Practical Aspect of Mysticism

Baba

"Toma'ke cena' na'hi ja'y..."  (P.S. 2089)

Purport:

Baba, You are so loving and close - even then it is not possible to recognize You. Just when I think that I have recognized You, then my consciousness gets completely enveloped by the Cimmerian darkness. Baba, Your divine Presence shifts from one extreme to the next. On the one side You are so tough and other times You are very soft and sweet.

Baba, sometimes You are vehemently sounding Your sermons by the beating of the marching drum and blowing of the military trumpets; and on other occasions You are smiling sweetly and showering Your causeless grace with the flower pollen. Baba, such is Your beauty. O' Baba, in the end, in the lonely, isolated moment, I see that everything happens by Your grace. What You desire, that is what happens - that is the final truth.

O' Parama Purusa Baba, in Your grand Kingdom, everything belongs to You. I cannot boast that anything is mine; indeed to think that something is mine is a crime. Because everything is created by You - this whole expressed universe is Your mental projection. Then how can I say that anything is mine.

Baba, only You are mine; everyone is Yours. Baba, everyone longs for Your karuna' - divine compassion. Baba, to recognize You is not possible without Your grace. Baba only with the showering of Your grace can one realise You - otherwise not. Baba please grace me...

== PRACTICAL ASPECT OF MYSTICISM ==

Baba says, "Mysticism is a never-ending endeavour to find a link between finite and infinite." (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 23, p.101)

Note: Here Baba is indirectly giving the guideline that in the realm of devotion one should have a particular personal relation with Parama Purusa. And these relations are known as "bhava" - whether they be sakhya bhava, dasya bhava, madhura bhava etc. So these various bhavas are that very "link between finite and infinite". Because with the help of these relations devotees gradually come in closer and closer proximity with Parama Purusa. Until finally by linking up in this way the sadhaka becomes one with Him.

Namaskar,
Ram

  1. namaskar,

i'm replying to an earlier post about Shiva giiti. you have written that Baba gave this song while dictating His book and that margis got excited and started singing it.

this is totally false. i was in Patna at the time when the song was given. Every time Baba came out that song was sung for Him. Even the smallest mistake in pronunciation was corrected by Baba. (as a matter of fact later when Baba gave Prabhat Samgiit I did not see Him be so strict in making sure the song was sung correctly)

So for days, many times a day this song was being sung for Baba and sometimes He would talk about it. once even my father asked GS for the meaning and Baba dictated a translation which is not in the published book.

the tune people sing nowadays is totally wrong. It is a very deep gambhiira song and on the recordings it is sung very fast to wrong tune like a film song.

our own family began singing this song at Pancajanya and at other times because we saw with our own eyes how much importance Baba gave to this song.

regarding Ishta many margis have realized Baba as Krishna and have devotion for Krishna. a few margis have devotion for Shiva and Baba as well. this is part of a person's samskara as some people worshipped Him in past lives and some were with Him in past lives. in AM we are not priests to surpress people's sentiments and samskaras. mostly margis have sentiment for Krishna as He was more recent. in fact the book "Discourses on the Krsna and Giita" was published when it has much repetition in the subject matter. but Baba's disourses on shiva (aside from His book) have never been published in one volume. neither have the shiva prabhat samgiit been published.

for Baba there is no dhyana mantra, no pranam mantra, no vijaya mantra (niilakantha liila), no padapuja mantra and so on.some people try to get satisfaction by singing Prabhat Samgiit removing the words prabhu/bandhu etc and saying Baba. but ultimately this will not satisfy the devotee's heart as the unique spleandour of Baba's smile, the exquisite divine grace of each of His gestures, the efflugent benevolence of His feet is nowhere described in Prabhat Samgiit. this is why as per my limited intuition Baba wants an Anandamurti Samgiit.

    Dear Anonymous,

    You are indeed confused.

    YOU WROTE:
i was in Patna at the time when the song was given. Every time Baba came out that song was sung for Him. Even the smallest mistake in pronunciation was corrected by Baba. (as a matter of fact later when Baba gave Prabhat Samgiit I did not see Him be so strict in making sure the song was sung correctly)

Your confusion is like one blind person who is claiming that an elephant is like a rope because that blind man only saw the tail.

You may not like to hear this truth but that is the truth.

Best will be that you find out the reality. If you research more you will find that Baba was very strict about the pronunciation, tune and melody in each and every Prabhat Samgiita.

When you learn this truth then your misunderstanding will fade away.

Please learn and study before writing

    Sincerely,
    Rajesh

    Namaskar Anonymous,

    YOU WROTE:
"regarding Ishta many margis have realized Baba as Krishna and have devotion for Krishna. a few margis have devotion for Shiva and Baba as well. this is part of a person’s samskara as some people worshipped Him in past lives and some were with Him in past lives."

By your above expression it looks like you advocate the idea of margiis having multiple Istas.

By your approach one can have all kinds of Istas like: Satya Sai Baba, Siita, Laksmii, Visnu, Mohammed, Christ, Abraham, and countless others. Why are you advocating the use of multiple Istas when that goes totally against Baba's teachings.

See here below Baba's guideline where He is indirectly teaching us one-pointed devotion for one Divine Entity via the great mythological devotee Hanuman.

    'Shriináthe Jánakiináthe cábheda Paramátmani;
    Tathápi mama sarvasvah Rámah kamalalocanah.

“I know that Shriinátha and Jánakiinátha are one from the spiritual point of view. From the spiritual point of view Shriinátha and Jánakiinátha are one and inseparable.” Tathápi mama sarvasvah – “Nevertheless, Rama is everything for me, and I do not recognize Náráyańa or anybody else. For me the word ‘Náráyańa’ has no value.” (Subhasita Samgraha - 21, Nama & Namii)

In the above teaching Hanuman says there may be many names of the Lord but I only know Rama - not any other.

Baba is guiding us that this is how to get success in the spiritual sphere: With one-pointed devotion for Him. Not any other.

Thus for true Ananda Margiis there is only 1 Ista: Baba. We only think of Him and do dhyana on Him and do His kiirtan. We sing Prabhat Samgiita for Him - not any other.

When you understand this point in your heart you too will be a true Ananda Margii.

    Namaskar,
    Jaganath
