Baba

"Tava path dhare, tava na'm kare, toma'r pa'nei cale thaki..." (P.S. 2180)

Purport:

Baba, by Your grace I am treading on Your path by singing Your name and moving towards You. You are my Goal.

By Your grace I am moving closer and closer towards You-- to reach You. Baba, except You, in this universe who else is mine-- no one. Because of this I am always calling You for Your shelter.

O' Lord, in this decorated universe of Yours, You have provided me a special place according to Your liking. You have bestowed everything; and, You do not desire anything from anyone. Just You go on pouring Your divine grace eternally.

The demerits such as lethargy only come from my side. Plus all kinds of lame excuses I give in self-justification. Hence all the lacuna belong to me; whereas, You Yourself are ever-gracious.

Baba, You have situated my mind in the corner of Your vast cosmic mind. And from that corner it receives Your divine vibration.

With the attraction and resonance of Your divine vibration, the lotus of the love, which has blossomed in my heart, is looking towards You with deep yearning.

Baba, singing Your Name, I am moving on Your path. For me, Your grace is everything...

== STORY OF WORTHLESS SON ==

Namaskar,
In late 2009, AM Publications released a new book. It is a collection of essays about Baba's contributions written by members of the academic community. Perhaps by now you have seen it.

However, for any Ananda Margii, reading the cover itself is enough to know that there are serious issues with this publication.

This is an important topic for it reflects how Baba, the Guru of Ananda Marga, is presented to the general public. As His disciples, it is exclusively our duty to safeguard His excellence.

Anyone with basic devotion will understand the proper way to address Baba on the public platform, let us see what was done in this particular book. Any potential errors made should not be repeated in the future - neither in this publication nor any other. That is the key point at hand.

STORY OF WORTHLESS SON

Before discussing the details of the aforementioned book, here is one related story.

There was a village family in Sheohar (Shivahar) district of Bihar and the father - though illiterate himself - had a great desire that his son should be properly educated. The father toiled in the fields night and day in order to send his son to the finest schools. The father sacrificed much and used 100% of his limited financial means to send his son to college. After showering his paternal affection and giving all the family funds to his son's study for years and years, his son completed his schooling and became a professor.

All along, to ensure his son would have a great opportunity in life, the father labored hard in the hot sun day after day. But to him, it was all worth it to see his son succeed.

On the occasion of one festival, the father made the big excursion and traveled from his remote village to visit his son, the professor, at college. The father was extremely proud and told all his friends and neighbors about the upcoming trip.

The momentous day arrived and his father arrived smiling with gifts in hand for his son. His best clothes and jubilant expression however could not hide his weathered features from his many years of working outside in the fields.

The son greeted his father at the station and brought him to the college to show him around. As it was a festival day, the son was not thinking that any of his colleagues would be there.

Father and son walked and talked from building to building and the father was very impressed by what he saw. It was all that he expected and much, much more. But mostly, he was so pleased to be with his son.

After much walking, they took a seat in the shade. They sat and talked for some time when from behind them a man approached. When they could hear the footsteps directly behind them, the son turned around and much to his surprise saw that it was the chairman from his department. The son was shocked and his whole expression changed.

Immediately he stood up to greet his senior colleague. He took on a serious demeanor and spoke eye to eye with the chairman. The father sat there quietly watching, waiting to be introduced. But the two kept talking.

At one point, in the conversation, the chairman motioned inquisitively towards the father, and the proud father was ready to stand up and meet the chairman. But the son just brushed his hand in a rather brusque manner and attempted to redirect the conversation.

But this did not resolve the situation, he could sense the the department chairman was still curious as to who this person was.

So the the son said, "Yaha mera' servant hai." (Yaha means "this", mera' means "my", servant means servant, and hai means "is".)

The chairman nodded - paid no attention to the father - and continued his dialog with the son.

The father only knew Hindi - not a single word of English - so the father only understood the Hindi words: "Yaha mera' _______ hai", meaning, "This is my _______".

But he heard the sound "servant" and kept it in his memory.

A few minutes later, the chairman and the son finished their conversation and the chairman walked off without even acknowledging the father. The son looked visibly affected - he had not expected to see any colleagues at the college on this festival day. This disappointment was not lost on his father.

The rest of their visit went uneventfully - though the father felt perplexed by his son's behavior. The father returned back to his village with one burning question in mind. What did the English word "servant" mean.

He immediately asked one of the literary people in his village what the English word "servant" meant. When the father got the answer, he immediately understood the situation.

The father felt saddened that his son was so ashamed of him.

Apparently during his years of study, the son had created his own history and background and told many stories of how he was born into a literate, well-to-do family to all his colleagues. He thought this would boost his prestige.

So when he and his illiterate and simple father unexpectedly met up with the chairman of the department, the son introduced his father as his servant.

That occasion turned out to be one of the last times the father and son ever spoke. The arrogant son had not an iota of gratitude for the father's sacrifice of putting him through school. The son wanted to disassociate himself from his village roots entirely. In turn, the father was despondent that he had lost his son - the very person to whom he had given so much. He had given everything for the growth of his son and now his son was essentially disowning him. The father lived out his days with a heavy heart.

This very tragic story is highly related with the recently published book noted above.

SHRII SHRII A'NANDAMU'RTIJII

As we know, when speaking about our Sadguru Baba, as His disciples we are always to use words that reflect only the highest respect.

Baba says, "The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings – That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidya'
(intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamu'rtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty." (CC-2, 'Sadhana', pt 1a)

Baba is our spiritual Preceptor, and in that role He is known as Shrii Shrii A'nandamu'rtijii. Thus we are to use this name with the greatest reverence. Every A'nanda Ma'rgii is aware about this.

We should not be like the worthless son in the above story who fails to give proper regard to his father.

Unfortunately, in the recently published book, the situation is not very favourable. See for your yourself how the publishers did.

HOW THEY PUBLISHED THE BOOK

Now, let's get to the book itself. The title is "He Lived Among Us" and it is 300+ pages long; but one need look no further than the cover to see how the publishers represented Baba.

Remember, this book is a collection of essays written by various intellectuals and researchers. But it was published by Ananda Marga Publications.

The subtitle of the book is printed on the cover: "Contributions of Shrii Shrii A'nandamu'rti in the eyes of his contemporaries".

PROBLEM #1: "contemporaries"

The first and most glaring problem on the cover is the use of the word "contemporaries" in the subtitle. Using this word - "contemporaries" - puts all those jinani intellectuals on par with Baba. Because as we all know, contemporaries refers to both time and stature. For instance, even though a normal citizen was born during the same time period as Barack Obama or Hugo Chavez, that person is not considered to be their contemporary since he is not a world or country leader. To be a
contemporary one must be of a similar social stature etc.

So it is abominable that our publishers used such a word in the subtitle to refer to these jinani authors, thereby placing them on equal footing as Sadguru Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji. This book is supposed to glory Baba's Divine status but unfortunately it merely equates Him with these intellectuals, calling them His "contemporaries".

Some naive readers may think nothing is wrong with this, but every devotee will take strong exception to what these publishers have done. Indeed every bhakta will be quite alarmed and think that the AMPS publishers of this book have behaved like the worthless son in the above story.

PROBLEM #2: "his contemporaries"

The next major problem on the book's cover is this: The publishers did not capitalize the letter "h" when they wrote "his contemporaries" in the subtitle. This does two things. It fails to show the we, His followers, believe Him to be Divine; and it further equates those "contemporaries" as being on par with Baba. They are human beings and "he" is also a human being. There is no difference in stature.

Such is the tragedy that occurs by not capitalising the word "his". And again, this gross negligence was not carried out by some distant jinani writers but rather by our very own AMPS publications team. That is another reason why many are saying that those publishers are no better than the worthless son in the aforementioned story.

PROBLEM #3: Missing "ji"

We are to always the suffix "jii" when using His name. So it should be Shrii Shrii Anandamurtijii. That is how it is written in Caryacarya: "the name and form of Anandamu'rtijii." (cited above)

Yet, on the very of the cover of the book that is supposed to be in the honour of Baba, the respectful suffix "jii" is conspicuously missing. They merely wrote Shrii Shrii Anandamurti.

So this is yet another gross injustice. We are trying to propagate Baba's Divine Personality yet the publishers fail to give Him basic measures of respected and neglect to use the suffix "ji".

How then can we think that this book glorifies Baba when so many basic elements of respect are lacking. Even the followers of the crude dogmatic religions never fail to laud their preceptor of leader in public - i.e. they will always, always, always state "His Holiness the Dalai Lama" and never just "Dalai" or "Lama" etc - but in this AM book, the publishers did not give Baba the level of respect that even human beings get. After all, there are many people in society who are referred to with the suffix "ji", yet this was not donned upon Baba and He is Divine.

Thus time and again this publication presents Baba in a most lackluster and disrespectful manner, thereby leading good sadhakas to conclude that the publishers of this book are just as bad as the worthless son discussed above.

PROBLEM #4: The Main Title

Finally there is the main title: "HE LIVED AMONG US". No doubt the capitalised "H" but that has little value since ALL the letters are capitalised.

The main issue is that the title conveys the feeling that the book is about someone who has come and gone from this earth - that he was here and is now gone.

The title, "HE LIVED AMONG US", carries all kinds of finite and fleeting meanings.

It does not convey the idea that the subject of this book is an Eternal Entity who exists across time and space.

Thus on the cover of the book there are any number of cases of negligence and neglect. And it all speaks to the standard of the publishers. No one else is to blame. Those jinani writers may have written all kinds of nonsense on those 300+ pages, but what has happened on the cover is enough to turn the stomach of any right-thinking devotee.

That is why many sadhakas think that those publishers are just like the worthless son in the above story.

HOW IT WORKS WITH OTHER RELIGIONS

The various religions may be dogmatic and may be corrupt but at least they have the requisite courage and awareness to glorify their chosen Deity. In contrast, the publishers of AM books are either cowards or blind, or both.

Just see: Buddhists around the globe always refer to their leader as "His Holiness the Dalai Lama." This phrase gets repeated with every action and word of the Dalai Lama. And by this way they effectively promote their perceived greatness of their leader. Plus, they have taught the rest of the world to do the same - ie treat their Buddhist leader with respect.

Here is the proof - see this statement printed in a top western newspaper.

"Statement from the Press Secretary on the President' s meeting Thursday with His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama:"The President met this morning at the White House with His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama..." (Washington Post, Feb 18 2010)

This newspaper has emulated the titled that the followers use for the Dalai Lama, ie. His Holiness. If we fail to refer to Baba in a proper way, then we will miss the opportunity to teach the rest of the world about Baba's Divine stature, and we will be blamed - and rightly so.

Because indeed this is something that all the dogmatic religions and sects do: They treat their leader with utmost respect in the public arena. Whether it be "Lord Jesus Christ", "The Honourable Elijah Mohammed", "Maharishi Patanjali Ji", "Sri or Saint Shankaracarya Ji", "Saint Francis of Assisi" or any other religious leader, always the followers have the foresight and courage to give their leader respect.

But in AM, when our Guru truly is the Parama Purusa incarnate, the publishers could not live up to the standard that the dogmatic followers of other religions do. That is why many say that the cowardly publishers are just like the worthless son from the above story.

BABA SCOLDED ONE DADA

Who can forget that dramatic reporting session in front of Baba when one Dada mentioned Ramakrsna. Then immediately Baba scolded that Dada and told him not to refer to any great person in such a disrespectful manner. Baba said that one should use "Thakur Ramakrsna Paramahansa" as that gives the proper respect.

Here Baba is teaching us to use proper language and feeling when referencing a revered person. Naturally then, we are to apply the spirit of this teaching when referencing Baba also.

That means we are to say, "Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji, or "Revered Baba", or "Sadguru" or any term that conveys the proper respect. By this way we not only share the feeling of our heart but we show others how they should refer to Him as well.

So we should pay heed to Baba's guideline from this reporting session.

Tragically, those publishers fell short of the mark, which is why many just call them worthless. About this you can decide for yourself by seeing the quality of their work.

JUST LIKE A PIG LICKING YOU

Here is one analogy that is appropriate to this situation.

If a dog or pig gets close to you then it may lick you out of love and respect. Because that is all that dog or pig knows to do. Likewise when any unqualified person tries to glorify Baba then due to their limited understanding they will create a mess, dripping their saliva all over the place. In trying to love and glorify Him something else will happen. And that is exactly what occurred when the AMPS publishing team made this book, "HE LIVED AMONG US". In that case are they any different from the local street dog or domesticated pig.

BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace, He has revealed to us whom He is and it is our duty to share and spread His greatness with one and all. But when certain publishers shy away from this divine truth, either due to their cowardly nature or lack of realisation, then that is nothing but an ugly failure. That is why they and their book become "worthless", like the useless son in the above story. Baba is our Supreme Father and we must always convey this feeling of love and respect when raising His name, especially when done in public in the form of a book. As His sons and daughters, that is our inherent responsibility. None should fail and become worthless.

Namaskar,
Sudhakar

Note 1: THIS DADA DID THIS

I have great friendship and respect for Dada Sarvatmanandaji, so when it is his name that is listed on the inside cover as the Publications Secretary and when his Publications team is also involved, then I feel great pain as many may lose trust and faith in Dadaji. They may think he and his team are "worthless".

Here I just want to say I have great feeling for Dadaji and I truly hope he is able to repair this error - and fast, otherwise I fear others may lose respect for Dadaji.

Note 2: WHAT UGLINESS IS ON THE INSIDE

When the cover of the book is such an utter mess, then we can only imagine how many gross errors appear on the 300+ printed pages of this book. When the publishers themselves are unable to properly present Baba and His ideas, then they will be in no position to correct the many wrongs potentially made by these jinani authors. So we should all be ready. At this point, who knows what dirt might lie inside the front cover.

Baba's Mudra Photo is a Unique Gift...

Baba says, "The Sadguru is saying something, and the deaf or dumb man wants to hear it but cannot. If one concentrates the mind on Vara'bhaya Mudra', there will be the direct effect of positive microvita on the auricular or other nerve cells and also on the controlling cells, and it may be that all of a sudden he may get back the power of hearing.  One should look towards this mudra' and not to anything else. Microvita are radiated through this mudra'. This is the inner secret." (Microvita Nutshell, p.65)

== RE: GUIDELINE OF BLIND PERSON ==

Namaskar,
After reading this article I must say I think it is superb. I know from my own experience how important it is to stay connected to Guru Baba, even if I am not always doing "AMPS organizational work." I have heard similar stories over the years of margiis who regret having left the organization of AMPS due to their own weakness, but in spite of this remained devoted to BABA and feel He is Parama Purusa. I think you raised many valid points. It seems that this misguided margii made this ridiculous remark - "We must not worship the Form of Guru" - simply because he has not experienced devotion, nor experienced the connection of love between himself and Guru. It is indeed a sad condition.

It is this margii's ego that is preventing him from experiencing Baba in this deep connection. This margii must sing Baba Nam Kevalam with deep ideation and do extensive sadhana (including all other aspects of 16 points) and then this feeling that Baba is Parama Purusa will naturally come in his heart. Then, by Baba's grace, he will have one-pointed devotion for Baba.

Until that time, brother Prakashji should try hard and we should help him progress; and such a person should totally desist from making his inane statements about our Revered Guru, Baba.

Namaskar,
Brahmavidya

Note 1: NOT AN ISOLATED EVENT
THIS PROBLEM IS RECURRING AND DEEP-SEATED
Sadly this issue of brother Prakash Laufer (NY sector, prakashlaufer@hotmail.com) making erroneous and misguided comments about Guru, the sanctity of Ista, and AM spiritual life is not an isolated occurrence.
Rather this has happened repeatedly - indeed it happens whenever the topic arises.
So there is no question of Prakashji making a typing mistake or forming the sentence in the wrong way. That is not the cause. The cause of his misguided comments is a blatant lack of devotional understanding and relationship with Ista (Baba). Otherwise what else could be the reason.
Here are two of the main letters which depict the problem at hand:

Baba

"Lukiye tumi ka'j kare ja'o pratya'sha' kichu rekhe..."   (P.S. 2618)

Purport:

Baba, You are the Doer of all the work being done in this vast universe.
Secretly You go on doing and executing everything. Nobody can see You-- but
You are doing everything. And You do not harbour any desire to receive
anything in return. Just You are deeply involved in managing all the work
secretly, O' my Parama Purusa. And when You notice that somebody is
searching You, then that time You move ahead in Your grand liila of hide
and seek.   Baba, You decorate the effulgence in darkness; and simultaneously You
flood the cimmerian darkness with the showering of Your divine effulgence.
Baba, You are the bridge between life and death; You are the crossing
point. Yet all the while You Yourself remain hidden behind the scenes.
Baba, You are the great hope of the hopeless hearts. In the end of the
night You are the colourful dawn. Baba, You show the direction to those who
have lost the path. And You spread Your divine love in all the ten
directions.  Baba, You go on doing all the work of this entire universe secretly--
never desiring anything in return. Just You continue playing hide & seek.
Baba, Your liila is unfathomable...

== STUPID KING OF BLIND CABINET ==

Namaskar,
At the recent 2011 Ananda Purnima DMS, one grave injustice was done by a few organisational leaders. The ramifications of this sinful act are slowly being embedded within our organisational-cum-devotional culture. We should all be aware about what happened - otherwise things will only continue to get worse.

THE SCENE INSIDE DMS

Here is what occurred: Purodha Pramukha, i.e. Dada Vishvadevananda, appeared on stage at the DMS sitting on an elevated seat that was higher than Guru's place. The photo is attached for your review.

Here the key point is that in AM Brahma is the Guru. There is no lineage of gurus as in Hinduism and other yogic traditions. Baba is the Parama Purusa incarnate whereas PP Dada is just one jiiva born into this world with all kinds of samskaras and ignorance. Baba is the granter of salvation whereas PP is struggling for liberation. There is no comparison between the two. There is no question of PP gaining higher stature.

Yet tragically, that is exactly what happened at the recent Ananda Purnima DMS. It was arranged to put PP Dada's dais higher up than Guru's place on the DMS stage. That is the atrocity.

In this letter we explore (a) how and why opportunistic Dadas prop up PP's stature for their own gain by promoting PP as the spiritual head of AM, and (b) why the post of Purodha Parmukha is verily a social post, not a spiritual one.

PLACE OF GURU IN TANTRA

Let's begin with a quick review of our tantra tradition.

As we know, we do guru dhyana at the sahasrara cakra. That is the highest point of the human experience. That spot signifies deep regard and reverence. It is the pinnacled point of the human mind. Indeed that is the tradition in tantra: To goad the mind upwards, never lower.

And indeed in all aspects of our spiritual life, Guru's place is the highest and the most revered. Nobody is above or on par with Guru. This is the main teaching of tantra.

Because when Baba is the Guru and He is Taraka Brahma and perfect in all respects, then naturally His status is unparalleled.

Baba says, "The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings – That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidya´ (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamu´rtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty." (Caryacarya, part 2, Sadhana, point #1a)

Yet some for their selfish reasons are trying to prop up PP Dada - i.e. one mere mortal born in bondage and prone to avidya maya - as being the revered one. Indeed this drama has been going on in one way or another since 1990.

So we should investigate why this is being done and clear the air.

PP IS A SOCIAL POST - NOT A SPIRITUAL ONE

First off, we should all understand that the post of Purodha Pramukha is a social one, not a spiritual post. Here are the reasons why:

(A) Caryacarya itself is our social scripture. And CC-1 lays out the social duties of purodha pramukha. PP Dada's duty is to act as head of this worldly organisation AMPS. In this capacity, PP is the "chief of the purodhas".

(B) PP has zero ability to arrange his own mukti & moksa; in that case what can he do for others in this regard. Nothing. PP is himself not liberated and obviously cannot grant that to others. This furthermore shows that his post is purely social, not spiritual.

(C) PP cannot give any new scripture or shastra. Our AM scripture is perfect and complete - all delivered by Guru Himself. If PP wishes to write a story or commentary he may do so. But he is unable to contribute even one syllable to the shastras of Ananda Marga.

(D) Organizational executive decisions related with social affairs must reach to Purodha Pramukha for his discretionary review. This is one of his social duties.

(E) PP's post is lifelong - not longer than that.

(F) In the Purodha Board, PP's single vote has decisive meaning, though his order can be overturned. Hence, PP's order is not final; his decisions are subject to review.

(G) Each of the judiciary decisions also must reach to Purodha Pramukha for his final approval. This again deals with the social sphere.

(H) Purodha Pramukha is chief of the purodhas - which is a social board in our AMPS.

(I) PP Dada has no great spiritual power anointed to him by God. Just he is one purodha selected by his peers to serve as the chief of the board.

(J) Plus PP has so many more social duties and responsibilities.

By all this it is quite clear that the post of Purodha Pramukha is a social post - not a spiritual one - in our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha.

In our Caryacarya, Baba has given various provisions about the social post of Purodha Pramukha. The post of PP is just one of the many social posts in the organization wherein PP Dada deals with worldly affairs, not spiritual emancipation etc.

The question remains: When the position of purodha pramukha is clearly a social post, then why do some try to turn it into a spiritual one by giving maximum reverence to PP Dada and placing his seat higher than Baba's.

OPPORTUNISTIC WAYS OF GROUPISTS

If you look at the present day dogmatic religious scene or political field then you may see that lackluster people are always getting the power. Just some puppet type of person gets the leadership role, and conniving priests rule from behind.

And this is exactly what has been happening with the post of purodha pramukha since 1990. From day 1, Sarvatmananda was excited and eager to select a PP whom he could control 100%: Hence the selection of the late Dada Shraddhananda.

Sarvatmananda immediately then propped up PP Dada Shraddhananda as being divine because then those divine powers would be routed to him (i.e. Sarvatmananda) since he was the one controlling PP. By this way Sarvatmananda ruled with an iron fist - all via the tongue and signature of PP. It was quite a plan.

And indeed Rudrananda basked in this same luxury when he snatched PP Shraddhananda. He could do anything and everything with PP's stamp of approval. By this way he even ousted Sarvatmananda from the organisation. How ironic: Sarvatmananda got bit by his own creation.

Anyway, groupists want to get more power by controlling a PP whom they deem as being all-powerful. This is their trick. And to make PP all-powerful they build him up as being divine and the veritable spiritual head of AMPS. Tragically, some innocent margiis get befooled and cheated.

Actually what these Dadas do is just a carbon copy of Hindu dogma. The Hindu priests put all power in their idols. Then when they wish to get any order implemented, they say, "Goddess Kali told me to tell you...". This is their manner. By this way all credit and responsibility goes to some stone statue that is 100% silent. There is nothing anybody can do but obey. After all, where is there scope to argue or protest? That stone idol is mute. In this way, those exploiting priests have unquestionable power.

Some of our top Dadas do exactly the same maneuver. They create an aura that PP is great, nay divine, and put him on a high pedestal - above Baba. Of course, within their inner circle they have not an iota of respect for this PP Dada - after all he is just their puppet - but they proejct that same PP as having divine and absolute powers. PP's word is beyond question. This is their outer show to the general public. With this technique, such Dadas can execute their every wish: Expulsion as weapon, victimisation of innocent margiis, capture more power, eradicate margii rights, scripture distortion, Fake Ananda Vanii and so much more. All of these misdeeds are carried out by "the word of PP".

Their top aim is for the common margii to transfer all their respect and love for Baba to PP and ultimately surrender to PP. Then those opportunistic Dada can wield full power in the Marga.

All they have to do is find some spineless Dada to act as PP and then prop up that Dada as being a god. This is their plan. In the past they did this with Shraddhananda and now they are doing this with Vishvadevananda.

That is why at the recent Ananda Purnima DMS they placed PP Dada Vishvadevananda's dais on a plateau higher than Baba's stance. Thus we see that who gets the high seat.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

Here are some closing thoughts on this topic:

1. Such opportunistic Dadas are just implementing Hindu dogma. Step by step they are just putting forth the idea that when Guru "left" then the current in-charge, i.e. PP Dada, takes on an equal or greater role.

2. So margiis should salute PP as PP has divine power. By securing maximum respect for PP from the margiis, then simple and ignorant margiis become restless to get the blessing of PP. In the name of PP they will accept anything. This is the plan of those opportunistic Dadas.

3. New margiis think this is the system and that everything is proper, while old margiis think that the matter is sensitive. So they do not protest or raise their voice in public.

4. In AM we do not approve of these Hindu dogmas. But opportunistic purodhas are so degraded that want to start that tradition, gradually. The attached photo is but one of the proofs. It is further validated by viewing all the horrors that have been done in the name of PP since 1990. By this way anyone can see that they prop up the post of PP to something divine and then wield that power to their liking.

5. The various religions have a spiritual head but that is not the case in AM. In our Marga, there is no third entity between God and the disciple. The religions use a priest between their god and the seeker; but in AM, Parama Purusa (God) and the sadhaka have a direct connection. There is no intermediary.

6. We have to remember that in AM the role of an acarya is limited. Whether it be RS Dada or PP Dada, they have the same Guru as regular margiis. PP is not something divine. Rather, he is just a human being in a social post.

BABA'S BLESSING

Baba has given Ananda Marga ideology for rooting out dogma. Yet now we ourselves are falling into Hindu dogma as top Dadas prop up the stature of PP on the stage of our very own DMS - giving more status to PP than Baba. Is that not ironic - even tragic.

Even though in the relative sphere our Marga is struggling some, surely the day is not far when all will rally around His divine message in one voice and declare:

"All human beings belong to one race...'The exploitation of human beings cannot be allowed!' and, 'Religious hypocrisy cannot be tolerated!' Giving a clarion call to the fragmented human society from beneath the saffron flag, the symbol of service and sacrifice, they will proclaim at the top of their voices, 'Human beings of the world, unite!'" (POD)

In this entire spectacle, PP Dada is the "stupid king" and the opportunistic Dadas are the "blind cabinet" as they do not realise that by not having reverence (shraddha') for Baba they are inviting their spiritual deminse.

Here are some other key points to know:

1) Because PP Vishvadevananda sided with Nigamananda and toured around Europe with him, now PP Dada is very scared of being victimised by Rudrananda. So he is psychically touching the feet of Rudrananda to get in his good books. That is why, now, all of a sudden, after the death of Nigamanadna, PP is being extremely obedient to Rudrananda. Because earlier he left Rudrananda to be with Nigamananda. PP was not aware that Rudrananda would outlive Nigamananda.

2. Rudrananda wants to become PP. So these days his "yes men" are campaigning for him. They want to remove PP by making life totally suffocating for Vishvadevananda etc. PP Vishvadevananda is younger than Rudrananda so they do not have the luxury of  waiting for him to die. Rather they have to force PP out of the post by making life unbearable for him. Then Rudrananda can capture the seat.

3. Ananda Dyotona Didi is also feeling shelterless since the death of Nigamananda so she is also thinking to leave team Ranchi. Staying is unbearable for her.

Note 2: CAPITALISING ON PP'S STATURE:

MARRIAGE BLESSING BUSINESS

The below letter is another way in which they aim to profit by making PP into some divine entity. At DMS, they are charging big money from margiis to get a marriage blessing from PP Dada. When in truth PP's post is only social, not spiritual.

                      To Do Great Work

Baba says, "The meaning of the 'Sam'gacchadhvam' Mantra should be realised
in life. Always remain united. Solve all problems, big or small, with
unity. Consider misfortune of one as the misfortune of all-- an injury to
one as an injury to all." (CC-2, 'Society' chapter, point #34)

Note: So long as Baba's above teaching is not put into practice, one cannot
do great work. Devoid of this one's life will be as meaningful as the life
of a termite or ant etc. In our practical life we should be strict in
following Baba's teaching.

Reverence to Guru is at Stake

Baba

== REVERENCE TO GURU IS AT STAKE ==

Namaskar,
As once again some are murmuring about changing the Supreme Command, let
us all take a moment to reflect on what it means to have a Guru and be
on the path of tantra.

SPECIAL ASPECT OF TANTRA: GURU PUJANAM

As we all know, in tantra, Guru's example, teaching, and word are
everything. We have all experienced how this is an invaluable feature of
being on the path. With reverence & surrender, the disciple must follow
Guru's each and every order. That is the way tantra works: To do as per
Guru's wish.

So the spirit of Guru pujanam is an essential aspect of tantra-- it
creates a special link of love and reverence between the sadhaka and the
Guru. Without that there is no tantra.

Baba says, "Gurupu'janam – one must have reverence for the guru." (AV-34)

Baba says, "Gurupu'janam: one should do as per the gospels of the
preceptor." (SS-18)

Hence, Baba's clear-cut mandate is that each and every disciple must
adhere to Guru's expressed guideline. And indeed the devotee feels in
their heart that there is no other way, 'I must follow what Baba has
given; that is what is most dear to me'. This is the innate feeling of
every Ananda Margii, of every bhakta. And this inherent yearning-- along
with His divine grace-- are what propel us towards the Goal.

MISGUIDED ATTEMPT OF A FEW JINANIS

However, yet again, some misguided jinanis are trying to misdirect
simple margiis by wrongly claiming that the Supreme Command must be
changed. And they have given all sorts of logic and reasoning which need
not be addressed here-- nor anywhere.

Because all such attempts to change Guru's Supreme Command are useless--
since they undermine the whole essence of tantra, and with it the
Guru-disciple relation.

BABA HIMSELF SPOKE THE 'SUPREME COMMAND' TERM

In the recorded version of the discourse-- 'Mantra O Mantrajapa-- given
in Morning General Darshan on 18 June '79 in Kolkata, Baba Himself
states the term 'Supreme Command', in English. That itself is enough to
know that He approves of that very translation of the Bengali 'Caram
Nrdesh'.

So when the term 'Supreme Command' is His own selection of words, then
that should be honoured.

It is not that we are debating the translation of Carma Nrdesh into
Swahili, Portuguese, Thai-- or any other language which Baba chose not
to speak. Rather the Supreme Command term is the very English term which
Baba Himself spoke. Hence there is no question of having it changed.
This is Guru's given term: Supreme Command.

                    DISEASE OF SOME JINANIS

But some dry jinanis have the penchant to change everything-- even the
Supreme Command-- which is why Baba Himself makes explicit jokes about
such jinanis.

In Varna Vicitra part 2, in the last chapter Baba muses how when
proofing another's writing, a jinani will even cross out the term
'please' and put 'kindly'; and if the person had originally written
'kindly' then the jinani will mark it out and insert 'please'. This is
the diseased approach of various jinanis. Their ego goads them to change
each word-- to put their fingerprints on everything.

And it is this very same pettiness of mind which leads certain jinanis
to even change the words of Guru's Supreme Command.

When, in reality, the term is not up for debate. Baba has Himself spoken
the phrase 'Supreme Command' in English then that is enough for us. What
He has given is gold and none should get duped into chasing after some
glittery tinsel instead-- i.e. the false words of some jinanis.

                   GURU'S WORD IS EVERYTHING

The overall idea is that Guru's guideline is everything in tantra. In
vaedic diiksa, the guru is not so important. But in tantra the relation
with Guru is everything. That is the greatness of tantra.

And verily true tantric disciples have been blessed with the inner
feeling that Guru's every mandate is divine.

So when Baba is the Tantric Guru and when He Himself has given the words
'Supreme Command', then that is the term to be used-- period.

It is just like how Baba has given the term avadhuta-- then there is no
question of changing that to mullah, or priest, or pundit etc. Because
what He has given is what is best. That is His preference and it is that
preference which we must uphold.

                       BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace, He has given us everything to progress in life and the
very essence of those teachings have been embedded in His Supreme
Command. As His disciples, we are not only to strictly follow the orders
given in the Supreme Command, but with reverence-- with Guru pujanam--
we are to honour the name itself as that is the one Guru has explicitly
chosen.

Baba says, "In Tantra, the greatest emphasis is placed on the
preceptor-disciple relationship... [and] also on the need for disciples
to make a total surrender to the preceptor in the early stages of the
Tantric path." (AMIWL-9)

Namaskar
Anil

Note 1:      BABA'S WARNING: BEWARE OF JINANIS

Baba strongly warns us about such tricky jinanis who wish to change
Guru's teachings like the Supreme Command. Wherever they go, such
jinanis create hell and confusion in the society-- for no reason other
than to show off their own intellectual extravaganza.

Baba says, "Such hypocrites want to misguide the people by their tall
talks alone...'Loka Vya'moha Ka'raka.” That is, 'They create disease in
the minds of the people.' Their aim is not to solve society’s problems.
Rather, they are the chief cause for the downfall, retardation and sad
plight of human society. The present crisis in today’s civilization is
due to them. Their theories are based on the psychology and intellectual
extravaganza of the hypocrite. You will certainly encounter many such
theories in the social sphere, the economic sphere, and other spheres of
life. This is not the problem of a single country, but of the entire
intellectual world. Again I repeat that the crisis in civilization today
is due to the intellectual extravaganza of these hypocrites, these
polished satans." (PNS-6)

Thus jinanis are never happy nor ever satisfied unless they are puffing
up their own egos by putting forth their own false theories and
attaching their own name to such theories. That is what Baba is warning
us about in the above passage. And that is exactly what we see happening
with such jinanis who have made up their own fake term-- Supreme Direction.

As Ananda Margiis, we are to uphold Baba's original and chosen term,
'Supreme Command'.

                             PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Maner vyatha' mani ja'ne, ca'pa' a'che gopane..." - P.S. 463

Purport:

Baba, I love You so much. The yearning and longing which I have for You,
everything is hidden deep within my mind. The feeling which is in my mind
nobody can understand-- except my mind. If I want to express these ideas
and sing them to You in the form of song, then it is very
difficult to do. Because these are the inner feelings of my heart-- and
are not to be shared in public. But I can sing those songs to You if
only You and I are there-- nobody else. When we will be together in a
lonely place then I will surely make You listen to those songs which
resonate the inner feelings of my heart. Baba, the pain of my mind only
my mind can understand.
Baba, the Prabhat Samgiita songs which I sing in dharmacakra & other
programs, whatever I sing in those songs the feeling of my heart is not
expressed. Those songs which express my internal feeling I do not sing
in dharmacakra. What I will sing in lonely place that I will sing for You.
The language of the heart only the heart can understand. It cannot be
heard by external ears. In my practices, I feel in my heart that You are
and I am-- and that except us there is nothing else in this entire
universe...

              The Way Parama Purusa Evaluates

Baba says, "Do not think that those who are highly learned intellectuals
are elevated. In the realm of spirituality even illiterate persons can
reach the Goal, leaving those intellectuals behind. Parama Purusa does
not consider the intellectual qualification or intellect. He evaluates
everyone with the measuring scale of how much love one has for Parama
Purusa." (SS-14, p. 91, Saharsa DMC, 27 June 1980)

The Waiting Room

Baba

                 == THE WAITING ROOM ==

Namaskar,

Baba says, "This world is just like [a] waiting room. You are to remain
here for a very short span." (AV-12)

Tragically, in this modern world, the mass of people live and plan their
lives in such a way as if this world is their permanent abode. Due to
the ill effects of gross materialism, common citizens think that their
bank account, their house, their job, their physical appearance, their
spouse, and their worldly possessions are the prized aspects of their
existence. For this reason, they use cent-per-cent of their energy
running after these ephemeral things, mistaking them to be the glory of
human life.

This is the way materialism has led everyone astray, into some dark
illusion.

Baba says, "This type of crude material knowledge concerned with the
crude materialism has done much harm to human society during the last
one century." (AV-2)

There is an inner aspect to our human existence that is hungry, yet the
humanity is neglecting that which is inside because of being fully
intoxicated with life's material pleasures.

EVEN WE ANANDA MARGIIS SUFFER FROM THIS

As Ananda Margiis, we all know what the Goal of life is, as well as what
it takes to get there. The Goal is Baba and the way to get there is by
sadhana. This fact everybody knows.

Yet, to some or more degree, we have also suffered from the ill effects
of materialism, as it has infested each and every pore of society. It is
very difficult to completely separate oneself from that environment.
Huge billboards, internet ads, crude social values, financial pressures
etc meet us at each and every turn.

One of the clear-cut downturns of all this is that some of us do not put
proper emphasis on sadhana in our lives.

I can say that this is certainly true for me. I always think, 'I will do
sadhana'; yet when it is time to start my practice I can find any number
of other things to do. And when I do sit down for sadhana, then often it
gets curtailed due to lack of time, lack of concentration, or feelings
of hunger.

Perhaps some of you have also experienced this or similar things.

And the gross materialism which surrounds us does not help; it leads to
more spiritual lethargy. Whatever inherent lethargy we may have towards
sadhana is multiplied by today's crude environment. Because the world
and all its inhabitants are running one direction, and we are trying to
move in another. We are going against the tide.

Baba says, "The present-day materialism has brought humanity to this
predicament. Its consequences are dreadful." (NSS)

               BABA'S GRAPHIC EXPLANATION

Before analysing more of the in's & out's of this issue, here is Baba
special teaching about spiritual lethargy, or procrastination in sadhana.

Baba says, "Spiritual lethargy is the worst. Spiritual lethargy means
not to sit for meditation regularly. Those with spiritual lethargy have
time for all other actions, but for spiritual practice there seems to be
no time. They say, “It’s already late today – I’ll do a short meditation
right now, and devote more time to sa'dhana' tomorrow.” They sit
attentively inside the cinema hall, but in dharma sa'dhana' they feel
sleepy." (AMIWL-10)

We should all read the above quote multiple times and honestly evaluate
how far Baba's teaching applies to our own lives.

                     OLD WAYS OF LIVING

In addition to today's gross materialism, here are other reasons why it
is often a struggle to move on the path of sadhana.

As Baba tells us, every human being has come from animal life-- at one
point in time or another. So we are highly familiar with animalistic
desires and propensities. We need not be reminded about these things.
That is a known path to us, and in general people gravitate towards the
familiar and are hesitant to take up new enterprises.

For that reason, it take little or no energy for people to succumb to
the four basic propensities: Food, fear, procreation, and sleep. No one
needs any special training in these spheres; the mind automatically runs
after these things.

In contrast, when sadhana is the most subtle practice for human beings,
then invariably it is something that is very new and unfamiliar to us.
Often it is not something that we have lifetimes of experience with.
Whereas, for incarnations and incarnations in animal and human form, we
have been deeply engrossed in material pursuits.

So being attached to this old way of living certainly contributes to
spiritual procrastination.

                OTHER REASONS WE PROCRASTINATE

AVIDYA MAYA & SO-CALLED OBJECTIVE ADJUSTMENT

Then there are other things that lead to procrastination in sadhana:

1) Avidya Maya: The force of avidya maya casts allurements each and
every moment, and when the whole society has fallen prey to the spell of
avidya maya, then the force of that maya multiplies and it is very
difficult to escape. If you know you should do sadhana, but all your
worldly pressures tell you to work late, or buy a big house, or go to
the movies, or watch TV, or whatever, then it is difficult to move on
the path of sadhana. And every time we give in to the ignorance of
avidya, then the more sadhana slips out of our fingers, and becomes
something totally foreign.

2) Objective Adjustment: In the name of objective adjustment, we leave
our spiritual practice behind and run after worldly endeavours. We then
justify that going to dharmacakra and doing sadhana there is enough for
the entire week, or thereabouts.

3) Microvita: Various microvita also pull us down and hinders our
sadhana routine.

Plus when the entire society is moving towards money, matter, prestige,
then that multiplies the problem.

Each of us individually should take an honest look at who we are and
what is happening with our sadhana routine, and make special efforts to
overcome whatever is hindering our practice.

WE HAVE NOT COME HERE FOREVER

Here is Baba's special teaching about the waiting room phenomenon.

Nowadays, everyone thinks that this world is their permanent abode. They
may say otherwise but practically they live as if this is the case.

So we should pay heed to Baba's strict warning.

               Smarana nitya anityatam

Baba says, "You should remember always that you have come here for a
short span. You won’t remain in this world for a long period. You may
remain here say for ninety or hundred years or say for one hundred and
fifty years. Some saints like Traelaunga Sva'mii lived here for three
hundred and fifty years. He lived in Varanasi in India and died in this
twentieth century. But you are to live under certain limitations –
limitations of time, space and person."
"So you should always remember that you have come here for a very short
span. It is just like a waiting room of a railway station. You remain
there for a short period and when the train comes, you leave the waiting
room. This world is just like that waiting room. You are to remain here
for a very short span."
"You should always remember this fact – “I have come here for a short
span and I won’t remain here for a very long period. My home is
elsewhere. I am just like a tourist.” You should always remember this
fact. And as a universal tourist, you, while leaving for your permanent
home, won’t require a passport." (AV-12)

So we must not treat this world as our permanent abode. We should always
keep our mind fixed on Him. And internally, we must remind ourselves
again and again that we have only come here for a short time. Then and
only then can we truly understand that sadhana-- and not money or
possessions-- is the cream of life.

Here again is Baba' reminder about the nature of this human life.

Baba says, "This short period of time from birth to death is human life.
Human beings have come from the world of invisibility and at the end of
this short span of time will return to the world of invisibility. Those
people can be called intelligent who utilize every moment of their short
life engaged in spiritual practice." (APH-4)

Failing to adopt the path of sadhana, will lead us on an endless spiral
of suffering and pain in the myriad of deaths and rebirths in this
material world.

                         BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace we must realise that this world is not our permanent
abode, overcome all tendencies of spiritual lethargy, do sadhana, and
reach up to Him.

Baba says, "The only way to advance is to follow the path of vigorous
spiritual practice." (AMIWL-8)

Namaskar,
Giriish

Baba, You know that I am not an A-grade devotee. So due to this if You
do not love me then it is no problem, no harm. But please come close and
sit. If You do not like to sit in my little hut, then at least please
come and stand inside with Your sweet smile. Oh my Lord, everyone longs
for You in their heart. That longing I also have and for that I have
requested You to remain with me. And if You do not like to listen to my
request then just You please come close and this much You tell me, 'I do
not love you even a pinch'. Baba, I will go on singing Your song; and my
heart will be mingled with that tune & melody-- longing for You in
dhyana. But because I am not an A-grade devotee that is why I will not
force You to come and sit in my dhyana. So it is exclusively up to You.
What You like that You do. Baba, please come close with Your sweet smile...

Baba

"Toma'kei bha'loba'si a'mara'..." (PS 3821)

Purport:

Baba, You are our everything, our Heart of hearts. We love only You.
Baba, by Your grace we are moving ceaselessly along Your divine path; we
are treading on that very path which You have graciously shown to us. Baba,
day and night we sing Your boundless glories and dance according to Your
sweet rhythms. O' Lord, we always propagate Your grand ideals. Baba, You
have created us: We are Your thought projection; we are Your progeny. Baba,
You are our Father-- Our Ista.
Baba, by Your grace we love one and all equally; everyone's existence is
treasured. We do not differentiate between high and low, small and big,
rich and poor, touchable and untouchable, sinner and virtuous, literate and
illiterate etc. All are kith and kin-- all are family members. All are part
of that singular humanity. Baba, we are all bound together with Your divine
love. O' Lord, with Your infinite compassion You always call us to come
close with Your beacon call, which pulls our heart close to You. By Your
grace we hear Your call and move towards You. Baba, You are the Goal. Our
each and every action and deed is aimed toward Your divine stance-- toward
reaching up to You. Baba, You are our Aim and the Polestar of our life.
Baba, You have blessed us with the ideals of neo-humanism. Firstly, You
have graciously granted us individual freedom; secondly, You have infused
us with collective spirit; and thirdly, You have spiritualised our minds
with the dhyana of the Supreme One [1]. With these three attributions one
other quality unfolds: We wage a relentless fight against all the evils.
And by Your grace victory is sure. Baba, by these four noble qualities of
neo-humanism-- individual freedom, collective spirit, spiritual outlook,
and fight against evil forces-- we have created one big banyan tree of love
and affection which branches out and extends throughout this vast universe.
O' Baba, by this approach we have made this dusty earth into a golden
paradise, by Your divine blessing.
Baba, we all love only You; You are our Goal. O' our most Adored One...

NOTES ABOUT PRABHAT SAMGIITA #3821:

[1] "Vya's't'...amara'r". In the third and final stanza of the above song,
Baba describes 4 special principles that are part and parcel of our
neo-humanistic philosophy: (a) individual freedom, (b) collective interest,
(c) spiritual ideation, (d) the fight against injustices. All are four are
needed to create a golden paradise on this earth and build a society in the
real sense of the term. For example, without proper dhyana, then individual
freedom can be twisted to exploit the masses. Such is the case in
capitalism since it is devoid of a spiritual approach. Communism does not
allow for individual freedom nor does it recognise spirituality: Both are
missing. For this reason, collective interest and a loving society could
not be attained in communism. So it is more murderous than capitalism.

Comparatively speaking, communists are worse than capitalists. Then in the
dogma-centered philosophy such as in the crude religions, individual
freedom and perfect spirituality are missing. So the religions are just
dogma-based. There is no true feeling of universal love. That is why
followers of same religion can kill each other. This history has witnessed
again and again. So religious society is also defective-- fake. Baba guides
us that in an ideal society all 4 principles are needed: (a) individual
freedom, (b) collective interest, (c) spiritual ideation, (d) the fight
against injustices. Failing that, this world cannot become a golden
paradise. In the absence of any of these principles, groupism and
factionalism will erupt. So our neo-humanistic approach is entirely
revolutionary. In this God-centered approach, individual freedom is used
for virtuous deeds which bring collective welfare, and all the while there
is a pactless fight against all injustices. This is the speciality of our
neo-humanism and this is the grand ideal Baba is propagating in His above
song.

               == BABA'S SPECIAL APPROACH ON SADHANA ==

Namaskar,
We all know Baba places great emphasis on spiritual life and doing sadhana.
And in not one but in numerous discourses Baba warns about being firm in
sadhana because often people fail to move ahead in their spiritual life due
to their own deficiencies like procrastination etc.

        Nidra' tandra' bhayam' krodha a'lasyam' diirghasu'trata';
        S'ad'ados'a'h purus'en'eha ha'ntavya'h bhu'timicchata'.

Baba says, "Those who want to prosper in life must destroy these six
defects in themselves: nidra' [sleep], tandra' [drowsiness], a'lasya
[lethargy], bhaya [fear], krodha [anger], and diirghasu'trata'
[procrastination]." (AV)

Thereafter Baba describes that those who want to become great must shun
these negative habits. In particular one must not succumb to spiritual
procrastination. This is most harmful since one neglects their spiritual
practice-- and they do not do sadhana.

And Baba furthermore explains that everyone has the potential to become
great, but often people do not tap into that potentiality-- or that
potentiality does not blossom. Most of the time due to lethargy or laziness
in the spiritual sphere.

So those who want to become great must be conscious of all of this.

And to do proper sadhana, various tips are quick helpful-- one of which is
doing sadhana outside. This is Baba's guideline.

                     TEACHING BY EXAMPLE

Of course what Baba teaches He also does. By His example He shows the way.
And doing sadhana outside was Baba's regular practice. Especially in the
early days, Baba used to regularly wander up to the hills of Jamalpur and
explore the countryside and do sadhana in remote isolated places. And then
come back in the evening time or even in the middle of the night. This was
the way of His usual outdoor sadhana program.

Of course there was no need for Baba to do sadhana at all but just to show
us that doing sadhana outside was good, He did like this.

Baba says, "He needs no sadhana, but just to set an example to others, He
performs sadhana." (DT-2, p.92 / 1969, Ranchi)

BABA DESCRIBES DOING SADHANA IN THE MOUNTAINS

Baba says, "I used to go for a walk nearly every day in the mountains east
of Jamalpur. I used to sit on the second mountain. One after another,
several small and large mountains run parallel to each other. The summit of
the second mountain was the highest place among them. I used to arrive
there in the middle of the afternoon and stay there until about eight at
night." (Shabda Cayanika-1, p.93)

Here Baba talks more about His experience of doing sadhana outside:

Baba says, "I was sitting on the peak. It was the bright lunar
fortnight...In front of me, that is to the west, on the slope of the
mountain, was a dense ga'b forest...The mountain in front of me was
completely bare...I was probably the only person for several miles,
completely alone...the peak that I was seated on..." (Shabda Cayanika-1, p.94)

                BENEFITS OF OUTDOOR SADHANA

In His various discourses, Baba also talks about the innumerable benefits
of doing sadhana outside: Enhanced concentration, fresh air, mental
sharpness, good for pratyahara, less disturbances, positive microvita,
pointedness of mind. These are but a few of the many benefits.

                  MOVING AHEAD IN SADHANA

By Baba's grace we should all realise our potential and following His
divine example by making it our regular practice to do sadhana outside.
This will be highly beneficial for our spiritual life and progression along
the path of sadhana.

Baba says, "It is desirable to practise various lessons of sadhana alone,
in a lonely place." (GHC, final page)

Namaskar,
Ishvara

P.S. I hope all my margii brothers and sisters will write in with their
experiences and realisations of doing sadhana outside.

Some Tips How to Save Oneself From Psychic Diseases

In this age scientific development has made significant progress, while in
comparison human psychic and spiritual growth is lagging far behind. In
result, mental tension has multiplied in geometrical progression. The final
outcome being that nerve, brain, and heart diseases have become quite
common; and nervousness and insanity are also prevalent, if not rampant, in
the society. And the remedy for all this is as follows:

Baba says, "While doing work one should ideate, 'It is the work of Parama
Purusa; it is not mine. I am doing His work to please Him'. By following
this approach mental tension, nervousness, and psychic diseases will never
arise. And also samskaras will not be formed." (08 April '84, Tattanagar DMC)

== FOR OPTIMAL HEALTH-- III ==

Namaskar,
As we all know fasting is special practice whereby one's entire system gets
cleansed and purified. Because by allowing the organs to rest and collect
the toxins, the body gets the opportunity to rejuvenate itself. And of
course, breaking the fast properly with a thorough cleansing process is an
indispensable feature of fasting-- otherwise much of the benefits are lost.

So by doing the whole fasting and breaking in a sincere and complete manner
then an innumerable amount of "health and wealth" is aroused in the human
structure such that the body and mind glisten with purity and lightness.

                BABA WATCHES FOR OUR WELFARE

That is why we all know that Baba Himself is very strict with all margiis
and acaryas on the point of fasting. He wants that we should derive all the
many benefits from this great practice. Indeed, in multiple ways He reminds us
that always He is watching. This following teaching is leading in that
exact manner.

Baba says, "Suppose, a gentleman is undergoing fasting, and secretly in a
closed room, he takes chocolate. 'No one will know, nobody will know.' But
it is not so. His unit cognition will know that he has taken chocolate. And
similarly, the Cosmic Father will know that in a particular room one unit
body took chocolate very secretly, and that unit body is still thinking,
that the fact that he took chocolate on a fast-day is not known to anybody.
It is known to everybody. Nothing is a secret." (AV-12)

Hence Baba is acutely aware of exactly what happens-- as well as what does
not happen-- on our each and every fasting day. And He wants that we
sincerely follow His guideline as this is for our welfare.

                       BABA POINTS OUT

That is why in dharma samiiksa and in all types of reporting sessions, Baba
used to point out sadhakas on the point of fasting in front of one and all.
And if one person got pointed out it was understood that if others are also
falling into this same category then they should also rectify themselves.
That was the spirit. It was not just that Baba was speaking to only one
individual on such occasions.

Some people would wonder why Baba was pointing out margiis or Wts in front
of the collective, as opposed to informing them individually. And surely
the reason for this is that Baba did not have the time to speak to each and
every individual on each and every particular point. So by highlighting a
particular sadhaka's mistake in public, then if 4 or 5 others were doing
the same wrongdoing then naturally they would get also alarmed. And the
feeling would come that they too should rectify themselves. As they
understood that Baba is very concerned and strict on this point.

Plus, another reason is that naming the defects on the public platform was
a good way of reminding one and all. Because day after day or every few
days if He was pointing out a different  margii or Wt on the point of
fasting, then it automatically became a reminder to all those present that
this was something important. So if anyone was attending the reporting for
an entire week or two week period, then numerous reminders they would get.

And invariably they would spread that idea to others who did not attend.

Here we should keep in ming that as Guru Baba was pointing out the defects
of disciples from the very beginning, not just in later years. From the Jamalpur
era up to the grand DMCs in the late 80's, Babe would point out, beat, and His
shower love. This was all done for our welfare. By this way we could grow and move on towards Suprem fulfillment. Baba is the dharma Guru and His special quality is to both love and punish.

Baba says, "The preceptor must also be nigraha (capable of inflicting punishment) and anugraha (capable of bestowing grace). One who punishes only or who bestows grace only is not an ideal preceptor." (ANIWL-9)

                    WHY POINT OUT IN PUBLIC

Hence overall there were at minimum two distinct reasons for pointing
people out in front of the collective: lack of time to speak to everyone on
an individual basis and by this way it was a good reminder to one and all.
Thus within a short period Baba could rectify and instill proper practices
within countless sadhakas within the entire Marga. Overall we can say it
was His special technique and blessing.

And surely every Margii and Wt will readily admit that Baba is very strict
on the point of fasting. And He wants that we should all be sincere on this
very point. As He tells us again and again in various ways that indeed He
is always watching our each and every action to ensure our welfare.

I hope others will also come forward and share their experiences on this
very topic.

                            BABA'S BLESSING

Here following is Baba's Blessing:

Baba says, "You boys and you girls do you realise why you were born? You
were born to do something to please Parama Purusa. Always move towards
Parama Purusa through your actions, through your thoughts, through your
contemplation, and your goal will be attained, your purpose in coming to
this world will be fulfilled." (SS-18)

Namaskar,
Satyanarayan Deva

                       OUR SANSKRIT NAMES

Baba says, "At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do not
have a Sanskrit name should be given one by the ácárya/á. The word deva should
be suffixed to the name...the more the usage of deva as a title, the better it
is. The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings." (Caryacarya-1)

BREAKING THE FAST ITSELF-- A "HOW TO" PROCESS

1. First mix 1/4 piece of lemon or lime with some salt in a dry container--
preferably a plastic or ceramic container, but not metal.

2. Then add 1/2 litre to 1 litre of warm water and stir.

3. The lemon salt water mixture should be distinctly salty to taste-- but
not overly salty.

4. If your mixture is not sufficiently salty then little by little more can
be added. And if really it is already too salty then simply dilute your
mixture by adding more warm water.

5. Then one should begin to drink this lemon salt water. Not in one gulp
per se, but in a series of comfortable sips and swallows over the course of
a few minutes, without bloating the stomach. But one should not take too
much time either.

6. After finishing that initial round of salty lemon water then one can
walk nearby for a minute or two-- either in the fresh air or indoors.

7. Plus you can gently stretch the upper body by raising the arms on the
inhale and then exhaling and gently bending to the side. And repeat by
bending to the opposite direction. This gently helps to hasten the
cleansing process.

8. Then as soon as one feels ready to again drink, then the next round of
lemon salt water should be taken. Note: It is important not to wait too
long in between rounds. As soon as the stomach feels comfortable one should
again drink.

9. And like this multiple rounds should be done of drinking lemon salt
water and then walking slowly. This process should be repeated until one
feels the need to go to the toilet. And overall upwards of 2-3 litres of
lemon salt water can be ingested in this way. (Note: But under no
circumstances should solid food be taken yet. Rather this will wreak havoc
on the system as fresh food will be sitting on top of waste material. So no
food should be taken at all until the entire system gets clear.)

10. By this process of drinking round after around, a strong urge will come
to go to the toilet-- within 1/2 hour to one hour, depending. And initially
when in the toilet a very strong smelling brown waste matter will be
released. And thereafter progressively more and more liquids will be
released via the rectum. This will also be brown at the beginning. But one
should not worry that they have been stricken with a severe case of
diarrhea. It is not like that. Rather this is the initial stage of cleaning
out the digestive track.

11. Once one has begun the process of defecating & clearing the stomach and
bowels. Then you can switch over from drinking a salty mixture and instead
begin taking pure fresh water without any salt. This fresh water will help
hydrate the body and will also aid in the cleansing process.

12. In this process of cleaning one might have to visit the toilet anywhere
between 3-5 times, or more. And one important thing to remember is that
never should the urge be suppressed and "held in". Rather as soon as the
impulse comes one should go straight to the toilet.

The waste material will go from brown and somewhat solid to being yellowish and
liquidy until finally being a completely clear liquid. And once completely clear
liquid comes then in this case one can feel assured that indeed the entire digestive
track has become clean-- including the intestines, colon, and stomach. Everything has
become perfectly clean.

14. And by this entire process of cleansing a very light and healthy
feeling will consume the body. And one will fell very happy, fresh, and
energetic.

15. Within ten to fifteen minutes a slight feeling of hunger will come. And
at that point one can eat 2-3 ripe bananas, depending on the size. But the
bananas should be soft and ripe-- not green and hard.

16. And then after taking a few bananas-- and do be careful not to overeat
and fill the stomach completely-- then after waiting 25 minutes it is
important to again drink some fresh water. This will help in digesting the
banana.

17. And thereafter when stronger hunger comes one should take some easily
digestible food-- like well-hydrated rice and vegetables, or whatever is
conveniently available in your area or locale. But neither strong food like
citrus fruit nor heavily spiced or oily food should be taken. These should
be avoided and instead more simple food should be eaten.

18. And throughout the day care should be taken to continue to drink fresh
water in small amounts, but not at the same time as eating. This will help
ensure the solid food gets digested properly and it will also keep the body
hydrated.

Attention: One should also keep in mind that breaking fast is a highly
individualized thing. Everyone should be gentle and listen to their own
body when undergoing this entire process.

                                  PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Tumi a'ma'y hrdaya ma'jhe eso go priyo madhurata' ma'khi..."    (P.S. 747)

Purport:

Baba, please come in my heart and saturate my entire being with the
showering of Your sweetness, O' my dear most.
Baba please remove my all impurities and negative samskaras-- and
whatever other things I have that got accumulated over the ages. Please
inundate my entire existence with the showering of Your love and divine
grace.   Baba, this entire universe, these seven lokas, nothing is beyond Your
reach. Everything is within You. And because everything resides in You,
that is why You know all my merits and demerits-- whatever I have. By Your
Grace today I am surrendering whatever that is mine unto You. With the only
desire that You please look towards me with Your compassionate eye, eyes
full of karuna'. This wee-bit of grace I long from You.
Baba, since ages, since many lives, I have been crossing through the
negative path, path of dogma. But today by Your grace, this is the first
time in my entire life when You awakened my samvit and now I understood my
mistakes. And I rectified them by Your grace.
Baba, all my actions, my entire being, my whole heart, everything I
offer at Your lotus feet. I do not want to keep anything as my own from
henceforth onward. With this pointed mind I am doing sastaunga pranam to
You. Please accept it...

                        ROOT LANGUAGES

Baba says, "When a swift horse runs its hooves make a turtur sound. That
which makes a turtur sound as it moves is called turaga or turaunga or
turaungama (that is, "horse"). That animal which makes a kurkur sound as it
runs is called kuraga or kuraunga or kuraungama (that is, "deer"). In this
way human beings have created many word forms and verb forms to express
their mental ideas. This process of word formation is called "acoustic
derivation" and the original verbal roots in all the world's languages were
created in this way."
"The first word forms in all the world's languages were the original
verbal roots. By adding prefixes and suffixes many different words were
derived. Among the established languages of the world, mainly four can be
considered as the root languages. They are Vedic, Latin, Hebrew and old
Chinese. If one examines the derivation of the vocabulary of these
languages one will find that their method or process is identical. (Varn'a
Vijina'na, Disc 19, p. 270)

Baba

"A'mi pather hadish pa'i ni, ta'i toma'r pa'ne cali ni..."    (PS 1338)

Purport:

Baba, in the past I did not get the direction of the proper path. Because of
that I could not come close to You. Your and my relation was hidden in dark. I
was not aware about You. In that past I could not get Your introduction. And I
could not link up in our close intimate relation which, in reality, has been
going on since a very long time.

In my misunderstanding, I was thinking that nobody is mine, and that to feel
love and affection is not my fate.  I was thinking that my life does not have
any value. That I will not get respect in my life, just it will be filled with
disrespect and neglect.

Baba, today You have blessed me and changed everything. Now I feel that my
life has become meaningful, because You are mine. My heart is filled with Your
love. Baba, by Your grace I surrender at Your lotus feet, O' Baba...

== BABA'S PHOTO IN THE WRONG PLACE ==

Namaskar,
Many are aware that recently one book was published about Baba. The book's cover features a large photograph of Baba. Here are some thoughts about that.

THE PHOTO ITSELF

The photo depicts Baba sitting on a wall with a lake in the background. Baba has one leg towards the ground and the other leg bent with His foot propped up on the wall. The bottom of Baba's foot is in full view, directly facing the reader. Baba is not wearing any shoes or socks. The picture was taken in a remote area away from town - no one else is around. The whole scene is quite intimate.

It should also be noted that this photo was taken in Barackpur (West Bengal) on 26th December 1960. This photo was not even taken in Jamalpur nor in the surrounding area.

We all have to think if this photo should be placed on a book cover or not. After all, "a picture speaks a thousand words", and this photo is the way we are presenting Baba to the general public - via the Internet, book stalls etc. Anyone and everyone can see Baba in this pose. So we have to think if this is proper.

SANCTITY OF GURU'S PHOTO

Before discussing this matter in greater detail, we should remind ourselves once again of Baba's following teaching.

Baba says, "You shall protect, in all respects and at all costs, the dignity of your treasures and the sanctity of...the pratikrti [photo] of Márga Guru." (Carycarya Part 1, Treasures of Ananda Marga)

Hence, Baba places tremendous importance on the keeping the sanctity of the photo. We must adhere strictly to Baba's mandate.

IS THIS AN APPROPRIATE PHOTO

FOR THE COVER OF A BOOK SOLD IN THE GENERAL MARKET?

Now let's step by step analyse the placement of Baba's photo on the cover of this book.

1. First and foremost, this photo of Baba is too informal for a book cover. Baba is in a relaxed pose. His feet are not covered and His dress is very casual. This photo is not for general social use. We should take a deeper look at the matter.

2. In Caryacarya Part 2, in His chapter "Social Norms", Baba has given the following teaching:

Baba says, "Do not sit in a “zamindary posture” and dance your feet in a silly manner." (CC-2, Social Norms, point #21)

But by seeing the cover photo on the recently published book, any member of the public can say that the Guru of Ananda Marga is doing what He Himself tells should NOT be done in public - He is sitting in zamindary posture. So this is indeed a sensitive issue.

Baba Himself always represents all of His teachings perfectly. Every Ananda Margii knows this. We understand that in this particular situation when Baba is by Himself in private then He can sit as He wishes. Whereas in a social setting, He would never sit like this. However, now that this photo has been used as a book cover for all to see, members of the general public will question the matter. They will wonder why Baba is in such a pose in public, when He Himself says not to sit like this.

3. Here the point is also that the above photo is way too informal and casual to use for a book cover that will appear on book stores in countries all over the globe - as well as on-line. Baba is in a casual pose not meant for public view. His intention was never that this would be a public photo. He did not permit this photo to be sold to the general public or during DMC etc. Indeed, everyone knows that this photo was never openly available for sale by our Public Relations Dept etc. This was a rare photo meant only for devotees. That is why Baba is in such a casual and informal pose. In public He would never present Himself in this manner. Those who have attended DMC know Baba would never have sat on stage like this in the pandal.

It is just like when in His room Baba would just wear a short-sleeve shirt and lungi. But when going onto the dais for DMC, then Baba would dress very meticulously because this was a public event.

The best recourse is not to place Baba's photo on the cover of the book at all. What was done in this case is not at all appropriate. Members of the general public will form a poor opinion of Baba because of His dress. And by displaying this photo publicly, we are going against Baba's wishes.

BABA'S SPECIAL GUIDELINE DURING DMC

4. Shortly after Baba first gave His kaoshikii dance then He had to explain to margiis how to practice it properly. Everyone had to know which portion of the foot should touch the ground. At one DMC in Gwalior (Nov 25, 1979) when Baba was reviewing kaoshikii, He told the audience that as a general rule: "As a point of decency, one should not show their bare feet in public." And showing the bottom of the foot is worst.

This itself is sufficient logic that the aforementioned photo should be removed from the cover of the book. It is going against Baba's own teachings. Any non-margii will make jokes about this. That is sad.

MORE POINTS ABOUT THE BOOK COVER

5. This book has been written for margiis and non-margiis, i.e. the general public. In such circumstances, Baba would present Himself in formal dress. But this photo goes against this mandate.

6. We must also remember that on points of presentation and professionalism, the standard of the public is quite high. In this high-gloss, dazzling internet era, everyone is accustomed to fancy graphics and slick packaging. Whereas the cover of this book is quite informal, even casual. By this photo, they will naturally form a poor opinion of Baba. That is sad and that itself goes against the purpose of the publication of this book.

7. The only type of person who could select such an informal photo for the cover of a book is one who does not have any sense or is ignorant and not aware of Baba's teachings of Caryacarya, and related discourses.

Baba says, "Do not sit in a “zamindary posture” and dance your feet in a silly manner." (CC-2, Social Norms, pt #21)

Even then they put this photo on the cover of the book for all to see.

For clarity's sake, the above guideline is a social norm. If anyone is alone, then one can sit this way in the privacy of their own home or in a remote place. And that is what Baba is doing in this photo. His intention was that this photo would never be used in a public manner. But that is what the book publishers have done - they put it on display for all to see.

8. As we know, each and every book related with Baba and Ananda Marga is for the propagation of AM ideology. But the very cover of this book is doing something else. Some will look at this photo and conclude that Baba is rude or that He is not aware how to express Himself in public. All of this is very painful for any true Ananda Margii.

9. Members of the general public do not have the requisite regard or reverence for Baba that we have. So when seeing this photo they will make jokes about Baba and think poorly of Him.

10. Baba did not use such photos for His books. Because His photos are personal and His books are meant to be purchased by the general public. There is no AM book where such an intimate photo of Baba is on the cover.

HOW PROUT NUTSHELL WAS PUBLISHED

11. When publishing the book series, Prout in a Nutshell, Baba Himself checked all the photos in Central Office for hours & hours looking for a suitable picture. At that time Baba was more than 60 years of age, but He chose a photo of when He was young for the Prout books. That way youths can identify with Him as a social leader. But again, even then Baba used a formal picture and it was not placed on the cover of the book for all to see. Rather that picture is displayed on the inside pages. The newly published book contravenes Baba's entire approach.

12. When margiis see this cover of this newly published book and the informal photo it displays, they will also emulate that posture. They will sit like this in public. And some will even question the veracity of Caryacarya & insist that this social norm point was not given by Baba.

RESPECT AND REVERENCE A MUST

13. We have utmost regard for Baba and His photos. That is Baba's divine mandate.

Baba says, "You shall protect, in all respects and at all costs, the dignity of your treasures and the sanctity of your ..... pratikrti [photo] of Márga Guru." (Carycarya Part 1, Treasures of Ananda Marga)

Thus we are to keep the sanctity of His photo. Indeed it is for this reason we do not display varabhaya mudra in public. No true bhakta will carelessly display any Baba photo in public. Yet with this book we are going against all social norms of Ananda Marga and the sanctity of Baba's photo. It is just a book after all and booksellers may place it on the sidewalk, railway platform and in all kinds of places in order to attract buyers. Hence, Baba's divine photo will be compromised in all kinds of ways since this photo is on the cover itself.

13. When other religions or spiritual groups publish their books they never use a casual photo of their revered leader on the book's cover. They always display an official photo.

But we have a different system: Baba's photo is never on cover. The idea is this: We should not to use any photo at all on the cover and instead use an official photo on the inside pages. Just like Baba did with His Prout Nutshell and other series.

This begs the question that why then was a photo of Baba placed on the cover of this newly published book. Many say the reasoning behind it is to highlight Bengal, since it is well known that this photo was taken in Barackpur, West Bengal.

14. All in all this is a sad event. On the one side it is good that this book was published but it was not good to use that photo. That ruins the whole feeling of the book.

VERY INTIMATE PHOTO

15. This photo is only for extremely close devotees who meditate and wish to massage His feet, not for the general public.

Just as you do not wish to display bedroom photos of yourself in the public arena, similarly this photo of Baba is not meant for public distribution.

16. This is the era of external superficial beauty - so no need to put Baba's photo. In comparison to glossy movie stars and fake gurus, those with no devotion will think this book cover is useless. Secondly, to present a more substantive story, we do not need to use glossy photos just a proper written account. Not putting any photo at all gives a better impression and more attraction for the reader.

19. Baba is very strict that margiis and wts be clean in public otherwise people will formulate a poor opinion of us. Should we not apply this same principle when presenting our revered Guru Baba to the general public.

MUST CORRECT WRONGLY PUBLISHED MATERIALS

THEY SHOULD NOT BE SOLD

20. It is Baba's rule that if any publication is wrong then that will be withdrawn from the market and corrected. It is the same as how poisonous food must not be sold, even if you have spent money getting that food.

All the above stands as sufficient logic that the aforementioned photo should be removed from the cover of the book. It is going against Baba's own teachings. Any non-margii will make jokes about this. That is sad.

BABA'S BLESSING

21. Finally, this is a very rare and intimate photo. It is meant to be used on the puja table only - certainly not on the cover of any book.

22. Let us conclude with Baba's teaching:

Baba says, "You shall protect, in all respects and at all costs, the dignity of your .... of the pratikrti [photo] of Márga Guru." (Caryacarya)

Please write in with your thoughts.

Namaskar,
Moksa
