Baba
"Toma're satata nandita kari..." (1279)
Purport:
Baba, by Your grace by giving You pleasure I move foward on Your divine
path-- towards You. Other than Your ideation and Your consciousness, I do
not have any other fuel for moving ahead on the on-going path. Baba, by
Your grace I always remain intoxicated in Your name and song. In my dhyan I
ask for a wee-bit of Your grace. In my shravan, manan, and nididhyasana You
have blessed me with the realisation that except You there is nothing. In
dance, song, and bliss; in grief, pain and joy; from the desert heat to the
mountain's chill, in each and every circumstance by Your grace I receive
You. Baba, You are so gracious; I get You in all...
== OUR DIVYACARA SADHANA ==
Namaskar,
In one historic discourse Baba has graciously proclaimed Himself as the
Guru of the common people. And as proof, He has given His highest lessons
of yoga-- Sahaja Yoga (our six lessons)-- for all to practice.
However one common belief circulating around is that Avadhuta sadhana is
great sadhana. Such that some of our Avadhuta WTs, Dadas, & Didis whom I
know personally, unfortunately think that just by getting Avadhuta diiksa &
initiation into kapalik sadhana then they became great. And in this way
these Workers develop false vanity and a terrible superiority complex.
OPEN COMMUNICATION ON SPIRITUAL TOPICS
First off there is one thing I would like to make clear. That my intention
is not to pull down the status of Kapalik Diiksa. Just on philosophical
ground anybody has right to talk about the various kinds of sadhana which
Baba has given us. Such as the jurisdiction of each type of sadhana, and
how that sadhana works in the life of sadhakas.
For example we are all free to discuss how pashvacara sadhana works, how
viiracara sadhana system functions, as well as where divyacara meditation
starts and what is its culminating point.
When Baba has given this system of meditation, by this way He is
encouraging us to talk and explore these ideas. And we can share the ideas
on the basis of His teachings from different General Darshan or DMC
discourses. Means these things Baba has given in His discourses.
It gives also the feeling and supports the logic that Baba Himself
encourages this type of healthy discussion. Where we talk about the various
methods of spiritual practices and what way they affect the human mind.
This is one practical science, the science of metaphysics. And finally it
comes in the scope of higher aspects of psychology.
While talking in 1990 DMC Baba has told clearly that methodical knowledge
of sadhana is highly needed. If aspirants do not know the proper system of
sadhana then their result of sadhana may be futile, or not up to the mark.
Or if sadhana is done incorrectly then there may be a negative outcome. So
talking and discussing about the various methods of sadhana is very
important.
Plus if we review in pointed way, then we can say this is the theoretical
aspect of the practical sadhana which we practice.
So on this point we have full right to talk about the qualities of
Pashvacara, Viiracara, or Divyacara-- as well as which one is very
practical for all. And which one brings up to ultimate salvation.
NO COMPLEX OR PRIDE
As well all know one basic spiritual guideline is that vanity should not be
encouraged. But because of inherent samskaras and due to crude motivation
or crude interest, then generally people fall prey to this vanity. And once
this vanity takes root then in any direction it can go. Here is some example.
Surely those who do kapalik sadhana or viiracara sadhana have the
opportunity to get benefited by this type of sadhana. Because, if done
properly, then the mind will be elevated-- there is no question of
superiority or inferiority complex. But, unfortunately, as I told above
many Workers only fall into a superiority complex of kapalik-sadhana. So by
analyzing the situation it gives the feeling that somewhere along the line
there is a defect. Here I do not think any defect in the system of sadhana,
but in the person there is something.
SAHAJA YOGA IS THE TOP-MOST
Here we should all remember that Viiracara or Kapalik sadhana is lower than
Divyacara or sahaja yoga sadhana. This is not my personal opinion, rather
Baba Himself says this.
BABA says, "The first style, from animality to humanity, is known as
pashva'ca'ra. The second stage, or the second style, is viira'ca'ra...the
final stage, divya'ca'ra is for all who want to elevate themselves to the
supreme excellence of Parama Purusa." (AVM-14)
So those who have Kapalik sadhana are not allowed to leave the practice of
sahaja yoga. But those not practicing or who are not initiated into kapalik
sadhana, for them there is no question or need of doing kapalik sadhana.
Means they need not worry because already they have Divyacara sadhana, i.e.
the six lessons. And that is higher than kapalik sadhana.
So the sense is that those who are doing Kapalik sadhana cannot live
without divyacara or sahaja yoga sadhana. But those who are doing sahaja
yoga sadhana they are practicing full, and that sadhana alone is enough to
carry them to the stage of complete salvation (moksa).
Surely Kapalik-sadhana does not have that type of capacity or quality to
lead to the highest Goal. If that was the case, then surely Baba would not
have forced kapalik sadhakas to continue practicing sahaja yoga sadhana.
This logic is enough to prove that the periphery, quality, reach and
standard of Kapalika is less than Divyacara sadhana.
Conclusion:
Divyacarara or Sahaja is very high in comparison to the other two sadhanas:
(1) Pashvacara and (2) Viiracara / Kapalik.
EVERYONE GETS BENEFITED
Some readers may wonder what is the need to compare all these. The answer
is to help all sadhakas.
(a) Those who learned kapalik sadhana and are feeling superiority complex,
by the encouragement of that complex they are widening the path of their
degeneration. So if they will analyze that viiracara is not as great as
they are thinking, then their ego will be controlled and they will be
benefited.
(b) Those suffering from inferiority complex and mentally they think that
they tried to learn kapalik sadhana but in the present atmosphere of
politics they could not get teaching. And in consequence they started
feeling inferiority complex of their lowly standard on the basis of
dogmatic belief. And this type of wrong belief is nothing-- just simple
belief that viiracara sadhana is great. So those suffering inferiority
complex due to this dogma, their complex will get cured. And their mind
will become balanced. That means spiritual flow will come and the pathway
of their progress will be widened.
c) And those who do not have such type of complexes with regard to kapalik
sadhana-- here is a reminder that they can help others in curing their
problems.
WHO DOES PARAMA PURUSA FAVOUR?
In the last part of my letter I want to say that whatever our Guru has
given that is enough for attaining our ultimate Goal. The only need is to
sincerely practice those things.
Here in AM the condition of Guru is like one benevolent most loving mother.
Such a mother loves the child most which is most dependent on her. But at
the same time the mother does not like to show the eldest sons and
daughters that she has less love for them in comparison to her youngest
child.
The problem reaches to the predicament where the elder son or daughter of
18 years asks the mother, 'who do you love more?' Then the mother just
smiles and says 'you'. But internally mother is loving the younger most
dependent child the most.
In the same way the divine truth is that Parama Purusa favours those who
long for HIM, those who depend on HIM.
Baba says, "Parama'tma' only considers the inner thoughts and devotional
sentiments of people. The intense desire to know Him, the deep urge to
attain Him, the intense longing for Him--these are the qualities which
Parama Purus'a values." (APH, p. 295)
So it is clear that Baba loves according to the standard of devotion. But
at the same time on the organisational aspect BABA likes that those doing
dexterous work should feel they are the most significant ones. Because with
this feeling they will do more social service. In this manner Baba has
given various posts, power and positions to such people etc.
If you see on the point of devotion then you can understand this point very
well. That Baba gives most significant things to devotees. That is why in
innumerable places Baba says that 'just nama mantra is enough to reach to
Parama Purusa'.
Once Baba told that vishesh yogis will be sitting there again and again
while devotees with the help of nama mantra will reach the Supreme goal.
We know that the best thing or best sadhana system Baba wants to give to
devotees. That is why HE has made Divyacara sadhana/sahaja yoga sadhana,
for one and all.
And to please workers, and those who are post holders HE has given something
which, if you say in strong language, is a sadhana that has less
importance. The sense is Baba gas given those sadhana on the basis of
post-power etc to impress them and make them happy to do greater social
service.
SURRENDER TO BABA
Excuse me this is very critical and pointed subject. Those who do not have
pointed understanding or devotion, this is not easy to understand. Because
all together it is His divine liila the way He expresses.
In the end I conclude my letter with this mantra of Guru Puja:
'Tava dravyam jagatguru tubhyameva samarpaye.'
Oh my dearest Baba, my everything which is in true sense Yours, I surrender
and offer at Your lotus feet.
Also here BABA says, "O Lord, Thy will be done. I am but a machine. Utilize
this machine in any way You like. I am nothing but a mere tool in Your
hands." (NKS pg 31)
Namaskar,
Acintya
Note 1: GURU DHYAN IS THE HIGHEST LESSON
Viracara or kapalik sadhana is not the highest one. No it is not. The
sahaja yoga, especially dhyana is the highest lesson. So those who are
practicing sahaja yoga, why they should not go to cemetery for sadhana?
There is no question of this.
Because Kapalik sadhana is viiracara, so it is below sahaja yoga / the six
lessons. It is the second grade of sadhana in this system of Pashvacara,
Viiracara, and Divyacara. While Divyacara is the final or highest. So dhyan
is the highest lesson. Nobody should have inferior or superior complex on
this matter of spiritual practices.'
BABA says, "The first style, from animality to humanity, is known as
pashva'ca'ra. The second stage, or the second style, is viira'ca'ra...the
final stage, divya'ca'ra is for all who want to elevate themselves to the
supreme excellence of Parama Purusa." (AVM- 14)
So ultimately, dhyan, which is the last lesson of sahaja yoga sadhana, is
the highest lesson. Because by practicing dhyan one attains salvation and
becomes one with the Supreme Entity.
Note 2: GROUP POLITICS RULING KAPALIK
Nowadays in this extreme atmosphere of groupism, getting kapalik sadhana is
almost nothing more than a political maneuver. Because without politics one
cannot get. Whereas before 1990 when Baba was controlling everything this
was not the case. He was doing according to His own desire. And it was
perfect. So to whom Baba taught the things that was fine-- and everyone
accepted the matter. But now the situation has become politicized. So no
one should pray into the hands of group politics and get exploited.
Note 3: DEVOTION IS THE BE-ALL & END-ALL
The goal of each and every sadhana is to reach to Parama Purusa. That is
the hidden point or secret behind any sadhana. That is the way by which to
see which is great. So all are great. Means all are claiming be the road to
Parama Purusa. But above all, according to Baba devotion is the main thing.

Link Between English and Sanskrit
Baba says, "Sanskrit is a language about 15,000 years old and it is no
longer a spoken language. Furthermore in Sanskrit each and every word is
created from a root verb." (AVM-14)
Baba furthermore explains, "The word jina'na (knowledge) is derived from
the Sanskrit root verb jina' (to know).... The verb jina' was changed into
keno in old Latin language. In Sanskrit the pronunciation is jina', in
Bengali jina, in the Rgvedic language jina, in Old Latin keno, and in
Modern English "know"-- as the original spelling of the word was "kenow",
we still spell the word with a "k" at the beginning without actually
pronouncing it." (YP)

"Toma'r bha'laba'sa' bu'jhe nijeke khunje peyechi..." (P.S. 4504)
Purport:
Baba, only with Your divine love I could search for & find my true self.
Earlier I was confused about who I am and I was always feeling sad and
pessimistic about my future. But now by Your grace in my heart I feel Your
love-- I feel that I am under Your shelter at Your lotus feet. Baba, now,
by Your grace, I understand where I am; my life has become meaningful.
Baba, You are the polestar of my life. By Your arrival, my whole existence
is only moving towards You. It is so blissful.
Baba when I get fatigued & tired by involving in the work, & when negative
thoughts ruin my peace and tranquility, & when the clouds of hopelessness
come-- then I take shelter in Your divine love.
Baba, my mental sky, my air, my breath, my entire existence, my
everything is dancing according to Your melody. My hopes get fulfilled by
Your samvit (force of awakening). From the divine land, one unknown angel
is beckoning me. O' my dearmost Parama Purusa, You are that very apsera'
(angel). By Your grace I have realised this truth in my meditation.
Baba, by Your grace, I am completely ensconced in Your love and now I
understand that I am completely sheltered in Your lap...
== INTEGRAL INGREDIENT FOR RENEWING AM ==
Namaskar,
In order to bring our Marga around to the proper path we must follow
Baba in all respects-- especially with regards to pointing out the
faults of others. That is the positive way to proceed.
Otherwise, the various ills from group wars to Fake Ananda Vaniis
will perpetuate themselves in our organistation. And that no one
wants to see happen.
UNDERSTANDING BABA'S WAY
All around the globe, every margii & worker understands that everything
Baba does is out supreme welfare motive. With His immense and boundless
love for humanity, He has graciously shown us the pathway for making a
clean, well-knit society.
Even then one or two simple persons get confused from time to time by
watching Baba's style. Because in their dizzy way they wonder why on the
one side Baba has given various teachings like 'No Mudslinging' or 'Don't
criticize' etc, yet then in His own conduct Baba Himself strongly abuses
Wts in reporting sessions and harshly condemns the dogmatic religions etc
in His discourses. Seeing this apparent contradiction in their little
minds, a couple simple bystanders remain sunk in confusion about all this.
When actually the matter is perfectly straight like an arrow.
BABA'S POSITIVE APPROACH
Because we know Baba has deep love for all and He wants everyone to move
ahead in a positive way. His deep desire is that we should all clearly
understand what is right as well as what wrong. So we can reach our Goal.
In that way, with 100% benevolent intention, Baba has given so many
guidelines and enforced them as well. Because by this way we can all learn
from our mistakes and grow into strong sadhakas and assets of the society.
JUST LIKE FAMILY MEMBERS DO
It is similar to how those who are real friends, parents, and guardian
guide others. Because they do not like to see their loved ones in problem--
committing the same error again and again. So with good feeling and
compassion those family members guide their near and dear ones about how to
correct and better themselves. This is the way it works when people feel
close and intimate with one another.
ANOTHER CASE IN POINT
Or the situation is similar to when anyone goes to a pathology centre. In
that case those working at that pathological medical centre will put forth
a sincere effort and try hard to identify and cure the problem. Because
their desire is to help diagnose any and all diseases. And with that pure
intention, they help their patients to regain their health, feel good
again, and function at 100% capacity.
BABA'S SUPREME BENEVOLENCE
GIVING SOLUTION IS NOT MUDSLINGING
Likewise-- as all of us recognise-- Baba is the perfect personification of
love and compassion. Thus when He points out the problems or defects with
any worker etc, that is done on the basis of His benevolent intention. And
side by side He supplies that person with the best solution. And by this
positive approach that person will get purified and become more and more
like the Goal-- Parama Purus'a.
So Baba's entire style is not at all like mudslinging because in
mudslinging one wants to maliciously make the next person look bad. In that
case the intention is totally negative.
While in Baba's divine example, the situation is the exact opposite. His
motive is perfectly benevolent and He is pointing out problem-- not the
worker. And in that situation by following Baba's instruction, then
immediately that worker becomes blessed as he will eliminate the problem
from his life & everything will be beautiful. The result being that the
standard of that worker will be higher; and he will be more successful in
his mission. All because of Baba's benevolent and pro-active approach.
RECIPE FOR MAKING PEOPLE GREAT
So side by side, pointing out the problem and giving the solution is Baba's
special and unique method for improving one and all and helping everyone to
become great-- and free from defects.
By His example and practical teaching, we can clearly understand that He
wants and expects that His disciples should proceed in the same fashion.
That is, with a warm heart we should always help others to improve by
overcoming their problems. As this is one necessary ingredient for leading
a harmonious life & achieving the Goal.
HIS GUIDELINE TO ALL ANANDA MARGIIS
That is why on numerous occasion Baba guides us to strictly watch over
everyone's growth and development, and not allow anyone to get stuck in any
bad habits or poor behaviours. Rather Baba wants that we should help one
and all to become top-grade dharmikas.
Baba says, "Hence all A'nanda Ma'rgiis, when they see other Margiis actions
against the principles of Yama and Niyama, must make them shun this habit
either by sweet or harsh words, or by dealing even more strictly." (GHC, p.24)
Baba says, "I gave a direction to all that they should keep watch on one
another. No one will exempt anyone else regarding the Sixteen Points."
(AV-23 p.149)
Baba says, "Henceforth I direct every Ananda Margii to keep strict
vigilance on other Ananda Margiis to make them practise the principles of
Yama and Niyama." (GHC, p.25)
So by following Baba's divine instructions by pointing out the defects &
keeping an open heart for one and all, we can help one another to become
better & better-- until we finally become one with Parama Purusa.
Thus when we have so many ills going on in our Marga, it is absolutely essential
to bring things into proper shape. Sciptures must be printed properly, BP
manuals should not be manipulated, Fake Ananda Vaniis must be tossed aside,
the dogma of Mahaprayan must be dropped, and so many more defects must get
corrected. And the only way to do this is to point out and hammer on those
groupists who are creating all these problems.
BABA'S BLESSING
Baba says, "A perfect state of balance will be established between
individuals and the collectivity, and between the collectivity and the
cosmos...That will be the stage of all-round welfare, progress, and
perfection for the entire humanity, for the entire living world." (AFPS-8,
p.36)
Namaskar,
Mantreshvar
Note 1: ONLY SOME GET CONFUSED
Certainly most have proper understanding and awareness about the
aforementioned points. So they have Baba's teaching firmly in mind. Only a
few simple ones take the matter in a negative way and for that reason they
remain terribly confused. And not only on this issue but on any number of
Baba's teachings these same type of naive & scattered persons take the
matter in the wrong direction. When in reality such confusion is totally
unwarranted. Because Baba Himself has given such colourful and perfect
descriptions and explanations-- so no one should be confused. Even then
some who are slightly less than clear-minded mix up one after another of
Baba's teachings. And the above points about mudslinging, pointing out, and
giving the solution are no exception. On these matters also they are
confused.
Note 2: PLEASE ALSO SAY
This topic has great significance in building up a brilliant Marga society
so any and all brothers and sisters should kindly come forward and also
share their thoughts and views on this important matter. This is my humble
request.

Good Sadhaka
Baba says, "The mind of the man whose consciousness or discriminating
judgement is awakened-- whose power of judgment is intense, always remains
wedded to the 'Buddhi'. That is to say, his rein (mind) remains constantly
under the control of the charioteer (Buddhi or discriminating intellect),
and so, quite naturally, his organs remain loyal to the Buddhi. Random
rambles of the organ-like horses (organs) will cut no ice with him. But in
a case like this if the horses (organs) be bad and untrained, i.e. the
organs are faulty, it becomes impossible for the charioteer (discriminating
intellect) to get the desired result. Hence for the right functioning of
the chariot (body), well-trained horses (organs) are indispensable. A
sadhaka (spiritual aspirant) also should train himself likewise. His mind,
body, intellect, and organs should be directed towards the Blissful Spirit
(Shreya)." (SS-4, p.9)

Baba
"A'lote cha'ya'te dukha-sukhate ket'eche janam kato..." (PS 1128)
Purport:
O' Baba, in search of You I have passed so many lives in pleasure and
pain, in effulgence and darkness. My days have passed in good and bad,
virtue and vice, bliss and misery. Over and over again, countless times, I
have come onto this earth. Baba, in this relative world, whatever I have
gained, I have lost. Everything in this material world is transitory:
Nothing is stationary; nothing is permanent. Baba, whatever came to me has
gone away. Even then by Your grace the lamp of my hope remains lit to get
You.
Baba, the cyclone of my life has come making a loud, bustling sound and
it has turned my existence upside down. Baba, in this difficult situation,
I have received Your grace and I want for my mind to be fully satiated in
Your divine love. Even then I have lost the path and am moving in a
downward direction. I do not understand what is right and what is wrong--
what is virtue and what is vice. Baba, please save me from this miserable
situation, from this cyclone of my life.
O' my dearmost, by Your boundless compassion I have regained the path: I
am adhering to Your teachings and I am slowly moving towards You. Baba, by
Your grace today I understand You. I have learned how to move with Your
divine effulgence. Baba, after wiping away the darkness, please grace me
with more and more of Your effulgence so that I can become one with You.
Baba, without Your grace nothing can happen. Please keep me under Your
shelter and accept my total surrender...
== COMES WITH THE TERRITORY ==
Namaskar,
Around the globe-- especially in the "developing world"-- it is commonly
believed that the so-called first-world nations are tops in all regards--
in all respects.
Overwhelmed by the glamour and material wealth of the west, people naively
think that in every sphere of life, from physical to psychic & from
technology to happiness, that the "developed" nations are towering above
the rest.
And of course, of all the so-called developed nations, it is widely deemed
that the cream of the crop is the USA. Therefore life there must be perfect
and sweet, problem-free. Many innocent people fall prey to this misnomer.
WHAT IS THE REALITY: PSYCHIC ILLNESS IS RAMPANT IN THE US
However what most fail to realise is that the USA is riddled with problems
from head to toe. While there are many defects to point out, perhaps one of
the most concerning items is the widespread psychic disorder known as
depression: Where people are consumed and overwhelmed by feelings of
hopelessness, nervousness, lack of self-assurance, extreme anxiety,
despair, and sorrow etc.
Here we are not talking about a scenario where a distinct incident occurred
which caused one to feel sad such as if one's mother or spouse has died and
the person is temporarily overcome by grief for a few weeks etc. That is
not what is being discussed here-- that is not the epidemic problem at hand
in the USA.
Rather the major tragedy befalling countless citizens in the US is that
just in the course of their 'normal' way of living their psychic state is
becoming so weak, so imbalanced, and so fragile that for no apparent reason
the mass of people are suffering from melancholy, loneliness, helplessness,
and an array unfounded fears and phobias.
All of which lead up to a huge number of cases of the psychic ailment known
as depression. And this is disease is multiplying everyday in the USA.
HOW TO PROCEED: WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF DEPRESSION
To investigate this matter further, there are various directions by which
to proceed. But certainly one obvious avenue is to look into the cause
behind this disturbing phenomenon of mounting depression in the so-called
first-world nation, the USA.
LIFE IS MORE COMPLEX
Scanning the scene, professionals and lay people alike point to a wide
array of reasons for the rise of depression in the US. These range from
organic chemical imbalances in the brain to daily stress and pressures of
life in this fast-paced materialistic conglomerate.
Not to count out organic imbalances, but far and away the initial cause or
the outer layer of depression stems from present day living environment in
the USA.
Life has become highly automated and technological and more and more
complex in the US. Solving problems is no longer a one-person job. And this
causes huge anxiety in people's mental plate as they are constantly worried
about 'What if something goes wrong'.
And side by side in this ever-growing technological world, common citizens
are called upon to do more things and to live life at a faster pace.
All of this leads to a mode of existence where one becomes riddled with
more and more anxieties and fears.
Of course we cannot blame technology and science as being the necessary
evil in this scenario. Rather the uncontrolled and imbalanced use of
science and technology is arguably the leading external cause for the
extreme rise of nervousness, anxiety, and ultimately depression. Where
people in countries like the US become increasingly frazzled and think that
life is beyond their control.
MATERIALISTIC OUTLOOK: 'I AM EVERYTHING'
Even then, the aforementioned complexity of life cannot be seen as the
ultimate be-all and end-all cause of depression. Because complexity of life
can be managed by a strong, well-balanced mind-- one that is God-centered.
But tragically, the mass of the US is wrought with and overrun by
materialism wherein people think that they are all alone in this universe
and they can only rely on themselves to help them. And in that case when
those non-theistic brothers and sisters are also surrounded by a hectic way
of life, they readily fall prey to the diseases of materialism.
Baba says, "In viprapatti, one feels that it is 'I' who does
everything--and no one else. As a result of this, one becomes
crude...Materialism is based on viprapatti; that is why there is sorrow
everywhere in materialism." (AV-1)
So according to Baba, this materialistic outlook of 'I am everything' is
the underlying cause of psychic anxiety in the US. Without feeling that
there is any greater entity to help them, people fall into the trap &
defective way of thinking that 'they themselves are all there is in this
universe'. And this causes them immense psychic strain and depression.
SURRENDER OF BELIEF ON SUPER ENTITY NEEDED
In contrast, no matter how complex this world may be, when one feels that
there is some Great Entity controlling everything and that this Entity is
there to help them, then this provides immense relief in life.
That is why Baba's guideline is that in each and every step of the life one
should rely on Parama Purusa. Otherwise it is not possible to move ahead.
Baba says, "In the first phase you are to ask Parama Purusa for the
vitality to fight against your physical frailities, your physical
imperfections. In the second phase you are to ask for vitality, psychic
vitality." (SS-18, p.9)
Following a God-centered approach where one feels that He is benevolently
controlling everything enables one to forge ahead in life. That is Baba's
teaching. And indeed the eternal truth of this cosmos is that He is
managing everything and it is He who gives us the energy to advance.
So if one adopts the approach that Parama Purusa is the Grand Director and
I am playing one part and that He is there to help me, then naturally this
will put one in a comfortable state of psychic ease-- regardless of the
situation.
But when this outlook is mostly absent in the US and combined with the fact
that life is extremely complex and fast-paced, these two factors stand as
the primary cause of the extreme rise of depression and psychic ailments of
melancholia in our US.
CONTRAST BETWEEN GOD-CENTERED AND MATTER-CENTERED
Here Baba beautifully points out the great joy of life which easily results
from the path of surrender unto Him, and simultaneously He exposes the huge
tension and hopelessness which results if one adopts the materialistic bent
of mind that 'I am everything'.
Baba says, In 'prapatti', the idea that 'everything is being done by His
wish, that it is by His grace that He is using me as a tool, that He may or
may not use me as a tool, but 'His will be done', predominates on one's
mind. To get the full joy of prapatti, one has to surrender completely unto
Him...The feeling is just the reverse in 'viprapatti.' In viprapatti, one
feels that it is 'I' who does everything--and no one else. As a result of
this, one becomes crude...Materialism is based on viprapatti; that is why
there is sorrow everywhere in materialism." (AV-1)
Thus there is a night and day difference between the God-centered approach
of prapatti and the materialistic approach of viprapatti.
In the first, in prapatti or the God-centered way of living, one feels
surrounded by His grace in all situations and one feels that He is always
there to help me. The devotee feels in their heart that Parama Purusa is
personally arranging the best possible outcome for them.
In contrast, in viprapatti or the materialistic outlook, ordinary citizens
feel dwarfed by the complexity of life and overwhelmed by the vastness of
this universe. They develop feelings of ineptness and suffer from the worry
that life is way beyond their control and there is no one else to help
them. In that case, the mind gets completely submerged and drowned in the
depths of hopelessness and despair, leading to a chronic state of depression.
BABA'S WARNING ABOUT MATERIALISM
We know that the greatest wealth humanity has is its psychic wealth. But
when the very way of living-- i.e. materialism-- erodes that special human
treasure, then it is the obvious conclusion that materialism is terribly
dangerous.
Here Baba points out and warns us about extreme danger of materialism.
Baba says, "Materialism is the most dangerous -- indeed, suicidal --
philosophy. ...Materialism is both defective and devoid of morality. That
is why materialists do not recognize Shiva, did not recognize Him, and will
not recognize Him. Even seeing Him before their very eyes, they will never
understand who Shiva is." (NSS, Disc 18)
As Baba warns us, when one's being gets painted in the colours of
materialism then they feel inside that they are all alone and that there is
no one else to help them. And stuck in that defective outlook, even if they
were to see Taraka Brahma face to face in the street, they would be totally
incapable of understanding who He is. They could not feel His grace due to
the staticity of their materialistic bent of mind.
Without that knowledge of His presence, without that inner joy, one is
bound to suffer from melancholy and feelings of hopelessness. And when the
lifestyle is so frenetic and fast-paced like in the USA, then that will
only exacerbate the situation and more quickly invite that deranged psychic
state known as depression. And that is what we are seeing today.
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE TO THINK ABOUT
That is why none-- especially those living in the so-called developing
world-- should unduly think that everything going on in the USA is great.
Because the reality is that the US is a sinking ship-- one main reason
certainly being that its general citizens are losing their mental balance
day by day and succumbing to all kinds of psychic illnesses, especially
depression.
Here the point is not to ridicule any particular country or people but
rather to dispel the myth that life in the materialistic USA is perfect and
warn all our brothers and sisters-- wherever they may be living-- of the
horrors of materialism.
None should fall prey to this atheistic outlook and ruin their life by
becoming depressed.
BABA'S BLESSING
By Baba's divine grace all Ananda Margiis have come in His contact and feel
His loving guidance in all we do. This keeps our minds ever resplendent and
it is our duty to bring others along with us unto Him.
Baba says, "You too should keep moving forward, and you will also attain
victory after victory-- there is no doubt about it. Therefore continue your
efforts tirelessly, do your duty and you will surely be crowned with
success." (DMC, Anandanagar, 5/31/87)

Note: FACTS ABOUT DEPRESSION IN THE USA
Below are excerpts from various case studies published in top newspapers
and medical magazines which document the wide-spread prevalence of
depression in the USA.
"The new numbers suggest that the United States is poised to rank No. 1
globally for mental illness." (Washington Post, 6/7/05)
"One-quarter of all Americans met the criteria for having a mental illness
within the past year, and fully a quarter of those had a 'serious' disorder
that significantly disrupted their ability to function day to day,
according to the largest and most detailed survey of the nation's mental
health." (Washington Post, 6/7/05)
"Major Depression affects 15% of Americans at some point during their
lives, and 100 million people are affected on any given day...In the end,
approximately 15-20% of those with major depression become chronically
depressed. Approximately 15% of patients with major depression may commit
suicide, as well, with men committing suicide at a rate 2 times as often as
women." (American Psychology Association)
"Depression affects millions of people in the USA, and costs the U.S.
economy billions and billions of dollars in medical expenses and lost
productivity. In turn, the treatment of depression is also a multi-billion
dollar industry." ('The Demographic Correlates of Depression')
"Depression is a disorder of mood, characterized by sadness and loss of
interest in usually satisfying activities, a negative view of the self and
hopelessness, passivity, indecisiveness, suicidal intentions, loss of
appetite, weight loss, sleep disturbances, and other physical symptoms.
Some or all of these symptoms may be present in people suffering from
depression." (DCD)
"10.6% of adults in the USA said that they have experienced depression in
the last 12 months, either professionally diagnosed or self-diagnosed.
Based upon a projected total population of 205 million adults, about 23
million people experience depression over the course of a year." (DCD)
"Mental illness is absolutely going off the charts on college campuses [in
the USA]...North America's college counseling centers report an increase in
troubled students...85% of colleges report an increase during the past five
years in students with severe psychological problems." (USA Today, 5/21/02)
"Depression is being experienced more often in the US...depression is being
experienced at younger ages; episodes are becoming more severe; and
episodes are more frequent throughout individuals' lifetimes. The rate of
depression has doubled in the US since WWII, with each generation showing
greater rates of the depression than the last." (JAMA, vol. 268, 1992)
"Depression is second only to heart disease in causing lost workdays in the
USA." (DBSA, Chicago, IL)

In Old Age
Baba says, "Over the age of fifty both the body and the mind start their
decline. The power of memory diminishes and people start to forget things.
This is the rule. But through the practice of vista'ra sadhana, this
decline checks. Even an eighty year old person is able to keep the memory
as fresh as a twenty five year old person. In the mental sphere, the result
may be much more evident than in the physical sphere. Normally people hear,
learn, and forget. But by the practice of sadhana, when the nerve cells get
strengthened, dhruva smrti comes. Then one does not forget easily. In
exactly the same way, by the dint of higher spiritual practice, one can
bring about the expansion of oneself...Human beings become omniscient,
become one with Parama Purusa. Nothing is impossible through the practice
of sadhana." (DKG)

Baba, my Prabhu, Your chariot* is moving forward continuously. It is
such a beautiful & panoramic scene. All the darkness of staticity, dogma
and mean-mindedness is fading fast & evaporating from this world. With
the forward movement of Your golden chariot, the divine effulgence is
spreading all around. Nobody is left behind. If anyone did not have the
strength to ride along, then You Yourself lifted them up and gave them a
place on Your chariot. So everyone is sitting on Your chariot, moving
forward and singing the song of one Goal. In ananda (bliss) everyone is
moving forward by Your grace. O' Prabhu, O' Baba, Your chariot is moving
forward non-stop...

CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS
&
PROUT'S SOLUTION
Namaskar,
Most everyone feels it in one way or another: Scarcity of jobs, rising
fuels costs, governmental sanctions, food shortages, invasions and
fighting over raw materials, marginal pay for workers, terrorist
upheaval, extreme urban pollution, the pillaging of natural resources,
and overall discontent and despair etc.
Currently in this global market economy, our financial and social woes
are mounting.
No doubt, in some places, a few people are still drinking up the glories
of a global economy, but their days of prosperity will not last long.
Such an imbalanced system of the very rich and the extremely exploited
cannot sustain itself.
Yet who can forget as it was only a short while ago, that the global
economy was looked upon as the golden vessel, i.e. the way of the
future. To mention the phrase "local economy" was to sound outdated and
archaic. It was to speak an oxymoron.
How times have changed. Little by little the trend is now reversing and
moving in the opposite direction-- towards the ways of a local economy
and Prout, whether people realise it or not.
THE BUST OF THE GLOBAL ECONOMY
Ever since the US created the fashion of a global economic structure,
the US has been losing more and more of its market share-- 20% and
growing. Because new economic hot spots have been created, whether in SE
Asia or elsewhere. And still many are dreaming of becoming a global
giant. But again all of this is short-lived and short-sighted.
Picture this: A country like the US goes outside to somewhere like
Trinidad or Bangladesh for cheap labour. Those wealthy US corporations
exponentially increase their profit and that impoverished place like
Bangladesh suddenly has citizens on a payroll. It seems like a match
made in heaven.
Except for the loss of jobs in that economic superpower like America
such that people are now actually leaving the US to find jobs elsewhere.
That is a first. Plus, huge fuel costs to ship the finished goods from
place to place, eradication of agriculture in the local area like
Bangladesh, environmental destruction, and so many other woes. Not to
mention, when invariably that economic giant like the US pulls out in
order to find cheaper labor elsewhere, the workforce in places like Sri
Lanka or Mexico wallow in economic turmoil.
And that is only the tip of the iceberg, that is only the start of the
problems regarding the global economy.
THE ILLS OF OVER-INDUSTRIALISATION & UNDER-INDUSTRIALISATION
WARS, PILLAGING, TERRORISM, & MORE
In the global economic framework, those over-industrialised nations like
the US are constantly trying to create a market for their processed and
finished goods. And when the US is the leader in warfare supplies, arms,
ammunition, and weapons, then naturally they want to, nay need to,
create a vast, global market to sell those goods. Hence, needless wars
are encouraged all around the world simply for the sake of boosting the
sales of arms-- boosting an economy.
Plus that same economic giant will have to impose its will in order to
get more raw materials to feed its ever-growing ways of
over-industrialisation, hence the invasions into Afghanistan and Iraq
for oil etc.
Because, of the imbalances of a global economy, over-industrialised
nations like the US will always be creating hell in order to boost their
own economy, irregardless of what negative impact that has on the rest
of the world.
And on the opposite end of the spectrum, under-industrialised places
like Afghanistan, Sudan, and elsewhere will suffer from an extreme lack
of jobs & economic instability, and hence resort to terrorism in order
to get their message across.
That is another level of destruction and chaos created by the
topsy-turvy global economic structure.
So, in countless ways, the global economic system is failing. It is too
costly, too wasteful, too exploitative, too thoughtless-- and it totally
overlooks the welfare of the people.
There is no long-term, beneficial, over-arching gain-- just struggle and
strife.
In the short term, those countries leaning towards
over-industrialisation like China and India will experience a temporary
boom-- and they may be dancing in the joy of those dollars, rupees, and
yen-- but that boom is mostly baseless and short-lived. Ultimately it
will come back to haunt them. They will merely fall into the same
pitfalls which the US has experienced.
LOCAL ECONOMY IS THE ANSWER
For reasons mentioned above and more, conscious people around the world
are working hard to develop a localised economy in their area or
region-- in their samaj. No doubt, in this age of instantaneous
communication, space stations, and ultra-modern & global everything, it
may sound like an oxymoron to pursue a local economic policy, but that
is indeed that answer. That is what Baba has clearly given.
PRINCIPLES OF A LOCAL ECONOMY
In His Prout discourses, Baba has provided all the needed directions and
instructions for developing a healthy, local economy. Here are 5 central
principles to that end:
1. The first principle of decentralized economy is that all the
resources in a socio-economic unit should be controlled by the local
people.
2. The second principle of decentralized economy is that production
should be based on consumption, not profit.
3. The third principle of decentralized economy is that production and
distribution should be organized through cooperatives.
4. The fourth principle of decentralized economy is that the local
people must be employed in local economic enterprises.
5. The fifth principle of decentralized economy is that commodities
which are not locally produced should be removed from the local markets.
(PNS-21)
And verily, the world is beginning to move in this direction. It has not
come to fulfillment, but there are growing pockets where the above
principles are being embraced.
Of course, those corporate giants are still trying to pilfer all they
can on the global level. So there is a tug of war going on the and the
situation will get worse before it gets better. But, with each and every
step those very same corporate giants are getting closer to hitting that
wall, where they can not only progress no further but are forced to turn
back in the opposite direction. The failing dollar, high costs of fuel,
social unrest and more will be the undoing of global capitalism.
ACTIVISTS AND THINKERS ARE MOVING TOWARDS PROUT
In response, knowingly or unknowingly, so many grassroots organisations,
cooperatives, and small businesses are trying to establish themselves in
the local arena. They realise that a local economy will bring
environmental balance, job security, social stability, and economic might.
In that way, society is coming round to the ideals of Prout. Not because
they are reading Prout discourses, but because they are reacting to the
ills of the global economic system.
So it is our duty to bring more and more attention to Baba's
socio-economic teachings. Because , only He has prescribed a step by
step analysis for how to create a fully-sustainable, local economic
system. This is what the people of today need to hear.
A FEW OF BABA'S TEACHINGS
So now, when the world is quickly getting tired of the global economy,
when it has become too expensive to grow spinach in China and have it
shipped to consumers half-way around the world, when so many local jobs
have been lost and outsourced, and when so many local merchants have
been swallowed up by Wal-Mart and Home Depot, people want answers for
how to proceed.
Here for your review are but a few of the many golden ideas Baba has
given in Prout. It is ideas like these that will empower the people and
revolutionise the world. So we should be maximally familiar with Baba's
Proutistic teachings and be ever ready to share them with all.
Baba says, "In a decentralized economy the commodities produced by a
socio-economic unit will be sold in the local market itself. As a
result, there will be no uncertainty in the local economy or the
economic life of the local population. In addition, money will be
circulated within the local market so there will be no outflow of local
capital. The possibility of an economic catastrophe in the local economy
will be largely eliminated. In such a system, people’s income will have
an upward trend and their purchasing capacity will continuously
increase. No economic system in the world has been able to continuously
increase the purchasing capacity of the people, because economic power
is concentrated in the hands of a few." (PNS-21)
Baba says, "Commodities which are not locally produced should be removed
from the local markets...It is essential that the local population
utilize the commodities produced in their own area to ensure the
prosperity of the local economy...In a decentralized economy, the
application of this principle is very important. If it is neglected, the
local industries will gradually close down, local markets will go out of
the hands of the local people and unemployment will increase. Once
locally produced goods are accepted in principle, not only will local
industries survive, but with their further development the local economy
will thrive. The outflow of capital from the local area will be checked,
and because it will remain in the local area, it will be utilized to
increase production and enhance the prosperity of the local people. With
the increasing demand for local commodities, large-scale, medium-scale
and small-scale industries will all flourish." (PNS-21)
BABA'S BLESSING
By His grace, He has bestowed upon us an economic system that is the
perfect answer to today's current socio-economic woes. Global needs to
be replaced by local. Corporation needs to be replaced by cooperative.
And Prout is that way and so much more.
Baba says, "In this present age of transition, you are seeing many
theories change and being discarded before your very eyes...
wholeheartedly embrace that theory which adjusts with time, space and
person and will continue to exist forever."
"Prout philosophy is situated at the height of pinnacled excellence
because it moves with the changes of time, space and person. PROUT will
always cross the barriers of time, space and person in an
ever-progressive way."
"So go on progressing. Mischief-mongers will not be able to poke their
nose into human affairs and put up a fence to block the path of
progress. Go on progressing, undaunted." (AFPS-9)

Future Humans
Baba says, "A day will come when the eyes and the bones in the human
body will become weak. Almost all people will wear glasses and have
false teeth. In the future there will also be tremendous changes in the
structure of human beings. Human intellect will become sharper, the
cranium will become larger and the nerve fibres will become more
complex." (AV-8, p.8-9)

"Bha'lo ba'siyachi, toma're ceyechi a'ma'r maner mainjus'a'y..." (P.S. 3185)
Purport:
Baba, You are my most close; You are my dear most. I deeply love You
with all my heart. I always yearn for You in my mental abode. Baba, I want
Your closeness.
Why are You remaining distant-- & not coming close by my side.
You are not understanding the pain of my heart nor my hope to always have You.
At a distance You go on smiling sweetly with Your charming smile. Why do
You do like this. By this way You pull my heart; my heart gets taken away.
Baba, all the sweetness of this universe is filled with Your nectar. But
You are hiding Yourself within Your divine liila of darkness and
effulgence. To understand You, to realise You is very difficult. Only by
Your grace can one understand You.
Age after age, so many yogis have been ensconced in Your shravan, manan,
niddhidhyasana, japa, kiirtan, and dhyan, but without Your divine grace
nobody can realise You.
In each and every atom, proton, electron, and neutron as well as in the
stars, galaxies, and nebulae-- all are singing Your glory, greatness, and
magnanimity. They are spreading the love of Your causeless grace.
Baba, I always long for You; I want Your proximity in the abode of my
mind & heart. I want to have You. Baba, You are my nearmost & dearmost...
BABA'S TEACHINGS HAVE BEEN TIMELESS
SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING
Namaskar,
Every margii knows that Baba's discourses are eternal truth-- apta vakya.
Baba says, "A'pta vakya or absolute knowledge is true and beneficial for
all people in all ages and in all countries...The books in Ananda Marga
philosophy are all absolute knowledge." (PNS-18, chap 3)
But some jinanis in their confused state of mind think that Baba's ideas
and discourses are not eternal-- That He modifies things from one moment to
the next. Means such jinanis think in their dogmatic way that Baba's
discourses are not apta vakya, i.e. that His discourses become old in the
due course. Or they think that sometimes Baba changed His discourses by
giving new updates etc just as mundane, ordinary philosophers do in their
writings. These types of dogmas various jinanis have in their mind.
This following letter is the reply to such delirium that certain jinanis
have.
EVERYTHING PRE-PLANNED AND PERFECT
All are aware that Baba's everything is pre-planned. All the philosophy,
irrespective of when & what time He delivered the speech, that is all part
of His eternal guideline.
And all the ideas that Baba propagated, all those various things He started
giving from the very beginning-- in seed form.
For example, those not aware may say that Microvita philosophy was
introduced in December of 1986, but it is not like that. Because in very
beginning, in the 1950's even, in old discourses Baba refers to the 7 types
of microvita devayonis.
And this next point is moving in the same direction.
NEO-HUMANISM PRE-DATES 1982
Since the time Ananda Marga started, since then the theory of neo-humanism
has been propagated. No doubt the name was not neo-humanism at that time,
but the whole philosophy was embedded within those early discourses. So no
one can claim that neo-humanism got started for the first time in 1982. It
is not like that.
Then there is also this example. In Patna, 1980 January, Baba has given the
discourse 'liberation of intellect', i.e. 'Buddhi ki mukti'. But in
official terms, everybody is aware that the neo-humanism theory was first
given in 1982. When in fact the seed form teachings were given decades
earlier and the initial elaboration of His of neo-humanism philosophy was
given in 1980. But never was there any change to any of the ideas of
neo-humanism.
In all these above cases it is just like one baby was born and then 6
months or one year later then the baby naming ceremony happened. But that
does not mean that prior to the naming ceremony then the baby did not exist.
PRABHAT SAMGIITA GIVEN LONG BACK
Indeed countless examples can be given on this very point. It is related
with all of Baba's philosophical teachings-- the entire gamut of what He
has given. Take the case of Prabhat Samgiita. Actually since His very
childhood He started giving Prabhat Samgiita-- just that time the name was
different. But then after the name Prabhat Samgiita was given decades
later, then Baba included those songs which He wrote in His childhood into
His collection of Prabhat Samgiita.
HOW COMMON THE SOCIETY OPERATES
In contrast, many people do things in a mundane, calculated manner: today
they propagate some theory and then tomorrow they see some defect in their
earlier concepts and they will attempt to revamp their initial defective
theory.
But in the case of Baba, His teachings are divine- eternal truth, Apta
vakya. So His teachings are not affected by the change in time, space, and
person.
NO UPDATES EVER NEEDED
That is why Baba never needed to update His philosophy. All the things that
He started in 1955, that very same perfect philosophy He propagated up till
1990. He just gave more and more discourses to illustrate those initial
points which were in seed form. There was no need for Baba to update
anything because all His teachings are based on eternal truth.
So those jinanis who dogmatically think that Baba updated or changed His
philosophy, they are wrong. They need to study more carefully then they
will reach the conclusion that since the very beginning, everything is the
same type of ideas. Gradually He explained more and more in His various
discourses and for that He has given new and new names and titles. But the
ideas are the same.
THE CASE WITH KIIRTAN
In opposite fashion, Islam has its own way limited dogmatic ways of
operating. Such that devotional songs and kiirtan etc are not allowed. So
if they introduce something like that, then it will be said that they
updated their philosophy.
But in our AM since the beginning, kiirtan, bhajan, dances, and devotional
chanting were approved, allowed, & encouraged. So margiis were writing and
chanting bhajans in their own way and they were singing and dancing in
their own style-- haphazard way. Then in due course, Baba graciously gave
one methodical way of doing kiirtan. Likewise later on paincajanya was also
introduced. So before the introduction of paincajanya in 1982 or the
introduction of kiirtan in 1970, these things were present in seed form
since the beginning.
Here is another key point.
SHRIINATHE...
Since 1955 the point of Ista was very significant. If you see the Subhasita
Samgraha discourses, there is the story of the mythological monkey devotee
Hanuman. And Baba illustrated this so many times and He introduced the
shloka: 'Shriinathe...'. And this very teaching is the main guiding shloka
related with pointed devotion to Ista. And this very teaching Baba has
given in various discourses since the very beginning. And directly &
indirectly He raised this point again and again until finally in 1970
Sixteen points was made and one of the points was--strictness in Ista.
Typically, here is one way of human beings' understanding-- that without
the problems, human beings do not like to think and understand about the
importance of Guru's teachings on various categories. So when some serious
negative things happen then people realise that this thing should be taken
care.
Just like Baba used to guide about the strictness of Ista point since the
beginning because many margiis those who took initiation in their old age
they did not like to give up their old allegiance to different gods and
goddesses. So one side they were doing sadhana and other side they were
doing idol worship, taking bath in river Ganges, going to temples, doing
their marriages in their caste, and following rituals of Hindu religions.
So Baba started teaching them since the very beginning about strictness in
Ista, one pointed devotion.
In the past people were addressing Baba as Lord Vishnu, or Lord Rama, Lord
Krishna, Lord Shiva, What way they were ideating on different gods and
goddesses when they came in contact with Baba they saw that very form in
Baba. Because they have deep devotion in those deities and gradually that
very devotion channelised towards Baba. The main reason for this problem
was that they took initiation in their late age that time. And this same
thing happens these days when people take initiation in their late age.
What worships or rituals they do they do not like to give up. Sadhana and
other dogmatic rituals go side by side. 5 minute of idol worship of goddess
Durga and 5 minute sadhana; 5-10 Hanuman chalisa to please monkey god; and
5 minutes kiirtan. This type of pseudo-half-baked or immature margiis you
will find everywhere.
But the main problem came in 1970 was when huge number of fake Wts became
defectors and they stated doing a lobby against Baba. Then people
understood the importance and significance of this point- strictness in
Ista. And that was the opportune time to introduce this point in 16 points
and that is what Baba did.
WHEN THE SITUATION CALLS, PEOPLE LEARN
The conclusion is that Baba used to teach these points since long back and
when the dire need arose then everyone understood that, 'Yes this is
needed'. Otherwise not.
It is same thing like one may leave one's door open every day but if one
day thief comes and takes costly things then people will be alert to close
the door. Without that talking about alertness has no use in their mind.
Here in India you see that without one time getting pickpocketed people
cannot become alert about pickpockets. So Baba's whole philosophy in seed
form was there since 1955, but gradually situation came and rule was
implemented.
THE MARGA IS SAME FROM THE BEGINNING
Baba never modified his philosophy, from the beginning it was same. He
never modified or upgraded. here is another example: male acaryas should
not initiate any females and vice versa. That was created in 1970, but this
rule was since the beginning. Because in CC part 1 Baba has given the rule
that relations between males and females should be in a very reserved way.
And as long as they will not unnecessary gossip their dealings will be
respectful.
So prior to 1970's WTs were initiating females no problem. if strict in CC
rules (giving females motherly status) but in 1970, some degenerated WTs
started doing all kinds of nonsense things with opposite sex. And that also
with their diiksa bhaganiis. So then there was no other way than to
introduce rule that male WTs should not initiate females. and vice versa.
The central idea is that the rule was there since the very beginning but
later on it got implemented forcefully in a deliberate manner.
THE WAY OF CHEESY JINANIS
So those who are blind and half-baked pundit they wrongly conclude that
some or other time Baba upgraded His philosophy or modified it. Jinanis
think like this due to their lack of deeper understanding. Better they
should read more, study more, do more sadhana, and then they will understand.
The beauty of spirituality is that it is based on veracity, eternal truth.
And Baba's all teachings are apta vakya. So there is no question of
modifying them because AM ideology is eternally perfect. To understand
these things more elaboration is needed, that is a different matter. But
modification is not needed.
BABA'S BLESSING
Here in conclusion is a blessing from Baba:
Baba says, "Utilizing the vibrations created for eternal time by Shrii
Shrii Anandamurtiji through janusparsha and varabhaya mudras, take yourself
and the entire universe ahead along the path of all-round welfare. Omn
Shanti." (CC_1)
Namaskar,
Rambabu
Note: Here below is another guideline signifying the perfect teachings of AM
Baba says: "Dharmashastra is to establish the human beings in the stable,
exalted position of spiritual ideation; it must be practical, rational,
infallible, and universal. It must be based on deep eternal truth. It must
be aptavakya. A scripture is a guiding entity. The Subhasita Samgraha
series of books are the scripture of Ananda Marga ideology." (APH-4, 'Our
Spiritual Treatise')

Purpose of Marriage
Baba says, "'Be like Shiva and Parvati, go on doing your worldly duties
along with your psychic and spiritual pursuits, be the assets of the entire
civilisation, and by your service the whole society should be benefited."
Note: The hidden meaning behind Baba's blessing is that in Ananda Marga
marriage is not for carnal pleasures and sensual satisfaction. Rather is
entails a serious commitment that has a deep significance. The marriage
system in AM is for building up one human society worthy of its name.

== "YOGA PHILOSOPHY WAS FIRST PROPOUNDED BY ANANDA MARGA" ==
Namaskar,
In the whole, entire history of this world, the first time the philosophy
of yoga was ever propounded was by Ananda Marga. That is what Baba says.
So never before in the history of humanity was the philosophy of yoga ever
given-- never.
It is quite an amazing and extraordinary concept: The first time the
philosophy of yoga came into being was with our Ananda Marga. Baba Himself
states this truth.
But, the irony is that no one would ever know it by reading our AM books--
because, tragically, those highly unique and historic words never got
printed in the published version of the discourse.
WHAT BABA SAID ON 26 SEPTEMBER 1979
Specifically, in His morning general darshan delivered in English on 26
September 1979 in Caracas, Venezuela, Baba clearly says:
"The yoga philosophy was first propounded by Ananda Marga".
Baba says this in the first minute or two of the discourse. I have heard it
with my own ears-- dozens and dozens of times. Baba says this quite clearly.
But later on when this discourse, 'Be Free From All Complexes', was printed
in the book Ananda Vacanamrtam part 34, that very special sentence was not
printed. If you check on page 79 you will see that it is missing.
And it is a terrible tragedy and very sad to see, because this is a very
unique and revolutionary proclamation that Baba is making: "The yoga
philosophy was first propounded by Ananda Marga".
Verily, there seems to be no other place in our AM discourses where Baba
says this very thing. Yet He clearly spoke it in English that day on 26
September 1979.
WHAT IS THE IMPORT OF SUCH A STATEMENT
Just to put things into perspective, we should analyse the import of Baba's
historic statement.
When Baba says, "The yoga philosophy was first propounded by Ananda Marga",
then it means that no one-- not a human being nor a Taraka Brahma-- prior
to Baba was able to give the philosophy of yoga.
Not Patanjali, not Kapil, not Buddha, not Mahaviira Jain, not
Shankaracarya, no one was able to put forth the philosophy of yoga-- not
even Lord Shiva or Lord Krsna.
Such is the grand magnitude of Baba's divine statement.
So this is yet another remarkable aspect of our AM ideology. That this was
the first time that the philosophy of yoga has ever been given. Quite an
impressive fact.
And we Ananda Margiis can easily understand this very truth because we know
that Baba's advent on this planet is an incredible occurrence. He has given
many "firsts" such as: Microvita theory, Prabhat Samgiita, Neo-Humanism,
Prout, and so much more. None of these ideas were ever given before.
And now we also know that Baba is also the first to give the philosophy of
yoga.
A COMMONLY KNOWN POINT IN OUR UNIT
Actually, many of us have been aware about this fact since long because,
for example, in our unit, we have been listening to this discourse for
years and years. By Baba's grace, we have this cassette as it is an
overseas discourse and those were recorded properly and well-circulated. So
since long we were thinking that this point-- about AM being the first to
propound the philosophy of yoga-- is quite commonly known.
NOT PRINTED IN THE BOOK, MUST CHECK ALL CASSETTES
But just recently when we went to examine the printed discourse, we saw
that this very important and unique sentence was not placed in the book--
Ananda Vacanamrtam part 34. Rather it is missing entirely. This was
astonishing for us and at that point we concluded that every printed
discourse must be re-checked with the original cassette. Otherwise there is
no telling what other points have been missed. And we-- the general members
of the Marga-- should start this process by confirming the discourses using
those cassettes that we already have.
'NOT CLEAR ON THE TAPE'
What do the editors and publishers of Ananda Vacanamrtam part 34 say about
those missing words?
The publishers and/or editors, of the book Ananda Vacanamrtam part 34,
claim that Baba's words were 'not clear on the tape'. That is the excuse
they have given in their footnote at the bottom of page 79.
And for that reason, i.e. because those syllables was 'not clear on the
tape', Baba's historic statement-- "The yoga philosophy was first
propounded by Ananda Marga"-- does not appear anywhere in the book, AV-34.
But the strange thing is that those publishers and editors understood the
words directly preceding Baba's historic statement. And in our unit we also
have a copy of that cassette and I can say first-hand that Baba's historic
words about the first propounder of yogic philosophy are just as clear as
those preceding words.
So then it is peculiar how those publishers could not catch Baba's historic
statement when those words were just as clear as the preceding ones.
Instead they just wrote, 'not clear on the tape'.
IT TAKES COURAGE TO PUBLISH BABA'S BOOKS
Although I hate to say it, it seems that something "fishy" is going on.
Because after all, Baba's statement-- "The yoga philosophy was first
propounded by Ananda Marga"-- is quite clear on the tape. So it may be that
those publishers and editors have their own hidden reasons and fears about
printing such a statement-- due to its revolutionary nature. Because the
society at-large will not be inclined to believe it-- rather they may
oppose. In turn, those publishers and editors may have thought that Baba's
statement is "too outlandish" etc. So that may be the reason why those
editors and publishers deleted it from Baba's printed book.
After all, it will not be the first time such a cowardice act has occurred.
Earlier, when certain editors and publishers printed the 'Views of Other
Faiths' discourse in the Prout series, they deleted the lengthy section
where Baba critiques the Semitic religions like Christianity and Judaism
etc. Because those editors and publishers thought that Baba's words were
too tough or too outlandish. So they did not have the courage to print
Baba's revolutionary words. What else could be the reason when that
discourse was printed in full in the book Tattvika Praveshika (1957).
Similarly, in His discourse 'Liberation of Intellect' of Patna, 26th
January 1980, Baba has given the revolutionary decree about women's rights
and He condemns the Muslim dogma that "three women are equal to one man".
But for 'some reason', our editors and publishers also failed to print that
section of the discourse. Rather those editors and publishers removed it
thinking that the public would react against Baba's dharmic proclamation.
Or what else could be the reason. After all, there is a pattern developing
here.
Likewise, in Baba's Hindi discourse of 06 Jan 1979 in Patna, He boldly
states that AM is being propagated everywhere and that 'Ananda Marga is
across the planets'. But this also the editors thought was too outlandish a
statement-- so they removed it from the printed discourse, even though Baba
clearly states this on the cassette.
And verily, who knows where else such editors and publishers might have
failed to print Baba's actual words-- due to their own cowardice mentality
etc. Surely, the more we look the more deletions we will find. Because it
seems they do not have the courage to publish Baba's revolutionary
statements. Or at least all the arrows point in that direction.
By all this we can understand that language skills are not the only thing
needed in order to work in the Publications department-- courage is also
required.
Because the whole of our AM ideology is revolutionary and Baba has told
many things that the general populace may not like or may not accept. And
in their fear, some of the editors and publishers of AM books delete those
potentially controversial statements like, "The yoga philosophy was first
propounded by Ananda Marga".
Due to their cowardice mentality they do like that.
In a related manner, we can say the reason why they deleted the paragraph
about margii rights from the AM A Revolution discourse is due to their
selfishness.
These are the very real issues we encounter with our Publications
Department. That is why it has to be said that in order to publish Baba's
books properly, one must have a certain degree of courage. Failing that,
due to their cowardice, they delete certain lines that they feel the public
may not like. And those editors and publishers they give phony excuses
like, 'it is not clear on the tape'.
PROPER TRANSCRIPTION IS IN THIS EMAIL
For everyone's awareness and reference, a proper and true transcription of
Baba's discourse, 'Be Free From All Complexes', has been appended at the
bottom of this email. That way everyone can readily see where Baba has
said, "The yoga philosophy was first propounded by Ananda Marga".
So everyone should keep a copy of this for the record and maybe even print
it and attach it to the AV-34 book. Because it is hard to believe that
those in Publications will correct the matter any time soon, if ever. So we
should take the matter in our own hands. That is the best way.
BABA'S BLESSING
By Baba's grace, He has blessed us with His supreme teachings of Ananda
Marga-- the first time in history that the philosophy of yoga has been
given. So we should place extra importance on the printing of Baba's books
and make sure that they are 100% clear and true to what He has said.
Baba says, "The scriptures containing spiritual injunctions must be totally
flawless." (NSS p.200, Edn 1995)
Namaskar,
Ram Sahay
Note 1: NOT ONE MISTAKE BUT MANY
The most gross and fundamental flaw of the printed version of this
discourse occurs in the second paragraph, where they failed to print Baba's
historic statement, "The yoga philosophy was first propounded by Ananda
Marga".
However, the printed discourse is riddled with numerous other types of
transcription errors and deletions etc. Really there are too many to count.
Note 2: THESE PARAGRAPHS HAVE THE MOST MISTAKES
(A) Here below is the actual transcription of the first paragraph of the
discourse. By comparing this with the book (AV-34, p.79), anyone can see
that there are some fundamental mistakes in the printed version of this
paragraph.
"Last night I said something regarding different movements of humans in
different strata of life, different arenas of life. Now, there is an
eternal question of human mind regarding the success of life. Some people
do so many things but come out unsuccessful, and some people do something
for a short while and get crowned with success. What is the inner secret?
Why does one become successful and one not?" (Paragraph #1 of the discourse
'Be Free From All Complexes')
(B) Here below is the actual transcription of the second paragraph of the
discourse. This is the one where Baba says that AM is the first to propound
the philosophy of yoga. By comparing this with the book (AV-34, p.79),
anyone can see that there are some fundamental mistakes in the printed
version of this paragraph.
"Regarding this Lord Shiva says-- you know, Lord Shiva was the first
propounder of the yoga cult. I will not say yoga philosophy because the
yoga philosophy was first propounded by Ananda Marga. But before this,
during the time of Shiva, there was a cult, that is, a practical side was
there." (Paragraph #2 of the discourse 'Be Free From All Complexes')
(C) Here below is the actual transcription of the 14th paragraph of the
discourse. By comparing this with the book (AV-34, p.81), anyone can see
that there are some fundamental mistakes in the printed version of this
paragraph.
"Now these two attributions, to think and to remember, are closely related
to each other. What we see or what we perceive from the external objective
world is reflected in the mind. And as a result of this reflection, coming
first from the nerve fibres and secondly in the nerve cells, creates a sort
of reflection in the mental plate. And when the reflection is created, we
feel the existence of that external object. "Feel" means we see, we hear,
we get the taste. This is thinking. And the second portion of thinking
occurs when those waves, those sympathetic waves of the human mind, get
refracted on the mental plate. They are stored-up thoughts. Those stored-up
thoughts may be termed as memory." (Paragraph #14 of the discourse 'Be Free
From All Complexes')
(D) Here below is the actual transcription of the 22nd paragraph of the
discourse. It is the second to last paragraph. By comparing this with the
book (AV-34, p.83-84), anyone can see that there are some fundamental
mistakes in the printed version of this paragraph.
"Now even a man, who is a bad type of sinner, other sinners may hate him,
that he is a bad man, even sinners may say that he is a bad man - for such
a sinner, the worst type of sinner, the future is not dark. The future in
his case also is very bright, if he takes shelter in the divine lap of the
Supreme Father. "I am on the lap of my Father, I cannot be a sinner."
Suppose you are walking along the path and your dress, your clothes, become
muddy due to dust or clay. Then should you think that you will remain nasty
or dirty forever? If you appear before your Father with dirty clothes, what
will your Father do? He will clean your clothes and take you on his lap: "O
my son, your clothes have become muddy, but you are my son. Come here, come
here, sit on My lap. I am your Father, you are My son, you must not suffer
from any sinner's psychology." Do you follow?" (Paragraph #22 of the
discourse 'Be Free From All Complexes')
Note 3: HERE IS THE PROPER TRANSCRIPTION OF THIS DISCOURSE
'BE FREE FROM ALL COMPLEXES'
~ 26 September 1979 morning, Caracas ~
Last night I said something regarding different movements of humans in
different strata of life, different arenas of life. Now, there is an
eternal question of human mind regarding the success of life. Some people
do so many things but come out unsuccessful, and some people do something
for a short while and get crowned with success. What is the inner secret?
Why does one become successful and one not?
Regarding this Lord Shiva says-- you know, Lord Shiva was the first
propounder of the yoga cult. I will not say yoga philosophy because the
yoga philosophy was first propounded by Ananda Marga. But before this,
during the time of Shiva, there was a cult, that is, a practical side was
there.
He [Lord Shiva] said that a man must not be under any sort of complex -
that is, a man, a spiritual aspirant, must be free from all complexes; [he
must have] neither superiority complex, nor inferiority complex, nor fear
complex, nor defeatist complex. That is, the mind should be completely
balanced.
Actually, the question was placed before Lord Shiva by Pa'rvatii. Pa'rvatii
was the spouse of Shiva, wife of Shiva. Pa'rvatii's question was: "What are
the secrets of success?" And in reply Lord Shiva said that there are seven
secrets.
He said: "The first secret is Phalis'yatiiti vishva'sah siddherprathama
laks'an'am" - that is, "In the aspirant, in the spiritual aspirant, there
must be this firm determination that 'I must be successful in my mission.'"
This firm determination is the first factor, first item, first requisite
factor for success. If a man is doing something but has not got the
firmness of determination - if within his mind there is a question "whether
I will be successful - if I am not successful" - this kind of thing - then
he will never be successful. There must be firm determination that "I must
be successful." This is the first requisite factor.
Do you follow? Even those who do not understand English are understanding a
little bit. Mm. [laughter]
And the second thing is: dvitiiyam' shraddhaya' yuktam' - "one must have
respect for one's goal, one must have respect for one's path."
And the third thing: trtiiyam' Gurupu'janam - "one must have reverence for
the guru." I need not explain this item, because my subject is here that
one must be free from all complexes.
Caturtho samata'bha'vo. The fourth factor is that the aspirant must have a
balanced mind. This is the item now under discussion.
Pain'camendriyanigrahah. The fifth is, one must have self-restraint. Eating
too much, sleeping too much, drinking too much - these weaknesses will not
help the aspirant. One must have a balanced life. One must have
self-restraint.
And s'as't'hain'ca pramita'ha'ro - "one must take balanced food, that is,
not too much nor too little." It should be substantial; it should be
sentient, or at least mutative in nature for family persons. It must not be
of static nature. It should be balanced food, because the cells of your
body are created from the food. The food that you take creates the cells of
your body. And your mind is a collective mind of the minds of so many
cells, so if you take static food, non-sentient food, your mind will also
be of that nature. Your mind will get depraved, degenerated; so you should
take proper and balanced food.
This was the advice of Lord Shiva.
So one of His pieces of advice was - what? Caturtho samata'bha'vo - that
is, "You must have a balanced mind." Now what is a balanced mind? The human
mind has got two special wonts, two main courses, two main duties: one is
to think and the other is to remember. The two duties of the human mind -
one, to think, and the other, to remember - to keep in memory. Two things.
Now, what is proper memory and what is proper thinking? If the thinking is
proper and if the memory is proper, then I will say that the man is free
from all complexes.
Now these two attributions, to think and to remember, are closely related
to each other. What we see or what we perceive from the external objective
world is reflected in the mind. And as a result of this reflection, coming,
first from the nerve fibres and secondly in the nerve cells, creates a sort
of reflection in the mental plate. And when the reflection is created, we
feel the existence of that external object. "Feel" means we see, we hear,
we get the taste. This is thinking. And the second portion of thinking
occurs when those waves, those sympathetic waves of the human mind, get
refracted on the mental plate. They are stored-up thoughts. Those stored-up
thoughts may be termed as memory.
Now when you are suffering from a superiority complex, you think that you
are a better person and others are worse persons; as a result of which you
are unable to accept the external waves in proper style. So your thinking
gets polluted, gets distorted, and as a result of which the refracted
portion, that is, the memory, also gets distorted, becomes defective.
So you must not have any superiority complex. You should remember that you
are not superior to anybody else. All are children of the same Supreme
Father, all are progeny of the same Supreme Progenitor. Nobody is superior
to anybody.
The second complex: Sometimes you may think that "I am an ordinary man, and
that man is so big, so learned, such a big scholar - so rich, and I'm poor"
- like this. If you think like this, what will happen? There will not be
proper expression of your mind, there will not be proper emanations of your
thought-waves; as a result of which the thought will become distorted and
the refracted thought, that is, the memory portion, will become defective.
Similarly, the fear complex: Sometimes people suffer from a fear complex.
The psychological side of the fear complex is as follows: Due to the
presence of something stronger, or due to the presence of something which
is imaginarily stronger, not actually stronger, what happens? Mental flows
are blocked, are choked. They cannot find the proper avenue of expression;
as a result of which thoughts also get polluted. There cannot be free
thinking. A man suffering from a fear complex cannot think properly. And if
the thought is defective, the memory will also be defective. So you must
never suffer from any sort of fear complex.
Why should you suffer from a fear complex or an inferiority complex, when
the Supreme Father is your father, when you all are the children of the
same Father; why should you suffer from any inferiority complex or any fear
complex, when the Supreme Father is with you? You are not weak. You are
very strong, because the Almighty Father, the omnipotent Supreme Father, is
with you to help you - so you must not encourage the psychology of
weakness, or an inferiority complex or a fear complex. He is with you,
always He is with you to help you. You are never alone.
And sometimes there is a defeatist complex. "Oh, I am defeated in this
world," "Oh, I am defeated in this struggle for existence." Such a
sentiment, such a psychology, sometimes goads a man to commit suicide even.
"I am defeated, I am defeated in the struggle for existence." You must not
encourage this type of psychology. When your father is the Supreme Father,
your father is the most powerful entity in the entire universe, why should
you think that, why should you feel that you have been defeated in the
struggle for existence? No, a bright future awaits you. Your future is
glorious, your future is luminous, your future is effulgent.
So you must not suffer from this psychology of helplessness or hopelessness
or of despair. This defeatist complex may also be called "sinner's
psychology". A man may always think: "I am a sinner, I am a sinner, I am a
sinner." If he feels like that, if he thinks like this, that "I am a
sinner," then actually one day he will become a sinner. Actually he is not
a sinner, but if he thinks like this, that "I am a sinner, I am a sinner,"
what will happen? - he will actually become a sinner, because it is the
characteristic of the human mind that it takes the form of its object. So
when a man thinks, "I am a sinner, I am a sinner, O Lord, I am a sinner, O
Lord, I am a sinner," then actually he will become a sinner. So such a
psychology is fundamentally defective. You must never think that you are a
sinner. You should think: "It may be a fact that I was a sinner in the
past, but from this very moment I am on the lap of the Almighty Father; I
cannot be a sinner, I am not a sinner. I am seated on the lap of my Supreme
Father, I am not a sinner." Lord Shiva said this:
Api cet sudura'ca'ro bhajate ma'mananyabha'k;
So'pi pa'pavinirmuktah mucyate bhavabandhana't.
[If even the most wicked persons worship Me with a concentrated mind, I
will liberate them from worldly bondages.]
Now even a man, who is a bad type of sinner, other sinners may hate him,
that he is a bad man, even sinners may say that he is a bad man - for such
a sinner, the worst type of sinner, the future is not dark.
I am your Father, you are My son, you must not suffer
from any sinner's psychology." Do you follow?
So even if, in the past, you were sinners, forget it. Remember that from
this very moment, you are the neat and clean son, you are the neat and
clean child, of the Supreme Father. So there must not be any psychology of
sinning complex. For a spiritual aspirant, there must not be any complex.
Be free from all complexes, and move along the path of righteousness with a
balanced mind, with mental equilibrium and also mental equipoise. A bright
future awaits you.

Climate and Food Habits
Baba says, "Just as tamarind should be eaten in hot, wet climates as I
mentioned earlier, in hot, dry climates people say that if they do not eat
poppy-seed or black gram in their country they will be susceptible to
nosebleeds so they have to eat it. Thus the climate or environment exerts a
particular influence over inclination." (Varn'a Vijia'na, p.92)
