal of a wt is not the opposite sex - it is Parama Purusa.


HOW DO WE KNOW THIS COMPETITION IS GOING ON IN AM

It is true that usually our AM competitions occur in seminars and DMS, dharma maha sammelan. At such venues we hold tandava competitions, kaoshikii competitions, and prizes are awarded for the best social service projects also.

So some may be asking where does the Wt beauty competition fit in.

And the answer is that the Wt beauty competition is an unspoken competition. They do not talk openly about it, but in a silent manner many workers are competing and taking note of one another. They apply all kinds of chemicals and tonics to their face and hair to look their best - and hope others notice. Various Didis do this and some Dadas too.

They talk about their beauty secrets with their friends but not openly in public because such things not openly supported in AM. So if you raise the point and say, "Oh Dadaji, you look so stunning and shiny today, what is your secret?", then Dadaji will not tell all the various cosmetics that he is using. He will simply say, "Sixteen Points". But internally he will be thinking that his fake beauty chemicals are very good.

So the only way to know if xyz Didi or Dada is involved in using beauty aids and cosmetics is to check their bags. There you may find an entire case full of their beauty essentials such as: Dyes, creams, and all kinds of superficial beauty things.

Here Baba clearly guides us that this pursuit of physical beauty is nothing but to fall prey to negative microvita - kinnara.

Baba says, "Kinnara microvita is that category of microvita which creates a thirst for beauty – a strong desire for beautification and decoration. The word kinnara means “receptacle of beauty” or “a beautiful and graceful structure”. This category of microvita creates a tendency in the human mind to make the human body as beautiful as the many forms and figures it observes in the external world. This tendency or propensity is called “kinnari vrtti”. If the kinnaras direct the mind towards crude matter instead of leading it towards the subtler layers, they are considered to be enemy microvita or negative microvita." (Microvita in a Nutshell, Crude and Subtle Microvita)


WT CONDUCT RULES:

BABA OPPOSES SUCH COSMETIC BEAUTY AIDS


However Baba does not support the use of all these fake beauty ointments etc by our Wts.

Baba says, "...Artificially perfumed things should not be used." (32 Rules for Avadhuta, pt #12)

Baba says, "Perfumed oil should not be used" (32 Rules for Avadhuta, pt #3)

Baba says, "Any medicated soap, but not cosmetic or perfumed, should be used" (32 Rules for Avadhuta, pt #8)

Baba says, "...Avadhuta shall not...use any article which is artificially scented, (32 Rules for Avadhuta, pt #32)

Thus it is quite clear that in various ways Baba wholly condemns the use of fake beauty paraphernalia. No Didi or Dada is to use such beauty aids.

Naturally, since it is detrimental to one's spiritual progress, sincere margiis and devotees do not feel comfortable using cosmetic beauty products because the goal of life is Parama Purusa - not superficial looks.

Finally, we should all keep in mind that females are more prone to use such cosmetics. That is a fact. The proof being that the entire beauty industry is directed towards females. But these days more males have begun this game as well.


JUST TRYING TO COPY THE GREAT SAGES

Amongst our Wt ranks, such participants want to make their face shine so they look more vibrated and attractive - as if they are on the doorstep of moksa.

Everyone knows that all truly great personalities - those rishis, yogis and true sadhakas - have a glow or psychic lustre (ojah / ojas) because of their high spiritual attainment. Due to their sincerity in sadhana, their face changes and they naturally exude a deep sense of sentient peace and divine love. That is depicted in various images of such great
personalities. Baba has describe this in discourses like, "Pa'rthasa'rathi Krs'n'a and Aesthetic Science".

Some fake Wts want that same lustre for their own prestige. When they understood that they cannot get it naturally because they are not involved in sadhana, they began to arrange it artificially. By this way they could (try and) befool others that they are great.

All the while one should remember: Focusing on oneself, i.e. one's own greatness, leads to degeneration. And that is what happened to some of our workers.


OUR DUTY

Now it is the duty of every disciple of Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji to watch and see if anyone is choosing this wrong path of raorava marga, i.e. seventh hell. We should try to protect them by pointing them out.

Baba says, "All Ananda Margis, when they see other Margis acting against the principles of yama and niyama, must make them shun this habit either by sweet or harsh words or by dealing even more strictly." (A Guide to Human Conduct)

Thus it is our duty to open the eyes of those involved in this fake beauty competition. If we do not wake them from their stupor, they will continue to fall deeper into the dungeon of materialism.

Baba says, "It is the innate characteristic of the human mind to become as it thinks – Ya'drshii bha'vana' yasya siddhirbhavati ta'drshii [“As you think, so you become.”]" (AV-4)

Thus those who are just thinking about their own so-called beauty are bound to fall and ruin themselves. We should help them climb back onto the path of spirituality and think of Baba. Then they will truly become great.

Baba says, "To associate oneself with Parama Purus'a, the Supreme Entity, is the actual sa'dhana'. There is no one greater than Parama Purus'a, and so, when the mind ideates on Him, it expands." (Ananda Vacanamrtam-4)


BABA'S BLESSING

The concluding idea is that in our AM way of life there is no room for beauty products for physical "enhancement", psychic bragging, or fake spirituality. All these are highly detrimental - especially so when our Wts are involved. That sets a bad example for the society.

By Baba's grace we should all think of Him and not get drowned by the lowly ways of self-aggrandizement and self-beautification etc. We should not become the selected pawns of the capitalist beauty industry.

Baba says, "An inflated ego is like drinking wine, self-aggrandizement leads one into the deepest hell, and social status is like the excrement of a pig. Give up all three of these and only sing the glories of the Lord." (Ananda Vacanamrtam-23)

O' karunamaya, what type of divine play do You do with me. What type of liila do You go on playing with this unit entity. How can this divine play between unit and cosmic continue without Your grace. Baba, You are everything, only by Your grace is anything possible...

In Old Age

Baba says, "Over the age of fifty both the body and the mind start their decline. The power of memory diminishes and people start to forget things. This is the rule. But through the practice of vista'ra sadhana, this decline checks. Even an eighty year old person is able to keep the memory as fresh as a twenty five year old person. In the mental sphere, the result may be much more evident than in the physical sphere. Normally people hear, learn, and forget. But by the practice of sadhana, when the nerve cells get strengthened, dhruva smrti comes. Then one does not forget easily. In exactly the same way, by the dint of higher spiritual practice, one can bring about the expansion of oneself...Human beings become omniscient, become one with Parama Purusa. Nothing is impossible through the practice of sadhana." (Discourse on Krsna and the Giita)

Namaskar,
By following Baba's divine system of spiritual life-- doing sadhana, adhering to 16 Pts etc-- then one will invariably progress along the spiritual path. This we all know.

Yet, side by side, Baba has issued a strict warning that one must not be careful not to develop any vanity or superiority complex about their spiritual development. One must not start thinking that they themselves are something great and others are low. This type of ego will create huge problems for an aspirant.


NOT UNCOMMON IN THE MARGA

At times, however, we have all seen this happen with margiis and wts alike. Some wts may think that they are are very great and better than margiis; likewise margiis may think that they are higher than non-margiis. This is not an unheard of phenomenon. Certainly we have all witnessed this at one time or another in AM.

However, this is not at all good, rather it is quite harmful.

Should such a complex befall any sadhaka, then their progress will be blocked-- they will not be able to reach the main goal of life and they will instead be converted into microvita. That is Baba's warning. Such sadhakas will float around the universe in that bodyless form for ions and ions-- all because they could not get Parama Purusa due to their pride and vanity.


BABA'S CLEAR-CUT WARNING:

EGOTISTICAL SADHAKAS GET CONVERTED INTO MICROVITA

As margiis, as acaryas, we should all pay heed to Baba's below warning.

Baba says, "The last type of devayoni is the siddha. Suppose a person practices spiritual science with deep sincerity – his only goal being to serve humanity and attain Brahma. But if he treads the spiritual path with a sense of vanity, feeling superior to common people, he too will become a devayoni [bodyless microvita] after death. Had he controlled his vanity, Parama Purus'a would have helped him to exhaust his remaining sam'skaras. But if he indulges in vanity Hari (when Parama Purus'a steals others sam'skaras he is called Hari) will not steal it. His sins may be pardoned, but not his vanity. One of the names of Narayana is Darpaha'ri or destroyer of vanity (and that destruction may be laborious and painful). Narayana takes away an individual’s unburned sam'skaras, but if one basks in the glory of being a spiritual practitioner one will have to become a siddha devayoni after death." (APH-6, 'Ekendriya-1')

Per Baba's above teaching, if any sadhaka falls prey to feelings of vanity, then Parama Purusa will not accept them into His divine kingdom. Such ego He will not tolerate. He may excuse one's wrongdoing and take away their sins, by His grace. But He will not overlook any superiority complex. He will not accept an egotistical sadhaka onto His lap. That is
His mandate.

So we should all pay heed. We should not allow such a calamity to befall ourselves, nor anyone else.


MARGIIS AND ACARYAS BEWARE

Here the whole point is that if anyone thinks that they are great because they sit for long sadhana, or if they are feeling better than others because they are strict in 16 Points, or if one is pushing others down because 'they are not as dedicated as I am', then they will ruin their career. All these types of feelings and actions-- and others like them-- will keep a sadhaka miles away from their cherished Goal, as they will be converted into microvita and they will wander the universe for centuries in that lonely state.

All because Baba does not pardon one for feelings of vanity.

So none should internally think they are great because they established such & such service project, nor should one think they are high because they wrote a book, nor for any reason should one believe they are better than others, lest they be converted into microvita for ages and ages.


WHAT IS ONE TO THINK:

'ALL CREDIT IS DUE TO HIM'


So then what is one to think, how is one to reconcile their development & spiritual achievement.

It is true that by following His moral and spiritual guidelines that one will become more elevated etc. That is what it means to follow the path of Ananda Marga. But one should not think therefore that they are great. Because ultimately it is He who allows us to advance. It is His grace that is behind our progress, not our own unit efforts.

Baba says, "Can human beings claim any credit for the attainment of the Supreme Entity? Sa'dhakas can be likened to businessmen who conduct their affairs with others’ capital. They have acquired the epithet sa'dhaka, but actually the power of sa'dhana' has been bestowed upon them by Parama Purus'a. Probe deeply into all spiritual knowledge and you will see only Him. It is He who provides you with the intellect and strength to do sa'dhana'." (Ananda Marga Ideology & Way of Life, part 6)

Baba says, "The duty of human beings is only to continue their efforts to please Parama Purusa. Thus when any work is done, the concerning sadhaka is not to be given any credit; the credit should be given to Parama Purus'a." (Subhasita Samgraha, part 18, p.7)

So the only way to escape from becoming vain and egotistical is to realise the divine truth that His grace is the cause of our forward movement. And even if one has not realised this truth, then at the very least one should cultivate this idea in their mind. That way, day by day, one will really feel that, 'Yes, it is His grace that He has allowed me to come onto the path of sadhana'.

And, at the same time, in the external sphere, we should feel that all are our brothers and sisters and whatever realisation we have should be used to serve His creation-- for the welfare of others. The more we progress in sadhana the more responsible we are for working for other's growth and development.

By this dual approach of thinking that all is His grace and working for everyones's upliftment, then it is sure that crude feelings of vanity will not creep into our mental plate. They we will not be prone to thinking, 'I am better than others' etc.

In that case we will not suffer the unenviable, if not horrific fate, of becoming microvita for thousands and thousands of years.


BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace, as Ananda Margiis we will realise Him in this very life. The more we think it is His grace that is propelling us forward-- and not our own talents or efforts-- the more it is sure we will reach our destiny unto His divine lap.

Baba says, "This momentum towards the Supreme One becomes easy and smooth, when unit entities realize that He always wants to get them back on His lap. His desire to bring them to Himself is simply His grace." (Subhasita Samgraha-2)

Baba says, "Through His grace the living beings become absorbed in thoughts of Him and attain Him." (Subhasita Samgraha-1)

Note 1: ABOUT THE NAME, 'DEVAYONI'

None should think that the term 'devyoni' is something high etc-- all it is is a body-less being or microvita. The term devayoni has been given in the same way that one might address a gang leader as Mister or Sir. Because people are fearful of gangleaders so they address them in a respectful manner. Similarly, people are scared of body-less souls so they have given the name devayoni as a matter of appeal-- they did not want to use a lesser type of name or bad name. This is the long standing tradition amongst the people of India, and that is why body-less beings-- i.e. microvita-- are respectfully referred to as devayonis.

O' my dearmost Baba, I am crying in yearning and longing for You. Baba, by Your grace I have so much love for You-- I want Your close proximity. Yet You are not paying heed to my call. Baba, do You feel happy by seeing me cry. Why like this-- what sort of bliss do You get by seeing me weep?

Baba, don't You like to see a face which is beaming with happiness and filled with smiles. Baba, Your and my intimate relation & sweet-loving feeling did not begin only one or two ages ago; rather it has been going on since before time began. Baba by Your grace You constantly keep me in Your divine shelter. Baba, since the very bosom of eternity You are gently taking me up to infinity. From the very dawn You remain along with me throughout the entire journey-- up to infinity, up to the ultimate abode. Baba by Your divine grace You are always keeping me at Your lotus feet.

O' Parama Purusa, O' Dayamay, O' Merciful One, by Your grace I know You. In the grand play & expression of Your divine liila, You are inexhaustible. Always You are creating newer and more new forms and shapes. Baba, You go on playing Your liila endlessly. Baba, this eternal play that You are making with me is a mix of two things. Sometimes You make me laugh and sometimes You make me cry. This You do knowingly-- by this way You bring me closer and closer to You. O' my dearmost Baba, please be gracious and come close to me.

O' Divine Being, You are Love Personified...

Sadhana Point- 1st Lesson

Baba says, "In Japakriya' there is only acoustic rhythm as I have told you about acoustic rhythm Ra'ma, Ra'ma, Ra'ma, Ra'ma. But in Pran'idha'na this acoustic rhythm maintains parallelism with mental rhythm i.e., mentally you will be saying
Ra'ma, Ra'ma, Ra'ma, there should be acoustic rhythm Ra'ma,Ra'ma. Ra'ma like this and mentally you will be thinking of Ra'ma also i.e., the parallelism is to be maintained, otherwise in Japakriya' where there is no parallelism what does happen; while you are uttering the word Ra'ma, Ra'ma (Parama Purusa) as you are chanting the word 'Ra', letter 'Ra' you are thinking of the next letter 'Ma.' Ra'ma! Again while uttering the letter 'Ma' you are thinking of the letter 'Ra'. Next 'Ra' and then in second stage of Japa, 'Ra'. In that case your Mantra will be 'Mara' (death) you are uttering the letter 'Ma' and thinking of the latter 'Ra', so your Is't'a Mantra becomes 'Mara' (death) and not 'Ra'ma' (Parama Purusa). So it is useless to do that type of Japakriya'. Unless and until there is a parallelism with the mental wave it is useless and where there is parallelism between acoustic rhythm and mental rhythm it is called Pranidha'na. In Ananda Marga your Iishvara Pra'nidha'na is not japakriya'; it is called Pran'idha'na. Pran'idha'na comes within the scope of Dhya'na and not within the scope of japa. Do you follow?"

PS Intro: This song symbolizes the holy advent of Mahasambhuti. When He comes He infuses His divine vibration throughout each and every pore of this expressed universe-- in which case everything blossoms into something positive.    

In this present era, the divine vibrational wave which Baba has emanated through His varabhaya and januspharsha mudras is transforming everything. Now we are witnessing the divine results of this across the entire planet. Everyone's whole way of thinking is changing from dogma-centered to God-centered. People are becoming neo-humanistic. This below song represents the grand idea that when Taraka Brahma comes then there is a holistic shift of consciousness. Negative people become afraid and good people rise up courageously and become firm on the path of dharma. This type of grand transformation is taking place right now, by Baba's grace.  O' Nataraj, O' Lord, after ages and ages You have come today. It is Your grace. O' Dhurjat'i, Your matted locks are dancing so beautifully. In all the three lokas, in the three realms, the demons are fearful and panic-stricken.

 O' Divine Entity, by Your grace You have transformed everyone. Those who were sleeping, those downtrodden who were neglected and humiliated in the world, those without respect or recognition in the society, and those humans who were feeling defeated and sunk in woe-- they have all become awakened due to Your auspicious advent. By Your grace their drowsiness has been smashed. They have gotten new life. Now they are full of happiness and joy. O' Lord, You are so gracious.   

O' Divine Entity, Your drum, bugle, and horn are resonating all around. In all the ten directions and across the entire horizon, Your victory call is resounding. O' Prabhu, the feeling of dharma has been aroused among all. Everyone has understood what is vice and what is virtue-- what is dogma and what is rationality. By Your grace the people have experienced a shift of consciousness. Their outlook has become dharmic and spiritual. O' my Lord, by Your grace the eclipse of the moon has been removed. Now the darkness is gone. You have made everything positive.
   
O Lord, You have done everything for us; I do sastaunga pranam at Your alter...

In the various religions, they believe in their chosen God, and, side by side, they believe in the existence of Satan, i.e. an equally, all-powerful evil entity. In their view, Satan is as powerful as their God and involves only in negative dealings.

In our Ananda Marga it is not like that. In our system, there is only one, singular, all-powerful Divine Entity. Parama Purusa is the controller of everything; there is no Satan or all-powerful Evil-doer. Parama Purusa controls both vidya maya and avidya maya. Everything comes within His domain. That is what Baba describes in His below teaching.

Baba says, "“Kevalaḿ jiṋánamurttim”. What is the meaning of “kevalam”? “Kevalam” means “the only entity”, the “non-dualistic entity”. That is, in His realm, in His jurisdiction, there is no second, external entity. There is no scope for any Satan to be there, that is, there is no Satan. He is everything. He plays with His vidyámáyá and avidyámáyá. That is kevalam. Kevalam means “the only entity”, “the only existence”. And when one becomes one with Him, one is said to be ensconced in “kaevalya”. Kaevalya means “nirvikalpa samádhi”. That is when one acquires kevala-hood, that is kaevalya." (Ananda Vacanamrtam, part 3, Guru Pranama)

According to the perspective of Ananda Marga, Parama Purusa is the only all-powerful  Entity. There is no #2 force such as Satan. Everything - good and bad - is controlled perfectly by Parama Purusa.



TWO UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES IN AM

There are some in AM who think that microvita interferes with each and every action - as if nothing can be done without the approval or support of microvita. They think that microvita imposes its will on the life of each and every sadhaka.

Taking it even one step further, some think that they even can be cursed or tortured by negative microvita. For them, negative microvita acts as a type of Satan.

So there are two distinct views:

1) Some jinana oriented sadhakas feel that microvita helps, interferes, and harms people in all kinds of ways. They attribute everything to microvita - either positive microvita or negative microvita.

2) Then there are bhaktas who feel that Parama Purusa is doing everything. They think that there is no intermediary force between themselves and Parama Purusa. He is the sole controller and everything is His liila. Such bhaktas feel that only His grace is needed; there is no need for the support of microvita.



ANANDA MARGA ATTRACTS EVERYONE

In AM, there are all types of sadhakas; people of all walks of life enter the Marga. That is why Baba has given a diverse range of teachings to attract people with all kinds of interests. Some are attracted to certain aspects of Baba's teachings and others are interested in different aspects of our AM way of life. It all depends on one's mindset.

For instance, some like to study abstruse elements of AM philosophy like the book "Idea & Ideology", while others are more interested in doing kiirtan, bhajans, and sadhana. Thus some are attracted towards the more challenging parts of AM ideology while others have almost no interest in philosophy and spend their time in social service and devotional pursuits.

In our human society there are people in all stages of human evolution, and Ananda Marga ideology covers this entire range. In a phrase, there is something for everyone.

For those who have great interest in microvita theory and other difficult topics, then they may view everything according to the existence of microvita - but they should be careful not to start viewing negative microvita as a type of Satan. And for those who are more inclined towards simple, devotional concepts, Baba has told them that microvita is nothing.


BABA'S SPECIAL TEACHING ON MICROVITA

Indeed that is why in His discourse 1988 discourse, Propensities and Pramá, Baba spoke as follows:
हम जिसको "positive microvitum" कहते हैं, दरअसल यह क्या है जी ? यह तो परमपुरुष की कृपा है | हम तुम लोगों को हँसाने के लिए बोलते हैं "positive microvitum" |
Baba says, "That which I call "positive microvitum", in reality what is it? Nothing but the grace of Parama Purus'a. I use the term "positive microvitum" to make you laugh." (1 January 1988 DMC, Anandanagar) 

So it is very clear that for the jinanis and intellectuals of AM, they should preach the philosophy of microvita. It is a veritable science and course of study. At the same time Baba has given devotees a different outlook. Both are important and valuable.


DIFFERENT MIND-SET

Here the point is not that which way is greater or higher, and which way is worse and lower. That is not the aim of this letter. The point is that everyone should follow what best suits their own mind-set. One should act accordingly.

Baba has explained the workings of this universe in all kinds of ways to match diverse and varied mind-sets. The only point to wholly reject is the existence of Satan. No one should start mixing up negative microvita with Satan. Beyond that, all can choose an outlook expressed in Ananda Marga that appeals to them.

It is the same as how some may be excited to join VSS whereas others dislike VSS and prefer HPMG, where they can sing bhajans, kiirtan and perform social service in that manner.

Indeed, Baba has given all kinds of social service activities and projects. Some like one way and some like another way. The central idea is that according to one's mindset one should proceed.



BABA'S BLESSING

At the same time we should all keep in mind that Baba is the controller of all microvita. His divine grace is everything.

Baba says, "This has been our failing: that we neglected the spiritual faculties of human life, we neglected the cardinal spiritual points of life. If we are interested today in the welfare of this beautiful universe, we should try more and more to accelerate the speed of spiritual progress. If the acceleration of spiritual progress becomes tremendous, then not only in the human world, but also in the physical, psychic and spiritual spheres of the entire world -- and not only of the entire animate world, but of both the animate and inanimate worlds -- there will be tremendous progress. And this is what we want. Now we are anxiously waiting for that crimson dawn on the eastern horizon." (AFPS-5)

Note: Generally people do not realise this very thing which Baba has explained above. To understand this fully it needs agraya' buddhi (pointed intellect). Only those who are blessed sadhaka can understand that sadhana is the panacea. ***************************************

In doing pracar, I came across one non-margii who had read one of our AM books and was asking me this question about Baba's use of powers. And really I did not know what to reply. That is why I brought this question to my Acarya because in the past he has always been able to help me. And what follows below is the answer my Acarya gave:


               STORY: DEMONSTRATION ABOUT NEGATIVE MICROVITA

In reporting there was one incident that I remember clearly. Baba was doing a demonstration in Tiljala about negative microvita and its effect on the human body. Sadhaka C had some bad samskaras from his past life. So Baba graciously chose him for the demonstration of negative microvita. It was explained that because of brother C's negative samskara C was going to face a serious accident in the very near future. But by the liila of this negative microvita demonstration, by Baba's unfathomable grace He took away this sadhaka's samskara and saved him from impending disaster.

(Note: In His discourse "The Neo-Ethics of Multi-Lateral Salvation", Baba declares that after all there is no such thing as microvita, everything is due to Cosmic Grace. Thus as Ananda Margiis we should clearly understand that microvita is not some special, separate force but rather a scientific name and explanation for Guru's divine grace - nothing more.)

Baba's each and every action is full of compassion and grace. Everyone of us knows this thing.

The story of this demonstration goes like this. In this demonstration first, in order to help and cure this sadhaka, Baba took away the working capacity of the organs related with Brother C's hands and feet. Brother C's body became altogether stiff and inoperational. In that case, Brother C was carefully placed in a lying down position in the demonstration room.

Then in His divine liila, Baba became very serious and inquired to others, 'Because of his negative samskara he has to face the situation. Ask him what he wants now'.

Brother C kept quiet, he did not know how to reply.

Then Baba told that, 'Ask him, does he want that his strength should return?'.

Then the brother replied, 'Yes Baba'.

Baba lovingly ordered, 'Ask him why he wants his strength back'.

The sadhaka kept quiet.

The scene was really quite dramatic. Externally it really looked like Baba was very stern but all devotees know that internally Baba was His usual Self, the personification of sweetness and love. Such is the drama of His liila.

Baba inquired, 'What is his reply. Tell me'.

The devotees present in the room were in a fix about what to say. And they were remembering that brother C was unable to move his hands and feet.

Baba told, 'If his strength is returned then what will he do with that. If he promises that he will be more involved in social service, and for that reason he needs his strength back, that is ok. But devoid of social service if he has another plan then let him face his samskara'.

Baba graciously told, 'Ask him if he has any other plan'.

Brother C said, 'No Baba, I do not have any other plan'.

Then Baba said, 'OK, My little boy needs his body otherwise how will he be able to do the work of Parama Purusa.'

Baba paused and then added, 'If my boy requests that 'Baba, I need my strength back so I can do the work of serving humanity', if he makes this promise then all his strength can be returned back'.

Immediately the sadhaka promised, 'Baba please grace me and give me my strength back so that I may dedicate myself to the cause of serving the humanity'.

Then in His divine liila, Baba touched the tip of His own stick and told to GS that, 'Now go and use this stick to touch him'.

Then GS took Baba's stick and touched disciple C with it.

Immediately brother C got his strength back. By Baba's grace, from that day on brother C has been vigorously active in social service work. That was the end of that demonstration.


                           EXPLANATION OF WHAT IT ALL MEANS

I asked Dadaji, is this Baba's use of occult powers?

Dada replied, 'No, people are confused on this very point that this is occult power, but it is not like that. Because occult power means that which is acquired through the practice of cult. For that reason, due to doing sadhana human beings get occult power. But one cannot say that Parama Purusa uses "occult power". Because He does not get that power through the practice of cult.'

'Rather, that power which He uniquely has, is His inherent quality.'

'The other thing to realise is that pseudo-gurus display occult powers to increase their own name and fame. For that reason they make rasagolla appear from the dirt etc. But this is all just avidya tantra, nothing more. In AM, Baba uses His causless grace to for the welfare of others.'

'But because we do not have any other term, that is why people sometimes call this power of Parama Purusa as occult. But it is not like that.'

Dada then continued, explaining that similar scenes as this above were common, regular practice when Baba used to point out and cure any disease by the use of positive microvita or any type of demonstration. All this was part of His liila. And everybody understood that behind all these things was His causeless grace. Always Baba was lovingly playing this type of divine liila in order to help us.

'Many margiis have such experiences in relation with their Personal Contact with Baba also. When Baba removed their negative samskaras and made them promise to 'utilise their body, mind, and existence for the great cause'.

'The sense is that ultimately Baba wanted to teach devotees that if they want their health restored, then they must pledge that their physical strength will be used for service of suffering humanity. With this promise would Baba cure the disease. By this way we all got the lesson of how to utilise our strength while living in this world.'

'This was the regular theme of Baba's different demonstrations whenever He did such things. To bless His sadhakas spiritually and help them physically.'

'Because without receiving His spiritual blessing, then nobody has the inspiration and strength to do social service in a grand way. And how one can do service if they themselves are suffering from disease. So in that way Baba blessed devotees. And in turn devotees got the teaching in what way they should utilize their lives. This then was the main theme behind His demonstrations- not the show or display of occult power for getting name, fame and prestige. Just like many crude people do.'

'Furthermore, occult means the things which are gotten via the practice of cult. But what Parama Purusa has, that is not occult. Because everything is there already in His mind. So He does not need to do the practice of cult, in order to have those things.' For Him we cannot say He has "occult powers". Nor that He "uses occult powers". Rather we should say that "Baba graced". And indeed, microvita is nothing but His grace.

After telling me this above story my Acarya asked me, 'So did you get the answer to your question?'.

I replied, 'Yes Dadaji', and I did pranam and took leave from him.

Note 1:                               IT IS NOT OCCULT POWER

One cannot say Baba has "occult power", as those very things are His inherent quality and not something acquired through the practice of cult. In the same way, some say that Baba is "knowing" all the things. But He is not "knowing". Because everything is already there, in His mind. As He created the world, so how can He not have everything in His mind. That is, such a thing as "knowledge" cannot be said regarding the mind of Parama Purusa. Knowledge is the internal subjectivization of external objectivity. But in the case of Parama Purusa, when nothing is external to His mind then what is the question of getting knowledge. For Him, we cannot say He has "knowledge". And in the same way, for Him we cannot say He has "occult powers".

Baba says, "For living beings, omniscience is certainly a recognised occult power. That is right. But for the Supreme Entity it is not a recognised occult power; He does not get it as a result of cult...To know everything is His nature. That is why He is omniscient." (AV-5, p.15)

The entire creation lies within the mind of Parama Purusa so Parama Purusa sees everything. Because it is all in His mind. Whereas human beings acquire knowledge from outside. The sense is that according to the definition of the faculty of knowledge, for a person to know something then they must look outside the scope or periphery of their own mind. But with Parama Purusa nothing is outside His mind. That means that He does not 'know' anything; rather He sees everything as it is all going on within His own mind. He has His own characteristic that as Parama Purusa He controls all-- so He does not need any cult. For Parama Purusa then, there is no question of occult power. His power has nothing to do with cult. It is just like, Parama Purusa does not have any Jinan. What He has, that is not what we call as jinan. Similarly, what He has is not occult power. He did not get his power from cult. So we should be careful to avoid saying that "Baba displays occult power" as avidya tantrikas do.


Note 2:                     NOT LIKE CRUDE AVIDYA TANTRICS

In the past and in the present also many avidya tantrikas are using their occult powers to enhance their prestige; and in consequence they get degenerated. In this material world occult power is recognised by the "show" of those who possess them. Because of doing sadhana, they get occult power. But in the case of Parama Purusa, it is not at all like that. Because such powers are His inherent quality. He need not to practice any cult in order to get those things. As 'occult' means, those powers which are acquired through the practice of cult. But in the case of crude human beings especially, to gain prestige amongst the common innocent mass or their disciples, such avidya tantrikas do like this. Their motive is bad, self-centered, ego-centered. So by that type of show, their degeneration occurs from human structure to crude matter. AM philosophy never appreciates such type of show of occult powers.

In contrast, Baba as Mahasambhuti graced His disciples to cure their ailments: physical, psychic and spiritual. But such demonstrations He never displayed in the open public. Like creating gold from the air, and fetching sweets from invisible places with His own hand while sitting on the dais. Or such type of magic that avidya tantrikas usually do for their prestige. Baba's entire demonstrations were only for making His disciples better tools to serve the humanity, in better and better ways. His demonstrations were not for His prestige or show. The whole spirit of His demonstrations was far away from that. So when anyone writes a Baba's story then if one is careful in their explanation, then readers will understand.

All these things Dada told in his story. Then he asked that, 'Do you understand? Baba does not use occult powers like other crude people do.'

          THE MISSING LINK IN MANAGING A.M. SERVICE PROJECTS:

                   THE ROLE OF MARGIIS IS VITAL


Namaskar,
While there are many trends happening in AM, here below is one important
scenario that deserves the attention of one and all.

These days, most Dadas posted overseas are busy in doing business. They
earn money for their survival and for their different projects; plus they
have to pay "dues" to their supervisors etc to save their own situation. In
this way they have various financial demands. And these demands, including
those for maintaining AM projects, are met increasingly through our Dadas'
various businesses.

As an organisation and Marga family, we have to carefully evaluate how
sustainable this approach is, and how far it supports the well-being of
our Wts.


                         A LOOK AT HISTORY

When we analyse the history of human society, there are numerous examples
of organizations which were only supported by particular individuals, or
only by a particular rich person, or only by the king. That organization
could not survive for a long time.

In India, in the Muslim period, many mosques had been sustained by the help
of the then Muslim rulers. And when the throne changed to a different
dynasty, thousands of mosques got abandoned.

In the era of domination of Buddhism in India, Buddhist monasteries were
financially supported by various kings. And when the rulers lost their
power, those Buddhist monasteries died a premature death.

The bottom line is, that if any organization is not depending upon support
from its local members and if those local members are not encouraged or
welcomed to be deeply involved in managing those projects, then that type
of organization will not survive long.

Thus, in our Marga in all our service projects, local margii involvement is
necessary. Indeed margiis should be encouraged and empowered with positions
of authority in all local service projects. So in each and every area, in
every district our local margiis should get the opportunity to manage the
projects and more new local people should get initiated and be brought in
to help along. Otherwise if only a migrant / transitory population alone is
managing the project-- as is the case of Wts or margiis from other areas--
then it never gets success. And of course non-margiis can leave any time so
they cannot be depended upon to sponsor or oversee our projects.


                      BABA'S DIRECTION

That is why in each and every country, province, city, and town, Baba has
given the plan that local people-- local margiis-- should be actively
involved and they should be the managers of our organisational works in
that place. Only by this way can our projects grow. And in this way local
population will feel more and more connected with Ananda Marga. Because
they will see their own hometown citizens mangaing the projects. So they
will have trust etc.

Overall then two points are needed:

(A) Local Margiis must get opportunity to actively engage in and run the
local organisation projects.

(B) Specifically, the indigenous local population must be supportive. Our
AMPS organization must not depend on the migrant or temporary population
only.


                   OPPOSITE IS GOING ON

But in practice what we see is that most of the projects in AM are run with
the business money of Dadas. This is the case in various sectors. And when
the particular Dada who is funding a project gets transferred, then the
project falls apart. The reason is, that the Dada was overly busy in
business and feeding the project. And neither he had the support from his
supervisors, nor the time, nor the presence of mind to create and nourish
local margiis and inspire and give them duty to run the local service
projects.

But to build up our Marga, Baba guides us to do pracar among the local
people. That is the only way. In every nook and corner around the globe
Baba wants for AM to grow in this way.

Yet when we see the history of the last 20 years, then we see that gradually
our acaryas working overseas are getting more and more dependent on
business to earn money and run the projects. And more business involvement
is needed to fulfill their different financial needs -- from local
arrangements to what their supervisors are pressing them to give. In this
condition sincere Wts hardly have time to manage their own psycho-spiritual
development-- let alone be able to guide margiis in that arena. Thus Wts
engage more heavily in their business affairs when spiritual life gets
neglected.


                   OTHER REPERCUSSIONS

Not only that some of most harmful consequences of this are as follows.

A) When such Dadas get transferred, then those very projects - which they are
feeding by their own legal or illegal business - collapse.

B) The standard of acaryas is getting lower day by day. Here low means,
relative to what the conduct of one acarya should be. Most of the acaryas
who are deeply involved in business lose that type of inspiration and
spiritual conduct. For business, these acaryas spend a lot of time traveling
around. During these periods especially, they have much difficulty in following
16 points and dietary rules. Instead they are constantly thinking about business
and money; the mind gets degenerated step by step.

There are so many examples which can be cited with different names and their
history and business. But I think that those who are senior margiis, they
know all those things. Time to time other margiis have also discussed about
this, on this net.

And the overall effect is that our respected acaryas fall prey to negative
microvita.


              HOW NEGATIVE MICROVITA DOMINATES

A particular microvita takes influence on the human mind when the mind
begins to degenerate. This causes the mind to satisfy itself compromising
with ideology, to adjust in selfish way with the crude world.

Baba says, "Microvita exerts greater influence on the mind than on the
body.  ...They (yaksa microvita) advise human beings, "Practice dharma
sa'dhana' as and where you are.  Continue it in perfect adjustment with
everything."  That is, they advise a kind of selfish adjustment." (MV, p.106)

In result we have seen so many WTs who were involved in serious
businesses affairs left their acaryaship. And they are nowadays leading
degenerated life. The number of such degenerated avadhutas are not one or
two. Rather the tragedy is that this list will counts up to several hundred.

Unfortunately, when these acaryas were earning money by different
businesses and feeding their own projects, then they never thought that
their fate will be like this. Because, according to the cosmic principle,
progress or degeneration does not come in a flash, usually.

In a continuous way, the mind gets crudified or elevated according to the
actions which one does, or in which one is involved. For example, initially
those well-intentioned Dadas thought for money I have to gain the money.
But then in that course when they are involved in jewelry business, or
selling various goods and clothes, ladies garments, soda water and other
foods and company products, then in an attempt to build their business
they attend different lowly environments at the beach, or pseudo-culture or nude
gatherings. Then they are forced to see the ugly scene. So in the face of
all this their mind gets degenerated. And such WTs end up justifying this
negative scene by convincing themselves that "this way we have to adjust
and do Baba's work. To earn money."

So this is the sad state of affairs because surely when the human mind is
exposed to such types of negativity then the outcome is not good.


         WRONG UNDERSTANDING OF "OBJECTIVE ADJUSTMENT"

In this way those WT's get trapped and their flow gets totally affected &
by this way the mind gets more and more degenerated. Means these acaryas
forget the goal-- engrossed in avidya maya. Yet as they get more immersed in this
they convince themselves and do self-cheating by justifying internally and
also to their friends, "Objective adjustment...Objective adjustment...We
should compromise with our rules and regulations, for earning money".

Meanwhile the real definition of objective adjustment, such people they do
not know. And in confused state, they think that staying in five-star
hotels, taking bath in swimming pools with other nude or semi-nude people
of opposite sex. Or during sadhana, even listening to pop music. To such
things these acaryas misguidingly give the label, "objective adjustment".
In the name of adjustment, various Didis are also involved in business. And
they do not follow Baba's guidelines. Instead they keep long hair, go to
different beauty parlors to make their hair proper, and they use all sorts
of cosmetic make-up on their faces and dress as if they are business
representatives.

So you see the situation. In the name of objective adjustment, such acaryas
are cheating themselves. And they get involved in crude business
activities, 24 hours. Unfortunately, the whole day they pass their time,
thinking about and selling their merchandise or smuggled items-those things
that they are selling. Maybe in the beach side, or street selling. Or
working as salesman wandering around the market.

So when in this way their daytime passes, then one can imagine what happens
to their sadhana and asana. That is zero.

So in such a condition, earning money becomes the primary goal. And Parama
Purusa, becomes secondary. And in that degenerate state, such people lose
the path. And they become microvita yaksa, in due course. This is one
horrible stage.

Here we are not saying that this happens with all Dadas etc. Rather the point
is that any Wt who begins to compromise in this way suffers and faces
degeneration. And this entire formula applies to margiis and LFTs as well.


                   ALARMING SITUATION

Indeed, this very negative situation is alarming for everyone. Maybe as a
WT and involved in business, or maybe, a family margii who is doing a lot
of adjustment and compromising with the various Baba's teachings. So
everyone should be careful. And mend their way. Bring back unto the path of
dharma. For future progress, and to achieve the goal - Parama Purusa.

If one unknowingly even, does something wrong or sinful. Then the wrongdoer
has to face the consequence. Ignorance of the rule will not help. Or it
will not be one excuse, that "I was not aware that giving more importance
to money will open the door to convert myself to microvita - yaksa".

Human life is very rare. Our goal, or aim of life is Parama Purusa. And
eternal peace will be achieved at His feet. There is no other way. Only
Parama Purusa is the shelter. Not money.


                   BABA'S SPECIAL TEACHINGS

Some important notes and quotes are here below which relate to this entire
them of those who meet their fate due to over-involvement in business
affairs.

Baba says, "Those who were decent human beings and deeply spiritual, and
used to collect money for a noble cause, but in the process of fund raising
forgot Parama Purus'a and attached greater importance to their fund raising
at the cost of Parama Purus'a -- that is, they remembered Parama Purus'a as
part of dharma sa'dhana' and collected money for a great cause, and
although Parama Purus'a was the goal collecting money became the dominant
desire -- they attain the state of yaks'a devayonii after their demise."
(MV, p.105)

Baba says, "Those who constantly think about rupees or dollars attain a
kind of sama'dhi, too, for they become completely identified with their
crude object of attraction. If such people incur heavy losses due to the
collapse of their business or bank, they will die an instant death, for the
pillars on which their life was built crumbled beneath them. So, once they
lost their wealth, they lost their lives too." (APH-6, p.404)

Baba says, "Microvita do not divert the mind from the path of dharma, but
they do not allow the human mind to accept dharma as the dominant
propensity." (MV, p.106)

Even then I have deep faith that in the near future we will advance ahead
rapidly and build up a brilliant AM society and spread the ideals of dharma
and welfare to all the four corners.


                       OVERALL MESSAGE

The overall message then is two-fold. To run successful AM service projects
in any area, both local margiis and the general society must support and be
actively engaged in that project. Our Wts are to advise but not indulge
in the daily operation of those projects, otherwise our service programs
will not last. And side by side, regardless of whether one is WT or margii,
we should be extremely vigilant not to allow the mind to become so crudified
that we lose our sadhana and become totally immersed in worldly works. For
this honesty is needed both with ourselves and those around us. The aim must
be Him and not any mundane engagement.


                      BABA'S BLESSING

Here we should take help from Baba's following guideline.

Baba says, "There are many good people in this world who want to do good
work. You should convince them, work with them, and organise them to do
maximum service for the suffering humanity." (PNS-17, p.51)

Purport:

  The Parama Purusa Ajana Pathik has come. He has filled this mortal world
with the love of flowers and fruits. For Him no one is distant, no one is
alien, everyone is His own-- close and intimate.
  He has wiped away all the tears and removed the suffering of everyone.
Baba has come riding on the chariot of effulgence. He is associated with
one and all through His ota and prota yoga. He is pulling everyone with His
divine attraction and with the blessing of His varabhaya mudra. Today Baba
has come. The whole world is inundated with His love-- His grace....

              Fate of Egotistical People

Baba says, "It is only when the human beings, become puffed up with vanity
and misuse the power granted to them by Parama Purus'a, that He steals
everything from them. Hence, He is called Darpaha'rii - the stealer of
vanity...Vain people suffer a similar fate when their vanity is destroyed
as the balloon faces when its air is let out. But, does Parama Purus'a
snatch away everything from everyone? No, He takes away only when the unit
beings try to create obstructions in the flow of His creation." (APH-4,
p.247)

Note: In the above teaching Baba warns us about the fate of arrogant
people. As we know the ultimate antidote is developing a devotional link in
life and surrendering to the sweet will of Parama Purusa. Then in that case
arrogance will not get the scope to crop up. Unfortunately some in our
Marga overlook their devotional practices and instead get wrapped up in
their own plans and programs. Such persons can be easily recognised as all
day long they tell, 'I did this or I did that... I delivered one lecture
and all were amazed... I created one project... or I should be the
ruler...' and on and on they go about their own unit deeds & desires--
intoxicated by their little accomplishments and imposing their will on
others. To lovingly rectify such persons, Parama Purusa describes above
what dramatic intervention He takes. Looking around today, we can see how
some in our Marga have already undergone this thing and others are going to
experience the same similar fate.
