I agree wholeheartedly - there is no question of Baba ever ordering to ban or burn the  book, "A Discussion". Baba never did like this and indeed many of us have this publication, "A Discussion", on our bookshelf.

So what Devashish has written in his book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, is totally false. Devashish's assessment is completely incorrect.

FURTHER EVIDENCE

Here is further evidence that Baba did not ban or burn this book. Baba Himself ordered that this book - "A Discussion" - be republished and titled as "Discourses on Prout" and placed in the Prout Nutshell Series.

It only stands to reason then that if Baba gave the order to ban and burn the book - "A Discussion" - then He would have given the order to ban and burn "Discourses on Prout." But that He did not do. Rather He purposely ordered that it be included and published in His Prout in a Nutshell series.

Indeed if you open Prout in a Nutshell (Part IV), you will see that "Discourses on Prout" is the first chapter - with the exact date and place as the book "A Discussion." And every letter, word, and paragraph that is printed in "Discourses on Prout" is cent-per-cent the same as "A Discussion." There is not a phrase or sentence from "Discourses on Prout" that does not appear in "A Discussion."

So to think that Baba would have banned a book, burned it, and then republished it all over again under a separate title is absolutely ludicrous. Baba would not do like and and indeed Baba did not do like this. Baba never gave the order to ban and burn "A Discussion" - rather He wants that the ideas presented in this book be shared with one and all. Everyone should read this book.

So it seems brother Devashish needs to be a little more careful with His "facts" before publishing a book, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years, and distributing it all over the world for all to see. I sincerely question what other misnomers and falsehoods may in this book. I think there may be many.

BABA'S BLESSING

By Baba's grace we must all be active and not allow any wrong history or facts to be published in the name of Baba and Ananda Marga, whether those things were done intentionally or not. If someone does go to the extent of publishing and publicizing a book, the burden is on them to make sure it is accurate before it reaches the shelves. Too bad brother Devashish did not do this. 

Baba says, "You are following the path of sádhaná. Always remember that you must establish yourself in pure devotion and not formal devotion. And to become established in pure devotion you must perform virtuous deeds, practise spiritual sádhaná regularly, render selfless service to the world, and wage a relentless fight against wrongs and injustice. There is no room for cowardice. May you be victorious." (Ananda Marga & Way of Life, Vaedhii Bhakti and Shuddhá Bhakti)

Note1: ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO BOOKS

Here is the only difference between "Discourses on Prout" and "A Discussion."

In His book, "A Discussion" there is a short 11 or 12 line section on page 23 where Baba lists the 7 stages of physical revolution. This very brief listing is not printed in "Discourses on Prout." Other than this 1/2 page section, the two books "A Discussion" and "Discourses on Prout" are exactly the same.

Regardless, in no way did Baba ever declare that the book should be "banned" or "burned."

It is common human nature to trust what is in print to be correct. We assume the writer, editor and publisher have verified the accuracy of each and every word.

Though, this type of feeling is often exploited as well - dogmas and wrong ideas are also put in print and taken as true. This misguides both readers and the general society.

Unfortunately, Devashish's book - Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years - falls in this latter category. It is very laced with countless errors and mistakes that lead the reader astray.

Every concerned Ananda Margii then should be aware of brother Devashish's recent publication, Anandamurti: The Jamalpur Years (2010). Indeed, this book demands a closer look by our entire Marga family.
