BABA

                == A LITTLE COURAGE NEEDED ==

Note: The divine and auspicious advent of Taraka Brahma onto the planet is
one holy and magnificent event. In the entire world population, only Ananda
Margiis are aware about His great arrival. As His disciples, we are then
responsible for referring to Baba in the proper way-- using the proper name
according to our AM system. And by this way the entire globe will learn
correctly what to do. This below letter revolves around this key point
regarding reverence to Guru.

Namaskar,
When anybody opens the book of our Prout series, then we see Baba's photo
there. And if one looks carefully at that photo, they will notice Baba's
signature is in the Bangla language. And it is clearly written, -- "Shrii
Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar". This is Baba's pristine example. By this way anyone
can understand that Baba is the writer, and His full name is Shrii Prabhat
Ranjan Sarkar. Not just 'P.R. Sarkar'.

However, those who are totally ignorant may not know these things. Their
undesirable position is somewhat understandable-- since in their blind
ignorance they do not know what to write.

Whereas those who suffer do not have adoration or reverence for Guru, or
those don't care about Guru's teaching, their despicable condition far, far,
worse-- intolerable. Because they know the proper way but to follow their
own dogmatic beliefs and mundane styles, they fail to follow Baba's prescribed
system.

On and off again a few "top" AM writers fall into this negative and dirty category.

SHRII SHRII ANANDAMURTIJI IS BHAGAWAN & TARAKA BRAHMA

As we know our Baba - Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji - is not only Bhagawan,
but furthermore He is Taraka Brahma.

While explaining the term Bhagawan, Baba has told that the Personality who has
bhaga is called Bhagawan. And the term Bhaga means the collection of six
attributes. These attributes are: (1) Aeshvara, (2) Viryam, (3) Yasa, (4) Shrii,
(5) Jinanam, and (6) Vairagya. In 'Jaeva Dharma and Bhagavata Dharma' reveals this fact.

Baba says, "The meaning of the word Bhaga is 'Aeshvarayamca samagram
viiryamca yashasah shriyah Jinana-vaergyamca sanaam bhagaiti smrta'. Bhaga is
the collection of six attributes." (SS part 21)

We can see then that bhaga is just the collection of six attributes or qualities.
And one of the qualities is 'Shrii'. Indeed, 'Shrii' is the 4th attribution of
the Lord. And the meaning of Shrii is "attraction" or "charm".

That is why we have always seen that Baba uses the term 'Shrii' before His name.
Two times. While writing His name He writes Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, not
just Anandamurtiji or Shrii Anandamurtiji. He prefers Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji.
Or double 'Shrii' before His name.

And it is our duty as disciples to follow His guideline-- to follow Baba's example.

Thus we must emulate His given system and use the preface Baba's names with 'Shrii":
Such as Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji or Shrii PR Sarkar, whichever is needed.

USING SHRII IN OUR PERSONAL LIVES

Plus we all should put at least one Shrii before our own name.

Baba says, "Those, who want to make themselves the attraction or the ideal of the world,
add a "Shrii" before their names." (SS part 19)

Certainly, in so-called modern society, it may be uncommon to use 'Shrii' before the
name, but because this is AM culture that is why we should use it.

NOT PRAISEWORTHY TO USE NON-SANSKRIT NAMES

As we have seen in the past that when Sanskrit names were introduced into
our AM society, then in the beginning many were feeling uncomfortable or
reluctant to use their Sanskrit names in public. And some still today in
their day to day worldly dealings do not like to use their Sanskrit name.
I think all this happened because of a weakness of the mind and lack of
proper moral strength. In Subhasita Samgraha part 3, Baba explains that
those who suffer from such a weakness of mind due to materialism or other
negative philosophies get such psychic complexes.

Baba says, "Those who are reared in the cradle of materialistic ideologies,
feel shy or ashamed at first to sit in meditation in the presence of others."
(SS pt 3, p.86)

Likewise, those who do not like to use their own Sanskrit name are not
doing something great or praiseworthy etc. Rather their faulty manner is
the expression of a weak mind. It is clear by Baba's above guideline.

Pseudo-culture is such a prevalent thing, and using non-Sanskrit name
is a "gift" of pseudo-culture. In current times pseudo-culture permeates
nearly every aspect of life, so sometimes it is hard to recognize easily.

                 BABA'S SPECIAL TEACHING / WARNING

HOW PSEUDO-CULTURE GETS SPREAD; HOW DOGMAS TAKE ROOT

In His 'Exploitation and Pseudo-Culture' chapter of Neo-Humanism, Baba
explains that via the medium of theatre & cinema, rich people impose
their low and degraded styles of art and dance on other societies. And
because of their inferiority complex, innocent people start copying that
and fall into pseudo-culture. Unfortunately they adopt it quickly. And
even worse is that they feel honored. It is such a pity that they leave
their beautiful customs and culture and adopt pseudo-culture and feel
glorified by that. This problem is rampant these days.

This very stage is very detrimental. Those whose backbone is broken by
the heavy weight of pseudo-culture are a burden and cannot do anything.

Baba says, "If their cultural backbone is broken, then all their struggles
will end in nothing--like offering clarified butter to a sacrificial fire
which has been reduced to ashes. If one's spine is shattered, it is
impossible to hold one's head erect. Can those whose necks and backs are
crushed under the weight of pseudoculture, be expected to hold their
heads high in any sphere of life?" (NH-LOI)

Unfortunately some in our AM have fallen into this position.

Here we should remember that Baba has taught us that in our AM culture
we are to use 'Shrii' before the name. This is the given system.

Unfortunately, some of are obsessed with various dogma and with that psychic
disease they don't want to leave that dirty, negative path or tradition
which is going on in outdated local social ethics. Because of this, in our
European countries, usually a few people don't understand the value of
the term "Shrii" writing before the name.

SIMILAR PROBLEM ALL AROUND THE GLOBE

Similarly, in India religious dogmatic people are attached with the dogma of
'Holy Land'. And in which environment people are reared, they are negatively
affected by those local dogmatic beliefs of their areas. And that becomes
their ingrained habit. And they don't like to leave those outdated ideas and
mend their path. That is why the India population is swayed toward crude
dogmatic tiirthas etc.

But true Ananda Margiis are not like that.

Likewise, respect and reverence to Guru is not very common in present crude
society. That's why certain imbalanced margiis, they don't like to give reverence
to Guru in their writing. They fail to preface Baba's name with Shrii etc. Just
in casual way, they refer to Baba as "P.R. Sarkar". That is highly disrespectful.

JUST A LITTLE COURAGE IS NEEDED

Also, 40-50 years ago in European countries, meditation or yoga asanas were
looked upon as something very negative, like witchcraft. The general people
were scared to practice-- or at the very least embarrassed. But with the efforts
of courageous people it became common and now Yoga is well respected-- indeed it
is the latest rage; everyone is doing it. And all capitalist companies show people
doing meditation in their advertisements. Similarly if we start using 'Shrii'
before the name, then without any delay, it will become common and well-respected.

Just like we are follow many Sanskrit terms in our general talking style,
and we are using those as we have become habituated to them. Such as the term
jagrti, we do not call it a temple, mosque or church. Likewise we use the
term Dharmacakra; we do not call it prayer or namaj or yajina.

And, we do not call AM a religion, rather we use the word dharma. Also we use
'namaskar' and not "Hi" or "hello" or namaste or Salaam Vale Kum. Or Ram Ram.
Rather we use namaskar as our salutation--with folded hands not shaking hands.

All these dharmic approaches have been incorporated into AM life.

                   NOT FALL PREY TO PSEUDO-CULTURE

Similarly it is our duty as Ananda Margiis to not fall prey to pseudo-culture.
The whole society is waiting for our guideline. Baba has given everything. Our
duty is to first practice in our life, and then help to guide others and
bring them in the proper path. Due to a lack of proper guidelines and due to
faulty theories the whole society is moving in a confused state, misguided
direction. We should not allow this to continue-- nor introduce any negative ways.

                     BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POINT

Back to the original point about using the word 'Shrii'. A few AM "writers"
should remove the inferiority complex from their mind. And they should throw
away their affinity towards pseudo-culture and instead follow Baba's guideline --
and use the word 'Shrii' before Baba's name. That will be very helpful for
them and the entire society.

It is Baba's system that He prefers that His name should prefixed with Shrii.
That's why He signs in this way. So what way He prefers, we should address
Him like that.

                         BABA'S BLESSING

Here below Baba is guiding us that all sadhakas of the Marga ensconced in
Supreme Benevolence are sure to build up that pristine, unified human society.

Baba says, "Moving together with the people they will continue to sing their
marching song-- they will go on filling the human mind with the sweet nectar of
eternal life." (Prout-10, p. 5)

Namaskar,
Mahendra

Note 1:              THE PHOTO IN THE PROUT BOOKS

In this photo in our Prout PNS series Baba is young looking. Although the photo
has been placed there in the Prout series in 1987, but Baba's photo is from the
50's. The reason is, that revolutionary cadres like to see their preceptors or
nucleus leader to be young looking. So that's why this photo of Baba has been
kept in the social philosophy book in Prout in a Nutshell.

Note 2:                   DON'T DISPLEASE BABA

Casual and crude way of referring to Sadguru is not only objectionable but absolutely
abominable. Nobody should do such sin. In the scripture it is said, "Shive rusto..."
The meaning is that if Guru is displeased, then nobody can save that person.
Reverence and pleasing Guru is very important. To do this, Baba taught us many
things including how to address Parama Purusa, Mahasambhuti, Taraka Brahma.

To teach us Baba has given very clear example while writing the books about
Shiva and Krsna. The names of these two books themselves are very honorable
and respectful.

For example Lord Shiva's book is "Namah Shivaya Shantaya". And the meaning is,
"Salutations to Lord Shiva who is the Ever-Tranquil Divine Entity." And similar
way about Lord Krsna Baba has titled the book as "Namami Krsna Sundaram". That
is, "Salutations to Lord Krsna Who is the Ever Beautiful and Charming Divine Entity".

By this way Baba has given one glorious example. And the motive was only to
teach us, how we should address Guru. He does not address Lord Shiva and Lord Krsna
in a casual manner.

So when we refer to Baba it should be done in the most reverential and respectful terms.

Note 3:              SMALL MISTAKES DO A LOT OF DAMAGE

MUST USE "SHRII" OR "SHRII SHRII"

The mention of PR Sarkar without putting "Shrii" in front is most disrespect to our
Guru Baba, who is Taraka Brahma.

Even then due to their extreme naiveté or foolishness, some persons may be imagining in
their brains that this is just a "small thing".  So for those who may be thinking in
this misguided fashion, please consider these following examples:

Suppose, for instance, if one is walking in a dry, dirty area, and gets covered with
dust. That may not be bothersome to the person. But if one tiny grain of dust gets
in the eye. Then it will be a big problem. So something small may create chaos.
Depending upon how critical it is.

Suppose someone puts their shoes on their head instead of on their feet. It may seem
like a small mistake, but it will create a big problem.

Suppose a person tries to walk upside down, with their head on the ground. This may seem
like a simple thing, but it will create huge difficulties.

Or suppose if someone cuts off their nose. The nose may be something small, but cutting
off the nose will derange their entire face.

So by these above examples it becomes clear that "small things" can create huge
errors and much harm. And as such one can hardly call those things as small,
inconsequential errors. Rather they become serious problems which need to be
addressed and corrected.

Because on the top, we all are aware about Lord Shiva's teachings on the
'Secrets of Success'. And two of those secrets are:

       (1) Shraddha' (deep reverence for the Goal (Ista); and
       (2) Guru Puja, (respectful offering and surrender to the Guru).

So these are two of the Secrets of Success which Baba Himself highlights in so
many discourses. So see then how essential it is to have deep respect for the Guru.
And to express that properly. And in AM that is our way-- to give maximum respect to
BABA, Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, the Granter of salvation.

So consider that something supposedly small like putting "Shrii" before Baba's
name, it has tremendous importance. And not doing so creates huge negativity by
its being most extremely disrespectful to that divine Entity.

Note 4:           NEGATIVE HABIT OF OUR SOME AM "WRITERS"

Unfortunately some of our most "prolific" writers in AM nowadays ahve fallen into
the extremely negative habit of just writing 'PR Sarkar'-- and in some cases
they just write 'Sarkar'. By quickly surveying the books, articles, and emails
of "writers" then we can see this unfortunate form of expression.

And overall this has a negative effect across the entire society.

Because then non-margii writers adopt this same ungainly approach and they just
write 'PR Sarkar'. Whereas if such mundane writers were aware that our "top"
writers and margiis always respectfully refer to Revered Baba as 'Shrii
Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar' or 'Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji' then they would get
a good teaching and follow our example.

It is just like how mundane or non-British reporters always refer to 'Prince
Charles' using the reference of 'Prince'. Never do they just write 'Charles'
or 'Charlie'. And if they did then the public would object. Because everyone has
become taught and trained that 'Prince Charles' is the proper way.

Although we are not trying to emulate the British monarchy etc, but this
particular point is meaningful. The idea being that if we ourselves are
perfectly consistent in always giving proper reference to Baba as 'Shrii
PR Sarkar' or 'Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji' then people of the general
society will also follow suit. It will become natural for them. And that
will be the proper way to introduce non-sadhakas to Baba as well as the
proper way for Ananda Margiis to refer to the social  and spiritual names--
Shrii PR Sarkar & Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, respectively-- of our Revered Guru.

                                    PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"A'mi pather hadish pa'i ni, ta'i toma'r pa'ne cali ni..."    (PS 1338)

Purport:

Baba, in the past I did not get the direction of the proper path. Because of
that I could not come close to You. Your and my relation was hidden in dark.
I was not aware about You. In that past I could not get Your introduction.
And I could not link up in our close intimate relation which, in reality,
has been going on since a very long time.
In my misunderstanding, I was thinking that nobody is mine, and that to feel
love and affection is not my fate.  I was thinking that my life does not have
any value. That I will not get respect in my life, just it will be filled
with disrespect and neglect.
Baba, today You have blessed me and changed everything. Now I feel that
my life has become meaningful, because You are mine. My heart is filled with
Your love. Baba, by Your grace I surrender at Your lotus feet, O' Baba...

       ******************************************
                      Sadhana?

Baba says, "Whatever a man is to do in his spiritual life he is to do--
why? Because he is in love with the Supreme Entity. Love is the first word,
love is the starting point, and love is the last point." (AV-12, p. 13)

Note: Baba's above guideline is very beneficial for sadhana. However these
days some innocent or simple people just do meditation for "mental peace".
And ever worse some wts do sadhana for show-- to pose themselves as someone
great. Such workers do hardly an ounce of sadhana when they are alone; but
when they go to margiis' houses then in Hollywood style they sit in meditation
for a long time. All done in order to put themselves on display and create
one show that they are highly elevated sadhakas. Certain margiis do a similar
thing when they attend retreats. But by looking at the on-going conduct of
such margiis one can understand how far they are really doing sadhana or not.
It is just like if you are approaching one animal at night. At first you may
think that it is a tiger or a lion, but when that animal makes its weird
'Huan, Huan' sound, then you know that it is just a jackal. Same is the case
when being around those types of few margiis and wts who put on a show of
sadhana. By their conduct and dealing they just expose themselves etc.

Two Names, One Divine Entity

Baba

"A'lo jhariye madhu ks'ariye a'ndha'r sa'riye tumi esecho..."   (P.S. 1233)

Purport:

Baba, You have come and by Your divine advent You are showering
effulgence, exuding nectar, and wiping away all darkness. Baba, You have
come-- making the flowers blossom & graciously spreading happiness and
bliss to one and all. Baba, by Your august arrival everyone's hopes and
longings have been fulfilled.
Baba, living beings were awakened by the deep yearning and pain of
longing in their heart. And with this feeling, in the anticipation & hope
of Your coming, they were awake, watching for Your arrival-- constantly
looking towards Your path. Baba, this pain and longing of devotees
resonated in Your heart and You could no longer remain distant. Baba, You
have come and You are graciously pouring the basket of love-- satisfying
everyone's heart. The sleeping humanity has gotten new life by Your grace.
Baba-- that river which dried up and evaporated, and that song which was
lost in the oblivion-- the current of that very river and the tune of those
songs You have graciously brought along with You. [1]
Baba due to Your august advent You have inundated each and every heart
with the nectar of devotion. This is Your causeless grace...

NOTES FOR PRABHAT SAMGIITA:

[1] The inner idea is that when Parama Purusa comes and He saturates the
heart with deep devotion, then all those feelings of love and which had
dried up start to blossom. In the above song, the river signifies the flow
of devotion and the song and melody refers to that subtler expression of
devotional feeling.

== TWO NAMES, ONE DIVINE ENTITY ==

Namaskar,
On and off the topic comes about why some of our AM books are signed as
Shrii PR Sarkar whereas other books are signed as Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji.
People were going back and forth wondering if these are two
personalities or one personality.

In addition there is general confusion about this as some think and
distrbute their propaganda that Shrii PR Sarkar and Shrii Shrii
Anandamurtiji are two different entities.

So here are some points related with this question:

(1) Look at it this way, Shrii PR Sarkar and Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji
certainly refer to one singular Entity.

For example, in the mundane sphere it is just like the situation of my
mother. I call her mother; my sons and daughters call grandmother or
grandma; my cousin calls here Aunty. And like this it goes on. But that
does not mean that mother is really three different personalities or more.
And further when she was working in office she has her official designation
also. Official persons were calling her yet a different name. So that
single personality, my mother, has so many names according to their relation
and work. And indeed this is the case with most people. According to
the situation they have a given name, yet all along they are the same person
and personality.

(2) Baba's following graphic example is moving in this same direction:

Baba says, "I told you that the same man, Ramajiivana, is known as Rama to
his father, as Ramu at work - and his children say `Babujii', and his
students `Master Sahib'. and when he is moving along the street wearing a
topii, the taungavala will say ,`Hey topii! Hey topii! Hey topii! He
becomes a topii. But the man is that single man Rama." (AV-3)

(3) Who does not know that Parama Purusha has infinite names. So many names
because He has infinite attributions. Each attribution carries a different
name. In Ananda Vacanamrtam discourse, Baba says

"So Paramashiva, the Sadguru and Ta'raka Brahma are beyond the scope of the
gun'atrikon'a... O Lord, Thou are the controller of everything, but there
is nobody to control You. Your gun'as are beyond the scope of counting.
Nobody can count how many gun'as are there. " (AVM, part 3, 'Sadgurum Tvam
Namami', p.46, )

   (4) Seer, Poet & devotee Padmadanta also expressed like that. When devotees
asked seer Padmadanta to write some poem. He told that b/c Lord has
infinite guna, it is not possible to write by me. Then he wrote one shloka.
In that Padmadanta writes that only Parama Purusha can tell about His
attributions. And that Parama Purusa is One.

(5) So you see that infinite attribution infinite name. BABA is Sadguru so
He is like that. About Lord Shiva we know so many names and so many we do
not know also. But at least more than 2 dozen well known names are there
like: Pashupati, Nata'raj, Trilocan, Vya'gra'mbar, Paincca'nan, Vireshvar,
Mahadev, Vaidyana'th, Shiva', Maheshvara, Ma'ya'diish, Niil Kanth,
Ganga'dhar, Gaoripati, Deveshvar, A'dipita', Mantresh, Mahakoala, Ta'rak
Na'th, Liila'dhara, Shankar, Kalbhairav, Adinath, A'shutosh, Vajradhar,
Hara, Shambhu, Vibhu'tinath etc...
Interesting thing is nobody amongst those dogmatic Hindu worshippers of
Lord Shiva raises the point that Shiva has different/multiple personalities
according to the attribution and name.

(6) So the whole idea of my letter is that Baba is Parama Purusha. HE has
infinite names-- one for each of His infinite attributions. But no one
should think that these names refer to different personalities. Parama
Purusa is one Entity with different names.

(7) Ultimate then, the conclusion was easiliy reached that Shrii PR Sarkar
and Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji are the same. One personality with two names.

(8) And top of all we know that the name Shrii PR Sarkar is for non-Margiis
and the name Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji is for Ananda Margiis.

Here following is Baba's blessing:

Baba says, "O human beings, O' painstaking human beings, don't be afraid,
dont' be disheartened, I am for you. O' human beings please come, you
please come, I am for you." (SS-12, p. 78)

Namaskar
Arjuna

               ********************************************
                           Dirty Habits Die Hard

Baba says, "[After] taking a bath...soap, oil, and comb should be used
every day." (Caryacarya-III)

Note: All around the globe every margii is aware about 16 Points and all of
Baba's teachings on health and hygene. Even then a few do not incorporate
all these guidelines into their practical lives. Means some do not apply
oil to their joints etc. So on paper they are aware about everything yet at
retreats one or two may even tell others to follow those things when they
themselves do not do this.

So in total there are 4 categories. Those who are aware; those who are not
aware; those who point out others; and those who do not recommend this to
others. And there may be some other categories also.

However, Baba has made it mandadory that after bathing one should comb the
hair of the joints of the body and also apply an ample amount of oil to
those regions well. This is Baba's distinct guideline and most margiis and
wts strictly adhere to this teaching.

But a very small population of Ananda Margiis shy away from this practice--
for one reason or another. It is sometimes seen that those stuck in a
dogmatic western approach to life do not like to use any oil because they
got addicted to using scented perfume etc. And there may be other reasons
why in so-called advanced countries people do not follow this point of
using oil-- neither they apply it to their joints nor on their head. And in
other parts of the globe a few have their own private reasons why they
avoid using oil.

In contrast in those countries where oil is used more regularly used, then
new margiis readily adapt to the practice of putting oil on the joints.
Means they quickly adopt this new practice. Because their mind is naturally
open to this idea; whereas in some western nations a couple people are
reticent to ever use oil-- that is why it is commonly proclaimed that this
is one of the dogmas of the west.

But most Ananda Margiis practice the use of oil and certainly there are
some sectors where it is even more widely practiced. And in that case those
practitioners naturally get all the special benefits. And indeed there is a
very significant reason behind all this which Baba has given. Namely that
the lymph glands are located there in the joints and by applying oil to
those areas then the lymphatic glands get the nourishment they need.
Note 2: One need not spend a lot of money purchasing oil and it need not be
an imported variety. Rather in each area of the globe margiis should use
that type of oil which is commonly available to them at at reasonable
price. At the same time the oil should not be low-grade either. It should
be a standard variety from that area. In India many use coconut oil while
in the Mediterranean olive oil is more widely available. And like that from
place to place it will vary so everyone should experiment and use one of
the locally produced oils and find one they like best. this is the
Proutistic way.

The Divine Communication

Subject: The Divine Communication

Baba

"Ke go tumi a'ji bhare nile sa'ji na' baliya' mor phulavane..."  (PS 2111)

Purport:

O' Divine Entity, who are You who has come today in the flower garden of
my mind & without my awareness filled up Your basket by plucking all my
flowers. Which Divine Personality are You who has done like this.

Baba, neither did I ask You to come, nor did I ask You to please sit--
indeed I could not receive You properly in the canopy of my mental flower
garden.
O' Baba, Your grace is unimaginable. When I call You, then You do not
come; and now without any invitation You have blessed me by coming-- it is
Your grace. And You are silently looking at everything in the flower garden
of my mind and You are not telling anything-- just You smiled and got
involved in plucking the flowers. Baba, Your liila is unique.
O Parama Purusa, I do not have the capacity to understand what type of
liila' You are playing. Why do You go on playing with my mind. In my mental
garden, without my awareness, You go on swaying Your love. And You go on
creating vibrations there without my awareness. And You fill my mind with
Your divine attraction and love. Baba, O' the Divine Entity, You have
graced me by coming...

== DEVOTIONAL HISTORY OF PRABHAT SAMGIITA ==

Namaskar,
As every Ananda Margii knows, Baba first began composing Prabhat Samgiita
in Deoghar on September 14, 1982. That was when His divine songs first took
expression.

                       MILK-MAN STORY

And actually that time a few people asked Baba why this was not done
earlier. That it would have been good if Prabhat Samgiita had been given
sooner. Then Baba gave His reply via analogy. He told that just as the
milkman does not milch the cow prematurely, similarly in order to give
Prabhat Samgiita first He had to wait for sadhakas to reach the proper
standard. Thus it took many years and when Ananda Margiis were finally
ready, then Prabhat Samgiita was given. So as soon as the moment was ripe,
as soon as that auspicious time arrived, then Baba graciously started
composing Prabhat Samgiita.

               BEFORE PRABHAT SAMGIITA STARTED

Prior to Prabhat Samgiita, among other things all Ananda Margiis were
encouraged to write and sing their own bhajans. So people were doing just
that; & others were searching for songs in various places. At the same time
though it was a regular occurrence for Baba to be displeased by many of
these bhajans, as they were of dogmatic type. Of course no one was singing
or writing those songs to displease Him, but often the meaning of those
songs were inconsistent with our AM devotional cult. Even such bhajans were
negative style.

For example in the common society at various religious gatherings they sing
songs about dogmatic themes like "heaven and hell", or "Oh Lord I am
sinner and You are great..." etc. And in those earlier days margiis
directly came from those very religions. So they innocently brought those
dogmatic bhajans and they were singing those songs in their mother tongue
at AM programs.

In particular at one DMC, it may have been Patna 1st January DMC, one
religious-based negative bhajan was going on. The song was like this--

         "Majadha'r me par'a' hu'm...Koii nahin saha'ra'".

Meaning: "Baba, I am in a wild whirlpool. And caught up in that.  Huge
amount of uncontrolled water. And floating away. Going to die. I do not
have any hope, that anyone will save me. I am shelterless...." Etc, etc

So when Baba heard this, then He became furious and He sharply interjected
& loudly spoke, "You are not shelterless! Stop this song." Immediately then
Dadas interrupted and the song was stopped. So like that the situation got
managed and other margiis started singing.

So all this was going on for the months and years prior to September 1982--
so Prabhat Samgiita did not just suddenly appear out of the blue.

Because all along Baba had made everyone understand that AM teachings
should be exemplified in all the ways-- including our bhajans or devotional
songs. So with full sincerity margiis, dadas, and didis were trying write
or find songs that were properly linking with Baba's teachings, but they
could not manage.

So Baba had given all sorts of opportunities until finally when the stage
was set, and the moment was right then by Baba's grace Prabhat Samgiita was
started.

GUIDING IN THE REALM OF AESTHETIC SCIENCE

And being the Taraka Brahma Baba has to make such a contribution. Because
from Prout to Neo-Humanism to Microvita to spiritual science to Dhya'na
etc, and from subjective approach to objective adjustment in all the realms
everything He has given. So in that case how He can lag behind and overlook
the field of aesthetic science. How can He not guide in that realm when it
was the very need to establish a perfect example in aesthetic science--
when this is the linking point from the subtler mind to higher self.

PRABHAT SAMGIITA IS THE MISSING LINK

As we know crude people do not appreciate finer things; and that is why
Muslims and other such types do not participate in devotional songs. But
when the sweetness of the heart is there and devotees are singing and
dancing etc then that is everything.

Thus by giving Prabhat Samgiita, Baba has beautifully filled one missing
link. Because after half-bath and preparing oneself in the physico-psychic
way, then one link is needed before starting kiirtan. The intimate sharing
of one's personal devotional feeling is needed.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KIIRTAN AND PRABHAT SAMGIITA

Kiirtan itself is the expression of one idea: Highlighting the glory of
Parama Purus'a. So we are blessed to have our Baba-Nam-Kevalam kiirtan.

But sadhakas are not satisfied with just the singing of kiirtan. Because
every devotee also wants to express some personal, devotional, sentimental
feeling of the heart to their most loving Parama Purusa. Because He is the
Dearest One of the heart, the Heart of hearts, and the Soul of souls.

So it is natural that a sadhaka wants to pour or open their whole heart.
And this can only be done by sitting in a lonely place and singing to Him
directly and talking to Him. And in this way Prabhat Samgiita is the
perfect medium.

Because Kiirtan is more of a collective approach, or we can say that it is
even a little higher because only one idea is there-- that Baba's glory is
everything. That is the one central idea of our kiirtan.

But, as we know, in devotional life all kinds of personal ideas are there
and the mind needs to be able to goad those feelings towards Him. So this
is the essential difference between bhajans and kiirtan. Because so many
sentimental feelings and so many tales of the heart cannot get expressed in
the collective flow. Because everybody has their own feeling; all the
devotees like to share in their own way; and it depends on everyone's
standard. Some devotees have a special type of relation with Parama Purusa
and some have a different type of relation with Parama Purusa.

            PRABHAT SAMGIITA: AN INTIMATE EXPERIENCE

So Baba has given Prabhat Samgiita as it is an intimate link. Although
every devotee will admit that 'Parama Purusa, You are infinite'; but at the
same time they will say "Toma're ca'i ye ekante...", I want to have You in
an isolated place. O' infinite Parama Purusa I want to have You in a very
personal way. In an isolated place so I can open my heart, and You are mine
and mine alone.

Hence although Parama Purusa is infinite, but true devotees do not feel
that He is infinite. They feel that: 'He is mine and mine alone'.

So in that case there is a deep need to communicate their inner feeling,
otherwise how can there be intimacy. And without intimacy, nobody can
develop in sadhana, because that is devotion. And that only comes with the
pouring of the heart to Him-- He who is most close.

In that case without bhajan type of songs, and especially without
Prabhat Samgiita, there is nothing like that. So that is why this missing
link of heart-felt intimacy was there but Baba has fulfilled that gap in
1982 with the birth of Prabhat Samgiita.

                     BABA'S FIRST SONGS

Thus as Baba began composing songs that intimacy got expressed. And that
depth of personal feeling has gotten deeper and deeper since that starting
point.

As we all know initially Baba started with the song: "Bandhu he niye calo..."
Meaning: O' Parama Purusa, lead me on towards the fountain of effulgence.
O' my Lord, please grace me and take me along with You--on Your path. I want
to move along with You...

So Baba's holy creation of Prabhat Samgiita is from darkness to effulgence.
Where the devotee says, O' Baba lead me on this very path.
Then in the second song-- "E ga'n a'ma'r a'lor jharn'a' dha'ra'-- the
devotee is saying that this is my song of effulgence.

And on and on they go...

EACH AND EVERY PRABHAT SAMGIITA HAS ITS OWN BEAUTY

So each and every song of Prabhat Samgiita has its own unique beauty. And
the speciality is that the entire philosophy is contained within this plus
the feeling of the heart is expressed directly to Parama Purusa. In this
way they are all very personalized.

Thus in true sense Prabhat Samgiita is not for collective singing like
kiirtan etc. Certainly there are a few songs like that no doubt. But all in
all mostly they are personal songs that are completely intimate. And that
is why Baba Himself has written songs such as #463 and #3189 which
essentially say that-- O' Parama Purusa, those songs which I sing with
others in public, those songs are not my favourite; they do not carry the
inner feeling of my heart. Only when I sing in a private and secluded
place, only then in an intimate way can I express the true feeling of my
heart. Only then can I sing my favourite and most intimate songs.

In contrast, that type of inner talking and sharing of the heart with
Parama Purusa is not there in the kiirtan. When in fact the human mind
itself is dominated with various devotional sentiments. It likes to say
something-- listen something and have some special feeling. And except for
Prabhat Samgiita, this cannot get expressed in any other way.

So that is why in each and every devotee's life Prabhat Samgiita has a
special place. Of course each and every teaching of Baba has a special
place. Some in the realm of philosophy, some in social science, etc-- but
Prabhat Samgiita this is a very close affair that is between me and Parama
Purusa. And like this Baba has guided that in this way you can say all
these things.

                          SHOWING THE WAY

So before Prabhat Samgiita, people were unaware how they could proceed
in their devotional relation with Baba. They were unsure as to whether they
should accuse Parama Purusa about His heartlessness-- that He is not
responding to my calling. Or whether they should tell Him that, O' Parama
Purusa, You are so cruel and You do not care about me that how I am crying'.
And not just now but all these feelings were coming earlier also. But
devotees were unaware whether this is proper or improper to say like that.

But in Prabhat Samgiita, Baba has addressed all these things and given the
answer.

                   NO BARRIERS OR COMPLEXES

So in Prabhat Samgiita, Baba guides us that between Parama Purus'a and
devotees there should not be any barriers. Barriers are not good as they
only create nahimnabodh, difference of duality, and feelings of high and low.

Whereas with Parama Purusa we have a unique relation as He is our most
close One. In that manner, Baba has given a new way of thinking about
Parama Purusa that to what extent He can be close.

Because in all those dogmatic religions, like Christianity etc, it is even
a sin to have some sort of loving feeling towards Parama Purusa. Rather one
has to keep distance from the God as He is very cold and distant like some
judge.

                HOW THE SWEET RELATION STARTED

But since the time of Lord Krsna this sweet & loving relation with Parama
Purusa has started. And across all the lands devotees from far and wide are
moving ahead in this way. Plus in certain countries it is there. For
example in India certainly it is there-- because in general people have
love for Parama Purusa. But in Christianity and Islam, there is no such a
feeling of love. Rather people are afraid and fearful that otherwise God
will not tolerate and we will be beaten. So two different feelings are
there side by side.

According to Baba, this loving feeling was introduced 3500 years ago and
now it has matured, since all these years. So for those who have that very
good samskara or for the common general public-- about which the standard
is far higher now-- now each and every Ananda Margii can understand that
loving relation with Parama Purus'a, to some or more degree. That is why in
all the discourses Baba says that one should love Parama Purusa. Because
that love is the ultimate way towards realisation-- and that love is devotion.

                  AM IS THE DEVOTIONAL PATH

So Ananda Marga is the devotional path, the loving path, and this is the
way & all the steps. The practical way He has given. Because by theory
alone how much can one understand. By theory alone the heart does not get
satisfied.

Thus the heart does not get fulfilled or satiated by theory. But when the
devotional link is there then the heart gets satiated. Indeed this is the
first step that how one can make Parama Purusa their own and establish a
personal link with Him.

And in that way more closeness and more closeness and then higher lessons
and other things come. But when this basic link is missing then everything
is dry.

Just like when you sow the seed if moisture is not there then in spite of
all the qualities, that seed will never grow. Similarly Prabhat Samgiita
infuses moisture in the heart; it infuses sweetness, so that devotion can
grow.

                LINKING WITH PARAMA PURUSA

So this is the beginning link that by infusing the Ista mantra, this will
make more closeness. But for all this there needs to be one link. That who
is Parama Purusa, who is mine, what type of relation do I have, what way I
can express to Him, how far I can open my heart to Him-- how far I have the
liberty to do all these things.

And about this Baba openly talks in various songs. So each and every
Prabhat Samgiita expresses its own unique qualities. Those who are not
understanding Prabhat Samgiita think that all these songs are common-- that
all are the same. But it is not like that. Each and every song has its own
way of expression and its own beauty. It needs that those understanding
should deeply know this very thing. So Prabhat Samgiita is a unique gift of
Parama Purusa and that day started in 1982.

              LONG TERM PREPARATION GOING ON

So by His divine grace Baba Himself has been preparing the sadhaka's minds
for a  long time. And this was the need; thus when Baba thought that it was
the opportune time to impart this lesson then He gave it. And when He did
that that was the right time.

So nobody should think that it took too long to make Prabhat Samgiita or
that it got very delayed, or it got started late. It is not at all like that.

                    BABA'S DIVINE WAY

Everything which Baba has done is perfectly on time. So in 1982 when
finally the time came and people became qualified; or Baba made it that
this is the time when people will be ready to understand those highly
devotional things. All that is perfect planning and execution.
Because if Baba had given it earlier then many people would not have
understood the internal beauty of Prabhat Samgiita. And for the common
people He has brought this very gift.

In the individual existence all these things can take shape because Parama
Purusa sits in the heart of each and every devotee and He guides them in
His own way. But in the collective life it is comparatively more difficult.
The timing has to be right. Thus in 1982 the conditions were ripe for the
delivery or divine gift of Prabhat Samgiita and those divine songs will
continue to guide devotees and the entire humanity from now up to eternity.

                       BABA'S BLESSING

Baba says, "All are bound by the ties of fraternity. We will have to move
forward, shoulder to shoulder, together with all." (PNS-21)
