Unparalleled Glory of Prabhat Samgiita

From: "Shantatma Kerketta" To: am-global@earthlink.net Subject: Unparalleled Glory of Prabhat Samgiita Date: Mon 14 Sep 2009 06:24:39 +0530 Baba "Toma'ke ka'che peyeo cena' da'y..." (PS 2288) Purport: Baba, by Your grace You are mine-- You are very close to me*. Baba, often I think that I have understood You completely; but when I contemplate more deeply I realise that I know not. To understand You fully, the unit mind must lose its individual identity. As long as one is cognizant of their own unit existence, then You cannot be realised. So, in spite of having You very close, it is still not possible for me to fully realise You. Baba, by Your grace You are my very intimate and closest One: You smile softly and say You love me. Yet when I long for You and yearn to have You in a more intimate way, You are not coming that close. Then I think that I do not properly understand Your mind-- Your desire. Otherwise surely You would come deep into the depths of my heart. Baba, alas I do not know how to satisfy You completely. Baba, just when I think I have completely understood You, and just when I think I have truly come to know You, then with Your divine liila You shower even more of Your divine love and I become restless to get You more and more close. Baba, I feel so much love for You in my heart that my eyes constantly rain tears when I think of You. It is Your grace. Baba, due to Your infinite compassion I have understood that only You are the Essence. You alone are the Cosmic Nucleus of this vast universe. Baba, by Your grace I have forgotten all those transitory expressions. I no longer run after the ephemeral things of this mundane world. Baba, I have accepted the greatness of Your divine liila. I understand that Your liila cannot be understood*. Now I only think and sing: O' Lord, please forgive me for my wrongdoing and sinful deeds by showering Your causeless grace on me. Baba, You can only be attained through surrender and love. O' Lord please grace me; please fill me with Your divine compassion... ASTERISK NOTES (*): * "Toma'ke ka'che peyeo cena' da'y": The central theme of the first line of this Prabhat Samgiita is expressed by this people shloka. Baba says, "Tadiha'ntike ca: some people think, "No, Parama Purus'a is not far from me. He is quite near. He is everywhere." In Sam'skrta, iha means "here." But even if you say iha or "near," there remains a slight gap. To those who perpetually think that Parama Purus'a is very, very near to them, He becomes so close that nothing closer can even be imagined. In such a circumstance, people realize that pashyatsvihaeva nihitam' guha'ya'm: those who have the vision to see, realize that He is not in the east or the west, in the north or the south, but He is lying hidden in the innermost cavity of their minds, in their own existential "I" feelings. Hence no one should wander about searching for Him in the external world. Make your existential "I" feeling pure and holy: if you purify your mind through virtuous deeds, through meditation and contemplation, and through kiirtana, you will be able to realize Him." (SS-12) * "Toma'r liila'y ha'r ma'niya'chi": This phrase from the third stanza of the above Prabhat Samgiita is neatly represented by this below paragraph from one of His divine discourses. Baba says, "Surrender yourself to His will. Shake off your load of self-conceit. Lighten the burden of your life and float yourself on the waves of His will. It is He who is teaching you the sa'dhana' in the guise of a Guru (preceptor); it is He who is strengthening your knowledge and faith in the guise of a philosopher. You are plundering His mercy in everything day and night. Go on working as a machine, leaving the doership to Him. How little can your poor intellect comprehend or analyse His unfathomable sport (liila')! So, instead of trying to comprehend or analyse keep the bearing of that inscrutable juggler aglow before your eyes." (AMIWL-4)
== UNPARALLELED GLORY OF PRABHAT SAMGIITA ==
Namaskar, By the grace of Parama Purusa Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji again our Prabhat Samgiita Day of 14 September has come and it reminds us of the spectacular history and the devotional & unforgettable memories.
Note: On the glorious occasion of Prabhat Samgiita Day, here are some other letters for your blissful enjoyment and review. Please continue reading here below.
WHAT USED TO HAPPEN BEFORE 1982
Before 1982, when we did not have Prabhat Samgiita, those days in DMC and General Darshan programs, we used to sing some bhajans -- devotional songs -- for Baba. Songs of those days were composed by margiis or some Dadas. Or sometimes I remember devotional songs from the common society also were sung. No doubt, Baba used to listen all those songs in a very loving way, sitting peacefully on the dais. Most of the time He used to sit quiet, in gracious mudra posture. So charming, beautiful, very attractive. He enjoys devotional songs from devotees. And the whole vibration of the pandal used to be charged with unparalleled, divine vibrations. And it intoxicated all devotees, those who were attending His darshan. This was the regular feature. But sometimes I have seen that when the song was going on, Baba was not completely satisfied with the meaning or idea behind the song. And time to time I have seen in different occasions He used to feel discomfort with those bhajans, those which contained some negative aspects.
SONGS THAT WERE 'OFF-TRACK'
Several occasions not only I but all those who were attending, we experienced what happened if the song is going off the track. (note: Here I am not talking about the tune of the singer or musical style. Here "off the track" means if the song which is going on in DMC, is going astray from Baba's teaching.) So if the meaning of the song was dogmatic type or unideological. Then Baba used to oppose and sometimes scold lovingly, then and there. He used to oppose very strongly sometimes. Here I want to remind that this is the about pre-1982 stage. Before Prabhat Samgiita had come. Because of Baba's displeasure with some of those songs, a certain system was introduced. That is, before singing any song in any General Darshan or DMC, the song had to be pre-approved by RAWA dept. It was done to avoid such unpleasant situations during the devotional program in DMC. Prior to this it was regular occurrence that Baba used to be displeased by some of those bhajans which were dogmatic. We know Margiis were not singing the songs to displease Baba, but the meaning of the songs were negative. It was not consistent to Baba's teaching. It was all happening because of ignorance, and lack of availability of bhajans which can project AM ideology and AM devotional cult.
DOGMATIC RELIGIOUS SONGS
In the common society we see that at various religious gatherings they sing such songs which carry the dogma of "heaven and hell", or "Oh Lord I am sinner and You are great..." etc. It is obvious that in earlier days margiis directly came from those very religions. So they inherited those dogmatic bhajans from there. And the projection we were seeing in General Darshan. That caused an unpleasant situation. In one DMC, it may have been Patna 1st January DMC, one song was going on. The song was like this, "Majadha'r me par'a' hum...Koi nahi saha'r'a'...". The sense was that: "Baba, I am in a wild whirlpool. And caught up in that strong flooded river current. The situation is life and death. There is a huge amount of uncontrolled water. I am floating away. Going to die-- death is certain. I do not have any hope. Nobody is there to save me, I am shelterless...." This is some sense of the meaning of that song which was going on in that DMC.
BABA INTERJECTS
When Baba was listening to this, then He did not like the meaning. Baba sharply reacted. And He loudly spoke, "You are not shelterless! Stop this song." And then Dadas interrupted and the song was stopped. And the situation got controlled. And other margiis started singing. One more time I remember, when one margii was singing the song, "Baba toha'r chashma' kama'l karela'...". The meaning of this Bhojpuri song is, "Your eyeglasses are wonderful; they are bringing charm on Your face...The sticks in Your hand and the white dhoti are all multiplying Your beauty..." That is the general scene of this song. So one can understand to some extent the meaning of what was being sung that day-- and Baba did not like it.
DADA N'S SONGS
After those days, then Dada Nityasatyananda composed some Bengali songs. His songs were also not A-grade. In some of the songs, he used to include his own name in the last line of the song itself. That was a negative part. I am giving you here one such example. And almost all the songs had his name in one or another way.
"Nityasatyananda sa'dh mane ga'he sabe Baba nam...".
So when he was leading the song, everybody was following and unnecessarily everybody used to sing and repeating that. The meaning of that song line is, "Nityasatyananda is singing Baba Nama Kevalam". Such songs Baba did not like. Because devotees like to praise Lord. Not to praise themselves. So "Nityasatyananda sa'dh mane..." song was treated negative.
SOMETHING WAS MISSING
All these above examples are all historical facts what happened during those days. Everybody was feeling great scarcity in the field of devotional songs. Baba has given all the philosophy for physical, psychic and spiritual development, Prout, various things. But heartfelt, loving communication between disciple and Guru, devotee and Lord, was missing. There was a big gap. As is known, various devotees tried to fill up the gap, but failed.
BABA'S BLESSING
So ultimately Baba has graced us by showering us with divine songs. And that came in the form of Prabhat Samgiita. And now we have thousands of such devotional songs which are A-grade. Unparalleled. Now everyone realizes that what this 'PS song #2' says is true. That, Prabhat Samgiita is really - "E ga'n a'ma'r a'lor jharn'a'dha'ra'". These songs are the fountain of divine effulgence. They are an eternal source of inspiration in all the fields and especially in the realm of devotion. Prabhat Samgiita is so great that language does not have capacity to explain its magnificence and glory. Its greatness can only be felt in the heart and mind. At His lotus feet, Shantatma
*************************************** Beneficial For All
Baba says, "There are people who avoid intuitional practice (sa'dhana') for fear of giving up all the pleasures and enjoyments of the world. This fear deters them from pursuing intuitional practice, although their fear has no logical basis. It was explained earlier that the objects of earthly enjoyment are created under the influence of the static principle of Prakrti, and one regards them as real due to the dominance of Avidya'ma'ya', which also makes people enjoy these earthly objects. Intuitional practice gradually reduces the dominance of Avidya'ma'ya', and then the mind is also diverted towards subtle things. Crude worldly pleasures and enjoyments lose their attraction. The longing for worldly objects (ka'ma), the attraction for them (moha), and avarice (lobha) -- the three principles of Avidya'ma'ya' -- make these seem desirable, but with the waning of the influence of these three, the mind will no longer desire them. Ordinarily the mind delights in the enjoyment of worldly pleasures and regards giving them up a torture, but when the mind no longer likes them, the question of giving them up does not arise. At that time the mind will try to run away from them, and feels relieved to be without them, instead of being tormented by their absence...." "On careful analysis, the fears that hold one back from practising sa'dhana' appear to be without any foundation. To avoid intuitional practice (sa'dhana'), which is the fundamental duty of everyone, out of baseless fear, only shows one's ignorance. It is, therefore, urged that no one avoid sa'dhana' out of unfounded fears, but rather through sa'dhana' realize themselves and know themselves as the Infinite Supreme Entity." (AMEP, '98 Edn, p.132-134)
