== BABA STORY: TRUE ANANDA MARGIIS & NATURAL CALAMITIES ==

Namaskar,
Before the jail period, Baba was in Patna hospital. At that time my duty was to provide help in any way and ensure that Baba's needs were properly managed.

During this period, I was blessed with the opportunity to be with Baba often. Here following is what transpired during one such occasion.

One day Baba looked at me and said, "There is one categorical assurance I can give you: Not a single true Ananda Margii will die in the forthcoming natural calamities and future natural catastrophes."

Hearing this, immediately one idea came in my mind. I did not know what Baba meant by "true Ananda Margii." I was not at all clear what a "true Ananda Margii" is.

I thought that since Baba knows all my thoughts then there is no need to ask Him about this.

While I was thinking thus, Baba explained, "Here is what I mean by a true Ananda Margii. For Me the definition is very simple."

Then Baba gave these two following qualifications.

1. "One who sincerely tries to follow yama and niyama."

2. "One who sits sincerely for sadhana twice a day regularly."

Hearing Baba's above two criteria, I started thinking that this is indeed very difficult.

Understanding my concern and confusion, Baba immediately qualified His two prior statements.

Baba spoke, "I am not talking about whether one is fully established in yama and niyama. Because if I am to consider who is truly established in yama and niyama, then I can say that would only be Lord Shiva."

Baba continued, "Again I will say, I am not talking about perfection in yama and niyama. I am talking about those who sincerely try to follow these ten principles of morality. That is enough."

"By sadhana I mean those who sincerely sit twice daily for meditation. Their meditation need not be perfect, but they should earnestly put forth the proper effort."

Baba concluded, "For Me, these are the two criteria of true Ananda Margiis. Those who are sincere in these two points, I will save them from all kinds of natural calamities which are coming in the future."

Namaskar,
Braj Bihari Sahay (Patna)

Note:  All know that Braj Bihari Sahay to be a very active and senior margii. He is well known around the globe. He worked in Patna but his hometown was Bhagalpur.

FURTHER REFLECTION ON THIS BABA STORY

This is a very meaningful story and gives the teaching that sincerity in sadhana and yama and niyama are very important. Parama Purusa resides in the mind of devotees and He is watching everything. If you are not sincere then your approach will not be successful.

We should ask ourselves, why has Baba given these two criteria? The answer is very simple. Because He loves His progeny. He wants that His disciples - His children - should attain salvation and not come back onto this earth and face their samskaras again and again - undergoing "the tortures of animal lives for crores of years."

He does not want us to be chained to this endless cycle of birth and death, and birth and death. He does not want that we should return to this world and create more negative samakaras. This is an endless cycle.

In His Supreme Command, Baba has given that those sincerely practicing sadhana will get salvation. Baba wants that all should attain moksa. That is why He has given these two criteria.

Let's think of it in this way. Suppose a mother says that if you study sincerely then you will get some sweets. Here the mother's intention is to make the child's life better in the future. The child may or may not understand but that is the mother's wish.

In this way Guru encourages us to do sadhana and get liberation from this serpentine noose, i.e. from this bundle of samskaras. Those who do not pay heed have to come again and again to face their samskaras; they will plunge themselves into more and more negative deeds and remain bound forever in "the tortures of animal lives for crores of years."

So there is no question of Parama Purusa seeking praise or glory by having sadhakas sing His kiirtan or repeat His name in sadhana. It is not like that. Rather, when one silently chants His name then the mind expands; and this psychic expansion leads to moksa. That is why it is important to do mantra japa. This is all done for our welfare.

So this is Baba's greatest assurance; this is the most gracious boon for human society. This makes salvation easily attainable. Without Baba's grace, one has to face all the reactions of their past actions, and come again and again onto this earth to suffer. If one follows these two simple things - sincerity in meditation, and sincerity in yama and niyama - then one's samskaras get exhausted, by His grace.

By following Baba's two mandates, one easily attains salvation. So not only are sadhakas assured of surviving any and all natural calamities while living on this earth but one will attain moksa as well.

Namaskar,
Pradiip

"A'ka'she a'loke bhese ja'y tava mahima'ri katha'..." (PS 3287)

Puport:

Baba, You are the most magnificent One. The tale of Your glory and grandeur is floating and permeating throughout each and every molecule of the vast, blue sky and in the effulgence-- everywhere. Baba, Your story, the story of the ever-present, Ancient One, is glittering in all the realms: in both bhuloka and duloka-- in the physical and spiritual worlds. Baba, You are so gracious.

O' Ancient, Divine One, You are eternally, ever-new. Baba, by Your grace You are always, intrinsically with everyone-- just like their vital force, just like their pra'na. Baba, You always remain present in my feeling, ideation, and intuition. For that reason this eternal longing of my heart is for You and You alone.

Baba, by Your grace with the flow of effulgence You color my mind and You are sitting in the depths of my ideation playing Your divine flute in the deep core of my heart. Baba You are so compassionate: You do not neglect or overlook anyone. You graciously goad everyone towards divinity, You show everyone the path which leads to immortality.

Baba, please shower Your causeless grace; I surrender at Your lotus feet...

- The Solution -

Baba says, "Whenever there is a conflict between the brain and the heart, intelligent people should respond to the call of the heart. The books in A'nanda Ma'rga philosophy are all absolute knowledge. The proper mark of identity of absolute knowledge is that it must be universal, rational and psychological. Certain instances of absolute knowledge are as follows --the goal of human life is the attainment of Brahma; human beings are the progeny of Parama Purus'a...by dint of sa'dhana' or spiritual practices human beings gradually become divine." == CHECK YOUR LOG BOOK ==

Namaskar,
When a cab driver wants to know how his day went, he checks his log book. Then he is able to review and see where he drove.

When a company needs to calculate their output, they view their log book so they can understand their position.

In that way, each and every person or institution consults their log book (electronic or otherwise) to find out their true status.

As sadhakas, our approach should not be any different. We too should have our "log book" - be it a diary, journal, or psychic memory - so we can understand our course in life.

Here below Baba guides us how to do it.

FROM BUGS TO BIRDS TO DOGS TO HUMANS

There are so many beings in this cosmological order and each has their own manner of operation.

Small bugs, beetles, worms, crabs, and lizards just function by their own instinct. They have no higher faculty of mind by which to direct their life. Such beings just walk or slide along engrossed by their own inborn desires.

Baba says, "In certain undeveloped creatures, instinct means only inborn instincts, and in such creatures the psychic waves cannot move beyond the arena of corporality." (YP)

Then there are some higher animals like dogs, monkeys, cows, and horses etc. They are guided by instinct as well as by psychic urge and emotion. Such animals can be tamed and trained & by that way they develop bonding relationships with their masters. Instinct does not totally dominate their life, they also have higher functioning minds that allow them to act according to their psychic or sentimental feeling.

For instance, your dog may not defend your neighbor from an intruder but certainly if you are attacked then your dog will defend you with all its might. That is because your dog is emotionally attached with you - it has that psychic connection.

Likewise your horse or cattle will not respond to others but it will obey your direction. All higher animals have that capacity or psychic urge. They are not exclusively guided by instinct. They are a bit more developed.

Baba says, "Animals who have developed themselves to some extent, mentally, spiritually, just like monkeys, just like dogs, have got some intellect. Although they are also guided by instinct, [but] because of close association with human beings that intellect has been a bit developed. A dog can carry a hurricane lantern like this, can carry a stick like this. It can feel the pains and pleasures of its master." (Ananda Vacanamrtam-14)

So there is a world of difference between undeveloped and developed creatures.

Finally we come to human beings. We have instinct, psychic urge (sentiment and emotion) and ideology. However, we are only to be guided by ideology, not by instinct or emotion. That is Baba's strict directive.

Baba says, "Human life, unlike animal life, is an ideological flow. Where there is no ideological flow, in that case, even if the physical structure is just like a man, he is not a man, but is an animal. So each and every human being must try his best to maintain the special status of humans. It is our first duty. It is our fundamental duty. This ideological flow must be maintained at any cost."

MUST CONSULT OUR LOG BOOK

Thus it is our bounden duty to check our log book daily. This human body is a machine. It was not designed for carnal pleasures or sentimental delights. Ours is the path of ideology. Our minds are to be trained in that way and our bodies are to be used for that course of movement - not any other.

So we have to be vigilant and ensure that our every action is according to AM ideology. Failing that we will be involved in misusing our bodies and minds, in which case either in this life or the next, we will get a body that is only usable for more crude pursuits. We will become an animal or even worse.

The situation is serious and the best way to keep abreast of the matter is to consult your log book and review your course of actions. With an unbiased mind, one is to critically analyse their modus operendi in life. We should ask ourselves: Was that action guided by ideology?

If the answer is a "no" or partial no, then that is the degree to which we are going against our human dharma and becoming transformed into a beast.

So multiple times through the course of every day we should consult our log book and see how we are doing. When with co-workers, when with our family, when making decisions, when at the dinner table, and throughout all our movements in life, we should readily consult our logbook and ensure we are heading in the right direction. Because if we are not, then our fate it not good - we will become a beast.

That is the very serious matter at hand. That is one way to think of it.

CROSSING THE OCEAN TO PARAMA PURUSA

The other way to think of it is to view this life as an opportunity to reach Parama Purusa. In the former manner we are trying to refrain from being dragged into animality and in this outlook we clearly have our sights set on divinity.

In this approach we are to wholeheartedly embrace ideology and cross the ocean of maya. We are most fortunate to have such an opportunity. That is the proper use of this human machine or human body.

Baba says, "Then who can get Him? They say it is very, very easy. What to do? “O Lord, I am Your creation. I am Yours, I am at Your disposal. This body is a machine. Utilize it.”" (AV-14)

By surrendering one's mind to Him and using this body to do His work, then one is sure to cross the ocean of maya and reach up to Him. That is what happens when one leads a life based on ideology, by His grace.

That is the best use of this human life.

BABA'S MANILA DISCOURSE

Furthermore, in His discourse, "Utilize All Your Potentialities" (21 April 1969 morning, Manila) Baba clearly tells us that if we have a tractor and a big lot of land then we are foolish and ignorant if we do not use the tractor and just let the land become totally wild and unusable. Our job is to use the tractor to make the land arable - that is the proper use of the tractor. That is what that machine (i.e. tractor) is for.

Similarly, this human body is a tool or a machine for attaining Him.

Yet all too often people misuse their bodies for other crude pursuits. Some get diverted towards sex and others towards all kinds of emotional cum sentimental attachments. In that case not only are they going to degenerate, but they are losing out on a great opportunity to attain godhood and sit on the divine lap of Parama Purusa.

So as sadhakas we should regularly review our code of conduct and ensure we are moving on the path of ideology. We should be swift to use our machine for attaining Him. Just sitting back and letting life go by is not enough. We are to utilise this life for reaching His divine lap, by His grace. And the way to do that is to check your log book. We are to see how far our intentions and actions are ideological or not. Are we doing what we should be doing or not. Then we can ensure our human machine is being used properly - then we will reach the Goal (Baba).

BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace, He has blessed us with a wonderful opportunity. We should not waste it and degrade back into animal life wherein we are just goaded by crude instincts. Ours is a human life that is meant for the expression of ideology. By consulting out log books on regular basis we can keep ourselves on track. That is the best utilisation of this human life. Then we will cross the noose of maya and get Him.

Baba says, "You have got a human body. Make the best utilization of it. Forget everything of the past from this very moment...Go on working in such a way that you give your proper worth to society, and you bring about the actual evolution of humanity. Be a devotee of humanity as well as a devotee of Parama Purus'a. Let victory be with you." (YP)

Namaskar,
Jiivendra

Purport:

Baba, without saying anything You came and appeared in my dhya'na, and now today without telling You just left-- disappeared. Baba, I was lying in the dust on the path, but You just lifted me up and put me on Your lap. It is Your grace, O' Parama Purus'a.

Baba, my dwelling was old and tattered-- broken down. And not only that, I was also without intellect and conscience. Indeed, my condition was so pitiful that I did not have even one morsel to put into my mouth. But, by Your grace, You bestowed everything upon me and You taught me all the things. Baba, I was not understanding the dharma of human life-- what human beings should do, what are the do's and don'ts-- about all these things I was not at all aware. To get You I did not do any sadhana. But even then by Your grace You have taught me sadhana and You have blessed me with perfection to move ahead on the path.

O' my dearmost Baba, previously in my life I was not even getting the status of a human being. All the teachings I had been given were full of dogma. Baba, by Your grace You have poured the sweetness and given me a voice and lifted me onto Your Divine lap. Baba, You have done everything. Secretly You came and secretly You left-- even then You have arranged everything for me. Baba, Your grace is unforgettable...

"Aja'na' Pathik a'ja, tare ghare d'eke na'o..."    P.S. 4342

Purport:

Today the Ajana Pathik Parama Purusa Baba has come! Don't miss this grand occasion. Receive Him with Your full heart and bring Him home without delay. Let your heart be saturated with the divine effulgence which He has spread all around. Now is not the time to waste in dogma, drowsiness, and slumber.

Baba has come for you, for me, for everyone. He loves everyone-- each and every place, each and every country, all. He feels pain and cries when seeing others' pain. And He smiles when He sees others smile. He loves all.

This is the time to surrender everything at His lotus feet. Missing the opportunity is not intelligent. Baba has come! Receive Him and bring Him close...

== JUNE 1990: "I WAS PRESENT THAT DAY..." ==

Namaskar,
That day in Madhu Korak Baba Quarter in Tiljala Kalkata June 1990, I was there. Baba gave His discourse in Bengali. He revealed the secrecy of the greatness of Guru. That very day BABA first told about Guru Sakash which later on became very important practice in our regular spiritual life.

Presently each and every margii knows about this Guru Sakash. We feel that Baba is in close proximity. Our day starts with the Guru Sakash.

Baba says, "Gurusaka'sha means 'near the Guru, under the Guru's umbrella, under the Guru's wings, in the Guru's shelter'." (Yoga Psy. p.146)

So we can see that Guru Sakash can only be done when the basic feeling or ideation is there that: 'I am under His shelter' or 'He is, that is why He will give me the shelter', & 'He is not gone far'.

We are fortunate enough that Baba brought this feeling that, 'Parama Purusa is easily accessible, He is around us. Not only around us but very close, intimate'. And that gives a lot. In my life I have realised that shelter has deep value.

SCENE AT THE POLICE STATION

Once I visited one of my friends at the police station. I saw that during the occasion of mela (festival), one lost baby had been brought by someone and the baby was crying for its parents. Police officials were trying to help the baby by giving some chocolate, fruits, sweets, candy. Everything was in vain. Silently sitting I was thinking that why this baby is going on non-stop crying. What really was lacking? What is it that baby needs?

Then idea came that this baby does not need anything other than its mother. And why mother? Because the baby feels safe when it is under the shelter of its mother. I have seen in my neighborhood that when 2 babies/young children of different families are quarreling, then in their innocence when one get hurt by the other they claim, 'I will tell my mother and she will beat you'. So those babies think their mother is going to solve all the problems and with that trust they claim as such. So we can see that small babies are care-free, their life is away from problem. No tension. Etc.

IMPORTANCE OF SHELTER

So shelter is very significant thing.  Those thinking literally may not be understanding this point - shelter of Guru. But this has a deep value in the life of spiritual aspirants. Our life is surrounded by problems, and I have seen that those who are more and more depending on Supreme Entity (Baba), they are comparatively stress-free.  And life is blissful. But those who do not have that feeling of shelter to God, they live in a quagmire of problems. In spite of even living with all worldly luxuries in true sense they live in hell, in tension. To remove that they get addicted to alcohol and many nasty things. So according to my feeling, this shelter of Guru is meaningful in our day to day life.

Baba says in many discourses, "Mahat Krpaeva bhagavat krpaleshadva". Grace of Guru is everything.

I think that Baba graces when a devotee takes shelter in Him. And in spiritual life His grace is everything. So when grace is everything and grace is related with the feeling of shelter under the Guru. And the feeling of shelter is associated or linked with the feeling of the Presence of Guru. The meaning is, if His presence is questionable then what shelter.

And for the bhakta, Guru's presence means eternal presence along with my own existence. So to take shelter the existence of both Guru and devotee are required.

DOGMA OF MAHAPRAYAN

But when the idea is injected that Guru is gone vis so-called Mahaprayan, then one party is missing. The devotee is there and Guru is gone. By that way, taking shelter is not possible because in whom one will take shelter? In such case one's heart will not be feeling comfortable to take shelter of such an entity who is gone. Such is their dogma.

Baba says, "Parama'tma' is seated in your heart." (SS-19)

We all feel in our regular life and realise in our sadhana that Guru is along with us. Baba says in His teachings when very early in the morning one awakens then immediately we should put ourself under His shelter. Or take His shelter. And this Guru Sakash is mandatory for each and every Ananda Margii.

Or we can say, every Ananda Margi very early in the morning starts with Guru's closeness. And over the course of whole day, His closeness is there by guru mantra, different lessons, Shravan, Manan, Nididhya'sana, thinking about Him, doing His work, 4 times sadhana, and in the night time when going to bed we remember His name and fall asleep in His lap. Such is Baba's divine grace and presence.

BABA'S BLESSING

So thinking on this line, I find no room about Mahaprayan. Baba is always along with us. Baba says in Shabda Cayanika, discourse #223 which is also printed in Yoga Psychology,

"Early in the morning one should meditate on the Guru in Vara'bhaya Mudra with two hands and two eyes seated on a white lotus in Guru cakra, and address Him with your most loving and affectionate epithet.
...In what state does the Guru, endowed with two eyes and two hands exist? In the Vara'bhaya Mudra (in the posture of holding out the boon of fearlessness) He is your well-wisher, and as a matter of fact, the doer of your good.
The epithet with which you address the Guru or silently speak during your dhya'na or Gurudhya'na should also be used by you at the time of this Gurudhya'na. Always address the Guru at a stretch. This is Gurusaka'sha." (10 June 1990)

So in our practical life we are all feel and believe that Baba is with us.

Namaskar.
At His feet,
Amoghasiddhi

Note: RELEVANT STORY

This following story about Shankaracarya & his Mayavada theory (illusion theory) is highly related with the present scene.
Baba says, "One morning a wild bull suddenly started to charge that maha'purus'a [Shankaracarya], so he ran away as fast as his legs could carry him. A logician who happened to be standing nearby asked the maha'purus'a, "Well sir, if you say that this world is unreal, then the bull is also unreal, so why are you running in fear?" That maha'purus'a would not accept any defeat in logic and replied, "My running away is also unreal." (NKS, '97, p. 81)

Baba says, "This philosophical doctrine [of mayavada] had left the people cynical and brought them to the brink of disaster." (NKS, '97, p. 81)

The above story which exposes the hypocrisy of Shankaracarya is more than 1000 years old but it still has much relevance in this present era. Because these days certain leaders are once again organizing their hypocritical, so-called mahaprayan function.

Point is that making their so-called Mahaprayan (MPD) program itself gives the false message that Baba is gone and at the same time at MPD they are propagating a kiirtan program in which everybody ideates that Baba is present. So on the one hand Baba is gone forever and on the other side He is along side us. Mahaprayan versus Kiirtan.

So the entire way of dealing of these group leaders is self-contradictory and submerged in the whirlpool of dogma. They are caught in the net of their own self-created contradiction.

And this hypocrisy is for no other reason than the purpose of convincing innocent people to come into their group fold and donate money to their "cause". It is nothing but one negative, hypocritical ploy.

These days no one is befooled by such tactics, step by step nearly everyone is understanding the dogma and extreme negativity of the so-called Mahaprayan program and how this is just one group's hypocrisy and groupist strategy.

The Way Parama Purusa Evaluates

Baba says, "Do not think that those who are highly learned intellectuals are elevated. In the realm of spirituality even illiterate persons can reach the Goal, leaving those intellectuals behind. Parama Purusa does not consider the intellectual qualification or intellect. He evaluates everyone with the measuring scale of how much love one has for Parama Purusa." Baba

== BABA STORY: GUIDING IN SADHANA ==

Namaskar,
I went to Patna to attend to some family matters and while there I faced a lot of clash. When I came back to Jamalpur, I sat for my regular sadhana. But, in place of doing proper sadhana and japa, all the trouble and difficulties of the trip to Patna flooded my mind. I became totally immersed in those mundane thoughts. I completely forgot that I was supposed to be doing sadhana.

It was then that I clearly heard Baba's voice. In a scolding tone Baba was saying: "Dasarth...Dasarth...Dasarth...". Baba called my name three times.

Hearing this I was completely surprised. I broke my sadhana and started searching all around to find Baba. I went outside but I did not see Baba. I was thinking, "Where has Baba gone, how has He left so quickly, why is He not here."

I wondered, "When Baba is not here then how did His voice reach me."

I then returned to my seated posture and did my sadhana as usual. I also thought I should go see Baba that evening.

So that evening I made it over to Baba's residence around the time that He would go for regular His field walk. I was standing outside His house with the plan that when He comes out then I will accompany Him on His walk.

In His usual way, Baba came out from the house and began walking. I started following Him, just keeping a few paces behind. I was thinking when I get the opportune moment I will ask Baba about His coming to my house and why did he leave so quickly without waiting for me. I wanted to know if He was angry with me for not doing meditation in the correct way. I wanted to ask Baba why He came to my house and called me and then left so quickly. While walking, I had these thoughts in my mind.

When the right moment arrived, I asked in a very humble manner, "Baba, did You become annoyed with me today when I was not doing sadhana properly - is that why You scolded me?"

Hearing this, Baba smiled and He started talking on another matter.

Since that time I became very particular in my sadhana. If worldly thoughts ever intruded my spiritual practice, I did not entertain them at all. I just re-focused my mind on my meditation, by His grace.

Namaskar,
Ac. Dasarth (Jamalpur)

SOME REFLECTIONS ON THE ABOVE BABA STORY

1. In the above story, Baba smiled because Dasarthji understood the message that at the time of sadhana one should not think about other worldly matters, rather one is to focus on their meditation. Baba did not talk further on this point with Dasarthji because there was no need.

2. As Guru, Baba guides His devotees onto the right path, irrespective of where they are. Always He is present to benevolently guide them in all kinds of ways. Indeed there are countless stories recounted by sadhakas how Baba helped them in their time of need and brought them onto the path of dharma. Baba has blessed all His disciples in this way, directly and indirectly.

Baba says, "While doing anything, while doing any mundane duty or doing any spiritual practice – you should always remember that He is Subject, He is seeing what you are doing. He is hearing what you are thinking. You cannot do anything secretly. He is always with you...you are never alone; He is always with you. You are never helpless, you are never shelterless, you are never weak, you are the strongest personality of the universe, because the Supreme Entity is always with you." (Ananda Vacanamrtam, part 12, The Only Cult)

Here the point is that Baba is with His disciples all the 24hrs. He is ever-ready to guide and protect you, and there are innumerable ways in which He might express His presence. This is nothing but His unfathomable grace.

3. Some think that keeping a worldly diary by their side during sadhana is a good idea so they can write down those mundane points and creative ideas. But this is a very bad thing to do. In that case, one cannot ever do sadhana they will just be caught up in crude thinking and when sadhana time comes then more and more of those thoughts will fill the mind and one will go on writing them down. This is a very negative and degrading approach. Rather when those thoughts come they should be immediately pushed aside and one should redirect their mind toward their spiritual practice and cherished Goal.

Namaskar,
Ranjan Deva

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Tumi a'cho, a'mio a'chi, a'r keu nei e tribhuvane..."  (P.S. 2027)

Purport:

Baba, You are my dearest One; by Your grace I love You so much. For me, in this entire universe-- tribhuvan*-- only You and I exist. There is nothing else in this whole creation except You and I. Baba, by Your grace You have brought me here. And with Your love and compassion You are nourishing me, always keeping me under Your shelter. Baba, by Your divine grace I always receive Your tender love and care-- both in times of great joy as well as during times of intense suffering. Always, in each and every circumstance, I feel Your sweet and loving presence.

Baba, by Your grace You bless me with Your blissful touch in the effulgence of the new dawn. Baba, Your charming smile gets expressed in the blossom of the lily and in the flowering of the lotus. Baba, in the dry, burning desert You are the soothing balm. Baba, You are so gracious, in that unbearable heat You provide a cool oasis and lush verdant leaves. Baba, You saturate my dreams with Your divine love.

Baba, in the form and fragrance of the sweet flowers, You dance and emanate in the vast blue sky. Baba, You always manifest Your divine Self in each and every cell of my being-- as well as in the most distant corner of my mind. Baba, by Your grace Your magnanimous effulgent smile shines like a blissful lightening bolt throughout my entire existence-- inside and out, as well as in each and every pore of this vast, infinite cosmos.

Baba, You are that most effulgent and loving Personality-- I surrender at Your alter...

*Tribhuvan: The prefix "Tri" means 'three' and the term "bhuvan" means 'world'. And here Baba further clarifies what He exactly means by tribhuvan, or the three worlds:

Baba says, "Tribhuvana means the expressed world, the psychic world and the
astral world or, you may say, Causal World." (AV-2)

***************************************
Three Dangers

Baba says, "We may say that intoxicants have three distinct characteristics. Firstly, if one addict does not receive that intoxicant at their regular, fixed time during the day then they will become anxious and restless-- even agitated. In addition, when they do get it then their mind will not like to involve in any work. The second major point is that as long as one remains under the spell of that intoxicant, his intellect will be dysfunctional. And if one continues to take intoxicants on a regular, on-going basis, then their mental stupor will continue on and on. The third major danger is that intoxicants adversely affect the liver, throat, and kidney. And in the majority of cases, the user suffers from constipation also. In conclusion, all intoxicants are bad; opium and ganja (cannabis indica) extremely harmful." (SC-15)

Note: As A'nanda Ma'rgiis, our duty is to propagate Baba's above teaching and warn others about the harmful effects of intoxicants.

== RE: THOUGHT OF THE DAY OF ONE ELDERLY MARGII ==

Namaskara!

Great post. It shows that devotion towards the Supreme is the real goal. It is obvious that this poor soul has no real devotion, because had he developed a personal love relationship with BABA, then he wouldn't be so negative and quoting such imperfect beings.

Further, as you know, "as you think, so you shall become." So, his negative thoughts such as "being a fool," as in the Japanese proverb, creates the reality that he will behave as such--that is to say, a fool.

I liked your Baba quote on how people like these become the type of negative microvita you mentioned.

BABA'S GRAND GUIDELINE

Also this next teaching from Baba is of value as we should not waste our time indulged in useless pursuits like sharing these dogmatic quotes with others.

Baba says, "The psychic potentialities of human beings are immense, but people do not utilize them because most of their valuable time is wasted in undesirable thoughts, in psychic extravaganza. Suppose human life is an average of sixty years. Twenty years of that is spent in sleep, and the remaining forty years are wasted in petty or useless activities. How much time do people really get to devote to worthwhile tasks? This psychic extravaganza should be checked either by physical approach, or psychic approach, or by spirituo-psychic approach." (Yoga Psychology, Cult of Pinnacled Order)

OTHER KEY POINTS

Here are further points to keep in mind:

1. It seems SS Goenka Dada's mind is low and there by he wants others to misuse and abuse their psychic capacity as well.

2. Again we should review this key teaching from Beloved Baba.

Baba says, "How much time do people really get to devote to worthwhile tasks? This psychic extravaganza should be checked either by physical approach, or psychic approach, or by spirituo-psychic approach." (Yoga Psychology, Cult of Pinnacled Order)

ONLY THOSE DROWNED IN EGO LOSE THEIR BALANCE WHEN AGED;

BHAKTAS DO NOT SUFFER IN THIS WAY

3. As to the question posed whether everyone will lose their common sense as they become aged. I feel the answer is - "no". Everyone will not become like this. Only those indulged in ego, money, wealth, power, vanity of intellect, and crude beauty are going to suffer in this way and lose their mental balance and viveka.

Good sadhakas and devotees will maintain their psychic equilibrium and continue to progress spiritually, by His grace. That is Baba's direct guideline.

So this malady of becoming mentally imbalanced applies only to those dominated by egoistic, self-centered dealings.

BABA'S BLESSING

4. May this elderly margii shed his ego so he will be drenched by Baba's divine blissing and thus get opportunity to develop his devotion for Parama Purusa and be saved from such destruction that he is now heading toward.

Baba Nam Kevalam.

Namaskar,
Brahmadeva

Here is the earlier letter on this topic. If you click on the below link or view your inbox and find the earlier posting then you will see the inane and senseless quotes that Goenka Dada is sharing with our Marga community on a regular basis. May this faulty endeavour of Goenka stop at the earliest. Let us all hope for SS Goenka's recovery.

Note 2: FOR MONTHS THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON

Here is yet another letter which stands as evidence how this problem with Goenka aka Hamrahi has been an on-going affair wherein he shares useless quotes and ideas with Ananda Margiis from around the world with his silly "Thought of the Day" emails. When in truth we in the Marga do not have time for this. Rather we should focus on sadhana, service and the study of Baba's dharmic guidelines, not the sharings of an imbalanced person.

== THOUGHT OF THE DAY OF ONE ELDERLY MARGII ==

Namaskar,
Is it really true that when people become aged, they lose their common sense? By the looks of one email from an elderly margii, it certainly seems so.

Till today, I had great regard for our seniors. After all, Baba has given the direction that if any acarya is not present to lead a certain function, then an aged or senior margii can take charge.

So I had great respect for my elders - and was looking forward to becoming more senior myself - but now I am scared.

By reading SS Goenka Dada's recent "Thought of the Day" email, I am thinking differently. It has become more clear to me that when a person ages, one may lose their common sense entirely.

SS Goenka is now aged and it seems that he has no idea what to share with margiis.

Please see his email below and decide for yourself.

As Ananda Margiis, we are interested to read Baba stories and other spiritually uplifting and inspiring ideas, but in his letter SS Goenka is sharing the exact opposite: Dull and ignorant quotes which I have appended below for your own review.

BABA'S GOLD BAR STANDARD

First we should get a taste of the sterling example of our Ananda Marga. The quotes we share with other margiis should be up to this gold-bar standard.

Baba says, "O human beings, build the social structure considering the needs of humanity. Do not try to do anything for your petty personal and group interests, because whatever little you want to do with your limited outlook cannot last. The cruel touch of time will annihilate your aspirations into an oblivion that you cannot comprehend...Through action mixed with devotion and knowledge you will find the meaning of your life, the supreme treasure of your heart. This treasure you have unknowingly kept carefully hidden in the golden casket of your heart." (Subhasita Samgraha - Part 1, The Evolution of Society, 1 January 1955 DMC)

Namaskar,
Ramlal

Note: WHAT SS GOENKA DADA SHARED PUBLICLY

Here below please see the highlighted quotes which SS Goenka shared in his most recent "Thought of the Day" email. Goenka's quotes are in purple and our comment is in black.

On 09/24/2011 07:19 AM, Sgoenka wrote:

We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance.

- Japanese Proverb

When people are drunk they talk like this. You might have heard someone say something like this after drinking lots of liquor. Or you might have heard those in a lunatic asylum talk like this.

It is childish and ignorant to talk of duality and non-duality; the enlightened ones laugh at all this. However, without such a discussion based on duality and non-duality, it is not possible to clean one's consciousness of ignorance.

- Yoga Vasishta

This is useless extravaganza - just a waste of time.

I am not the real hero. Anna Hazaare is the real hero.

-Amir Khan, the most popular matinee idol of Bollywood.

The above is proof of his mental bankruptcy. As we know, our hero is Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji.

Those days in Jamalpur, Baba gave a demonstration of the Mahabharata era and He narrated the heroic actions of Arjuna and the Pandavas and He told about the great devotee Sudama as well.

Then Baba asked all those present, "Who is your ideal? To whom do you want to follow"?

Some said "Sudama" and others responded "Arjuna."

However both of these answers were incorrect. Only Parama Purusa can be your ideal - to ideate on any human being is to invite one's degeneration. One's ideal must be perfect.

Baba says, "Now whom should you take to be your ideal? Neither of the two – neither Sudámá nor Arjuna. You do know that neither of the two is perfect – so how to take anything imperfect as the ideal of life? Your ideal has to be perfect – so your ideal is to be the Lord and the Lord alone. No one else should be your ideal." (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 31, Your Ideal in Life)

I think Baba's teaching properly addresses the defective quote shared above.

Complete surrender does require that you have no desire of your own. You must be satisfied with whatever God gives you and that means having no desires of your own.

- Ramana Maharshi.

If one does not have any desire as Buddha or these defective yogis like Maharishi preach, they will become videhaliina microvita. They will not have a human body and they will not become one with Parama Purusa. Because Parama Purusa was not the Goal. One must have an innate desire to please Parama Purusa to become one with Parama Purusa. Without longing for Him how can one attain Him? This is the biggest defect of Buddhism and what these fake yogis like Maharishi preach. They try to concentrate the mind but have no goal. All those following this approach are just going to become negative microvita.

Baba says, "A spiritual aspirant attains the state of videhaliina as a result of shunya dhyána or ideation on nothingness. Through such ideation a sádhaka develops a psychic pabulum of nothingness. Yet even in this state there remains the possibility of rebirth. Those who embrace nothingness as their absolute goal develop a void in their citta in the absence of Cognitive Faculty. As a result they are unable to establish themselves in the Supreme Cognitive Stance and attain salvation. The spiritual cult which encourages this practice is certainly defective." (Ananda Marga Ideology and Way of Life in a Nutshell - Part 9, Psychic Assimilation in Psycho-Spiritual Practice)

FINAL REFLECTIONS

When I again consider Goenka Dada's email, all I can think is that this is scary and shocking to see. We will all age and is this what we have to look forward to: We will lose our common sense? Can anyone please reply on this point.

By seeing and reading his recent email, it really looks like SS Goenka has lost his mental balance and equipoise. He has become so self-centered that he cannot understand what people might like or dislike.

What could be the cause of his sharing such things with our AM community. Does it not seem that due to being aged he has lost his grip and mental balance.

Otherwise why would he share these aforementioned quotes which are filled with pseudo-culture, dogma and ignorance.

Our best wishes to SS Goenka Dada. By Baba's grace may he again recover his faculties.

Baba's Plan: Key Female Issue...

Baba

BABA'S PLAN: KEY FEMALE ISSUE -

START ONE GRAND PROCESSION

Note: This entire letter exemplifies our key stand against the exploitation of women. This is critical in the dharmic fight against today's pseudo-culture. We should all take aim on this issue.

Namaskar,
Here is one beautiful memory many others may also recall. It is related with our most beloved Sadguru Baba and how He has infused the needed dynamism to build up a society based on dharma.

THOSE DAYS IN PATNA...

All are aware that Baba used to live in Patna. During the time of His residence there, various types of Prout organisations were made active with the inspiration of His sweet will whereby He would encourage, prod and lovingly scold us into action. This was all going on just after His Jail period.

That time, under His guidance, the Proutist federations like UPSF, UPYF, UPLF, UPFF, UPIF became quite active. And by His grace the moment came to activate our Didis' side. As we know we have the GP Department.

BABA'S SPECIAL PLAN

Baba gave one special program that was really unique. The plan was that sisters should protest against the exploitation of females. And the creative part of the program was that the Didis / sisters should organise one big procession. And that was exactly what was done. So many margii sisters and Didis made one huge public march to uphold the dignity of women.

And it was a grand success. It was a consciousness raising event where countless people became active on the issue. Some youths were even holding sticks in their hands and tearing away crude advertisements by the roadside which had negative pictures of females. All in all many good things came in result. And when the report of  the procession was given to Baba then He became very happy.

Some special details about this program I will also recount further down in this email. But that time the whole event was held because of the on-going exploitation against women.

HOW FEMALES ARE EXPLOITED IN TODAY'S DEGENERATED SOCIETY

In our lives we regularly come across different media such as the internet, newspapers, magazines, as well as posters and bill boards on the roadside which depict females in crude way. People are making big, big banners and posters in this way to sell their articles  and wares.

The crude depticion of women is used when advertising for many products. Surely we all may have seen such things. Around the globe irrespective of any country, male domination is prevalent. Of course for males, the opposite sex is females. And it is a basic yet crude instinct to be attracted to the opposite sex, especially if one's mind is impure. Because of this male domination, advertisers use females to attract males and thereby sell their products.

Most likely, if society was dominated by females, then crude business people would have painted males' photos and they might have used males to attract females to sell their products. And thus empty the pocket of female customers.

But now things are opposite. Advertisements are based on the exploitation of females because of the currently male dominated society. The motivation is to attract males for purchasing their goods by showing the picture of elaborately decorated and exposed females. This very cunning and devious type of exploitation is going on. Some people are aware but most are oblivious.

...THE STORY OF BABA'S REVOLUTIONARY PLAN CONTINUES

Now, as told above, I am coming back to the story of what occurred during that grand procession in Patna as per Baba's guideline.

We know our AM and Prout fight against all sorts of exploitation. So that time in Patna  the procession was organised to raise the awareness of the public against the exploitation of females. And as is seen all around, female exploitation is going on by businessmen by placing females photos in their advertisements in 'negative way'.

That grand procession created a huge stir. Young sister youths and students had buckets of black paint and so many brushes. And wherever they saw negative pictures of females, they were just destroying those negative advertisements with the black paint. All along the city streets this was going on. Both on the main road and also on so many side avenues also. In that was this procession had a huge effect. The news was published in the newspapers and the common mass appreciated the work done by our procession. Plus, Baba was extremely pleased.

VICTORY ACHIEVED

The effect was very great: For some time thereafter many negative advertisements were reduced and or eliminated completely. So that was one point of success. Of course, though, to completely wipe out any such exploitation then indeed constant hammering is needed. So this is our ongoing work of both AM and Prout.

Previously in our programs, we were raising the slogans and opposing the negative societal trends. We were bringing the banner and protesting that females should not be negatively portrayed in advertisements. Means our Marga was upholding Baba's dharmic guideline that as Proutists and Margiis our duty is to fight against female exploitation and uphold the dignity of women.

So we should remember that Baba has guided us to build up all the sectors of society and, in that same spirit, He has warned us to be careful not to sacrifice the sanctity of women.

A FEW OF BABA'S TEACHINGS ON THE DIGNITY OF WOMEN

Here are a few of the many teachings of Baba that lead in that direction.

Baba says, "Men...should always endeavor to save the prestige of women. As the mothers of men, women can claim this much as a right." (CC, '95, pt 1, p.49)

Baba says, "Special attention should be paid to the comforts of women during festivals, at spiritual conferences, and on other occasions." (Caryacarya)

And here Baba emphasizes the need to elevate and safeguard women's place in society thus ensuring a bright future of humanity.

Baba says, "We stand to create a powerful, dynamic and upsurging social consciousness, especially among women, so that they are inspired to rise, abolish dogma and annihilate all symbols of slavery, and usher in a new era of coordinated cooperation and glorious achievement." (PNS-13, p.49)

But now what is going on in some of our AM public programs is against the word and spirit of Baba's mandates. A few people are making public programs these days that are moving in their own direction, against the dignity of women. Please refer to the notes further down.

BABA'S BLESSING

These following words of Baba stand as great inspiration for one and all.

Baba says, "The significance of life does not lie only in living. Animals also live. But life to us means something more -- rather something much more. To us life means living for a great cause." (AFPS-9)

Namaskar,
Parashram

Note 1: HOW THEY ARE GOING AGAINST THE CODE

Since 1990 and up till today, the on-going negative trend by leading groups in their public Prabhat Samgiita & RAWA programs is quite apparent and, on the whole, rather degrading. These days they are using various alluring female dancers who are in the peak age of their physical attraction-- i.e. 20-25 years old. So by seeing the body, look, and dress of the female dancers it is clear how they are being negatively projected as tools of allurement. Just so that these group draw in the public and thus sell their cassettes and gain more profit, and / or attract crowds at the RAWA programs.

Unfortunately these programs are going on all around on our very own platform of Prabhat Samgiita & RAWA programs. They have shockingly become the scene of female exploitation. A few are simple and they may not understand how they get exploited. So this is one group's special tactic to use those 22 year old alluring girls to stockpile profits for their Prabhat Samgiita sales. And this has been going on in DMS and programs all along since 1990. So this is the common malady. And recently another group has been continuing this tragic trend.

At the DMS of 2011 January & June they were putting the women of Delhi sector up for show, the director also included females from Brazil who were 20+ years of age, girls from Taiwan who were 14+ years of age and women from Bengal who were 30 years of age.

So there was a wide array of women on display for this "cultural program" at DMS. And all were dancing and swinging on that stage on stage in a way that was not befitting of our dharmic code.

That is why many people say that director of these programs - Mrinal Pathak of Ranchi - is just a perverted man doing injustice to the status of females and going agains the dharmic cause of the dignity of women. Because despite the many complaints about such degrading displays recently with our youths and young ladies, he does this again and again to our RAWA cultural programs. Many have therefore concludes that Mr Pathak has suffers from a weakness of mind, i.e. perversion. Worst of all, he goads our youths in the wrong direction on the public stage no less, as if this is our stand in AM.

No Ananda Margii wants to degenerate themselves by attending such a "cultural program". But those at DMS and RAWA programs are often forced to watch. Many of our younger Dadas complain about this. As a new acarya they want to support all programs at DMS, yet this type of pseudo-cultural program seriously compromises their position and discipline as it contravenes Baba's conduct rules.

BABA'S DHARMIC APPROACH

Of course we know that this was never Baba's approach. And I myself remember when I personally attended the Shravanii Purnima program in 1990 then that time just a young girl of 5 or 6 years of age was dancing Prabhat Samgiita. And that was Baba's strict rule and we all witnessed this. That only those pre-adolescent girls should be on the public stage dancing
Prabhat Samgiita.

MORE ABOUT THE CURRENT SCENE

But now something completely different is going on. People should understand that Prabhat Samgiita should not be used to satisfy the crude instincts of certain negative people. And women of any age should also not get exploited on any stage - let alone that of our Ananda Marga. But I have full faith that by our collective effort we will not allow such negative affairs to go on much longer.

NOTE 2: ABOUT OUR PROUT FEDERATIONS

The Universal Proutist Federations known as UPSF, UPYF, UPLF, UPFF, and UPIF  accordingly refer to the (a) Student, (b) Youth, (c) Laborers, (d) Farmers, and (e) Intellectuals, Universal Proutist Federations.

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Ei anurodh prabhu tava caran'e, manake a'ma'r shubh pathe calio..." (P.S. 2098)

Purport:

Baba, I place this request at Your lotus feet: Please guide me and goad my mind towards the path of welfare and divinity. If ever I am surrounded by hopelessness, then please light my heart with the lamp of hope and lead me unto the path of effulgence.

Baba, I ask for your Your divine grace: Do not allow fear, shyness, hatred, and all these pashas (bondages) and ripus (enemies) to block the path of my forward movement towards You.

Baba, please grace me with Your thundering voice of the samvit shakti--  "awareness"*. If ever my mind gets negatively affected with attachment of materialism and indulges in crude worldly enjoyments, then that time please awaken the tender human qualities which are sleeping in my heart.

When in my heart, my human feelings become drowsy and sleepy, that time my mind degenerates and I get attached towards those mundane, worldly things. And I get involved and start indulging in those crude affairs. So that time, please grace me and awaken my human feelings.

Baba, please give me strength so I can march ahead on Your path, in a very straight direct way. Make it so that I will never lose the track; make it so taht I wiol never fall onto that negative path. Baba, please remain along with me, all the time. Always keeping Yourself as my guide on this journey of forward movement.

Baba at Your lotus feet, this much request I have: Please lead me from the darkness to the effulgence...

* Samvit = "The popular meaning of sam'vit shakti is "awareness" - awakening from slumber. With the help of sam'vit shakti, unit beings become aware of their existence. They realise that they are the crown of creation, the most evolved beings whose goal is to attain the supreme rank and dispel the darkness of the avaran'ii shakti of avidyamaya." (Baba)

Importance of Padma'sana

Baba says, "Padma'sana [lotus posture] is just like a lotus in full bloom. Just as the roots and stem of the lotus remain under the water and only the leaves and flowers float about it-- and although it is born in the mind it sustains its love for the stars-- in the same way people sitting in this lotus posture  and remaining in the world, can keep their minds above their mundane environment. That is why on the path of sa'dhana' this posture has tremendous importance." (NSS, '85, p.241)

Jai Slogan Reveals

Baba

This email contains 3 distinct sections:
1. PS #4863 - Your Holy Advent
2. Posting: A'ma'der Baba Ki - Jai: 3rd Grade Devotion
3. End Quote: Dark Skin Is A Plus

A'MA'DER BABA KI – JAI:

 3RD GRADE SLOGAN

Namaskar,
As we know, the relation between Parama Purusa and the aspirant is based on devotion. And there are various grades of devotion.

As one feels closer to Parama Purusa, we say that their level of bhakti has increased. When one feels more distant from Parama Purusa, we say that they have lower devotion. Baba has clearly outlined this in His discourses.

FIRST GRADE OF DEVOTEES & THEIR SLOGAN

Here Baba clearly defines the three basic levels of devotion.

“Devotees of the highest category think, “Parama Purus'a is mine only and He belongs to no one else.” This is the sign of an excellent sa'dhaka, and the spiritual progress of this category is inevitable. “He is mine and mine alone and He does not belong to anyone else” – this assertion is undoubtedly true.” (1)

Per Baba's teaching, in this top-most level of devotion, the bhakta feels that “Parama Purusa is mine – He only belongs to me – He is my personal property.” Baba guides us that this is the degree of devotion a sadhaka should strive for in life. Certainly many in our Ananda Marga have this type of feeling. They have a personal relation with Parama Purusa. Indeed this is the way dhyana is done. There is no third entity present, only there is the bhakta and Parama Purusa.

So top devotees do not raise the slogan – A'ma'der Baba ki – Jai! More about this is written below. Here it should be understood that a'ma'der means "our." Rather top bhaktas raise the jai slogan that indicates that Parama Purusa is mine - not ours.

According to Baba, this type of devotional outlook is the true nature or link between the bhakta and Parama Purusa. They have a personal relationship. So they do not raise the slogan A'ma'der Baba ki – Jai.

SECOND GRADE OF DEVOTEES & THEIR SLOGAN

Then there is the next tier of devotion – it is a notch below.

“The second category of devotees...They think, “Parama Purus'a is mine, and thus He must belong to others also.” That is, the devotees...have no hesitation in sharing Parama Purus'a with others.” (2)

Here due to a lack of closeness with Parama Purusa, the second-grade bhakta thinks: Baba created this entire universe so naturally He belongs to all. In this phase, the 2nd grade bhakta feels that Parama Purusa belongs to me, but reasons that He must belong to others also. This type of outlook only occurs when they do not have a personal relation with Parama Purusa. And in that case, they raise a collective slogan for Baba, i.e. A'ma'der Baba ki – Jai! More about this slogan is described below.

THIRD GRADE OF DEVOTEES & THEIR SLOGAN

And finally, in the lowest stage of devotion, there is an even less personal link or more distant relation, where first and foremost one feels that Parama Purusa is the collective property of all.

“The devotees of the lowest category think, “As Parama Purus'a belongs to all, so certainly He belongs to me as well because I am one of the multitude.” Thoughts of this type are not very congenial for one's spiritual progress.” (3)

Thus the critical difference between the 2nd & 3rd grade bhaktas is as follows. The 2nd grade bhakta thinks that Parama Purusa is mine, and then reasons that He must belong to others as well. The 3rd grade bhakta thinks that Baba belongs to all and then reasons that therefore He must also be mine. In either case, they do not have a close, personal, intimate relation with Parama Purusa. That is why they also raise a collective the slogan – A'ma'der Baba ki –Jai! Note: A'ma'der means our.

COMPARING THE VARIOUS GRADES

Hence Baba's statement that these latter two stages are not very conducive for spiritual growth, i.e. coming close to Him. Because such persons do not have a personal relation with Parama Purusa.

Since we are all familiar with Baba's teachings on this subject, we can wrap it up in one sentence. When one feels more close with Parama Purusa, the bhakta thinks that. “He is mine and mine alone.” They have a personal relation with Parama Purusa and are immersed in the deeply devotional feeling that, “Baba is mine – He belongs only to me.” They do not raise the slogan – A'ma'der / Our Baba ki – Jai! More about this below.

LEVELS OF JAI SLOGANS

The devotional feelings outlined above come into form in so many aspects of our lives: In our conversations, manan (thinking of Him), and in our reflections, stories etc, including the way in which we raise the Jai slogan.

For instance, the most intimate and devotional way of raising the jai slogan is: Parama Pita Baba ki – Jai! In this manner, the basic spirit is Victory to my Baba, my Father, my nearest, my own. The sense is that one's mind is pointed on the Divine Father, Parama Purusa in a more personal way where He belongs to me.

The possessive pronoun – my – is understood as people always think of their father as “my father”. No one thinks our father.

The overall meaning is: Victory to My (personal) Divine Father Baba. They do not raise the slogan – A'ma'der Baba ki – jai! More about this below.

In other places – such as in parts of Bengal, Ananda Nagar, and other places – there is another way the jai slogan is raised. Bengali speaking Dadas regularly bring the slogan: A'ma'der Baba ki – jai!

A'ma'der means ‘Our'; Baba ki means ‘of Baba'; jai means ‘victory'.

The overall meaning is: Victory to Our (collective) Baba.

The sense is that Parama Purusa belongs to all, He is the collective property of everyone and not the personal possession of a single bhakta. The overall meaning is: Victory to Our (collective) Baba.

In terms of spiritual life this type of ideation is not at all beneficial – rather it is detrimental and limiting.

The slogan – A'ma'der Baba ki – jai! – is a less personal expression and reflects 3rd grade devotion since one is thinking that Parama Purusa belongs to all.

“The devotees of the lowest category think, “Parama Purus'a belongs to all...Thoughts of this type are not very congenial for one's spiritual progress.” (4)

In that case, they raise the – A'ma'der Baba ki – jai! - slogan, where Parama Purusa, is shared in a collective manner. He is not one's personal property. This type of thinking is ultravarious to devotional closeness.

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION

Here we should clarify that this does not mean that everyone who speaks Bengali is of lower devotion or that anyone who has ever raised this slogan is a lower tier bhakta. It is not like that at all.

Rather, we can say that those leading this slogan are more responsible. After all they are the ones who selected the slogan. The margiis and wts in attendance may or may not feel this way. After all, they are just responding to the call. They are not deciding the way in which the slogan is raised. The key point is that first grade devotees should not blindly follow this lower slogan, otherwise that is a dogma.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Madhumita Bose

Dark Skin Is A Plus

For Those Living in a Warm Climate

Because of their inferiority complex, many around the globe want to whiten their skin. They do not know that one's skin colour is for the well-being and safety of their body. God has specially designed and proteced them in this way. In hot climates, melanin is a natural chemical in the skin and that makes the skin dark. And that dark skin tone protects them. But due to their inferiority complex, some people want to become white. They do not know that they are destroying themselves and may die a premature death due to skin cancer. Yet dark skin is good for health in those hot regions. The solution is that those with dark skin suffering from an inferiority complex should understand that dark skin has specific benefits. Even in colder areas, it get warm for a few months each year, so in that case also those with dark skin get direct medical benefits, especially when involved in outdoor activities. While white-skinned people do not get those benefits. So dark skin is a plus.

"The greater the heat of the sun, the greater the amount of ultraviolet rays in the sunlight. A study of geography tells us why there are differences in the degree of heat of the sun’s rays. Where the sun’s rays fall on earth obliquely, there is less heat of the sun, and where the sun’s rays fall straight on the earth, the heat is greater. In very hot countries white-skinned people find it very hard to live, because their skin, having less of the chemical substance called melanin, is unable to stand much heat. Body skin with a great quantity of melanin in it turns jet black, and obviously a lesser quantity of melanin makes one’s skin white."

"If ever white people are forced for some reason to live long in a hot climate, their colour turns brown. In 1939-40, when British soldiers came to India for war purposes, their colour became brown due to the great heat. Naturally, as the skin of these soldiers had to adjust with the hot climate of India, there were some necessary changes in their skin to effect acclimatisation." Toma'r Abha've: This phrase - toma'r abha've - (from the first line of Prabhat Samgiita #4863) signifies the stage of glani described in these following quotes.

"Whenever dharma comes into a secondary position, a degraded position, a depraved position; that is, dharma is being defeated by adharma." (AV-1, The Advent of the Lord)

"Normally when the number of atipátakiis and mahápátakiis increases out of proportion, the responsibility of saving society rests with the sadvipras. But when the mahápátakiis in society outnumber the atipátakiis, Parama Puruśa descends on earth armed with His special power." (DKG, “Tadátmánaḿ Srjámyaham”)

"The deviation of any object from its normal state is called gláni. The normal state of dharma means movement in accordance with dharma, not movement towards nature. When mental sin reaches the punishable stage, the gláni of dharma sets in." (DKG, “Tadátmánaḿ Srjámyaham”)

"Visa'de basudha' chilo eka' toma'r abha've..." - P.S. #4863

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa Baba, prior to Your holy advent, in the absence of You (toma'r abha've) and Your guideline, this whole earth was drowned in materialism, dogma, and misery. Everything was on this globe, but Your divine guideline was missing. So whatever little effulgence was present turned black because of the dominance of the pitch dark Cimmerian night of materialism. The light was not even able to shine because of the extreme dominance of the staticity of selfishness & dogma. O' Parama Purusa, Your advent was highly needed.

In the past, in the sky of the human heart there was a moon, but it was covered with the clouds of dogma – i.e. improper thinking that was full of ignorance and based on materialism. In the forest, there were flowers but because everyone's mind was restless a tense they were unable to smell the flower fragrance. They could not perceive that beauty. In the past, the birds and peacocks were on the branches of the tree, but they were not chirping or singing. They were crying in agony, sitting in their lonely way. In the corner of my mind there was loneliness and longing for You. Without spirituality, there was no peace. Even Lord Shiva’s teachings were distorted and changed into dogma. The crimson dawn was covered by the smog.

O' Parama Purusa, by smashing the Cimmerian darkness Your made Your advent. Baba, You have vibrated everyone’s existence with Your divine flow. It is Your grace, Baba, only Your grace...

Namaskar,
One time when we were returning from DMS, on the train so many persons were there-- both margiis and non-margiis. And in many cases people were travelling together. So some persons had traveled to DMS as a single attendee whereas as others traveled to DMS with their entire family including their kids.

So in their natural way, on the train, those kids were quarreling and playing with the other children.

Then one new margii became quite agitated by their behavior and he passed some offensive remark that these small kids are very negative-- they pollute the sanctity and turn the whole peaceful environment into chaos. Then he went so far to accuse that: 'Why do you bring them to these spiritual gatherings'.

Then other persons jumped in and replied that in our Marga the system is that the whole family is welcome to attend our all functions.

Then the new margiis replied that, 'No, the kids are just one disturbance or nuisance. Let them grow because now they are so small and they do not understand anything. Just they are involved in their negative quarreling. They have no sense about what should be done and what should not be done. Those who are a bit older and well-behaved then they should come. Otherwise why should these other kids come and do negative things.'

A few margiis then together tried to convince him that our approach is different. Kids are innocent and just it is their nature to sometimes quarrel with one another.

So back and forth discussion was going and ultimately they could not reach on to the proper common point. And in due course the situation subsided.

But since that occasion it was in my mind to talk to other margiis and get their opinions and then write something for everyone to review.

ALL ARE FAMILY MEMBERS

Sincere margiis know well that in our Marga, everyone is considered as family member whether they be a new-born baby or a 110 year old person. All belong to our family and they have equal rights and we give importance to one and all.

And together our AM family is not only youths, or only elderly persons, but a grand mix of people from young to old and everything in between.

It is just like in a garden if only one type of flower is there then that is not quite proper or colorful. But rather all various types are there-- just like in a bouquet that includes a wide variety of flowers. All get collected and that brings more charm. That is the way it works.

BABA'S GUIDELINE

So on this very point here are some of Baba's guidelines about how we should be mindful of children:

Baba says, "Society must ensure that proper care is taken of human babies who are totally dependent on the care and protection of their parents for their existence. These helpless children can only convey their pain and discomfort through tears. To raise children from infancy to maturity is an immensely important task." (AFPS-6)

So our Guru guides that in viewing the society, the requisite factor is a magnanimous mind which is full of graceful feeling and sweet expression for those innocent children who are under our care and protection. Means those who do not have that vast mind full of love, cannot view one and all as members of our neo-humanistic family. Because if the person
himself is narrow minded or frustrated, then in their outlook that frustration will appear.

The sense is that the sweet heart of one balanced person will never cast any negative, sarcastic remarks toward such tender age innocent babies / kids.

EVERYONE WAS ONCE A CHILD

Because everyone, whether young or old, was a baby in the past and the babies' cry is very natural. Where babies are, surely they cry. And if inside one's heart is pure and loving, then the cry of the babies is not suffocative or negative which can be called as demonic act.  But if  inside someone is frustrated then everything in this world looks dry, harsh,
parched, ugly, crude, negative, etc.

When such frustrated persons see birds chirping in the tree, they feel agitated and brand birds as 'nuisance creator'. And in response they throw stones on those bushes to shoe those birds away.

A few days back my neighbor was doing like this. When I saw here I felt sad thinking the state of her mind. Actually he was in depressed and frustrated mood. That is why he was throwing stones in all the bushes around his house to get rid from the sweet chirping songs of the bird. Because he was irritated by that.

SOCIETY IS RESPONSIBLE

If the baby does anything wrong then discredit goes to the society, parents or to everyone. This discredit never goes to the baby because they are innocent. Sweet, kind, benevolent, motherly heart feels like this. Those who have that type of heart understand, or I should say, they only can understand my feeling. I have experience that those who have devotion they also can understand because of their feeling of divine love.

But those who are frustrated within, their expression and talk reflects that.

PURE AS SNOW

In contrast Baba guides us in the gospel of Bhagavad dharma.

"Kaomar...."

In this description Baba says that small babies are as pure as divine, because they do not have any negativity towards anyone. And it is working in 100% cases up to the age of 5. So in common society if anything right or wrong is done by small kids, then balanced people ignore that. And they will not pollute the environment by raucously blaming the children.

BABA'S DMC GATHERINGS: CHILDREN ATTENDED

Here is one reminder that we have seen even with Baba's presence during DMC. At such an important event and gathering as DMC, that time mothers with infants and mothers with new-borns were always allowed to participate.

Often the babies were crying and Baba was just moving ahead with His program and continuing with His discourse. And if the crying became very loud, then politely it was suggested to take them temporarily outside. That is all. Nobody seriously believed the baby should be banned. They thought that in AM society the cry of baby is one beauty. Because this brings one color in DMC. And it gives the feeling that in our AM society everyone is the member. From infant to senior citizens. Everyone has right to participate
in spiritual gathering.

DHARMA IS FOR ALL

Ananda Marga also says that dharma is not only for polished so-called elite
people only. Dharma is for all.

Baba says, "I dedicate A'nanda Ma'rga in this DMC to all sections of society...from this DMC onwards I have become a man of the people because I believe that dharma is the property of the masses, not the exclusive monopoly of a handful of so-called educated middle class elite. Dharma belongs to one and all. From this DMC, I recognise it as the property of the common people." (AV-7)

SOME IMPORTANT BABA'S GUIDELINES ABOUT CHILDREN

Note 1: Here below Baba sheds more insight into the nature of children.

Baba says, "Children are by nature most inclined towards play, so a thirst for knowledge will have to be awakened in children through the medium of play -- children should be educated through play methods. Children are also by nature inclined to listen to fantasies and stories. Through stories children can easily be taught the history and geography of various countries, and they may also be taught the initial lessons of how to practise universalism in their lives. Children love play and stories almost equally, so in their case the two should be equally utilized." (HS-1)

Note 2: Here Baba gives us one golden guideline about parenting and raising children.

Baba says, "In order to develop a healthy outlook, the most important thing children need is robust idealism. To impart this, parents require only two virtues: self-restraint and good judgement." (HS-1)

Note 3: Baba guides in this below quote that children raise children in the proper manner because they are the future of society.

Baba says, "[It] is essential to sow the seeds of true development in the minds of children and to ensure that these seeds grow into small seedlings, flourish, and bring forth foliage, flowers and fruits" (HS-1)

PS Intro: In this following song the devotee is talking to Baba, all the
while indirectly referring about himself.

"Jeo na', shon'o katha, bojha vytha', abujha hoyo na'..."  (PS 660)

Purport:

Baba, please be gracious, please do not leave me all alone, please do not go far away; please keep me in Your shelter. Baba, please listen to the tale of my aching heart; please understand my pain and suffering-- because of my deep longing for You. Baba, I beg You not to remain aloof about my yearning and crying for You. Baba, You have graced me and have made the flower of devotion blossom in my heart. And these flowers are solely for making one beautiful garland for You-- ultimately surrendering them at Your lotus feet. Baba, please do not mercilessly crush those flowers. Baba, please be gracious.

Baba, by Your infinite grace please keep me close. Please do not permanently forget about that person who is under shelter day and night. Baba, it seems You have removed him from Your memory. Baba, please recall how in the past You loved him deeply up to his heart's content. That time You saturated his mind with bliss and filled his eyes with Your loving gaze. You were so gracious those days. Baba, You know that very person was with You in each and every rhythm of the song, he was also with You in all kinds of works-- always remaining by Your side. Baba, please do not forget him.

Baba, by Your grace I never forget this eternal truth that You are everything. You are the effulgence of the day as well as the darkness of the night. Baba, in this life of mine I have loved only You. Baba, You are the heart of my heart. Please shower Your divine grace on me day and night, incessantly. Baba, even if You always remain forgetful of me, that I can tolerate. Only I ask one thing of You. Baba, please do not push me away from Your holy, lotus feet.   Baba, You are my closest & dearest One. You are my everything. Baba, please keep me in Your shelter...

The Place of Occult Powers in AM

Baba says, "In spiritual life as well as in ordinary life, if one retains
simplicity it is helpful for the attainment of God; through this one's life
and mind become filled with the effulgence of Parama Purusa. This is the
supreme attainment. Spying out every nook and cranny of the eight occult
powers is another name for stupidity." (SC-2, p.149)

Note: Unfortunately in the general society people think that occult powers
themselves are the essence of spirituality. Indeed, devoid of occult
powers, such persons do not have any concept of spirituality. In AM however
it is different; it is not like that. In our Marga devotion gets utmost
importance.

== CHEATS IN MEDICAL BUSINESS ==

Namaskar,
One of the main tragedies that has befallen society in this era of extreme capitalism is that the practice of medicine has become a business.

Today, doctors are no longer doctors and patients are no longer patients. Instead, doctors have become businessmen trying to maximize their profit - no longer is the welfare of the patient their main interest; and patients have become targets of exploitation - no longer are they viewed as sick people in need of care.

Such is the sorry state of the medical profession these days. Certainly there are always exceptions but this is the overwhelming trend these days, as evidenced by the two articles appended below.

MEDICINE STARTED AS A SERVICE INDUSTRY

In earlier times doctors were revered for their compassion. To enter the field, doctors would take an oath to work for the welfare of humanity. In turn, people truly felt that they could trust their lives in the hands of doctors. The doctors looked upon patients with a compassionate eye; in turn, the common people viewed doctors with deep regard, deservedly so.

After all, a patient is not in a position to make their own decisions; they depended upon their doctor. And this worked fine because the doctors were guided by a service mentality.

Baba says, "Doctors: The convenience of the patient must be given more consideration than your own." (CC-2, Society, Point #25a)

Now all that has changed. Doctors feel that they paid huge tuition to attend medical school and now it is their right to earn exponentially more money even at the cost of the well-being of the patient; and patients feel that they can no longer trust their doctor - let alone afford the treatment.

Baba says, "No matter what country you belong to, tell me honestly, how many doctors can you really trust and respect?" (Human Society-1, Various Occupations)

So the situation has really deteriorated wherein patients bear the terrible burden, both medically and financially. Surgeons recommend surgery that is not needed just to earn extra income; doctors perform and order far more tests than are needed in order to produce a bigger bill and earn a commission from the lab; medical professionals become paid advocates for drug companies and "push" particular medicines on their patients; indeed, there are many aspects of medicine that have become tainted.

This article addresses the procedure known as cesarean section.

C-SECTION:

A WAY TO MAKE MONEY AND MAKE LIFE EASY

(FOR THE DOCTOR)

To boost business, doctors are performing more and more cesarean sections - even when such procedures are not needed. The numbers are quite staggering and at all-time highs, 50% in China of all births are done via C-section and 30+% in the US. Indeed in all countries the numbers are rising.

The days of natural child birth are no longer practiced on a mass-level in today's medical business. Rather doctors persuade and goad mothers into doing unnecessary C-sections, despite the health risks this poses to both mother and baby, in order to increase profits.

By performing C-sections doctors can maximize their time, fill the beds and not face the "delays" associated with natural deliveries. Now they schedule all births on a cost-effective timetable for maximizing profits. Not to mention that the procedure itself is costly / profitable. So even if a C-section is not needed they recommend and perform it anyway just to heighten sales. Once a mom has one C-section, then all her future pregnancies will end in a C-section as well. It is automatic business.

This what has become of the today's medical system.

In addition, if they have a day off or a vacation planned, they can simply perform the C-section the day before so as not to interrupt their free time, golf game or vacation. Gone are the days when doctors dutifully go to the hospital in the middle of the night to deliver a baby.

No doubt, there are certain occasions when there is no option but to perform cesarean section; but to resort to this procedure as a matter of course or as the default is quite harmful. It truly jeopardizes the well-being of both mother and baby. Yet doctors do this to boost profits.

CURSE OF UNNATURAL BIRTH

Infants delivered by C-section are prone towards allergies, asthma, diabetes, and various infections, not to mention the baby does not get opportunity to mature fully in the womb. The fetus is generally removed prematurely and loses the built-in benefits of a natural birth such and the squeezing and clearing of the lungs.

TERRIBLE SIN

All in all this is the worst type of sin: Exploiting the helpless and betraying the trust patients who are in their hour of need. It is truly quite shocking to witness how greedy doctors have wrecked the field of medicine and health care.

If one has a good doctor whom they trust then they are really fortunate. Otherwise they will face the horror tales as described appended. They will just become a statistic.

SOLUTION

In an ideal society, in a Proutistic society, only those driven by a service mentality will go into the field of medicine and become doctors. The medical profession is not the place to start doing business. In exchange for their commitment, those medical students should be given financial help to pursue their education.

Such a shift is necessary because how can common people live peacefully in a society where they cannot trust doctors. If a doctor is going to continually perform C-sections when such a procedure is not necessary, then where is the trust.

Given the current situation, everyone must be extremely careful and not blindly trust doctors, on any issue. Fueled by their business mentality and cheating tactics, such doctors can can cheat, deceive, manipulate, and betray. This is a far cry from what doctors were in the past and will be in future.

BABA'S TEACHINGS

Here I close this letter with Baba's divine teachings; be sure to read the two new articles pasted below.

Baba says, "Of all the doctors you have come across, how many are idealistic and dutiful? If you visit a doctor, he will prescribe strong medicines for a light illness. This will inevitably be the case if he owns his or her own dispensary. But the same will be the case if the doctor operates a “chamber practice” out of his home; he will force some patent medicine down the patient’s throat." (Human Society-1, Various Occupations)

Baba then describes the ideal way to direct the medical establishment.

Baba says, "The medical profession as such has more to do with social service than with professionalism. Social service is the main aim of the medical profession.... it cannot be categorized as a business under any circumstances. A helpless person, no matter how great his financial, social or intellectual capacity, considers a doctor to be a ray of light in the darkness or a lifeboat which can save him from drowning." (Human Society-1, Various Occupations)

C-section rates around globe at ‘epidemic’ levels

Half moms in China have the surgery; rates high in other countries

1/12/2010 5:45:40 PM ET
Nearly half of all births in China are delivered by cesarean section, the world’s highest rate, according to a survey by the World Health Organization — a shift toward modernization that isn’t necessarily a good thing.
The boom in unnecessary surgeries is jeopardizing women's health, the U.N. health agency warned in the report published online Tuesday in the medical journal The Lancet.
Unnecessary C-sections are costlier than natural births and raise the risk of complications for the mother, said the report surveying nine Asian nations. It noted C-sections have reached “epidemic proportions” in many countries worldwide.
The most dramatic findings were in China, where 46 percent of births reviewed were C-sections — a quarter of them not medically necessary, the report said...
The WHO, which reviewed nearly 110,000 births across Asia in 2007-2008, found 27 percent were done under the knife, partially motivated by hospitals eager to make more money.

That mirrors similar results reported by WHO in 2005 from Latin America, where 35 percent of pregnant women surveyed were delivering by C-section.

30 percent of U.S. births are C-sections

In the U.S., where C-sections are at an all-time high of 31 percent, the surgery is often performed on older expectant mothers, during multiple births or simply because patients request it or doctors fear malpractice lawsuits...

Women undergoing C-sections that are not medically necessary are more likely to die or be admitted into intensive care units, require blood transfusions or encounter complications that lead to hysterectomies, the WHO study found.

U.S. studies have shown babies born by cesarean have a greater chance for respiratory problems...

Some hospitals motivated by higher fees
The study did not discuss specific reasons for the high number of C-sections, but it noted that more than 60 percent of the hospitals studied were motivated by financial incentives to perform surgeries.

At Vietnam’s National Hospital of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Hanoi, about 40 percent of the 20,000 babies delivered there annually are by C-section, said Dr. Le Anh Tuan, the hospital’s vice director, who did not participate in the study.

Some expectant mothers in Latin America scheduled elective surgeries to avoid giving birth during holidays or even so they could attend parties, said Dr. Archana Shah, from the WHO in Geneva,

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34826186/ns/health-pregnancy/t/C-section-rates-around-globe-epidemic-levels/

For-profit hospitals performing more C-sections

For-profit hospitals across the state are performing cesarean sections at higher rates than nonprofit hospitals, a California Watch analysis has found.
A database compiled from state birthing records revealed that, all factors considered, women are at least 17 percent more likely to have a cesarean section at a for-profit hospital than at one that operates as a non-profit. A surgical birth can bring in twice the revenue of a natural delivery.
In addition, some hospitals appear to be performing more C-sections for non-medical reasons – including an individual doctor’s level of patience and the staffing schedules in maternity wards, according to interviews with health professionals....
At the for-profit Los Angeles Community Hospital, women had a 47 percent chance of undergoing a surgical birth. When you factor in moms who needed to have C-sections for medical reasons, the Los Angeles hospital’s rate jumps to 59 percent. In Riverside County, hospitals just miles apart had dramatically different rates, even though they serve essentially the same population.
The numbers provide ammunition to those who have long suspected that unnecessary C-sections are performed to help pad the bottom line.
“This data is compelling and strongly suggests, as many childbirth advocates currently suspect, that there may be a provable connection between profit and the cesarean rate," said Desirre Andrews, president of the International Cesarean Awareness Network, a nonprofit group that would like to see C-sections only in cases of medical need.
To doctors and other health professionals, the results of the analysis were troubling...

Gene Declercq, professor of community health sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health, agrees that hospitals would not explicitly push C-sections for profit. But subtle incentives to increase efficiency could have the same effect.
“There are factors that are attractive to hospitals in terms of training and staff and facilities,” he said. “It’s a lot easier if you can do all your births between seven and 10 in the morning and know exactly how many operating rooms and beds you need.” Natural births are unpredictable, creating inefficiencies that can hurt the bottom line...

For some, a C-section can have devastating consequences.
After Heather Kirwan had been in labor for a few hours her doctor at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta urged her to have a C-section, warning that the baby was too big for her birth canal. She reluctantly agreed to the procedure, but now questions that decision.
“She ended up being a 5-pound, 12-ounce baby,” said Kirwan, 26, a manager for The Home Depot who lives in Murrieta. “So that was obviously a lie.”
A year and a half later, Kirwan was pregnant again, but the doctors found that the embryo was developing outside the uterus. Before her C-section, Kirwan said no one had warned her that C-sections increase the risk of this life-threatening condition, called ectopic pregnancy. And if it were listed in her lengthy consent form at the time of her first delivery, Kirwan said, no one bothered to point it out....

"Toma'ke peyeo pa'i na keno..."   (P.S. #2056)

Purport:

Baba, I feel in my heart that You are along with me, but even then I do not feel satisfied. I want more and more of Your proximity and presence. So please come in my mind and heart. Please remain along with me in a very intimate way in all my works. Grace me so that I can feel your eternal presence always-- with more & more closeness and proximity.

Baba You know that my existence is because of You. My life is proceeding on by Your grace; my everything is based on You. Day and night I am deeply engaged in the work which You have allotted me. I am divinely intoxicated in the ideation of the songs which I have made into a garland for You. So Baba please come closer and still more close. Indeed You know the language of my heart- my inner feeling & sentiments. O' Baba, how much love I have for You.

Baba, please grace me and please do not play Your liila of hide and seek. Please do not remain inaccessible...

WT Conduct Rule: Dealings

Baba says, "Supervisory workers will have to take proper care of each of their supervised staff in all respects." (Pt #2 of 'Six Additional Rules')

Note: This is a very significant rule but in today's Wt culture supervisory bosses are more focused on emptying the pockets of their subordinates and using them for their groupist schemes. This is the only "care" they do. In future when standard of devotion in supervisory workers is higher, these rules are likely to be followed in which case the situation will be better.
