'Outsourcing' Publications Work

Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2008 22:46:38 -0400 To: am-global@earthlink.net From: Pradiip Subject: 'Outsourcing' Publications Work Baba "Shun'echi tumi dayalu, ka'je keno anya dekhi..." (P.S. 2125) Purport: O' Parama Purusa, I have heard that You are the merciful one-- why then by Your work and by Your action do I see something different. For You my eyes are showering; my days are passing in calling and longing for You. Baba You know that I love You. Although I am meagre but even then I am Your atom. The pain of the unit is the pain of the Universal; the pain of the atom is the pain of the Cosmic. Don't You understand this simple truth. O' Dearmost, please go on doing according to Your desire. Only my request is that You keep me along with You. The pain and grief of my heart cannot be covered. The suffering of my heart will not listen to Your various justifications and excuses; it cannot be appeased by the mere jugglery of words. Baba, I want Your proximity and closeness. Baba, in the scriptures and by seeing Your glory, I heard from other devotees that You are love personified and merciful. And that You are caring for others. So many good attributions You have. But when dealing with me I see something totally different. Here I am crying in longing, and You do not care. Why like this? Please grace me and come close...
== OUTSOURCING PUBLICATIONS WORK ==
Namaskar, It is commonly known that at present, in one camp, some high-ranking Dadas are employing non-margii translators from the general society in order to publish our Ananda Marga books. That is how they are getting the latest round of Baba's books ready to print. And this seems to be their plan for the foreseeable future as well. Such an approach raises two knotty questions: (1) Why is it that outside people are needed to do this work-- i.e. why is it that up till now our Publications Department has not been able to create and sustain a dedicated team of margiis and LFT's etc to involve in this dharmic endeavour? (2) How far can paid non-margii translators be trusted to do the work properly when they are not doing sadhana and are not committed to Guru and His divine teachings? Those are the main issues which this letter aims to address. As always, everyone should write in with thoughts, comments, suggestions, and recommendations.
IMPORTANCE OF BABA'S BOOKS
As we all know, Baba's books are our AM scripture. And this is the first time in human history that we have the opportunity to properly preserve the scripture of Mahasambhuti. In the past, both Lord Shiva's teachings and Lord Krsna's teachnigs were decimated by the ruling priests etc. This time things can be different. Everything can be kept in tact-- "as is". We have the unique chance to keep all of Baba's books in pristine condition. And this will be a tremendous boon for the present day and future humanity. So preserving all of Baba's discourses through the proper publication of Baba's books is of utmost importance. Since it is only by His teachings that humanity will be able to progress. This every single person in AM knows; there is no need to convince anyone of this.
QUESTION #1: WHY IS THERE NO MARGII TEAM?
The question naturally arises then that why is it that from 1990 up till now the Publications Department has not been able to form a dedicated & reliable team of Ananda Margii volunteers to engage in this most noble endeavour of translating and publishing Baba's books. After all, margiis have a deep desire to have Baba's books; margiis are also dedicated for the establishment of Baba's mission; margiis have a long history of noting down Baba's original discourses; plus, there are so many other positive elements. Everything seems to be pointing in a most favourable direction for creating a solid team of margii translators etc. Then where did things go astray? Why is there no committed cadre of Ananda Margiis associated with our Publications Department?
FAMILY FEELING NEEDED
We all know that when there is a family feeling and people are working cooperatively towards a common goal-- like the publication of Baba's books-- then that generates a collective vibration that propels the work forward by attracting more and more people to the project. This is the way it works when there is mutual respect and concern for others' well-being. That is how a team gets formed. And prior to 1990, it was all working in this manner.
WHY A TEAM COULD NOT GET CREATED
Unfortunately, since 1990, this spirit of coordinated cooperation has been severely lacking in the working style of certain top Dadas. For that reason, over the last 17 years they could not assemble a cohesive team of Ananda Margiis for this most important project of publishing Baba's books. Because when, with their devotion to Baba, margiis did come forward to help in this endeavour, then top Dadas just treated those margiis & LFTs as 2nd class citizens or as their lackeys. In their 'higher-than-thou' manner Dadas would eat sumptuous meals in their private kitchens and oversee the work from a distance-- stopping in here and there to give orders for a moment, and then returning to their cozy existence while margiis and lfts were just left to manage amidst difficult working conditions etc. This was the way it was happening. In such a repressive atmosphere totally devoid of mutual respect, it was utterly impossible to develop that neat, cohesive team that is so essential for the successful continuation of this important work. Because those top-dog Dadas did not have an ounce of family feeling towards those margiis who were coming forward to help. And in that starved & imbalanced environment, the whole thing lost its momentum. This type of tailspin was going on not just in Publications but in countless AM departments. And the residual effect is that the AM Publications Department could never get its feet on the ground and move ahead. Rather it just lagged farther and farther behind until now there seemingly was no other recourse than to hire non-margiis to do the job. That is the pathetic scene which has transpired.
QUESTION #2: CAN NON-MARGIIS BE TRUSTED?
This then begs the question, can non-margiis be trusted to do this holy work of translating and publishing Sadguru's divine discourses? This is something we all must seriously consider & evaluate, at least for a moment. Then surely the answer will instantly flash into the mind.
NEEDED INGREDIENTS FOR DOING GREAT WORK
To do any great work-- like translate and publish Baba's discourses-- commitment and dedication are needed. And that commitment and dedication must come from within. That means one should be involved with their heart and mind. And from 1955 - 1990, that is the way the translation and publication work was proceeding in AM, by His grace. Devoted margiis and acaryas attended to all aspects of publishing Baba's discourses and they considered such work as being part of their very existence. It was all done out of their love and dedication to Ista. And to some or more degree this continued for sometime after 1990-- until everything & everyone just got too suffocated by the crude dealing of those Dadas.
OUTSOURCING THE TRANSLATION WORK
Such that now the work is being "outsourced", or "passed on", or "parceled out" to external agents who get paid by the hour etc. In that drastic situation, how is their work going to be up to the needed standard. Because they are just paid staff or "hired help" who have no inner link with Baba. They are in it for the money and money alone. And this has never been our way in AM. Sadhakas do out of love for Guru, not for a paycheck. That is how thousands of service projects & works have been done up till now. So now, suddenly, when they are paying non-margiis to do the translation work, then it is totally out of character for our Marga.
IT IS JUST LIKE...
It is just like if in one unit, a wealthy margii decided to hire a whole bunch of non-margiis and pay them to work as wholetimers in his particular unit. Such non-margiis would be purchased to do initiations, preach the ideology, serve others etc. Does it not sound ridiculous. Could such persons be trusted to carry out the work of being a wt on the crude notion that they were getting a paycheck. Certainly not. Despite the paycheck, those paid "wts" would fall flat on their face. Because they have not the slightest idea about Ananda Marga nor any connection with Guru. Or, let's look at it from the opposite direction: It is just like if Christian priests hired a whole bunch of Ananda Margiis to translate their scripture. Of course we could not do a proper job because we do not have the slightest interest in their dogmatic preachings. In that case, how could we work tirelessly toward that aim when our heart and mind are not connected with the work.
NON-MARGII TRANSLATORS CANNOT DO
Similarly those paid non-margii translators are not in any position to do the delicate work of translating Sadguru's discourses. It is a very fine work that demands a deep, heart-felt link with Baba and His teachings. So when such non-margiis do not understand even the most fundamental ideas of Ananda Marga, nor our AM vocabulary, nor are they interested in our AM way of life, then how can they be entrusted with such important and subjective work. Given their inherent deficit, they will surely misinterpret the spirit and ideas of Baba's discourses and / or confuse our dharmic AM terms with the dogmatic Hindu definitions etc. So from A - Z there are any number of reasons why such paid non-margii translators are totally unfit for the work of translating and publishing Baba's divine discourses. Because simply knowing the language is not enough. That is one of the lesser ingredients needed. First and foremost, one must be deeply connected with Baba with their heart and mind. That is the only way to carry out His great work. Failing that it will all go astray. And indeed, in the history of AM, Baba always used wts and margiis for the propagation of AM ideology-- not any paid non-margii types. Never. So now, all of a sudden to pay non-margii translators to do AM publication work is a trustless plan-- even laughable. Their work will be a mess and there will be countless mistakes made that will take years and years to fix. This is not at all the answer. Unfortunately that is the murky dealing that is now going on in our Publications department: This most sacred work of translating Baba's discourse is being carried out through the foolish approach of hiring non-margii translators. And, on the top, those Dadas paying those non-margiis are bragging around as if they have discovered the golden key. Reason being that when those Dadas themselves have no interest in the work then for them hiring any Tom, Dick, or Ram and Shyam off the street sounds like a glorious plan.
SOLUTION: DEDICATED PEOPLE NEEDED, NOT PAID EMPLOYEES
However Baba says that dharma can never be propagated by money or any other crude means. Ours is and always has been a "man-making mission" because only by having proper devotees can the message of Ananda Marga be propagated. Baba says, "From place to place, from age to age, the elixir of immortality has been flowing forever. Through the medium of human structures this message of immortality is transmitted onwards..." (A'nanda Va'nii #66) So Baba's divine guideline is that dedicated human beings-- not hired help-- is the way to propagate His divine mission. Hence, outsourcing AM work by hiring non-margii translators will never yield any proper fruit; rather it is only asking for trouble and more trouble. Communist infiltrators may get hired and seize upon the opportunity to sabotage the work and mundane Joe's will just be doing it for the paycheck. In that case, the outcome is bound to be horrible. Because history proves that all along it is only through the dedicated efforts of Ananda Margiis that the AM mission could move ahead, by His grace. Because ours is not a mere capitalistic enterprise. We are trying to create a nuclear revolution where we transform the very seed vessels of this materialistic human society into a God & dharma oriented flow of human movement. And that cannot be done by hired help. Rather, only through our own noble efforts can the work move ahead and by that way more and more AM sadhakas are bound to come forward and dedicate themselves to this glorious task. And by His grace surely it is going to happen. Until those top Dadas recognise this fact and until those top Dadas embark on this work with respect and family feeling for the margiis, then there is no hope in creating that needed team for doing the job of translating and publishing Baba's books. Always the work will lag behind and be riddled with mistakes. And that is the inevitable outcome of paying non-margiis to translate Baba's divine discourses.
BABA'S BLESSING
By Baba's grace, those who are connected with Him will establish His mission on this dusty earth. Baba says, "So you have to come in contact with your Supreme Father...You are all sa'dhakas, you are all spiritual aspirants, you will have to do it. And I know certainly you will be successful in your mission." (AV-33) Namaskar, Pradiip
Note: ALL SADHAKAS SHOULD SAY...
All AM sadhakas should give their thoughts on this as well as share their past experiences of doing Baba's work-- either in the field of pracar, publications, Prout, education, etc. This will help encourage the needed collective feeling to build a dependable team of AM translators. We should not live in the day-dream that non-margiis will do our work and establish Baba's mission. Rather standing tall we should recognise that His work is our work and only by that way will AM spread its wings on this earth and beyond. May we all come together on this very point. It will bring about the exponential growth of AM, by His grace. Parama Pita Baba Kii-- Jai!!
******************************************** Baba's Warning
Baba says, "Human civilization is not one flower, but a beautiful garden with innumerable flowers of so many scents and so many varieties...We should take proper care of this garden of civilization -- we must take proper care of each and every flower. If we do not do this there will be clashes, there will be imperialism. The owner of a piggery should not be allowed to use this garden-- the immoral pigs will uproot the trees and everything will be destroyed." (AV-30, p.95-6)

Don't Divide...Keep Unified

Date: 27 Apr 2008 22:19:35 -0000 From: "Gurucharan Yadav" To: AM-GLOBAL Subject: Don't Divide...Keep Unified Baba "Jyoti-ujjval pra'n'occhal tumi priya..." (P.S. 2229) Purport: Baba, O Parama Purusa, You are the controller of the universe. You are the brilliant effulgence-- full of vitality & saturated with the love. Baba, You are my dearmost. By Your own glory You are glorified; O Parama Purusa You are ever-adorable. Baba, I do not have the strength to catch hold of You. With my little strength and with whatever means I have, I try to catch You-- but it is impossible for me. Instead I remain engrossed in my own self-- unit "I". This 'unit I' is preventing me from coming close to You. Baba, please transform my 'I-feeling', make it Yours. With my own strength I will not be able to get You. With the thread of the spider's web I will not be able to bind You and hold You. Because of this, please by Your causeless grace, please allow Yourself to get held. This is my only request to You. Please keep this open for Your consideration. Baba, in my mind, in my heart, I have deep longing for You-- to have You. Please grant me this by Your causeless grace. Please come in my shravan, manan, niddidhyasan, & dhyana and make me Yours...
== DON'T DIVIDE...KEEP UNIFIED ==
Namaskar, Certainly in the near future our AM society will be one shining example for all the world to see. That is sure. But by looking around nowadays it is quite evident that the current state of our AMPS is not up to the proper standard, i.e. not up to Baba's standard. In such circumstances, we have full right then to raise the matter and make efforts to correct and solve the problems. That much every Ananda Margii has the right to do. But to take it upon oneself to divide the organisation or incite further division-- that is the worst type of maneuver. Unfortunately various group leaders are involved in this nasty scheme.
WHY DIVISION HAS NO SENSE
For example, just picture this. Suppose someone has a headache. In that condition, for them to chop off their own head is not the solution. Rather they should be given some medicine in order to relieve their headache.
NOWADAYS IN AMPS
Similarly, nowadays our organisation is also in problem. And certain separatist groups want to divide AMPS and by their divisive propaganda some innocent people are swayed. Even then those separatists attempt to claim that they are not dividing. Because even to their selfish ears it sounds harsh. So they try to cover it up. That is what some camps are doing. Then of course in the other corner, the current so-called administration is far, far off the track. That much is also obvious. Even then the bottom line is that splitting AMPS into pieces will make things more chaotic, not better. Maintaining unity is our way.
TWO AVENUES BY WHICH TO PROCEED
Thus we should follow Baba's teaching in both the directions. That is those who are sitting in the top chairs should be forced to adhere to Baba's guidelines. This much we can certainly demand. And by external pressure they will be forced to change to exit the post. That is half the equation. Then on the other side we should ensure that no one divides or further divides the organisation. And that is one extremely critical point about which Baba has warned us numerous times: "Don't Divide...Keep Unified".
SOME SCENARIOS TO CONSIDER
Here further are more circumstances and we should see to what degree these are consistent with Baba's teachings or not. 1. Should we allow that in each and every country there will be a different Ananda Marga. Is this consistent with Baba's teachings of forming one human society. 2. By dividing His organisation how far are we obeying Ista. And if we are not following Baba's ideal, then how is He going to be pleased and how will we establish His mission. 3. Always Baba is in our heart, mind, and soul, He is everything. Yet His most basic, mandatory teaching about unity has gotten overlooked. Because some groupist bandits have started their own very negative nefarious trend of division. And some selfish ACB members and innocent persons have gotten swept up into that division flow. Around town a few passive witnesses are just speechless thinking that it is fine. But we should think again about whether this is really okay or not. 4. Now in this ultra-modern society people are more free to do as they like, but we should see how far we are following Baba's teaching. That is our approach: Following Guru, not individualistic or selfish schemas. 5. If we do not attempt to clean the organisation and instead just divide it, such that in each and every country there is separate AM-- then how can we be confirmed that in those countries AM will not get divided. And if AMPS does get divided in each and every country then in the near future each and every state will have its own organisation with the same name-- AM. And when that state level AMPS cannot be maintained then each and every block or village will have its separate organisation. And one step further by dividing AMPS again then indeed each and every individual will have their own AM organisation. In this way the approach of dividing goes on and on. 6. Nowadays in this ultra-modern era to do anything great, unity is needed. That is why in all the realms of life people are trying to unite. Even selfish people are uniting such that political factions and corporations are merging together, for their own selfish interest. This we see happening every day-- because even crude, capitalistic people understand that unity is the only answer. That is the only pathway to success 7. Without one human society, humanity's problems cannot be solved. Nor can the problems of AMPS be solved. 8. So we have to see how far those involved in division are correct-- or not. We should see how far they are following Baba's ideals by dividing the organisation.
BABA'S GOLDEN GUIDELINES
On this entire issue here following are some of Baba's significant teachings: Baba says, "The unity of A'nanda Ma'rgiis should not be allowed to be jeopardised for any reason. Unity should be maintained even at the risk of your life." (CC, part II, 'Society' chapter, point #13) Baba says, "Always remain united and organised. Solve all problems big and small in a united way. Advise every Ananda Margii to remain united at all times." (Point #31 of '32 Rules for Avadhu'tas') Baba says, "Human Society is one and indivisible, don't try to divide it. Each and every individual should be looked upon as the manifestation of the Cosmic Entity." (Ananda Vanii, #21) Baba says, "Unity among the members of any society or social structure is absolutely necessary otherwise the structure will start disintegrating. Lack of unity among the members of society because of too much self-interest in the individual members, the formation of groups for economic or social advantage...not only brings about the downfall of society but also completely wipes it off from the face of the earth." (PNS-3, p.42) Baba says, "Those who indulged in vain criticism and slandering instead of trying to remove the factors diving the human race, created even more problems for society. That's why there is more disunity than unity in the human society today." (Human Society is One and Indivisible-2) Baba says, "The marching together of all in unison is termed as the society..." (Ananda Vanii, #24) Baba says, "The entire society of A'nanda Ma'rga is founded on a common ideal, the goal of becoming one with Brahma...the unity in a society founded on the ideal of Brahma will be everlasting." (PNS-3) Baba says, "Remaining together is natural for you, and to remain disunited is something unnatural. You know well that unnaturality is not tolerated by Prakrti. Unnaturality is ultimately destroyed. So it is natural for human beings to live together and to make a great Universe. By not doing so, and by mutual fight, all will be destroyed. This is the law of Prakrti. Hence, united you will have to remain, this is your duty. So that the people of the world may remain united, it is your duty to bring the Mahavishva as soon as possible." (MHB, p. 53) Baba says, "The only way to establish universalism is to bring about mental expansion through spiritual practice. The inculcation of the spiritual outlook will not only strengthen the boundaries between nations but will lead to the establishment of a universal state, a global nation, with a common thread of unity and aspiration. That nation will be known as the human nation." (AFPS-2) Baba says, "The following ensures unity in society-- a common ideal, a casteless society, collective social functions and no capital punishment." (PNS-3) Here Baba guides us what our outlook should be: "We are all the children of the same Father, we are all members of the same family. By fighting against all kinds of evil forces, we will establish the glory of our Father and the glory of our family." (Point #13 of 'Fourteen Points') Baba says, "Continuously inspire and encourage the common bonds of unity and thus strengthen humanity. Only then will the human society become one and indivisible. Only then will it be worthy of being called a 'human society'." (Prout-7, p. 27) In this important time, we should deeply reflect upon & follow Guru's mandates.
BABA'S BLESSING
Baba says, "There will be peace and happiness in the Universe, and, established in one indivisible ideology, humanity will march ahead toward the Supreme Goal. Victory be with you!" (MHB) Namaskar, Gurucharan
Note 1: DEVOTION IS THE KEY POINT
In times like these, certain people get caught up in a dilemma. Means they do not know what to do; they are unsure how to proceed. In that case, such persons-- those lacking in devotion-- get swayed by one or another justifications or false reasoning etc. And in that way they end up following the negative path In comparison, those more linked with Ista, those more established in devotion get some internal pull in the right direction. Or some feeling of suffocation comes which makes them feel averse to the negative path. So in both the conditions they are saved. Means for some or other reason they do not get lulled into following any negative party. And inside their heart gets more and more attracted dharmic ideals. This is how it works for devotees. But for those more externally oriented-- those with less devotion-they cannot decide for themselves how to escape from the dilemma, the quandary. Nor are they capable of receiving any guideline from within. In that confusion then they instead rely on faulty propaganda and in that way they get latched up with the wrong path. Whereas devotees get internal guidelines that keeps them on the path of dharma. Like this, dharma has its own special way of working. Indeed Baba guides us dharma works secretly. So when one is caught in dilemma and the mind gets fused by all the logic and reasoning, then best is to see with the heart, i.e. with the inner human feeling which is based on benevolence and welfare to all. Means those with a devotional heart will move in the dharmic way.
Note 2: DIVINE EXAMPLE: PAST AND CURRENT
In the past Lord Krsna's stated purpose was to bring together all the disparate parts of the then fractured India: Baba says, "Lord Krsna thought that if He combined all [the separate kingdoms] there would be collective spirit in the true sense of the term." (MHB, p.7) And likewise today Baba Himself has sent out the clarion call to build up one unified human society. So Baba's expressed purpose is to unify the entire humanity.
Note 3: THE ONENESS OF HUMANITY
Here again Baba is reminding us of the oneness of humanity.
"Ja'gat juriya' ek ja'te a'che..."
Baba says, "Throughout the world there is only one race. Its name is the Human Race. All are nourished with the same milk of Mother Earth. The sun and the moon are the companions of all." (PNS-7, p. 18)
****************************************** Mecca Pilgrimage
Baba says, "People generally want to live without intense sadhana in the spiritual sphere and without much effort in the mundane sphere. When people seek to acquire fortune or attain salvation without proper effort, then they try to remove their sins by visiting the so-called holy places." (NSS) Note 1: Right now the Haj or holy pilgrimage has begun for the Muslims as they make their way to Mecca. In their dogmatic view, they think that reaching to Mecca means getting closer to God. For this reason, millions of Muslims engage every year in this tour to Mecca. And tragically it is not uncommon for some or more to be stampeded to death. Rather than rectifying this problem those Muslims simply believe that those who died in the stampede reached directly to heaven. This is their misguided outlook. Hindus have a similar viewpoint with regards to the Khumba Mela. Of course in AM, on various levels we feel that such pilgrimages are terribly detrimental. That is why in AM we do not have any tiirthas; we do not subscribe to the holy land syndrome. That is the basic difference: by going to Mecca Muslims feel they are coming closer to God whereas in AM we feel always close God since He is in our heart. Unfortunately the followers of the dogmatic religions do not understand this slightly subtle point. Note 2: It is well known that Muslims always pray facing towards Mecca. Because the earth spins on it axis as well as revolves around the sun, this practice of facing towards Mecca could become problematic when Islamic people start living on the Moon or on other planets etc. What do you think.

Our Marga is Colourful

Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2008 23:27:38 -0000 To: AM-GLOBAL From: "Jawaharlal Thakur" Subject: Our Marga is Colourful Baba "(Tumi) a'lo jhalmal u's'a'y ele, a'ndha'rer ja'l chinrile..." (PS 3983) Purport: Baba, You have come in my heart when the blissful dawn was glittering in effulgence. By Your grace, You have wiped away the net of staticity and crude darkness from my mind. In a flash You have also removed the dogma which had accumulated since ages. Baba, You are so beautiful. O' my dearmost, You know how to make such a divine magical display. By Your grace You have created a heavenly panorama-- complete with the beauty and grandeur of colour, by Your divine play. Baba, in the blink of the eye, You bring lowly and depraved persons close to Your bosom, without making any differentiation or disparity about who is virtuous and who is sinful. Baba, You are my beginning as well as my end, my Goal, my everything. Baba, my whereabouts, my name, my place, my address-- everything has become one with You, by Your grace. Baba I offer You my heartfelt surrender and sastaunga pranam thousands, millions, crores, & an infinite number of times-- again & again. Baba, by Your divine grace You have advented in my heart and showered me in Your supreme effulgence. You are my own; You are my everything...
== OUR MARGA IS COLOURFUL ==
Namaskar, Our Ananda Marga is colourful. People have entered into AM with all kinds of mentalities, with all types of psychic tendencies, and with a diverse range of mental constitutions. To accommodate all, Baba has graciously given something for everyone. In turn, we have the opportunity to choose which approach suits us best. Some are oriented toward the path of jinana and some towards bhakti. Some prefer intellectual explanations whereas other tend towards devotional understanding. Some like to sing kiirtan thinking, 'I am overcoming all internal and external obstacles', while others may prefer simply to ideate only on Baba. Different minds prefer different thought ideations-- and that makes the world colourful. None should therefore think that any particular approach is the be-all, end-all. Because Baba has given and approved them all: From sadhana to microvita theory, from kiirtan to kaoshikii, from Prabhat Samgiita to sristi cakra, Baba has provided diverse explanations to appeal to the wide array of people & mentalities in AM. Hence, no one should feel pressured to adopt or limit oneself to a particular style, explanation, or reasoning. Because Ananda Margiis come in all shapes and sizes.
A FEW PRACTICAL EXAMPLES
Below are some clear-cut examples of how various AM practices can be pursued in different ways. (A) DHYANA: In dhyana, Baba has given various bhavas: Madhura bhava (lover relation), dasya bhava (Master-slave relation), vatsalya bhava (Parama Purusa a as child), sakhya bhava (friend relation), and Father-son relation etc. These are all approved methods, given by Baba, for doing dhyana. However that does not mean that every devotee must follow all of the above. Those involved in sakhya bhava may not have an iota of interest in vatsalya bhava, and vice versa. Thus every sadhaks has the power of choice: To experiment and see which one is most appropriate for their mental make-up, for their link with Parama Purusa. (B) PRABHAT SAMGIITA: With regards to Prabhat Samgiita, some prefer to analyse and study the style of music such as the type of raga or ragini, yet side by side Baba has also said that, 'Prabhat Samgiita is written with the ink of the love of the heart of the devotees'. So these are two vastly different ways of relating with Prabhat Samgiita. And it will depend upon one's mental characteristics as to which they prefer. Some opt for a more jinani approach whereas others prefer the more personal and intimate manner. Everyone can choose for themselves. (C) MICROVITA: About microvita, Baba has given vast and complex theories about this smallest energy form-- the ultimate building block of this universe. Chapters and chapters can be read and studied about this scientific phenomenon. And many jinanis may spend years immersed in that approach. At the same time, in His RU discourse, 'Microvitum and Its Effect on Human Body and Human Mind', Baba says, 'After all microvita is nothing but Cosmic grace, I just use the term microvita to make you laugh'. This He has said in Hindi part of His discourse, which was not printed. But if anyone listens to the cassette of His RU discourse, they will hear Baba say like this. So again, based on one's mentality, there are a variety of ways of thinking about microvita. (D) CREATION THEORY (Srsti Cakra): Similarly, one can think of creation theory using terms like jadasphota, pratisaincara, various tattvas, and other technical terminology, or one can simply think that, 'He was all alone, all by Himself, so He created this vast universe'. Thus depending on one's mental framework, there are varieties of ways of interacting with our AM practices and philosophy.
KAOSHIKII AND AVARTA KIIRTAN ALSO
And the same can be said with regards to kaoshikii and avarta kiirtan also. There is a very technical explanation of kaoshikii where one takes on a different ideation for each direction, and side by side one can simply think of pleasing Baba while doing their kaoshikii dance. In avarta kiirtan also there are two diverse approaches. In a more jinani style, the aspirant can adopt different ideations for each direction. And these ideations generally focus on oneself, 'I am cleansing myself with fire, I am controlling this universe, I am unstoppable', etc etc, or one can simply think of Baba and ideate on loving and pleasing Him. Some sadhakas may like a more technical & analytical explanation and some prefer the more simple approach of pleasing Him. Personally I prefer the latter way. I do not like to engage in all kinds of sophisticated or lengthy descriptions when dancing avarta kiirtan. Rather I prefer Baba's simple method of bringing the mind to sahasrara cakra and thinking of Him. But if others prefer to think, 'I am cleaning this entire universe etc' then that is also fine. We should always keep in mind that Baba has given something for everyone in Ananda Marga. And we should be accepting and tolerant of all the different styles and at the same time choose a way that is most appropriate for us.
PEOPLE HAVE COME INTO AM FOR DIFFERENT REASONS
After all, we have to remember that people have entered into AM for a vast array of reasons. Some have come because they wanted to travel overseas, some have come because they could not get a job in the private sector, some have come to escape their jail sentences, some have come to find a wife or husband, some have come to get away from their wife or husband, some have come to do karma yoga, some have come to get a high post, some have come to be regarded as a high yogi, some have come to fulfill His mission (A'tma moks'a'rtham' jagaddhita'ya ca), and some have come to please Him. Regardless, all are our brothers and sisters, we should embrace all, and help everyone become successful in their human life. There are various grades and we appreciate everyone. Some like to sing kiirtan thinking that they are becoming clean and becoming a force in this universe, and some like to sing for the sole reason of loving and pleasing Parama Purusa. It all depends on one's quality of mind as Baba has created something for everyone.
IN THE NOTES BELOW
Below, in the notes, are the technical descriptions of Avarta Kiirtan & Kaoshikii. And if one wishes to pursue their practice in that way they can. At the same time, no sadhaka should feel burdened that they must do their kiirtan and kaoshikii like that. Remember that Baba has explained His AM practices and philosophies in various ways to appeal to various grades of people, various standards of mind. Some are jinan oriented and some are bhakti oriented. Everyone should do what feels most comfortable for them. Baba has approved multiple ways for this very purpose: To appeal to one and all.
BABA'S BLESSING
By Baba's grace He has designed this Ananda Marga for everyone-- and verily all must come under the banner of AM. For this reason Baba has given diverse ways of explaining AM practices and AM ideology. Because everyone belongs in AM. Baba says, "Remember, until every person in the universe accepts the Ananda Marga ideology, you have no opportunity to rest." (CC-2) Baba says, "Now, these created beings, they being the progeny of the same father, are members of the same Universal Family. We must not forget this supreme fact." (AV-14) Namaskar, Jawaharlal
Note 1: PEOPLE DO SADHANA FOR VARIOUS REASONS
As there are various grades of sadhakas in AM, people do sadhana for various reasons. Some do sadhana to impress others, some do sadhana as one requirement so that they can take their meal, some only do sadhana in public, some fake their entire sadhana program, some do sadhana for mental peace, some do sadhana for self-realisation, some do sadhana to serve and please Him. So there are various grades of sadhakas in our Marga.
Note 2: TECHNICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF AVARTA KIIRTAN & KAOSHIKII
Here are two technical descriptions of our avarta kiirtan and kaoshikii practices. These may appeal to some whereas others may not like to be bothered by these more intricate approaches. In that case they may adopt a more simple, devotional outlook. Then there is also the notion that as these two below descriptions are not printed in any book, then they may not be entirely accurate. If anyone has the original cassette(s) where Baba discusses these below approaches then they are requested to write this network immediately.
AVARTA KIIRTAN
1. I am the embodiment of sincerity. 2. I have the innate love for Paramapurusa. 3. I have purify my mind with the fire of devotion. 4. I am overcoming all internal and external obstacles. 5. O lord, take me onto your lap. 6. I surrender my everything to you.
KAOSHIKII
VERTICAL --I am now trying to establish a link with Paramapurusa. RIGHT-- I know the right way of making request to you, Paramapurus'a. LEFT--- I know how to carry out your command FRONT-- I know how to surrender completely to you. BACK-- I am ready to undergo discomfort when trouble comes. STEPS---Oh, lord, I am now imitating your rhythm, brining your subtle Consciouness into manifestation, into pratical forms. OVERALL IDEATION:- I, the microcosm, am establishing a link with my lord, the Nucleus of the Macrocosm.
Note 3: SIMPLE DEVOTIONAL APPROACH
Some bhaktas may just prefer to sing kiirtan and dance kaoshikii with their mind immersed in Him-- to serve, please, and love Him. Trying to follow all the above technical operations may verily take the mind away from being with Baba. So adopting a purely devotional stance is also alright if that is what you prefer. That freedom everyone has.

What's Your Name

Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2008 21:29:38 To: am-global@earthlink.net Subject: What's Your Name From: Jiivendra Baba "Sakal duya'r khule dile prabhu, va'ta'yan-pathe a'lo elo..." {P.S. 2429} Purport: Baba, by Your grace You have come and opened all the doors and windows, and from that a huge effulgence has started pouring in. From the eastern horizon the crimson dawn is visible. The darkness is fast fading away. Baba, in the past there was a domination of dogma and groupism all around. Countless superstitions and negative samskaras were dancing their naked dance. But now, with the presence of Your divine effulgence, in the blink of an eye those dogmas and negative things have disappeared. And the beings of darkness have dissolved into thin air. I do not know where they have gone-- just they disappeared. Baba, with Your love and discipline You are keeping everyone under Your divine shelter. O' Baba, You are caring for everyone...
== WHAT'S YOUR NAME ==
Namaskar, Language plays a tremendous in human life. It reflects the mental status of the general society and sends out signals all around. If a society is high then the language will be quite sentient whereas if the mind-set of the society is degenerated then that will also be reflected in the linguistic expression. It too will be degraded. And one subset of language is naming or names-- what we choose to call a particular person or object. This too correlates with the mental standard of the society. In AM where we live in a sentient, Baba-centered universe where all the names are Sanskrit based and reflect different aspects of the Supreme Entity. But as we know well, not all societies on this present day earth are like this-- rather our AM is unique.
NAMES IN SO-CALLED FIRST-WORLD NATIONS
For example, in so-called advanced society, these days generally human beings are not given names which have meaning. The name is given just based on what the guardians think superficially sounds good. And in that way they make the name. Such as Lucy, Howard, Barbie, etc. In the olden days, most of the names were based on the dogmatic figures in the Bible, but that tradition has basically been forgotten; or people use those names unknowingly. So it is surprising and lamentable that human beings have lost their value, and their name does not have any meaning. In our co-called advanced countries, this is quite common. If we think about it, in comparison to human beings, technical machines and components have a better status. Because at least the name that has been allotted to them carries some meaning. Such as the machine known as a photocopier. Then name 'photocopier' has a significant meaning and applies to the use of that machine. In contrast, generally the names of human beings-- whether the legal name or just the colloquial name-- mostly do not have any deeper sense or meaning. Just it namesake is for the sound alone. But no meaning. This is the way things are in the so-called developed world. Some cases have even come when a few persons raised the point that they wanted to change their name to certain numerical digits only-- like 42, 001, or anything they wish. Such cases may currently be under consideration in the court. This is an unfortunate state of affair when human existence has hardly any value. In materialistic society today, the existence is measured on the basis of money...a few coins. In Ananda Marga however, whatever name any sadhaka receives is related with Parama Purusa. And side by side all our practices, daily duties, and any type of do's and don'ts has a root verb meaning that reflects its deeper import. For this reason, Baba has introduced the system of giving names in Samskrta to all those getting initiated into Ananda Marga. Because the Samskrta name carries a deep meaning-- as we all know. So that's why all around the globe, the name of each and every Ananda Margis is in Samskrta.
SANSKRIT IS USED IN OUR DAILY LIFE
Following are a few common words which we use in daily life: sadhana, dharmacakra, solah sutra (16 points), shaoca mainju's'a', Dharma Maha Cakra, ja'grti, and so many other words. Which we are aware of and familiar with. The myth has been propagated that these are Bangla terms. But here this has nothing to do with Bangla. For example, just you take this term ja'grti. This meaning is "place of awakening". And so many words are commonly used in Indian languages, related with the same Samskrta root verb. i.e. "Ja'grata" means "Awake". And "ja'grti' means awakening. And when it is given as one name of a place, then it is 'place of awakening'.
SPECIALITY OF SANSKRIT
These following teachings of Baba highlight the unique beauty of the Sanskrit language. Baba says "Latin is the daughter of Vedic and so is Sam'skrta. If Sam'skrta is used human unity will be encouraged and human beings will move closer together. See how sweet the link is between Vedic, Sam'skrta and the other classical languages of the world? So you should encourage the study of Sam'skrta." (PNS-17) Baba says, "There is a very close relationship between Vedic and all other classical languages of the world. If Vedic is properly nourished and encouraged it will encourage the unity of the world and a cordial relationship amongst human beings will develop." (PNS-17) Namaskar, Jiivendra
Note 1: STANDARD OF PRESENT DAY MATERIALIST SOCIETY
These days in the materialistic societies, the status of human beings is very dry, low, and crude. Human beings are just becoming one mechanism. And the language reflects in that way. But in Ananda Marga, human beings are looked upon as being divine but the in this age of materialism people are reduced to objects of enjoyment, made into machines, or fallen into animal status.
Note 2: IT IS SANSKRTA NOT BANGLA
These words - ja'grata and ja'grti -- The original root verb is the same. In Indian languages, they use ja'g, ja'go, ja'gana'. Many such similar words are there, and in each case the meaning is the same -- "awake". And the origin and root is Samskrta. This very root verb "ja'g" is quite commonly used in Indian languages. There are so many words there which are coming from the same root verb. Words with this root are quite commonly used in our scriptures, which everybody has. These are Ananda Vacanamrtam, Subhasita Samgraha, and all the rest of Baba's discourses also. Here and there, so many slokas are there when these terms ja'grata or ja'grti have been used. Here is one sloka, which Baba uses in various discourses: Baba says, "Uttis't'hata ja'grata pra'pya bara'nnibodhata -- that is, "Arise, awake. Seek a competent teacher and start moving along the path of spirituality." (AV-5, p.1) And here is another sloka. In which Baba uses the expression ja'grata: Baba says, "Ja'gratsvapnasus'uptya'di caetanyam yad praka'shate; Tad Brahma'hamiti jina'tva' sarvavandhaeh pramucyate." "[The three states of wakefulness, dream and sleep are expressed by the Supreme Consciousness -- One who realizes that That is Brahma, is liberated from all bondages.]" "The mind has four states: ja'grata [wakefulness], svapna [dream], sus'upti [sleep], and turiiya [merger in Cosmic Consciousness]. Of these four, the first three are expressed due to the wish of Parama Purus'a. When the unit mind, in its unbounded love for God, merges its individual feeling of existence, all its sweet vibrations, all its rhythmic ideations, in the eternal bliss, in the Supreme Entity, and arrives, temporarily or permanently, at a state of mind without any sam'kalpa or vikalpa, this state of highest wisdom, the state of union with Supreme Cognition, is the state of turiiya. The state of turiiya is the state of eternal bliss, and thus it has no external expression." (NSS, '95 ed., p.230)
****************************************** Really God's Favourite?
Baba says, "There are many philosophies which tend to crudify the human mind, and make people violent and inconsiderate. They make people believe that they are God's favourite children, whereas the rest of humanity are cursed. Although these views have philosophical sanction, they do not have the sanction of the A'tman (soul)...Intellectually such people are certainly slaves, and in the material world also they are slaves." (PNS-18, p.15) Note: This psychic disease is present in fundamentalist Jews, fundamentalist Christians, and fundamentalist Muslims etc. All are bad and guilty of this point; but especially the fundamentalist Jews & Muslims. They feel very negatively towards those who do not belong to their dogmatic beliefs. Muslims brand others as Quafir (demons) and Jews label non-Jews in their own derogatory language. Thus according to Baba the status of those fundamentalist Jews & Muslims is like slaves-- intellectually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. For more about this read Baba's discourse, 'The Continuous Effort to Promote Universal Well-Being-- Part 1'.

Must Not Fall Prey To...

From: "Will Chaucey" To: am-global@earthlink.net Subject: Must Not Fall Prey To... Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2008 23:11:48 Baba "Toma're khunjechi tiirthe marute...bujechi rayecho manete." (P.S. 2203) Purport: Oh Lord, because of my blindness in the past I was searching You in various tiirthas, religious places, and in the caves of treacherous mountains-- but unfortunately I could not get satisfaction anywhere. In return I only got frustration, pain and agony. And You remained still further. In this way I wasted so much time and money and invited frustration. I did not understand that You are very close and intimate to one and all. So in my ignorance I was searching You in various places. This was my blunder. Baba, by Your grace today samvit* has come in my mind. Now my eyes are open. By Your grace, I realised that You are remaining and smiling always in my heart, in my mind...
== MUST NOT FALL PREY TO WESTERN THINGS ==
Namaskar, Every place on this globe, nay in this universe, is our homeland. From west to east, and north to south, all are our very own brothers and sisters. Every region is part of our home territory. We care about everyone and all places. Today, however, a desperate cry is needed to warn margiis and non-margiis alike from falling into western ways of living-- modern pseudo-culture. Although the US is suffering from a flailing economy and a poor international reputation on political stage, American pseudo-culture is tops in all respects. People think it is great, modern, & fantastic. That is why, by & large, the entire eastern world and so-called developing nations are running headlong after American-Euro (or Euro-American) fashion and lifestyle-- which ultimately causes a severe cultural inferiority complex, exploitation, as well as degradation of mind. Of course everyone is aware about all of this, but even then it is not easy to stop. It is like standing beneath a mudslide. You know it is coming but even then it is difficult to escape. The only way out is more and more awareness and vigilance.
WESTERN PSEUDO-CULTURE SHOULD NOT BE EMULATED
Here is but a short list of Euro-American trends that are spreading like wildfire and these apply to both margiis and non-margiis. Tragically all these things cause various types of inferiority complexes, degradation, or both: (1) HANDSHAKE: Now everywhere the 'handshake' is in vogue. In India, no common citizen does namaskar anymore. Those business people and youths in India think that their cultural approach of doing namaskar is useless and they think to be 'modern' and 'proper' one must shake hands. And this is happening throughout Africa, SE Asia, and so many lands. All of which causes an inferiority complex where people are embarrassed by their own culture's habits and customs. The handshake also leads to the spread of germs and diseases, and for sadhakas it causes degeneration of mind as they will lose some of their prana or shakti by that type of crude touching habit. Lastly, a handshake has no spiritual significance. For all of the reasons and more Baba has strictly forbidden us from shaking hands. Baba says, "Do not shake hands with anyone, because it is unhygienic." (CC-1, 'Methods of Salutations') Unfortunately, while most margiis use the namaskar greeting with one another, many also engage in shaking hands with the general public. This should be curtailed and stopped. It may seem awkward or it may seem weird, but as soon as one establishes oneself in this habit, it will be very easy to maintain and most sentient. One way to manage is when greeting or walking towards someone then stop a few feet away from them and bring one's hands (palms) to their heart, or do the complete namaskar mudra. (2) ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Just as the above point of shaking hands applies to margiis and non-margiis, similarly this one does as well. At present on this earth, the English languages is the vishva bhasa, or world language. So everyone has a need to learn it-- BUT not at the expense of one's own mother tongue. One's own language should not be then regarded as shameful or outdated. In one's own house or office or familial relations, one's mother tongue should be used. Unfortunately, many villagers feel embarrassed by their local language and instead feel it should be buried and gone forever. We must never allow such a syndrome to occur, yet right now this crude reality is shaking our Marga throughout the Indian sub-continent. Others can tell whether this is happening in other countries or not. (3) WESTERN DANCE AND DRESS: This is happening in multiple ways. Gone are the traditional ways of dress in business meetings-- now only a tie and jacket or the western suit is good enough. That is one end of the spectrum. On the other side, revealing, erotic, and narcissistic dress of the US is fast spreading around the globe. No doubt, some countries like France have had a history of risque dress, but now in so many eastern lands, the young girls etc are dressing like western Hollywood divas. And it gets worse each and every day from revealing tops to scanty bottoms etc. So much so that in the state of Louisiana (USA), a Congressman recently tried to make such dress illegal, but his plea was rejected. Unfortunately, the US has successfully exported this crude image all over the world. (4) FAST FOOD: Now the US is no longer the only nation that is home to clogged arteries. With the spread of fast food and prepared meals and the like, these bad food habits are everywhere. Even people in countries like India, Vietnam, and the Philippines are losing not only the skill but the desire to prepare their traditional foods. Because fast food is seen to be modern and great. (5) AMERICANA TV & VIDEO: Now there is a Hollywood in each and every country, either creating their own American style films or simply rebroadcasting US television.
MUST NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP
As Ananda Margiis we must be strict to maintain our AM culture which Baba has given. Modern pseudo-culture is a fast spreading disease that is like the plague or even worse. It rots a person from the inside out. One loses their soul and degrades their body by these ways. So no one should think that 'everything from the west' is modern and great-- it is not like that. Unfortunately, by copying western ways often one is just inviting more problems into their life. Because as soon as one feels inferior about their own culture then they are prime targets for exploitation. And on the top those western pseudo-culture things are degrading. About this whole topic, voluminous essays can be written: the theories, the exploitation, the loss of culture, the degradation of humanity. But that you all know already. So the above is just a reminder of about the specific presentations of pseudo-culture that is now eating away at our human society. We should not fall prey to such things.
BABA'S BLESSING
By Baba's grace, He has given us strong guidelines and all the needed life practices to keep us safeguarded from pseudo-culture. If we adhere to 16 points we will not only be able to save ourselves but the whole humanity as well. Baba says, "If one’s spine is shattered, it is impossible to hold one’s head erect. Can those whose necks and backs are crushed under the weight of pseudo-culture, be expected to hold their heads high in any sphere of life? Hence it is the bounden duty of every rational person to save innocent people from pseudo-culture." (NH-LOI) Namaskar, Vinay
****************************************** Sadhana Point: Steps For Better Sadhana
Baba says, "Moksa karanasamagryam bhaktireva gariyasii." Meaning: "Bhakti is the best way to moksa or salvation, the approach of bhakti is the best." (AV, part 6) Following is the sequence for better sadhana practice: (a) Half bath or full bath (b) Left nostril open (c) Shasha'unga'sana (hare pose): a few rounds (d) Shavasana (corpse posture): briefly (e) Sing Prabhat Samgiita (f) Sing Kiirtan loudly and dance Lalita Marmika (g) Sastaunga Pranam (h) Bhutashuddhi (i) Asanashuddhi (j) Cittashuddhi (k) Generate longing or devotion for Parama Purusa / Baba; (Note: this is the last phase of cittashuddhi.) (l) Repetition of mantra with meaning, longing & devotion to become one with Parama Purusa / Baba. (Note: This point is applied in first and 6th lesson equally.) (m) Other various lessons (n) Guru Puja (o) Final sastaunga pranam Note 1: Regarding points (e) and (f), only listening to Prabhat Samgiita or kiirtan is not sufficient as that will not bring about the desired result. Rather one should sing Kiirtan & Prabhat Samgiita with their full heart.Because by singing the mind gets more involved in comparison to justlistening. Note 2: Generating devotional longing is a highly significant aspect. It is the most important step of our sadhana. If one does everything but this point is lacking then sadhana will be futile or dry. And if the arousal of devotion is done successfully then one can reach one's goal without any delay. It has been made known by various acaryas that this point is in acarya diary.

Misinformation in our Official Book

Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2008 23:12:26 +0530 To: am-global@earthlink.net Subject: Misinformation in our Official Book From: Manomohan Sanyal Baba "Toma're ke cinite pa're balo..." (P.S. 782) Purport: Baba tell me, who can recognise You. It is not easy to recognise You. You go on moving on Your own path of forward movement. You do not care about any obstacles or hindrances. You always remain with everyone, side by side, individually and collectively through Your ota and prota yoga (individual tactuality and collective tactuality).* You are with everyone; You never hate anyone. To encourage and inspire one and all to do good deeds, You fill their minds with benevolent thoughts and You give them strength to go on doing great work. Baba, Your divine play is unparalleled, & unfathomable also. Everything is Your expression and in that way You are always present. In the scorching heat of the summer sun's hot wind and also in the cold breeze of ice-covered mountains-- everywhere You are. In the deep, dark, depths at the bottom of the ocean and at the same time in the raging heat of the mirage in the desert, everywhere You are dancing and everything is Your expression. In the burning heat of the desert You provide the soothing shade of the tree, and You pour nectar in everyone's heart. You saturate the human heart with the divine nectar. Baba Your ways are infinite. Your liila is beyond comparison... * In Gwalior DMC in 1984 Baba told the meaning in English of ota and prota yoga-- "individual tactuality and collective tactuality".
== MISINFORMATION IN OUR OFFICIAL BOOK ==
Namaskar, We have all come across certain books which provide us with a distinct glimpse or insight into a particular area of life. With their composed form and expert guidelines, such texts, or reference materials, grant us a deeper look, greater breadth, and a unique angle. Certainly the "A'nanda Ma'rga Dictionary" (2005) aimed to be such a tool. How far it has achieved this however is for everyone to decide. Here following are some key terms that can serve as a measuring rod in this regard.
BABA'S SPECIAL DEFINITION OF SANSKRIT (SAM'SKRTA)
Each and every Ananda Margii has experienced to some or more degree the unique and special role that the Sanskrit language has. Indeed Baba has described and outlined the important use of Sanskrit-- both now and in the future. Indeed without any doubt, Baba has ceremoniously told how Sam'skrta has a distinct purpose and use in the present-day world and beyond. Baba says, "India is one and indivisible...Let Sam'skrta be the national language, as this will provide equal opportunity to all." (PNS-17) Thus according to Baba, Sam'skrta is a "live" language-- a language that carries special utility.
GURU'S DEFINITION IS TOP-MOST
And being the Sadguru and Founder of AM, Baba's opinion is the Ananda Marga perspective of the term. His description is the defining point; it is the true Ananda Marga definition-- period. And by looking around we can easily find numerous examples in our Ananda Marga way of life as well as in Baba's discourses that all point to the deep significance and use of Sanskrit. Yet, for one reason or another, the editors of the new AM Dictionary go against Baba's guidelines and instead describe 'Samskrta' in a totally different way-- as if Sanskrit is a thing of the past. Because in their reference publication the editors & "experts" involved with the AM Dictionary have basically defined Sanskrit as being a dead language (p.115).
SANSKRIT'S GREAT USE IN THE PRESENT DAY WORLD
Why or how those editors did like this we should think, but here is further proof of Samskrta's clear-cut importance and use in the world. (A) Baba has given approximately 10,000 pages worth of discourses solely dedicated to the technical aspects and innuendos of Sanskrit grammar. These writings are captured in the various books and series: Varna Vijiana, Varna Vicitra, Laghu Nirukta, Shabda Cayanika, P.R. Sarkar Grammar & more. And when as the Dharma Guru His each and every word carries special significance for the growth and development of the society, then how can anyone lay claim that Sanskrit is a dead language when Baba Himself devotes thousands of pages of material on Sanskrit. (B) Baba has appointed Sanskrit as one of the mandatory languages to be studied in our acarya / WT training centres. So Baba has included the Sanskrit language as required learning for guiding the society. It is an integral part of developing human understanding and spiritual knowledge. (C) Plus in our Marga, each and every activity in life from morning till night is characterized by Sanskrit terminology. From paincajanya to dharmacakra, from kiirtan to sadhana, from satsaunga to svadhyaya to samyak ajiiva, our each and every motion in life is beautifully named and described in the Sanskrit language-- including all our mantras also. (D) And of course in each and every Ananda Margii has given up their worldly or laokik names and instead been given a name from the Sanskrit language. Indeed we need not look any further than how we call one another as proof of the vibrancy of the Sanskrit language in the present-day world. (E) In addition in India and around the globe there are thousands of Sanskrit universities and colleges where they speak exclusively in Sanskrit. (F) Even worldly dictionaries highlight and define Sanskrit as still being in use. So it is unfortunate that the recently created AM Dictionary defined Sanskrit as 'a thing of the past'.
SOME LANGUAGES HAVE DIED-- BUT NOT SANSKRIT
(G) Surely enough there are innumerable languages which have died away from this earth such as Pra'krta, Vedic, and Pali, etc. Baba says, "One thousand years after its birth, Magadhii Pra'krta also died a natural death." However Sanskrit is not one of those expired languages. Rather it is commonly known-- and growing. Baba says, "I am using Sam'skrta slokas and not Pa'li because Pa'li may not be intelligible to you. Sam'skrta is better understood. That is why I am using Sam'skrta slokas." (Prout 10)
BABA'S UNIQUE DIRECTIVES ABOUT SANSKRIT
(H) And here are more of Baba's famous teachings on the grand utility and beauty of Sanskrit. Baba says "If Sam'skrta is used human unity will be encouraged and human beings will move closer together... So you should encourage the study of Sam'skrta." (PNS-17) Baba says, "At the time of initiation or shortly afterwards, those who do not have a Sanskrit name should be given one by the A'carya." (CC I, p.6, 1995 Ed.) Baba says, "The Sanskrit name should be used in all worldly dealings." (CC I p. 7, 1995 Ed.) Baba says, "India is one and indivisible...Let Sam'skrta be the national language, as this will provide equal opportunity to all." (PNS-17) By His above guidelines, it is crystal clear that Baba directs us that we are to use and propagate Sanskrit more and more; but those "experts" behind the AM Dictionary are directly or indirectly discouraging it-- by that way they are only ruining their own credibility. Because which margii will pay heed to the way these editors are making their dictionary.
SANSKRIT NOT THE ONLY CASE
Unfortunately not just Sanskrit, but the editors have ill-defined or poorly defined various other key terms in AM life such as Vrinda'van (p.147), prakrtaliina (p.96), vivaha (p.147) etc, as well as included some terms and names which just do not belong such as Ac. Shraddhananda Avt, (p.8) etc. For instance, the editors dogmatically define Vrindavan as "an important pilgrimmage spot for the Hindus" when Baba uniquely guides us that Vrindavan is that 'special devotional place in the devotee's heart.' (NKS) In a separate example, there is the term Prakrtaliina which Baba describes as follows. Baba says, "Those who wrongly worship Parama Purus'a in the form of clay, iron or other material substances, are ultimately transformed into prakrtiliina." (YP, p.79) By this definition it is quite clear that prakrtaliina is a type of negative microvita. Yet in the AM Dictionary the editors wrongly define prakrtaliina as "positive microvita". Thus like swapping over day to night, the editors mix up nearly every word-- overturning common and basic terms from our Ananda Marga way of life. Tragically, those Dictionary writers make more mistakes on nearly every page, thus how can I include them all here. Some further are noted below.
REFLECTION & RECTIFICATION
The culminating idea is that Baba has beautifully provided us with new terms and definitions by which to spiritualize and revolutionize the entire society. He has given us the all the tools to propel the society in the a positive direction. So any dictionary of AM terms properly should carry the spirit and accuracy of Baba's use of words. Unfortunately those inventors of the first AM Dictionary could not properly hold up the AM Banner. So those black spots should be corrected and / or others who are more up to the task should be given opportunity to be part of the next edition of the AM Dictionary. Because those with shallow knowledge always create problems.
BABA'S BLESSING
By His grace and through the proper understanding of Baba's teachings we are sure create that great human society. Baba says, "Build an ideal human society based on dharma. Let this be the sole mission in your life." (NKS '81 Edn, p.155) Namaskar, Manomohan
Note 1: ABOUT THOSE INVOLVED
Who knows who has really written this AM Dictionary. Although Shambhushivanandaji is listed & treated a key figure in all of this, I do not believe he really could have done such a thing. So although Shambhushivanandaji name is printed there who knows how far it is true because these days articles are regularly written by one person yet someone else's name is listed in the "by" line etc. Because to make their bosses happy writers have to list the names of their supervisors as being the main people. In this way when everything is proper, the bosses get all the name and fame but when something is negative then those same bosses should also be ready to face other remarks. Anyway, whatever the trend, I still do not believe that Shambhushivanandaji was involved in such publication. Because being a Gurukul chief, how can it be that he does not know the simple and basic truth about many points related with our AM ideology. So surely other people are involved and they just stuck his name there. But those others who are involved and whose names are listed are so insignificant then what can be said about them. Overall this book will mislead innocent readers whereas those who are more experienced and alert have already thrown this book away in the garbage.
Note 2: PRECISION NEEDED
It is well known and commonly accepted that any proper Grammar book dictionary should be pristine, clear, conclusive, and flawless. That is why Baba has given utmost importance of purity and sanctity to our scriptures. Because of the wrong interpretations of their scripture Buddhism got divided. On that point we are fortunate because up till now at least on ideological points even various narrow and dogmatic groupist people do not have a difference of opinion about Ista & Adarsha. All have faith. Because Baba has given everything in a clear and conclusive manner. But if we allow this trend of publishing negative books then the situation will not be in favour.
Note 3: HOW THEY PUT SHRADDHANANDAJI IN THE DICTIONARY
Ac Shraddhananda Avt.- the one who diverts all his energies towards the ultimate truth is filled with bliss... (p. 8)
By seeing this type of definition then all sorts of things strike in the mind. First point being that everybody knows that Shraddhanandaji himself stopped following Sixteen Points when he took over the top chair. Means since 1990 Shraddhanandaji is (a) not singing kiirtan, (b) not doing guru puja, (c) not singing Prabhat Samgiita, (d) not attending dharmacakra, (e) not attending paincajanya, and (f) not raising the Jai slogan for Baba. Plus he started watching all sorts of crude TV programs and he kept himself aloof from the margiis. Like this in so many regards he was off the mark entirely-- not following Baba's guidelines of 16 Points and Bhagavata Dharma. Thus who can believe that by this way they have included and defined Shraddhanandaji in the AM Dictionary. This may have pleased Rudranandaji but it has not done anything good done for the society. By this way people think that the editors are worthless. By seeing them licking the feet of Rudranandaji, other fanatic H group people might get some temporary happiness and the person who wrote this will save their post. But in the readers' minds it will create a very ugly impression; and on the point of dharma this is just gross sinful deed. B group was more crafty but now margiis have condor eyes on them that is why B group factional leaders have become alert-- to some degree. But here in the case of the Dictionary something different is going on that is why I have brought the point to the notice of my AM family members.
*************************************** If We Follow
Baba says, "You must continue doing good to society, and at the same time must fight against the bad...On the path of dharma, one is not only to do noble deeds; one must also fight against the dishonest people both are virtuous actions. There are many good people in the society - noble people engaged in noble deeds - who are not ready to fight against wrongs and injustices. This sort of passive benevolence does not really promote the cause of human progress in the world. What is desirable is to acquire virtue by doing noble deeds and fighting against all sins and crimes. Both are mandatory, both an integral part of dharma." (AV-8, p. 50-51) Note: If we follow Baba's above mandate our organisation will be free from all kinds of negativity. Stagnant minded people will not get the opportunity to pollute Baba's ideology by imposing their dogma.

All Should Know

From: "Marc Pele" To: am-global@earthlink.net Subject: All Should Know Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2008 22:05:18 +0000 Baba "Kenoi va' ele, dola' diye gele, na' bale gele cale, phele a'ma'y..." (PS 1995) Purport: Baba, You have been gone so long, why did You come and stir my heart only to then go away without saying a word-- thereby leaving me all alone. Baba, neither do You have any love for me nor do You understand the aching pain of my heart. Baba, after coming and reciting one fairy tale, where did You go. Baba, I want You to remain here with me. Baba, amongst all the dear ones, You are my dearmost. Why then do You not reside eternally in my heart. Baba, You are my dearmost and innermost, then how can You justify going so far away from me. Is it proper to leave me isolated and all alone. Please tell me. Baba, You are so dear to me, no matter what I will never forget You; Baba, I will never leave You. Not at any cost will I ever wipe You away from my mental plate-- from the memories of my mind. That I will never do. Baba, even if You do not desire to remain with me-- even if You want to hide-- I shall always keep You in the golden casket of my heart. Baba, You are eternally mine; my everything is surrendered at Your lotus feet...
== ALL SHOULD KNOW ==
Namaskar, Here below is one important issue that is related with the welfare of the entire society. The topic at hand revolves around the various phases of life and in particular the potential challenges of mid-life issues. By being aware of the ins and outs then we can not only internalise points related with our own lives but also be prepared to guide others as well.
KNOWING AHEAD OF TIME IS BETTER
If we are aware about the aforesaid issue-- which revolves around human sexuality-- earlier, then we can better prevent any mishap. Because... When any threatening situation happens in an unannounced way, then people are more scared and they do not know what to do. But when they are fore-warned and made aware that an incident it is going to happen, then with their know-how and talent and by various other ways they find some solution how to solve the problem. It is just like if suddenly an air attacks happens then the common people become more scared and mayhem results. But if told ahead of time about the air strike then they will manage far, far better. Or if one cyclone bursts out all of a sudden then more people get injured than if all were warned ahead of time that a cyclone is going to come. The point is that knowing the problem beforehand makes it more easy to solve that. So when we know that this problem of middle age crisis and psychic disease is going to affect people between the age of 45-55, if they are not pointedly focused in spiritual life, then this information should be shared with one and all. Because if others are alerted about this then they can properly face & overcome the situation and it can properly be resolved in their life. Thus it is in this spirit of prevention that this discussion has been raised in this whole entire email message. To bring awareness to the matter. People should know and write their own experiences and opinions and ways to solve this matter. And we should also remember that according to Baba's teaching, the answer of all problems exists within Parama Purusa. So if one surrenders at His alter, then any problem can easily be solved.
EBBS AND FLOW OF HUMAN EXISTENCE FREEDOM IN HUMAN LIFE
Human life is full of ups and downs. And in the life of sadhakas the exhaustion of samskaras happens quickly in comparison to non-margiis. For this reason negative and positive experiences come and go in quick succession. Sometimes mountainous problems come and at other times life is smooth and easy. In comparison to animals, human beings have a lot of freedom. But that freedom is of a certain dominion; it has certain limitations. For example suppose one animal is tied up with a rope that is 50 feet in length and one end is securely rooted in the ground. Then within that parameter of 50 feet the animal can move freely, eat grass, and basically do whatever it likes. The sense is that it is free up to that extent-- up to the length of that 50 foot rope. But beyond that it cannot go. Similar is the case of human beings. Although it looks like human beings are entirely free to do whatever they like, but in reality it is not like that. So many things human beings plan and dream, but all do not get to come to fruition. Problems can come anytime and disturb and interrupt their planning. And top of all, no human being can avert their own death. Nobody likes to think about their own death; but death will come to everyone. Nobody has control over that. So in some ways human beings have freedom and in other ways not. It is tied up and the bound with the serpentine noose of the Cosmic Operative Principle, Maya.
INBORN INSTINCTS
We see that when children are small then only their inborn instincts function. That means for infants they are guided purely by instinct and that is reflected in their actions. That is why just after birth they know how to suck the mothers milk. And when they grow up then, according to their maturity, other types of glands start functioning. And at the time of adolescence people's sex glands also develop. And the sexual urge tries to pull them in a particular direction. But when that same person was an infant then that instinct was in its dormant stage. So the young child had no problem from that side. This then is one example how according to age, various glands and sub-glands start functioning. And it also happens that after a certain age those glands and their correlating instincts gradually become defunct.
THE WAYS OF PRAKRTI
So when nature orders for the sex instinct to develop, then the desire of procreation comes in the mind. This is one way of functioning of that creative principle (prakrti), which has bound up this entire universe.
'Pra karoti yah sah prakrti'
Prakrti creates various colorful things. That is why its name is 'creative principle'. We see that in animals and plants and in all kinds of creatures on this earth, this procreation system has been going on and on since millions of years. So the old are moving towards death and simultaneously side by side new babies are born. It is the same story in each and every aspect of creation. So changes are always going on, always people are passing from one stage to the next. In human life one of the most delicate times is during adolescence. Because when the sex instincts come to function then the cosmic operative principle inspires that being to create more and more. And in this way it maintains this cosmic cycle of creation, or srsti. And as human beings grow older then this instinct of procreation gets controlled to some degree. But in human life, in addition to the period of adolescence, there is a second time when the sexual urge again starts dominating, and that happens when humans are going to lose their capacity-- during the 'mid-life crisis'. The reason behind this is that the creative principle wants to create more and more. And wants to ensure that it gets maximum output from each and every created being. So it infuses the idea in the mind of those human beings who are on the verge of losing their sexual capacity that they should produce more before they lose their capacity entirely. This stage is like one master who has many slaves but if he knows that soon one of the slaves will be set free then the master will try to utilise that slave more and more and get maximum output from him before he gets freedom. The solution is that if one follows spiritual life then the mind will be serene & positive then the ghastly effect of sex will not be problematic for that sadhaka. Whereas those not leading devotional life or Margii life then they get caught up in the noose of maya and they do many nonsense things. The whole point is that Maya wants to keep the jiivas in her control. That is why Baba says that there is no other way than to get rid from maya, other than surrendering to Parama Purusa. This maya is insurmountable:
'Daevihyes'a' gun'amayii mama ma'ya' du'ratyaya' Ma'meva ye prapadyante ma'ya'meta'm' tarantite'
Meaning: "My Divine Maya, the Supreme Maya or the Cosmic Force is comprised of three attributes. Ordinarily it is very difficult to transgress it but only those who merge themselves in Me or take refuge in Me can transcend Prakrti." (BABA)
SPECIAL DECLARATION
Here following Baba is making one special declaration. Baba says, "Metamorphosis is taking place not only in the realm of physicality but also in the realm of psychic structure. Changes are fast coming in the psychic arena and in all the realms of human expression. They are not only coming, they have just come. We have crossed the threshold of a new era." (PNS-17, p.56) Namaskar, Mahendra Now please read these notes below. They all are connected with this middle age syndrome. Such as who experiences it, how margiis manage the situation, and what is the stand of AM on this point. All this and more are talked about in the notes below. Everyone should also express their own opinions on this important issue.
Note 1: WHEN, WHO, & HOW
It is the common phenomenon viewed all around that sex oriented problems mostly come to those non-sadhakas during two critical phases in the life: during puberty and in mid-life when people are around 50 years of age. In those communities where humans beings are more extroverted they get seriously affected by this psychic disease. Just like we see in adolescence that many become uncontrollable but then later on after that age passes they become alright. But those who are spiritually minded and focused in sadhana do not undergo these difficulties, not even in adolescence. But in general people know that this is the problem of that difficult age of adolescence when that particular instinct just appeared in that person's life. And everyone also understand that this problem is going to get solved in some or more degree. And such a similar problem also comes between the age of 45-55, more so in males and very seldom in females. In persons of that age the sex glands become more active. The worst case happens when someone has lived their whole life in a crude way then when that male reaches the age of 45 or so, the they become more crude, uncontrollable. That is why we see that even when people have superficially ok marital relations with their spouse, even then those relations get ruined. And they get divorced because the husband gets completely infatuated with another member of opposite sex. That is the main problem which occurs. And then in some few cases the wife may sometimes fall-- but usually not, or at least less so. So when these types of things happen, in that case everything gets ruined: their family, their marriage, their children, it all gets ruined. Those involved in pointed spiritual life do not suffer from these things. Otherwise lackadaisical sadhakas and especially non-margiis experience a lot of problems. No doubt the vast majority of our western / European society is more extroverted in comparison to many of the so-called 3rd world countries. So naturally then they face it more If however one is pointed in sadhana then they will be alright. But otherwise those living in extroverted communities or if one has that desire then this problem of uncontrolled sexuality is more commonly seen-- indeed so many people are affected in this way. It is very, very common in non-margiis but also not uncommon in our Marga. But again if one is truly dedicated to their spiritual practices then they do not face any problem or difficulty. For them life remains serene and blissful. So although all this is more common in the west, actually the seeds of this problem are everywhere-- in each and every corner of the globe. Because wherever human beings are living they are controlled and bound by that Cosmic Operative Principle and their mind functions in that same direction, everywhere. All, everybody's mind. Even then it is more common in our western countries primarily because the accepted standard is different than in the Indian sub-continent etc. For example in India people cannot have partners or friends of the opposite sex etc, but in our western countries it is quite acceptable to have such types of friends and/or sexual partners. Furthermore because our so-called third world countries and in many other states social pressure is there, that is why such cases did not burst out. They got controlled in their own way through social rules, regulations, and norms. So even if people wanted to do they did not. So, of course, the main way to permanently overcome this problem is to charge the mind with the divine balm of spirituality. Because when the mind is goaded to Parama Purusa then surrender comes and in that state all problems are easily solved. That is why we see that in spiritual persons this problem is negligible-- zero. Whereas in crude persons it is rampant. However the colorful panorama of such nonsense is quite evident in our western society where you will see a wealthy 80 year-old man moving around with and an 18-year-old film heroine. And this is getting more common where even in that age on his death-bed they involve in all sorts of crude behavior and one offshoot is that they produce children also. In our western society this is not looked upon as a bad thing; but in our Indian society it is looked upon as being very bad. For this reason it is invisible in India and more visible in the west. So if social acceptance is there such that people get praise and prestige by these negative ways, then these cases of degeneration happen more-and vice-versa. In our Ananda Marg, however, such type of behavior has no place. The power of procreation is only for producing children and not for lust and crude enjoyment. And when a husband and wife do create babies then their duty is to maintain, nourish, and provide all sorts of arrangements for that child up to higher education. But if on their death bed-- at the age of 80 or 90 years-- anybody is involving in crude behaviour and producing children, then how in future will they be able to care for the welfare of that baby. Never they cannot. And in the case of those marriage break-ups which occur in mid-life. The worst effect of all this happens when the young children get alienated from their families because their fathers leave because he got attached with a new young female. Then tragically, the children become sentimentally affected or fatherless or get treated just like one football. Sometimes living with the father and sometimes living with their mother. So everything becomes chaotic and disastrous. And the worst effect happens upon our impressionable, growing children. Because in that tragic circumstance, the children do not get proper love and affection from the parents side. Because the father is involved in the lustful, dirty games. And in our western society, it is such a shameful thing that the children do not say that, 'he is my father'. Rather most often they say that, 'Mr So-and-so is my biological father'. This term or type of speech you will not hear in our Indian society. But it is quite common in our western society.
Note 2: MIND IS THE CAUSE...
Mind is the cause of bondage and that same mind is the cause of salvation.
'Man ayo manusa ma'n karnam....'
Mind is the cause of bondage and that same mind is the cause of liberation. If the mind is goaded towards Parama Purusa then it leads to salvation. And if the mind is goaded towards degenerative propensities then it becomes the cause of bondage. We know that human life is not for eating, drinking, and sleeping. Baba says "Human life is an ideological flow". We have come on this earth to do something great by following bhagavad dharma. Those who remember the Goal, they cannot lose the path.
Note 3: OUR DUTY
It is our duty to be aware about and inform others about these two critical periods of the life-- i.e. adolescence and middle age. So before then and while at that age, everybody-- those who are not pointed in their spiritual routine-- should be cautious. It is just like when you are climbing on the snowy mountain then you take all sorts of tools because you know that it is very slippery. Or if you are walking in the hot, sandy desert, then you will have to be prepared with something to cover your whole body, especially to cover your face from the dust. So having knowledge before-hand is very essential. That is why when in any city an air attack happens, then the city officials blow the siren to alert the citizens. Suppose you have to cross through the thorny path with your bare feet, then you will be very cautious. In contrast if you are walking inside your own room then you may not be that cautious. So when that delicate age is coming in anybody's life if they will remember or be made to remember that avidya maya is going to create more magic and the mind will be dragged towards negative direction easily, then they will be more alert. And the situation has a better chance to be controlled. So if one is going through that difficult age, then they should do auto-suggestion and ideate on Parama Purusa, then the problem will be completely solved. And to guide others, when we see anyone passing through adolescence or middle age, then we should guide them by giving them outer suggestion. The central idea is that when alertness is there and when spiritual feeling is inculcated, then with surrender this instinct problem can and will be minimized to zero. And this will happen with the grace of Parama Purusa.
Note 4: WILD DURING MATING SEASON
Everyone has surely seen how well-tamed dogs, horses, buffaloes, and cows-- all kinds of animals even those who are very obedient to masters, they become wild when their mating season comes. Their behaviour gets changed in a radically uncontrolled way. And those people who are around them become more alert to deal with them. So this happens with the captivation of sex instinct. The same dog which was obedient, that dog becomes uncontrollable in the mating season. In a similar way when human beings are captivated by sex, then they do all kinds of negative things. But no problem is bigger than the solution. So in the life of those sadhakas who are motivated towards spirituality, then such problems hardly arise. Everything is controlled. But those who are leading crude life, they indulge in and gratify their animal instincts in a very wild way-- breaking all boundaries of propriety and impropriety. And in result they become more strongly bound by avidya maya and then they get reborn as lower creatures who dominated by basic animal instincts. This is the unfortunate and sad plight of such persons.
Note 5: HUMAN MID-LIFE CRISIS
This common type of problem exists everywhere-- it knows no boundaries. And in our AM family there are two types of members: WT's and family margiis. And both are human beings and both have to follow the same path. So this problem of middle age crisis (45-55 yrs) can be seen in those who are not spiritually minded or focused in sadhana-- whether they be Wts or margiis. This is the unfortunate state of affairs. Some, by the grace of Parama Purusa, are able control this easily. And some fall down in the ditch and they feel shame and come out from the dirty land and clean their clothes and they never fall again. But there are still others who are of the worst quality. They may be WT or they may be margii but with such persons their infatuation with the opposite sex knows no bounds. They indulge in this psychic disease and crude lust as their hobby. And in this way they degenerate themselves down to the lower most level. Down to the most negative mental status of degeneration--- that is rasa'tal loka. Because all belong to my family so I do not feel comfortable writing anyone's name. I feel sympathy for everyone. After all patient is patient; it may be related with the physical disease or the psychic disease. All should be treated with compassion and heart-felt feeling. And it is everyone's duty to cure them.
Note 6: WHY COMMON CONCERN
The title of this letter is "all should know" because this whole entire issues involves our whole family. Because even if we are pointed in our sadhana and we are not affected by such things even then it remains our duty to guide and inform others about this situation. So for that reason we should be aware about all this. Because the society should be protected from this negative onslaught.
*********************************************** Deserts Needed
Baba says, "Ecologists claim that some deserts are essential for keeping the global ecology in a balanced state. The high day temperatures and the cold night temperatures that occur in desert regions create a useful effect. The hot, dry desert air rises and creates a vacuum which sucks in cool air, generating a chain reaction. Moist air is sucked in from the sea and formed into clouds which then rain on the land. If deserts vanish entirely, the overall rainfall will be reduced." (PNS-16, p.37)
