== ONE LETTER CHANGES THE ENTIRE MEANING ==

Namaskar,
One letter was recently posted that contained a letter from a different email forum. In that letter one person made a mistake in the spelling of their name. The correction is explained below.

Certainly the person involved had positive intention; in their own way they were not aware about their mistake. So this is not to point out any individual in particular but rather this is a matter of general awareness because there is something in this letter for everyone.

The overarching idea is that we should follow Baba's teaching and side by side we should be respectful towards the person who was in error and not make jokes of anyone's name.

BABA'S EXAMPLES

Here following is Baba's teaching that clearly demonstrates how the switching of one letter dramatically and drastically changes the meaning of the word.

(A) Viir & Biir

viir = hero
biir = brother

So see how changing just one letter creates a much different meaning. When the word starts with "v" then viir means "hero" and when it starts with "b" then it means brother. Clearly then "v" and "b" are not interchangeable.

(B) Val & Bal

val = hair of the head
bal = small children

Here again in this example there is a big difference when the letter "v" is switched for the letter "b".

(C) Vaedya & Baedya

vaedya = doctor
baedya = donkey

In the instance also, changing the letter "v" to "b" has a dramatic difference in the meaning of the word. Vaedya means "doctor" and baedya means "donkey."

(D) Vaedyanatha & Baedyanatha

vaedyanatha = Doctor or all doctors; that means Master of medicine Lord Shiva
baedyanatha = master of the donkey; i.e. washerman

Finally Baba puts forth this above example and anyone can see that changing the letter "v" to "b" makes a very dramatic difference in the meaning of the word. Vaedyanatha means "Doctors of all doctors" or Lord Shiva, and baedyanatha means "the master of the donkey."

So we should all keep this in mind: Both in this particular instance and in the spelling of all words. The letter "v" is not interchangeable with the letter "b". Anyone with the name vaedyanatha or viveka or viireshvara should be aware about this.

Baba talks about this in His discourse, Sambhu'ti Maha'sambhuti Aor Nrsingh, from Mumbai 7/9/1967. For your ease of reference the section of that discourse has been included as an attachment.

Namaskar,
Motilal Deva
