Baba

"Toma'ya a'mi bhla'loba'si, a'mi toma'ra a'jina'ka'ri..." P.S. 4589

Purport:

Baba, I love You. I feel fortunate when obeying or carrying out Your order.
By Your grace, I pass my whole days always involved in shravan, manan, and
nidhidhyasana. I am always engaged in Your ideation.

In true sense I do not know whether I love You or not. I do not even want
to know whether I am loving You or not. Please be gracious and
compassionate and bless me with devotion. This is the only thing I want--
to remain at Your lotus feet.

With my whole existence-- my body, my heart, & my mind, I do sastaunga
pranam at Your lotus feet. Baba, please grant me devotion...

== IGNORANT TEACHER: RESTLESS TO TEACH ==

Namaskar,
A discussion of critical importance has come up on one listserv. The topic was related with our Ananda Marga shastra (scripture): Which books of Ananda Marga ideology can and should be updated now and in the future, and which ones are permanent and will never change.

A few Dadas came forward to resolve this issue and give instructions to others, but unfortunately their answers did not match Baba's guidelines.

TRI-SHASTRA SYSTEM OF ANANDA MARGA

As we all know, in our Ananda Marga we have the tri-shastra system: Darshan shastra or philosophical treatise; dharma shastra or spiritual treatise; and samaj shastra or social treatise. As Baba driects us, only the social treatise will ever undergo change.

Our philosophical treatise (Ananda Sutram etc) and spiritual treatise (Subhasita Samgraha, Namah Shivaya Shantaya, Ananda Vanii etc) will never change. Those two treatises are directly linked with Parama Purusa and Parama Purusa Himself never changes. He is that eternal Divine Entity that undergoes no change. So no matter how much humans evolve, still the philosophical and spiritual treatises of Ananda Marga will remain as is. They will never change or be updated. They are permanent, i.e. perfect across time and space.

Anyone confused about this should reference Baba's discourses: Prápta Vákya and Ápta Vákya, Our Spiritual Treatise, Our Philosophical Treatise, etc.

Baba's following teaching make this perfectly clear:

Baba says, "The books in Ananda Marga philosophy are all absolute knowledge [ie. permanent truths, not relative knowledge]. The proper mark of identity of absolute knowledge is that it must be universal, rational and psychological. Certain instances of absolute knowledge are as follows – the goal of human life is the attainment of Brahma; human beings are the progeny of Parama Puruśa; this universe is created by the macrocosmic conation; matter is the crudified form of the universal mind; by dint of sádhaná or spiritual practices human beings gradually become divine; whoever is born will have to die one day; liberation is the birth right of all living beings; human society is one and indivisible; diversity is the law of nature; no two entities in this universe are uniform." (Prout Nutshell-18, Prápta Vákya and Ápta Vákya)

WHAT SENIOR ACARYA DIARY SAYS

Plus in Senior Acarya Diary, Baba has clearly told that in a one-line statement the dharma shastra (spiritual scripture) and the darshan shastra (philosophical scripture) of Ananda Marga will never ever change. They are permanent. They are both dharmika shastra. That is they are both apta vakya as their subject matter matter deals exclusively with Parama Purusa. So they will never change; this point is not up for debate.

Baba Himself has given this guideline in Senior Acarya Diary in the section titled svadhyaya. Tragically, for whatever reason, some of our Dadas (i.e. avadhutas) are not aware about the teachings from the Senior Acarya Diary, so they could not properly guide others about this.

CONCLUSIVE POINT

Here again the key point is the Parama Purusa is the non-changeable Entity and when His philosophical and spiritual treatises are directly related with Him, then there is no question of changing or updating those books. That will never be done. That means His original discourses published in Ananda Sutram, Ananda Vanii Samgraha, Ananda Vacanamrtam etc will never be changed.

WHY THE VARIOUS RELIGIONS CHANGE THEIR SCRIPTURE

The question then arises, why are some senior Dadas in our Marga raising this matter that our scriptures (philosophical and spiritual) should be changed? What has prompted this defective mode of thinking?

One reason is that they are emulating what is going on in the dogmatic religions. At present, it is trendy and fashionable to deviate from one's religion. Becoming a "moderate" follower of the religion is looked upon as being progressive. Being moderate means changing those outdated religious codes. After all those codes are hundreds of years old and illogical so they need to be changed.

Here are but a few ways the religions are changing: Now widows are no longer burned to death; alcohol is no longer banned; promiscuous women are no longer stoned to death; and, creationism has been discarded as more and more adopt the theory of evolution. These are but a few of the many changes going on. And those who embrace these changes are looked up as being "moderate" or "progressive".

Thus it is the style to be a moderate in the religions these days. The reason being their religious scriptures and edicts were dogmatic and irrational from the outset. They needed to be changed and those who put forth those updates gained respect.

Seeing this drama unfold, some naive people in AM began copying this religious trend and decided it would be best to change the shastras of Ananda Marga as well.

But, in AM the situation is totally different. Baba's divine teachings are perfect and timeless - not dogmatic. So our dharmshastra and darshan shastra will never be changed. Changing His dharmic guidelines means falling into dogma. What Baba has given should be kept as is - and followed strictly. We are not to change His dharma shastra nor darshan shastra.

Even if the whole world is veering in another direction we should keep the course and follow Baba strictly.

Just because masses from the various religions drink alcohol and / or eat meat, that does not mean then we should also drink alcohol and eat meat - this it a totally inane idea. One should never do like this.

BABA'S TEACHINGS ARE PERMANENT

Baba's philosophical and spiritual discourses will never need to be change. Baba's teachings like Ananda Sutram and Ananda Vanii are permanent. They will never be changed or updated.

It is just like how 2 + 2 = 4. It will always remain so. 2 + 2 will never equal 5 or 8, regardless of how much humans advance. That equation, 2 + 2 = 4, will always be true across time and space.

Likewise philosophical and spiritual injunctions (like Ananda Sutram and Ananda Vanii) will not change; they are a constant. They are grounded in eternal truth. That is true of Baba's entire body of teachings which are part of His darshan and dharma shastra.

Only the social treatise (Caryacarya) will undergo change - and even then that change will not happen for a long, long time.

Regardless of the passage of millions of years and all kinds of human development, our spiritual treatise and philosophical treatise will never change. They are permanent.

So no one can make the claim that Baba's original Ananda Vaniis will undergo change or that Ananda Sutram will be updated etc. That is not going to happen. Baba has given those as permanent teachings for humanity.

Namaskar,
Tapeshvar

Note 1: HOW THIS TOPIC CAME TO THE FORE

Here is the sequence of events of how this topic was raised and how two avadhutas veered from Baba's truth.

Firstly, one new & naive margii wrote as follows. But my concern is not so much with him because after all he is new. Rather it was shocking to see how two of our esteemed Dadas replied.

Here first is what that new margii wrote:

"How do you know that the Ananda Sutram and other things have not changed?  Remember Baba said that we will have more subtle vrtiis in the future...His Ananda Sutram might changed by then. His vaniis too might change.  Everything might change. Open your mind brother! Many things might still change or might be subject to change in the future. We must not be closed-minded to changes." (New margii)

So this new margii thinks the Baba's darshan and dharmashastra will be changed - that is pardonable as he is not aware of Baba's teachings. What more can be said than that.

But see here how two of our avadhutas responded on the public forum:

1) Dada Kalyaneshvarananda was 100% support of the above margii's statement about changing Baba spiritual and philosophical guidelines.

Kalyaneshvaranandji wrote: "Yes, Brother S is right."

So Kalyaneshvarananda fully support's the new margii's stance that the Ananda Vaniis, Ananda Sutram etc could and should be changed. Thus both Dada K and the new margii are against Baba's edict that His scripture is permanent. They advocate changing Baba's philosophical and spiritual guidelines.

2) Now see Viitaragananda's reply:

"Dharshan Shastras: philosophical treatise on subjects which may change slowly in the future as our mental horizons expand. - it includes Ananda Sutram and Idea and Ideology." (Viitaragananda)

Astonishingly, Ac Viitaragananda Avt also publicly supported & even justified the wrongful view that Baba's darshan shastra (philosophical treatise) will be changed. That is shocking that as a a revered avadhuta - whose life is dedicated for preaching Baba's ideals - Dadaji does not know the nature of Baba's teachings. He does not know that Baba's philosophical teachings are permanent. Dada advocates the view that humans will change the philosophy of Taraka Brahma. That is indeed shameful.

But we we say he is not the only one.

Since long Dadas like Kalyanesvarananda have advocated that Baba's philosophical and spiritual teachings will be updated. Dadaji has talked about this openly on numerous occasions after dharmacakra, at seminars and meetings, in table talk discussions, and at retreats etc. When anyone raises the matter then Dadaji advances his faulty view that it will be required and needed for sadhakas and purodhas to take up the task of changing and updating Baba's philosophical and spiritual teachings. Dadaji always talks like this.

And indeed if you want proof, just write Dada an email (prs@anandamargacentral.org) and ask him.

Of course any rational and right-minded Ananda Margii clearly knows that Baba's spiritual and philosophical teachings are perfect and permanent and they will not be changed or updated in any way.

Note 2: IF DO NOT KNOW THEN DO NOT SAY

In His WT conduct rules, Baba has clearly mandated that when one is not sure of the correct answer then they should seek out the right answer and certainly one should not give the wrong answer:

Baba says, "One should not give any false answers but one should consult with one's senior for the correct answers." (37 Workers Rules, Pt #32)

Certainly then Dadas like Viitaragananda and Kalyaneshvarananda should not come forward so hastily and give their opinions when their own stated views are diametrically opposed to Guru. Baba says His spiritual and philosophical teachings are beyond time and space and should never be changed yet these two Dadas are telling that Baba's divine guidelines need to be updated. Clearly then such Dadas should consult their senior for the correct answer before responding again on this point.

Note 3: THE BLIND GUIDES

All in all the situation of these two Dadas - Viitaragananda & Kalyaneshvarananda -  is just like blind men in the following story.

Baba says, "Suppose three blind people feel an elephant to find out what it is like. The one who feels the legs might think that the elephant resembles the trunks of banana trees, the one who feels the trunk may think that the elephant is like a pipe, and the one who feels the ears may think that the elephant is like bamboo trays." (Ananda Marga Ideology and Way of Life - 9, The Science of Action)

Indeed these three blind men have no idea what they are talking about. They are just confused and do not know that subject at hand.

It seems that Dadas Viitaragananda and Kalyaneshvarananda are in the same unseemly position. They are just off the mark when talking about the shastra of Ananda Marga. Yet they insist on trying to teach others.

In this situation, we can only conclude:

Andhenaeva niiyamánáh yathándháh

Blind person is the guide
