Baba

== BABA’S WAY OF STARTING ANANDA MARGA ==

~ Part 2 ~

Namaskar,
Here is the continuation of the previous post about the formation of Ananda Marga. The first part detailed how during those very early days in Jamalapur, Baba did all the initiations Himself. As the number of disciples grew, He introduced the system of family tattvikas and family acaryas. Then those tattvikas and acaryas taught sadhana to new people. And Baba Himself involved in countless other engagements.

That post also discussed how some, most notably family acarya Pratapaditya, mistakenly thought that the creation of Wts in AM was merely a temporary measure. Here is that first letter:

Now we pick up the account whereby family acaryas are working hard to keep pace with the rapid growth and spread of AM.

Gradually, in step-wise or even progressive fashion, the work of Ananda Marga multiplied. Family acaryas were convinced to take leave from their government offices and jobs; and, they were temporarily separated from their families in order to travel to far away places for pracar. Indeed they reached to all corners of India from Jammu Kashmir to Kannya Kumari and from Cachh to Nagaland. They covered just about everywhere – all places, all the district headquarters, etc. Plus so many meetings were organised – so many tattva sabhas.

The main program was the extensive pracar work going on those days. There was only one work — pracar, pracar, and pracar. There was no Prout work, no samaj work, and no other activity. In 1955 and 1956, there was only pracar: Making new margiis and getting them involved in sadhana and sending for them for PC at Jamalpur.

Then the next phase started. Family Acaryas were requested to go outside India. Some went and did huge work. Baba’s pressure was very focused on pracar work. So most of the family acaryas were taking leave and getting involved. Weeks after weeks. Pracar and pracar. That was the rhythm those days. At the same time, Baba graciously arranged a favourable vibration everywhere. So wherever acaryas went, they found people hungry to learn meditation and follow Ananda Marga. Effortlessly, acaryas initiated countless people. It was all due to Baba's cosmic grace.

HOW THEY WERE THINKING ABOUT MONKS

Prior to 1962, in Ananda Marga there was no sannyasi system. So a few family acaryas were thinking that AM does not appreciate monks. This was the thinking of some family acaryas in those early days. They were openly talking like this also.

They calculated that other religions and spiritual paths have monks, but in Ananda Marga it is not accepted. So they had a negative type of feeling towards the saffron cloth. Plus general margiis were giving high regard and respect to family acaryas.

So two things were involved here. One, family acaryas were getting high respect. Two, in the working style of AM up to that time, Baba had not yet created the system of wholetime workers, renunciates. So some family acaryas in their own way were thinking that the concept of sannyasis will not be accepted in AM in the future.

THE PRESSURE FOR WORK MOUNTS

In a methodical manner, the days passed with ever-increasing work demands. After several years when
Baba’s work pressure was so extreme, family acaryas were feeling a lot of stress to fulfill the targets. At one point, Baba gave the program to do pracar and programs in all blocks of the entire world: Where there is at least one Margii in each and every block.

By that time Baba was taking reports – and lovingly punishing and even beating His disciples with His own stick. This was exclusively His tantric grace. To the untrained eye it may have looked harsh. But behind, Baba had His cosmic plan. By beating and punishing sadhakas, He would cure their physical and psychic ailments. In His divine play of punishment, He purified their glands, cleaned their minds, and infused them with devotion and strong enthusiasm. In this way, He was gracing and purifying them - and devotees realised this as well. All their physical and psychic ailments were removed. After reporting they would do a lot of pracar. Outwardly it looked like punishment; but, those who received such punishment were charged with a strong spirit, a clear mind, and a disease-free body.

These days some people may think: Was there no other way to purify sadhakas than by beating them?

The answer is very simple. Baba's unique and special approach of "punishing" sadhakas kept unworthy people away from the scene; by this way, only those sincere sadhakas who really wanted to be cured, pure, and spiritually cleansed remained. And that is exactly what happened. By seeing His way of bestowing grace, many unworthy people became scared and ran away. Only the true sadhakas remained along with Baba. This was way He showered His grace upon His disciples and displayed His tantric liila.

WT’S ENTER ONTO THE SCENE

Anyway, the phase was starting to change – again. This is Baba’s liila. Baba was taking reporting and He scolded and abused a lot those days. That time, the out-turn was “very poor” from family acaryas. They were working hard, but Baba had given them huge expectations and targets to fill.

Then Baba suggested, “You people have become senior, have families, and hence cannot leave for AM work for several months at a time for pracara. Why not find youths who are unmarried, or anyone who can
give full-time commitment for this endeavour, and take work from them?”

By listening this suggestion from Baba, those family acaryas felt so much relief. They started searching for some youths.

In this course of action, from different parts of India, family acaryas sent many youths for PC at Jamalpur. And to make them into LFTs there was one training session. The year was 1962.

Things were going on very fast. Without any delay those LFT’s were getting their WT-ship.

This is just a glimpse of some of the long, rich history. From there the story goes on and on. Please everyone write in with their own remembrances & recollections.

Namaskar,
Shivadayal Deva

Note 1: WHY SOME FAMILY ACARYAS WERE FRUSTRATED AND FURIOUS

ABOUT THE CREATION OF WTS

In 1962, Baba created the Wt system. Margiis naturally began giving a lot of respect to wholetimers. Seeing this, some family tattvikas and acaryas felt jealous. Suddenly, the respect they were getting shifted towards these new wholetimers. For this reason they did not like the creation of Wts. They thought, "This new system of Wts is very bad because it has taken away our honour and respect."

That is the main reason why some family acaryas became hostile toward Wt’s.

We can understand then that this was nothing but the play of avidya maya. Due to the veil of darkness, i.e. avidya maya, certain family acaryas could not digest Baba's new component: Wts. That is why some family acaryas raised their agenda again and again that the Wt system whould be abolished. They gave the false justification that it is impractical. Amongst them all, family acarya Pratapaditya was a very vocal critic against the Wt system.

PRABHAT SAMGIITA

"Tiirthe tiirthe ghuriya' kla'nt hoye esechi dva're..."   (Prabhata Samgiita 4112)

Purport:

Baba, O' Divine Entity, after wandering around the globe in various holy lands in search of You, I am completely tired. In this exhausted state I have reached Your alter. Baba, be gracious, please do not turn Your face away; please do not become unhappy, angry, or furious with me. Please open the door and allow me to come inside.

Baba, look towards me; my whole body is completely tired and exhausted. My feet are full of dust. Wandering around in the sun, my whole body has become completely hot and sweaty. I am totally tired and exhausted.

O' Parama Purusa, O' Baba, now I feel in my heart and repent how my whole life has been wasted. I was tied up in the noose of dogma. Just I was performing various rituals, wandering in holy lands, moving from one tiirtha to another tiirtha, from one Baba's Quarter to another Baba's Quarter, in search of You. By Your grace, now I understand that You are residing in my heart - smiling.

Baba, I am surrendering to You. Please accept me as Yours. Do not leave me to wander from one dogmatic pilgrimage to another - involved in various rituals. The path which I was traveling was dark & full of hopelessness. I wasted a lot of money, time, and energy; nothing was gained. Now I am too tired. I want Your divine direction.

In spite of moving on the negative path, by Your grace in the garden of my mind some flowers have bloomed for You. I want to offer those flowers at Your lotus feet. The creepers of hope are swinging and the feeling is coming that You will allow me.

Bab, You have graciously given me the longing for You in my heart. Now please grace me by allowing me to come close to You and touch Your feet. Baba, I am Yours and You are mine. I am surrendering everything unto You. Please accept me...

Two Types of Wts

Baba

== TWO TYPES OF WTS ==

Namaskar,
We all know how important it is to have a strong cadre of Wts. This everyone in Ananda Marga values highly. And Baba has embedded the secret to this in His special guidelines and conduct rules.

In particular, Baba has graciously given this rule:

Baba says, "While observing the above rules (i.e. Avadhuta Conduct Rule #1 - #31), if any contravention of a rule occurs within a year from the start of the training, then the trainee shall have to undergo training for one more year from the day of the contravention of the rules." (Rule #32 of 32 Avadhuta Rules).

After reviewing this, a few Wts began wondering about the meaning of this. Because they see on a day-to-day level that some of our senior workers are not careful in following the given Wt codes of conduct. In that case a few workers think that although such rules exist, nobody follows them.

At the same time we all know that Baba's each and every guideline provides us the perfect manner to advance on the path and embody His teachings. Those who wish to become true Wts should view the aforementioned rule in the following manner.

                                    SELF-DISCIPLINE IS THE KEY

First off we have to be clear that Baba's conduct rules for Wts are a form of self-discipline. No one can possibly force anyone else to follow these rules. The desire must come from within. One must feel that, "Guru has given these rules for my welfare and by following this rule I will become a true avadhuta". This type of inner feeling is the key point.

For example here are a few of those rules:

"No relationship should exist with worldly family." (Rule no. 9)

"Avadhuta (WT) shall not touch food by a mean-minded person. He will also not take food in a hotel or a restaurant. Even sattvika food taken in a restaurant will be treated as tamasik." (Rule no. 20)

"Under no circumstances should the purity of the body and mind be polluted." (Rule no. 30)

And there are many more rules - all of which one should inculcate from within.

If one is thinking that I only need follow such rules when others are around then they will never be able to enjoy the sweetness and richness of Wt life. In that case such rules will only be seen as a headache and a burden - and ultimately such Wts will degrade and fall into problem or they will leave their Wt-ship entirely.

So again the key point is that the inspiration must come from within. If one feels that Baba has beautifully given all the do's and don'ts to live the life of a true sadhu / Wt, then one will readily embrace all the conduct rules. And indeed one will become a true wholetimer of Ananda Marga.

And it all starts from within - with inner inspiration and self-discipline. Without that one will not be able to follow.

                                      WHO IS BABA TALKING TO

Now that it is clear that these rules are codes of self-discipline, the next question is who is Baba addressing in this particular rule.

Baba says, "...The trainee shall have to undergo training for one year more from the day of the contravention of the rules."

Specifically here, Baba is addressing all those who yearn to be ideal workers. That includes those in WT training centers, brahamacaris / brahmacarinis, and any and all acaryas who are not yet avadhutas, as well as all avadhutas & avadhutikas etc. Why? Because truly speaking all are trainees until they get moksa.

All who have a sincere desire to live the life of a true WT, that is whom Baba is addressing. By incorporating those conduct rules into their mode of living and daily practice, such aspirants will easily manage the duties and responsibilities of avadhuta diiksa. They will easily adjust to avadhuta life and have their mind ready for kapalika sadhana and all related spiritual practices. And those who know and practice kapalika sadhana, then their meditation will be proper, otherwise they will not be able to concentrate.

Indeed, such persons will truly enjoy and savor every living moment as a WT and they will discharge their duties effortlessly while their mind remains ensconced in Him. That is the great benefit of strictly adhering to Baba's stated conduct rules. One's entire personality becomes one with their WT life. There is no question of any distraction nor any frustration.

That is why it is so critical for all those in training and all those in uniform to strictly adhere to Baba's above stated rule.

If one is unable to incorporate the WT conduct rules before becoming WT then they will certainly not be able to incorporate them upon becoming avadhuta. Or at the very least it will be extremely difficult.

But with the right effort one will get success. The entire application of those rules comes from an inner urge, not any imposed law etc. And what is that desire? To please Guru and manifest all Baba's given codes of conduct in all spheres of life. That is the only way to become mature as a worker. That inner desire is key.

So it is a self-contained program for success.

                                                THE OTHER OUTCOME

The other outcome is rather unfortunate. In this instance, various persons become Wts without ever incorporating those rules into their manner of living. In that case they will be living dangerously and inviting their downfall at any moment. Each and every day will be a sheer struggle.

On the one side they have all kinds of baser propensities and hidden desires that keep them from following Baba's stated guidelines. And on the other side, they are walking around in that uniform and will have to adhere to at least some of the rules on certain occasions, such as during reporting or when surrounded by margiis and other workers. One cannot cheat on the rules in those times. In that case those rules will be nothing more than a burden. If one does them in a half-baked manner or just for show or due to pressure of circumstance, then those rules just become a headache, not blissful.

Ultimately such type of fake Wts will suffer from mental anguish and leave their wtship, or they will continue to remain in their saffron dress yet indulge in all kinds of petty and nonsense behaviours. They will increase the numbers of fallen Wts.

Being a Wt is a way of life; and it is based on strictly adhering to Baba's stated conduct rules. That is why Baba has ordered that if one is not following the rules properly then they should extend their training one more year. So again this rule is for those preparing to become an avadhuta and as well as those already in WT dress who wish to be mature and ideal workers.

If one is already a Wt and not following the conduct rules, then they are bound to do something wrong. In which case they will harm themselves and those around them. It is essentially assumed that by the time one receives avadhuta diiksa, they are already well-grounded in these rules. That is the intention. At that point the rules are merely a reminder.

Whereas when one is aiming to become a mature Wt, that is the critical period to implement those points and develop right living practices.

Failing to follow those conduct rules will only make WT life a waste of time. It will be torture and torment for that so-called worker, and it will create scandals in the society.

APPLIES TO ALL PERSONS AND ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE

Once again, the operating factor here is that one have the requisite desire and discipline from within to follow Baba's divine rules. This is how one inculcates all those Wt rules.

This inner inspiration relates to each and every endeavour in life. Imposition from without will never drive a person to success. If one wants to an artist, a parent, a lawyer, a chef, a mechanic or anything in this world, the inspiration must come from within. Then one will easily be able to assess the situation and do the needful in order to get success.

Whenever anyone does anything due to external pressure alone then failure is certain. Because when that external pressure is in absentia one will proceed in a different direction.

So whether one's desire to become a Wt, or a student-athlete, or a businessman, the feeling and drive must be from within.

                                                    RECAP:

                            SECRET TO PROPER WT LIFE

In conclusion, we should all be aware that Baba's Wts rules are indeed meant to be followed. Those rules are the baseline for having a joyous and productive existence as an avadhuta. So everyone wishing to become a true Wt must cultivate the yearning and develop that inner urge, by His grace. Then one will be a grand asset to society.

Tragically, those walking around in saffron and skimping on those rules are nothing but fakes. They should stand naked in front of the mirror seriously consider their existence. Such introspection is needed. A life of hypocrisy is no life at all.

Best is to bring all those points within the domain of one's mind and lead an ideal life.

                                          FINAL SUMMARY

Amongst our Wt cadres there are two groups: Some who are real and some who are fake.

The fake people only follow the conduct rules in the presence of others - otherwise not. They think these conduct rules are a headache.

Real Wts follow these rules always - everywhere. They think, "It is my bounden duty to please Baba and that since Baba is everywhere then I should always follow His stated rules."

Fake Wts do not follow the conduct rules on a regular basis so when they are forced to follow, they do not enjoy as those rules are not their way of life; rather such rules are a burden. That is why they hate those rules.

In contrast, those who are ideal workers, their life becomes one with those rules. It becomes their nature. Their life is smooth and natural and they never veer from those rules - neither when alone nor with the collective. For them such codes of conduct are the golden rules. If someone says not to follow they will not appreciate that - rather they enjoy following.

Those who are fake Wts should start thinking that these rules are for their benefit and growth. They should give up their hypocrisy and try to follow the conduct rules strictly - whether alone or in the collective. They should ask for Baba's grace, and aim to be a real Wt. When Baba is gracious then and they will realise that these rules are not a burden but rather a meaningful tool for transforming themselves from animal life to human life to divine life.

I close with those follow teaching from Baba

Baba says, "Acárańát páthayati yah sah ácáryah – “One who teaches through one’s conduct is an ácárya.” If one’s conduct is not exemplary, he or she is not an ácárya/á." (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 23)

Namaskar,
Dinesh

"Lukiye tumi ka'j kare ja'o pratya'sha' kichu rekhe..."   (P.S. 2618)

Purport:

Baba, You are the Doer of all the work being done in this vast universe.
Secretly You go on doing and executing everything. Nobody can see You-- but
You are doing everything. And You do not harbour any desire to receive
anything in return. Just You are deeply involved in managing all the work
secretly, O' my Parama Purusa. And when You notice that somebody is
searching You, then that time You move ahead in Your grand liila of hide
and seek.   Baba, You decorate the effulgence in darkness; and simultaneously You
flood the cimmerian darkness with the showering of Your divine effulgence.
Baba, You are the bridge between life and death; You are the crossing
point. Yet all the while You Yourself remain hidden behind the scenes.
Baba, You are the great hope of the hopeless hearts. In the end of the
night You are the colourful dawn. Baba, You show the direction to those who
have lost the path. And You spread Your divine love in all the ten
directions.  Baba, You go on doing all the work of this entire universe secretly--
never desiring anything in return. Just You continue playing hide & seek.
Baba, Your liila is unfathomable...

                    Special Formula of Tandava

Baba says, "Tandava: As long as a dancer remains above the ground, he
derives much benefit; when he touches the ground, then those benefits are
assimilated by the body. That is why in the tandava dance there is much
jumping, because jumping requires the practitioner to remain off the ground
for a fairly long period of time." (NSS, p. 23)

Role of Family People in Ananda Marga

Baba

= ROLE OF FAMILY PEOPLE IN ANANDA MARGA ==

Note: An audio file - Role of Family People & Wts in Ananda Marga - has been uploaded to the AM-GLOBAL blogsite in association with this topic.

Namaskar,
The following paragraph is a summary of Baba's special teaching on the roles of both family people and wholetimers in our Ananda Marga.

Baba says, "What is the objective adjustment of sannyasis [AM Wts]? To help family people in their all-round development. And what is the subjective approach of the sannyasis? To do more sadhana [in comparison to ghriis]. Sannyasi means one should immerse oneself only in the thought and service of Parama Purusa. These two have to follow their duties. Sannyasis should follow their duties; and, family people should follow their duties. If you adopt this approach, you will be able to make one ideal human society. I see that the role of family people is very significant in Ananda Marga. There is a great need of LFT's. Because of their family responsibility those who cannot dedicate themselves fully can do part-time service and become LPT. In that case they should dedicate at least 5 minutes every day for service. Only engaging in subjective approach [one's own sadhana] or only  engaging in objective adjustment [one's own family life] is not good." (Summary of Baba's Teaching)

Note: Baba spoke the above originally in Bengali and the original audio file has been posted to the AM-GLOBAL blogsite.

IN AM FAMILY PEOPLE HAVE THEIR PLACE

AM society is comprised of both family people and sannyasis, i.e. Wts. And Baba has given a unique role for each to play. These roles are very revolutionary and unlike any of the dogmatic religions. In all of the religions, family people are basically 2nd class citizens. They have hardly any role at all. All the power is with the priest class. Family people just obey the orders of the clergy like sheep or slaves. Our Ananda Marga is totally different. In Ananda Marga, Baba has given family people their rightful place in the running of AM society.

                                       STUNG BY IMPOSED SAMSKARA

The question arises then, when family people have been given a distinct role in our AM way of life, why is it that family people always take a backseat to Wts in running the organisation.

Here is the reply.

In AM philosophy, Baba describes different kinds of samskaras, one of which is an imposed samskara. And it is that type of samskara that is hurting us right now. An imposed samskara is when we get indoctrinated into the dogmas and trends of the greater general society. That is what has happened in AM with regards to the relationship between Wts and family margiis.

Since almost all the religions suffering from priestocracy etc, that same dogma is in AM in most parts of the world. Neither does the priest class want to empower the family people, nor do family people feel comfortable having any role.

It is just like if you ask one so-called Harijan in the remote village to sit on an equal chair, then bound by their inferiority comples they will say that, "I am comfortable on the ground." Here below Baba further describes this type of mentality.

Baba says, "The headmaster of a Harijan school once asked a student to fetch him some drinking water, but the boy did not move. Instead he asked a non-Harijan friend in a low voice to do as the headmaster requested. But the headmaster intervened and asked the boy why he would not comply with the request. The student replied, “Sir, I am an untouchable by caste. How can you drink water touched by me?” This is an example of how repression can bring about a change in the psychic structure." (Prout Nutshell-17)

In a similar manner, some or most of the family people in our Marga suffer from the same type of inferiority complex as those hairjans. Family people feel unworthy of a proper role in AM. That is the dogma or imposed samskara that has been dragged into AM.

                                    BABA HAS GIVEN DISTINCT ROLES

By Baba's grace He has cleared up that situation and everyone should be aware of Baba's stand.

Baba has given each a role to play: Family people and sannyasis. The duty of each has been allotted. We do not have any option. What Guru says we should follow.

Sannyasis have only one family (i.e. the greater universal family) they have to do more sadhana and help others in their development / 16 Pts. They should not drown in all kinds of vices including self-indulgence.

And family people have two families (unit and cosmic) and must participate in organisational life and serve the society. That is their dharma.

BEWARE: DO NOT BE LIKE ANIMALS

If either family margiis or Wts do not pay heed to Baba's aforementioned guideline, then they may be no better than animals.

For instance, the status of those family margiis totally indulged in their unit family life is like that of an animal. Why? Because even wild animals, especially mammals, have their own family and attend to their responsibilities. So if one family person does like this and neglects the greater universal family, they are not human.

Likewise if a sannyasi is engrossed in their own luxuries, material wealth, and selfishness, they are also like a beast.

                                          BABA'S BLESSING

Baba has made it very clear what our duties are. We are to follow our allotted duty and fulfill our human dharma.

Namaskar,
Bhaskaran

"(A'mi) krpa'-kanika' ceyechiluma, Tumi karun'a'dha'ra' d'helecho... (1355)

Purport:

Baba, You are ever gracious. I was asking for an iota of Your divine grace and You have showered me with the endless flow of Your infinite karuna [1]. Living in this world, in the ocean of sorrow, everything is transitory; it cannot give us eternal happiness. Baba, I wanted You to bless me with a wee-bit of Your divine grace and a'nandam. And You have showered me in the causeless compassion of Your varabhaya mudra. Baba, You have completely flooded my entire being. Your infinite grace is boundless.

With the passage of time, so many jiivas come and go in this srsti (creation). In this panoramic cycle of life and death, so many jiivas come and go. They are unable to remember you constantly. O' Baba, You keep careful watch over one and all - unit and vast. You witness everything. Everything occurs under Your divine witnesship. Baba, You care for everyone via your ota and prota yoga.

O' Parama Puruas, You are the ocean of love. By Your grace You have removed all cimmerian darkness and negative samskaras. You have graciously removed the bondages and showered me with Your effulgence. With the warm, loving touch of Your heart, with the flow of nectar, You have showered Your grace and this whole universe became dhanya [2]. Baba, You blessed all with Your infinite grace.

Baba, I surrender to Your lotus feet...

Notes for Prabhat Samgiita #1355:

[1] Karuna': (Literally: 'Divine Compassion'); When Parama Purus'a sees the suffering of devotees, then He feels pained by how they are unable to move ahead on the spiritual path due to getting caught up in various problems and difficulties. In such circumstances, Parama Purusa cannot bear to watch His bhaktas go through so much struggle and strife. So in their helpless condition, when devotees are trying hard to progress but their pathway is completely obstructed and they cannot advance in their sadhana or spiritual life-- and again and again they are overcome by various complexes, bondages, and obstacles-- then by seeing His devotees beleaguered in this way, Parama Purus'a Himself comes and graces them. With His immense feeling of karuna' (divine compassion), Parama Purusa blesses His devotees and relieves them of their pain and suffering. This special grace is nothing but His divine karuna': Wherein Parama Purus'a graces the devotees and removes their troubles and hindrances so that once again they can move ahead freely on the path of spiritual salvation.

[2] Dhanya: This means successful in the spiritual sphere in the form of reaching your Goal, reaching your Destination, attaining Parama Puruaa. Baba blesses us with this idea at the conclusion of all His devotional discourses. It is His special blessing for spiritual victory and reaching Him.

Baba says, "He is with you – He will give you proper direction so that with His gospels for the salvation of the universal creation, you will reach your goal without much difficulty. He will do what is necessary. You just go on obeying Him, just go on doing His work and adhere to what He says with all your energy. Let the speed of His introversial thinking be accelerated by your noble actions and by your spiritual pursuits. Let that golden day come at the earliest and make your life effulgent." (SS-18)

Many Wts Confused Baba's Working Style

Baba

Prabhat Samgiita #324

PS intro: This below Prabhat Samgiita, song #324, is a neo-humanistic song given by Baba on 10 March 1983. Thereafter Baba expressed this same theme in His RU address and DMC discourse of 28 and 29 May, respectively. In both those discourses He has given the same type of idea but in greater detail. However, as the DMC speech has still not been translated into English, a portion of Baba's RU speech is cited below, after the purport of the song. In that RU address, Baba is specifically telling that everything is the expression of Parama Purusa: He is expressing Himself throughout this manifested universe. That is the central idea of His RU discourse and Prabhat Samgiita #324 is based on this same concept.

"Moder dhara' ru'pe peyeche toma'r ru'per sa'je..." (PS 324)

Purport:

O' Lord, this world has become beautiful because of Your infinite charm. That is why I behold You everywhere in all Your creations. When I look at any expression then I see that You are there. You are expressing Yourself in that form. O' Parama Purusa, You are expressing Your grandeur in the form of all these created entities - animate and inanimate. You Yourself are One but Your expressions are many. You express Yourself in innumerable shapes and forms. You are hiding within Your creation.

O' Divine Entity, You are present everywhere - in all the flows. Nothing is outside Your mental arena; everything is within the purview of Your mind. That is why nothing is ever lost. I am in Your mind and I do according to Your desires. This entire creation is in Your mind and I am one part of that. I am working according to Your exact wish. Because this entire creation is Your thought projection.

O' Supreme One, O' Baba, You are present in each and every thought. Whatever human beings think is known to You since You are the Witnessing Entity of that very thought process. Baba, You are very vast: Everything is in Your mind. Baba, You are very small: You are present in everyone's thoughts. Baba, You are smaller than the smallest and bigger than the biggest. Baba, even by mistake I do not think that besides You anything else exists. You are everything.

Baba, by Your grace I always think that You are the quintessence...

Note 1: Here is a portion of Baba's RU address of 28 May 1983 wherein He is expressing this same type of idea as has been expressed in the above song.

"Neohumanism includes within its scope not only human beings and animate creatures, such as plants and animals, but all inanimate entities as well, for the scope of Neohumanism extends down to the smallest particles of sub-atomic matter... Why should the love and affection of developed human minds be restricted to human beings only? Why should it not include all living beings, including plant life? This is the new explanation of humanism - neohumanism - for within neohumanism the entire animate world is included...And that golden day is sure to come when that perfect stage of structure, that is, unit existence in the intra-atomic world, will be reached, when human intuition will realize that the essence in the sub-atomic world is pure Consciousness." (Neo-Humanism in a Nutshell - 1)

Note 2: Materialists think that everything comes from matter while Baba's Ananda Marga philosophy states that everything comes from Brahma. This then is the fundamental difference between the static world view of materialism and our spiritual outlook. Needless to say, our spiritual perspective changes the whole view of this universe as well as our relation with it. Materialists think that the world is for their self-satisfaction only whereas in Ananda Marga we think that we have come to this world to serve others since all are the expression of Parama Purusa.

BABA'S WORKING STYLE:

SOME STILL CONFUSED

Part 1

Namaskar,
As we all now know, from the very outset, Baba had a grand plan for the humanity. And He presented it step by step in a very smooth and practical manner - over the course of time.

On day 1 in 1955, He did not call everyone together for a seminar and tell them to write down a list of His each and every plan for the entire humanity. Nor did He do so in 1970 or 1978.

For example, He did not give Prabhat Samgiita, or Gurukul or neo-humanism in those early days. If He had done so, people would not have been ready. However, that does not mean that Baba did not have the idea or plan to put forth those projects - everything was in His cosmic mind - but people were not ready for those teachings.

At that time, no one would have been able to learn that way - nor would they have remembered because of the great extent of His teachings. Already Parama Purusa Baba was presenting so many new programs. And to remember and learn anything new and revolutionary, human beings must engage in that enterprise and repeat it again and again - practically with their own hands. Then that experience gives a deep impression in the mind. That way the mind gets saturated with that idea.

Hence, Baba took a divine approach, which we now may call His working or teaching style in the pre-1990 period. As we all saw, those days - step by step - Baba would present a new plan and program.

EVERYTHING DONE IN PHASES TO TEACH US

That means in one work phase, Baba might emphasize the need for a school - i.e. that each village must have a primary school. To teach this point, all workers and margiis got involved in securing funds to start a school. There was huge momentum in that moment to focus on the establishment of Ananda Marga primary schools. That was the main program Baba would ask about in reporting.

In turn, some units created comparatively successful schools while many did not - but everyone learned that a primary school was needed in order to propagate the ideas of Ananda Marga. That teaching everyone got. In each and every reporting session, Baba would ask, praise, scold, & guide about this point of creating schools until He was satisfied that everyone understood that a school was needed in every small or big town and village throughout the entire globe. By that way, from their very childhood, children will learn Ananda Marga ideals.

In some places, expensive buildings were purchased for schools but only got used a few times, or maybe not at all. The main thing was that everyone got the psychic understanding about the need for a school. That was Baba's aim all along.

HOW TRANSFERS WERE DONE

When this program was built up and some of the schools were going strong, Baba might transfer the lead Dada from that project and post a fresh new Dada from Training Center to that school who had little skill or language knowledge of that area. The school would inevitably suffer and ultimately close, but that new Dada got the needed training and the prior Dada was freed up to learn a new aspect of Baba's vast program like Prout or dharma pracara or VSS work. That was the way things went.

Baba told Wts to create Lfts who can run the school and inform margiis that they should oversee the operations of the school. Then the school would be sustainable. But in many cases, margiis may not have been active or were already too busy and there were no LFTs, in which case a very reputable Ananda Marga school eventually closed.

In such a situation some naive margiis started thinking to request Baba not to transfer the Wt of that unit in hopes of saving the school. But Baba did not listen to such pleas. And other workers tried to convince margiis about this in their own way.

HOW DADAS JUSTIFIED BABA'S WORKING STYLE

After a Dada was transferred from a particular unit and the projects and programs in that area were disrupted and disturbed, then local margiis would ask their SS Dada, "Why is Baba doing like this?"

Some Wts had no clue how to respond. So they came up with the bogus answer that Baba is like the Tibetan Guru Marpa and we should think of ourselves as Milarepa. This especially happened in NY sector when in one era all were moving with the Milarepa story in one hand. But that was an outrageous response and it was a terrible blunder to talk like this. See note 1.

The proper answer would have been, "I don't know." That would have been better; but, unfortunately, that was not done. In turn, margiis got more confused. And sadly still that confusion remains in many cases.

BABA'S SPECIAL COSMIC PLAN

Actually, it would have been impractical to keep one committed Dada assigned to a single school for years and years. Baba was putting forth His new and newer plan for the humanity and training wts.

Plus when workers were transferred to new posts and jobs, they developed greater experience and learned new languages, psychologies, and problem solving skills etc. All along Baba was creating new and newer programs in further succession. If those Dadas had been kept in those old programs then who would have been available to learn the new programs.

In Him,
Kevalam

Note 1: MISUNDERSTANDING OF SOME DADAS:

JUST LIKE THE STORY OF MILAREPA

They were telling that Baba is like the Tibetan Buddhist guru Marpa who was giving the order to his disciple(s) to make and break buildings - make and break, and make and break.

In legend, it is well-documented that Marpa was a Buddhist guru in Tibet and before giving any spiritual training to his perspective disciples he would allot difficult tasks. They were forced to meaninglessly and uselessly construct buildings through years and years of bone breaking labor. These buildings were made by individual muscle power alone. And as soon as they were constructed then Marpa would order his followers to dismantle it stone by stone. This was not some social service project for the welfare of humanity. This was just the order of one lunatic.

So it is unfortunate that some confused Wts propagated and equated Baba in this way. It is so disgraceful. First thing is that in Ananda Marga, initiation is accessible to all - bar none. There are no stipulations. Those interested will get diiksa. In stark contrast, the pseudo-guru Marpa harassed his new recruits like Milarepa for decades and decades and never gave them any true training or guidance. How can one sane person link such dealings with Baba. It is unfortunate that sill some are believing this myth. The only redeeming aspect is that such misunderstanding is primarily contained to NY sector.

Note 2: START PRIMARY SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD

Here below Baba reveals His strategy to start primary schools throughout the world.

(Note: Baba is adamantly against the build-up of any high school until we have our Ananda Marga primary schools in each and every village of this earth. On this very point, Baba has given the logic and reasoning. By Ananda Marga primary schools, Ananda Marga bhagavad dharma will established little by little. I don't know anyone who does not understand this point - i.e. all understand.)

“We must start primary schools throughout the entire world to create a spiritual urge amongst the little pupils. I am not in favour of starting colleges; I am in favour of starting primary schools. In the entire world we have got one degree college at Ananda Nagar and thousands of kindergarten schools. That is why it is desirable in the first phase to start many primary schools instead of colleges. Merely opening high schools and colleges without a proper system of education will not serve the purpose. Rather, thousands of kindergarten and primary schools must be started with this new system of education, to create a spiritual urge amongst children throughout the entire world.” (Discourses on Neohumanist Education: Prama-4)

Subject: Baba's Working Style: Some Still Confused #2

BABA'S WORKING STYLE:

SOME STILL CONFUSED

PART 2

Namaskar,
This is the second part of the ongoing series about Baba's working style. The first letter examined how Sadguru Baba introduced His various plans and program in a phase-wise approach. By this method, He practically demonstrated the wide array of projects that must be properly implemented. Thus, He posted and reposted Wts to best teach them about the various types of works that needed to be done. More about this is discussed below as well as how Baba mapped out an entire blueprint for serving humanity.

"when workers were transferred to new posts and jobs, they developed greater experience and learned new languages, psychologies, and problem solving skills etc. All along Baba was creating new and newer programs in further succession. If those Dadas had been kept in those old programs then who would have been available to learn the new programs."

TWO IMPORTANT POINTS

Baba's phase-wise working style aimed to achieve two distinct goals. First, the already existing programs which He gave to serve society for thousands of years should continue running operated by Lfts and margiis. Second, those new programs, which were also for the humanity, had to be started by Wts.

WHY THE NEED FOR NEW PROGRAMS

Imagine if Baba did not give new programs. Then Ananda Marga would not have been complete, and after '90, margiis would never have thought that such programs should be done. For example, in various religions, social service programs are not as vast and comprehensive as those in Ananda Marga. Our programs serve each and every arena of individual and collective life of the entire society.

For instance, the Hindu religion does not have any social service programs (see note 1). And Christianity does not have a logical spiritual philosophy let alone a socio-economic plan. And Buddhists do not have any real approach for social service programs (see note 2. But Ananda Marga has all that and so much more.

Furthermore, if Baba kept one Wt as a teacher for decades and decades at one school then who would have learned the new programs He was putting forth. If the school could not be maintained by margiis and Lfts, then Baba would lovingly scold everyone for the closure o)f the school - but He would not stop His divine plan of presenting dynamic new programs. His aim was to give a blueprint for what to do and how to proceed.

When Baba got a report that a school did close, then He lovingly scolded everyone from top to bottom. He told Wts that it is the duty of Lfts to run the school and that Wts should ensure that the school was operating well. Whole-timers were to oversee those Lfts and get needed work done by margiis. That was the system. This was all part of Baba's blueprint for serving humanity.

MORE ABOUT THE NEED FOR TRANSFERS

One thing to understand is that those days Wts were getting transferred frequently because the number of Wts was not very high. We did not have a lot of workers and Baba wanted to unveils an increasing number of programs to wts and margiis. So when margiis and wts had learned that primary schools are an important service project, then Baba added that a school must have a children's home also. And if some unit had many children in their home then Baba might post a Wt for the home as well. That was the home superintendent post. And when the home started running properly and was respected, after some time the Wt got transferred and it was the duty of the Lfts and margiis to run that home. But when this did not happen, that children's home would also collapse. This happened year after year. Schools and childrens' homes closed and opened while new programs were always getting introduced. And certainly some of those schools and projects of old are still running to this very day. But the main thing is that Baba was presenting us with His blueprint for serving humanity.

Plus, more areas had to be covered around the globe and Wts were needed to go to other districts, regions and countries where pracara was newly started. And Baba also created so many new organisations - such as Prout, PBI (Proutist Block of India), VSS, SDM, and countless more - and He needed workers to staff those organisations.

By this way, people knew that Baba made all those organisations, whereas if He had not posted workers to those organisations, we would not know that such organisations existed or were needed. We would not know that we were to manage those organisations in the due course. So Baba did all this to make a crystal-clear blueprint for serving humanity.

BABA'S GRAND BLUEPRINT

So Baba was creating a blueprint of future organisational activities. It is just like if you want to build a big mansion, then you may or may not have money, but you must have building plans and / or a blueprint.

All along it was quite obvious that margiis and lfts were needed to help with all new programs. So they were assigned to many projects but it was not always possible for them to properly attend to them all.

On the top, Baba wanted to have personal communication with each and every margii and wt that is why He would call them in reporting sessions and give His divine blessing. By having His darshan everyone become stronger devotionally. So each month, time passed in this way, by His grace.

In other words, Baba had so many different programs to show us. That is why, ultimately in a short span, Baba would add a new project. Baba never stopped any project but told that it was the duty of Wts, Lfts and margiis to manage old as well new works. It was His grace - His liila.

ANALOGY OF TECHNICAL COLLEGE:

MAKING AND BREAKING

Think of it this way. Just as a technical institute has a workshop so their students learn can and practice what to do by making and breaking various projects, a similar method was going on in Ananda Marga before 1990.

In the case of trainees in the technical college, they are under the tutelage of their teachers. By making and breaking, they gain the requisite skills and understanding for how to work on their own. And finally when their training is complete and they have earned their degree, they are ready to work professionally in a factory etc. Before that, they were just trainees - just making and breaking for learning purposes. So there is a distinct difference between their training time in the workshop and the professional work that occurs in the factory.

Before 1990 in Ananda Marga, the situation was akin to a workshop where huge training was going on. People were making and breaking schools and various other works. This was the time of their apprenticeship. By this way, they were being taught so they could carry out Guru's plans and programs in the future. The main thing was that Baba was giving a blueprint and creating a workshop environment to prepare everyone for their future works and assignments.

The phase before 1990 phase was for learning - i.e. making and breaking - and it was not meant to go on forever. But unfortunately many could not understand. Now, this is becoming more clear to everyone.

In Him,
Kevalam

Note 1: WORLD IS ILLUSION - NO NEED TO SERVE

Everyone knows that in Shrii Shankaracarya's non-dualistic philosophy there is only Brahma - nothing else. There is no importance of the external world; world is seen as an illusion. So there is no need of social service when the world itself is an illusion. That was his teaching. But nowadays, the Hindus are copying Christianity and they have begun doing some social service. But that social service was not born out of any Hindu doctrine.

Note 2: BUDDHA DID NOT GIVE A SOCIAL CODE

Lord Buddha did not give any social scripture - rather, his nihilism philosophy neglected the world. Thus Buddhism is devoid of any social code. So those disciples of Buddhism just continued those same social trends that they were doing earlier in their Hindu heritage.
